I love to eat out. The food here was appetizing and indeed mouth-watering. It could have been a very gratifying experience for us if not for the wait staff, who ignored our requests for water and hurried us out.

We had heard a lot about this place from a friend and we went with them to try it. It was just ok. I ordered off the menu to get some real sushi rolls. They had a lot of "designer" rolls that crammed a ton of stuff in a roll. The Dragon roll here was actually quite good though.

My date & I ate here last night. Spent $130 for sushi that took over 1hour and 15 mins to arrive at my table. The tuna tar tar came just a few minutes shy of one hour AND THE PLACE was *NOT* busy!!! WTF.

We were not full afterwards and had to step two doors down to Krispy Kreme to actually be fulfilled. Both of us moved down from NY and heard a lot about MF and thought the sushi here would be outstanding. We got cheated. If you want to pay for overpriced sushi and not be full or satisfied afterwards, then come here. The service was mediocre at best and the quality of the sushi did not meet up to the price of the package. The owners should really start paying more attention to their reviews. Go to Tomo (Vinings) for better service and quality food.

Good sushi but kind of pretentious and the tables are really crowded in there so I wouldn't recommend it for a date or intimate dinner. Location is sort of sketchy but they have valet.

MF Sushi gets all this hype but it didn't live up to our expectations. It was really crowded and seemed rushed. We sat for 10 minutes without menus. The scallop appetizer was great. The sushi was fresh. However, the atmosphere ruined the experience.

Let me start by saying, I love Japanese food and would drive 20-25 miles to have some good sushi.
A friend of mine took me to MF sushi bar a few years back, I was impressed with the way the place looked and thought it could be great for some small special occasion dinners.
Well, we went there last night for my son??s birthday. A few years older and a few good sushi restaurants under my belt I can say not worth it!!!! If you are a sushi connoisseur take your hard earned dollars somewhere else.
The service was beyond slow! After I asked the hostess, why is it taking so long, the waitress came to me and said ?? Oh, the chef is making your sushi now. Do you know how long it takes to prepare it?? She also forgot to bring us our miso soup.
Well, unfortunately the sushi weren??t as great as I had expected ! Just a little better than mediocre.
I think the place doesn??t cater to people that really know and like sushi, but rather to the people who like to say ?? Oh, by the way I went to MF Sushi bar for dinner and it was packed?
If you really a sushi lover go to Haru Ichiban in Duluth. The place is not cheap but not as expensive as MF. However, the sushi taste fresh and absolutely delicious, the service is good hence the driving is all worth it!!

Just like it's younger sister, MF Buckhead, this places is a very unique experience and they take care of you everytime. Any thing that is on the menu is sure to please. If you go there, sit at the bar. The sushi chefs are great and love to talk about anything. More importantly, they are more likely to give you specialty items that are not on the menu.

We wish they had more for vegetarians, but that's not something we should expect from a sushi place. The veggie rolls they did make us were very good.

I went to MF sushi for lunch with my boss a couple days ago. As soon as we entered the building, we smelled the strong chlorine. Sushi was OK but the too strong chlorine smell made us impossible to enjoy them.

I've been twice.

I found the sushi to be very good, quality sushi.

On both occasions, noted a racial undertone (against blacks). We were spoken to in a way that others would not have been spoken to. Chefs were far more friendlier to the white patrons at the sushi bar than they were the black.

But the main problems:

(And I know sushi, by the way) -- they are overpriced.

And the service is extreeeeeeeeeeeeeeemly slooooooooooooooooow. That was particularly bothersome.

I don't recommend it.

I've certainly known better.

MF sushi was the big word in japanese restaurants of atlanta but being a person knowledgeable in sushi, this was a very big upset! too expensive for the quality i was served! maybe it was a bad day but i feel like i paid for the ambiance more than the food! I WANT GOOD FOOD IN A RESTAURANT!!! if i wanted ambiance i would go to a club or a nice bar. not traditional sushi, nor is it true-fusion

Sushi doesn't get better than this in Atlanta. It very nearly competes with the best of the West Coast as well. The Toro is very good here. Start with the Sushi Combo for 1, and go from there.

It was rated number five on one of Atlanta's most romantic places to dine. I agree! I luv the ambience. The wonderful selection of sushi and the best service in town. My favorites are the cucumber and seaweed salad, the tony roll, california roll and the Godzilla roll! I haven't made it to sashimi yet but um sure that it will be very delicous.

I am an individual whom cannot eat seafood that is not fresh, i will get allergic and needs pills or injection to stop my shortage breathing and rashes. After dinner at MF that night, i experienced my allergy. So i most definately do not reccomand people whom are allergic to unfresh seafood to go there.. Even if you are not, it means that you are eating unfresh food.. at your own risk.

I've tried MF Sushi several times. I really want to like the place. But every time, I come away with the same impression: food is fresh but nothing special, and the servers act haughty and as though you are putting them out. I've dined at the sushi bar and at tables, with large and small groups, with reservations and as a walk-in, and my feeling is consistent. There are too many places in Atlanta that make you feel welcome, or at least not as though your presence as a paying customer is a nuisance, for MF Sushi to consistently behave that way. The only thing I can figure is it is their feeble attempt to keep the restaurant's reputation as exclusive?

I don't understand the hype. Finally went after years of hearing about the quality of the sushi. It's super expensive for what you get (try the $40 deluxe meal - you don't get but a morsel of the cheapest, crappiest fish), fish were not fresh, and the modern, hip, midtown decor just doesn't mesh well with traditional food like sushi. Actually, I wouldn't have a problem with the decor if they had the quality of fish like Blue Ribbon Sushi in NY but without the sushi quality to back it up, this restaurant sadly becomes yet another one of those overpriced, overhyped places with nothing but fancy decor. Maybe I just happened to go on an "off" day (fyi Fri) but that doesn't change the fact that this place is overpriced. Save your money and try better places in the metro area like Haru Ichiban in Duluth. You get more sushi for your money and the quality is excellent esp if you time your visit right after they get a fresh batch in (important to develop a relationship w/ the chef so he'll tell you when). This is the reality of most sushi shops in America. You just don't get deliveries of fresh fish every day. I'd like to suggest the chirashi deluxe at Haru Ichiban for $26. Has a plethora of fish variety and is very tasty. Don't forget the add-on salad for only $1. Another place you can try is Sushi Yoko in Norcross or Umezono in Cobb Cty (both owned by the owners of Tomato Japanese grocery store) for good value. May not get the best sushi but certainly better than many and much of the crowd is Japanese. I'd like to rate lower than 2 stars but considering there are globs of mediocre sushi houses in ATL that ppl rave about but really deserve 1 star (i.e. Nickimoto, Harry & Sons, Rusans to name a few...), I'll give it 2 stars. And this rating is ADJUSTED for Atlanta. We can't even compare with the real places in NY, LA, or the homeland, Japan. Spent $140 (incl tip) for 2 and kept thinking about how much money I wasted for what I ate.

MFSushi had been recommended by a random aquaintance, but after trying it out I may listen to strangers more often! A little pricier than some other sushi joints around town, but well worth the cost. We sample 5 different rolls and one of our party even commented that it was the best spider roll she'd ever had. We loved it and will definitely be back soon.

It's sad to see that people think this place is any good - it only means that they've never had good sushi before, and are unable to judge the quality of the fish. The fish is mediocre and overpriced. Only good for all the pseudo-cosmopolitan people in Atlanta who've never been out of the South before.

This restaurant is the perfect place to take a date. The food is excellent, the service is great, and the atmosphere is trendy and intimate. I've eaten a lot of sushi, and this was some of the best I've ever had. Yes, it's a little pricey, but if you're serious about sushi you can't miss this place when you're in Atlanta. The only possible drawback I can think of is that all the waitresses wear long skirts with very high slits up the front, so if your date is a leg man and has wandering eyes you might be struggling to keep his attention.

This restaurant was pretty good. I couldn't tell whether they were going for a casual sushi restaurant, or a fine dining sushi restaurant. The people there were dressed either nice, or casual. Go business casual just to be careful. Now the restaurant itself is not as large as I thought it would be, so in some areas the seating can be a bit cramped. Just make sure you get a great table. The waitress we had was prompt in taking our drink order, and our first round of sushi and appetizer. The food took a long time to come out, but if you are looking to dine and not grab fast-food sushi then the wait shouldn't be an issue. After the first round of sushi, the food kept coming out faster and faster. It is really not an issue as some have made it out to be. Now, for the food. The food was pretty good. I wouldn't say it is the top sushi in the city, but it is pretty good. Prime I feel had better sushi, but I am not a sushi expert so I have no idea. I know the fish, especially the sashimi, was very fresh and tasty. The rolls were small to me, but I am also 220 pounds with a big appetite, so a lot of food items appear small to me. Let me say the variety of sushi they had was great. They even have a special sushi menu. This menu presents sushi that costs you about 17$ for 8 rolls, but the rolls on this menu are unique and I have not seen them at any other restuarant. The prices are the same as every other sushi place in town, so I don't want to hear anyone say it was too expensive. You are going out prepare to spend money, if you want a 99 cent menu, McDonalds I hear is now open 24-7. The decor is nice, nothing to wet your pants over. Parking isn't great so don't expect it to be. Try this restaurant once, and after that you pretty much have the picture. The one very positive thing I can say about this place is that it doesn't try to be it is not. I love this Mother F'in Sushi!

I have eaten sushi all over the world and this was as good as one could possibly expect from a place so far away from the sea. The service was what one would have expected at such a price and the fare was fresh and beautifully prepared.

As is often missed with many 'fancy' restaurants, the simple things are overlooked. Not here.

Expect to pay, but I would be very surprised if at the end of the day, you didn't feel as if you got your money's worth.

The fish here is phenomenal and one of the best things they have that not many other places offer is fresh grated wasabi root. The rolls here are unique and offer some great flavor combinations. The sashimi, especially the salmon which was butter soft and very tasty, is phenomenal and highly recommended. It is a little bit more on the pricey side so I wouldnt be eating here every day but for a nice, relaxing, hospitable and very gastronomically pleasing experience I would highly recommend.

It was a peculiar night because there were a lot of things that we were caught off guard with... The moment we stepped into the restaurant we both smelled fish. Not cooked fish but raw fish. It wasn't a bad smell but it was noticibly fishy. Hmmm..?. Perhaps there was a fish tank we didn't notice.. We were greeted by "Do you have reservations?". My boyfriend was turned off by that. After we were seated my boyfriend also noticed that they did not change the table cloth. It looked like someone had wiped of bird droppoings.... it was not really it, but that's what it looked like and once you get that image it's hard to get rid of...we placed a plate above if. It took a long time to get our dinner. My beer was finished before our meal even started. We were going to order more sushi as we ate, but considering how long it took to get our first order we stopped. I had to yell at my boyfriend to speak to him most of the time too. But even after all this I think the fish was fresh and good, atmosphere was good, staff was good and I'll go back again with some girlfriends. Just not on a Thursday night. : )

Cons: loud music, long wait for food

My boyfriend and I have gone here several times for special occasions and have had the exact same experience every time. Part of our order is forgotten, food takes 45 minutes to arrive (we timed it), and the service is amazingly unattentive for anything other than refilling water (which is comical because it's refilled after nearly every sip.) However, it's still our favorite sushi restaurant. It's so delicious that all that other stuff is excusable. I've always felt that ambiance can't make up for bad food, but great food can make up for almost anything.

I travel a ton as an auditor, and I am here to tell you this is the best sushi in Atlanta. Must gets is the Tuna Tataki, Baked Lobster, Super Crunch, and Godzilla Roll!! It is in the upper price range but after having bad sushi in cheap places and getting sick, I am happy to pay for the fresh fish they fly in straight from Toyko and not out of some warehouse.

I enjoyed my experience at MF Sushi, but was not blown away. The fish was fresh and well presented, and there was a good selection of nigiri. The atmosphere was energetic, the tables were full and the host staff was accomodating for a walk-in. The service was great, but a little slow. Beyond that, there was nothing incredible about MF, just good sushi.

MF has great fish and a wide variety of it. Anyone that compares MF to Nickiemoto's, RuSan's, etc. doesn't know good sushi. Sure, other places in the city are cheaper, but not nearly the same quality. If the price bothers you, lunch is a great option- it is cheaper and you get a lot for your money. I agree that it wil take awhile to get your food, so do not go here if you are in a rush. But if you have time to relax with some drinks and some edamame, the time will pass just fine, and the food is well worth it.

I'm convinced that anyone who writes a bad review about this place doesn't really know good Sushi when they eat it and probably consider grocery store Sushi to be good stuff. The atmosphere is very sleek and upscale. The Sushi is incredibly fresh and delicious. Sushi lovers can try tasty items such as the Spicy Tuna Tartar, The Aji (horse mackeral) Sahimi, or the fried baby soft-shell crabs. For Nigiri, try the Kampachi (young yellowtail), Uni (sea urchin) and Tai (Japanese red snapper), For rolled sushi, try to Spider Roll. It's the best Spider Roll I've ever had in my life. For any Sushi you order, make sure to ask for the freshly grated Wasabi root. For desert, try the miniature ice cream pastries in either green tea or mango flavors. MF is not too kid friendly, so try to get a babysitter for night if you can.

I'll keep it short. I have literally lived all over the world and fancy myself somewhat of a sushi snob. I have NEVER had sushi that tasted so bland. The sushi presentation left something to be desired, in that, when one thinks of sushi one thinks of it as art and food. This was just rice and fish on a white plate. Although staff was friendly they were unreceptive to my comments and requests for something else on the menu. Maybe it was an offf night for MF Sushi. I am willing to be fair. Maybe it was just me, but out of 4 very different rolls and 3 pieces of nigiri i could not find ONE that pleased my palet.

waited 30 minutes for a $60 bottle of wine.
after 45 minutes of ordering food, still had not receive simple appetizer. was told large parties were priority.
did not receive food until after 1 hour of ordering. female manager/owner did not apologize for terrible service. 30 minutes after receiving food, was asked if everything was alright.
manager/owner once again did not apologize for anything and in fact placed the blame on my dining companion and me.
was the absolute worst dining experience ever. would not recommend this place to anyone.
no substance, overpriced and terrible service. the unforunate aspect was the food was good but the overall experience and treatment by the staff will keep me and many others away from this overly hyped fish bait. do not go to this place!!!

I went at lunch and the prices were not bad, I think I spent around $8 and that included the ginger salad, soup and I got rolls-- spicy tuna, california rolls, and cucumber rolls. I also tried the eel.. The eel is a must do, although it was $5 for 2. They were well worth it.. The place has a great feel to it, great atmosphere. I will definately go back.

Compared to other higher quality sushi restaurants, MF offers small rolls for expensive prices. Nothing is included with your meal (like ginger salad) as with many other sushi places. THe menu was not extensive (no tempura or noodles) and you do not get full for the $50 or more you will inevitably spend. Forget about this place and try one of the many other sushi places in Atlanta.

We are on vacation with our 10 month old and had to take him everywhere to dinner with us. Sushi is one of our favorite things to eat and wanted to try this place. However, they do not have high chairs or booster seats for kids. But it is a romantic place for adults.

After visiting MF I read the reviews and saw the concerns about the wait times. DO NOT let this stop you from visiting ... the food is worth the wait!! I went with a group and we thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity for conversation. The lobster box (special) was phenomenal - we ordered a second one! Also appreciated the upscale casual feel (we went in jeans) and left totally satisfied by the meal and the service.

I'm a repeat customer at MF. Eat there at least once a week. I've enjoyed every dish that's on the menu. Each dish has its own unique flavor and the fishes are always fresh and delicious. You will not find any restaurant that delivers high quality food, great service, and ambience like of MF Sushibar. The wait is hardly the worry because when you have a bite of their sushi it'll be well worth it!

I have no idea why this restaraunt has gotten such good ratings. There was a good selection of sushi, but the prices were VERY HIGH. Which is fine if the food lives up to the price, but in this case, it did NOT! The pieces were small, and nothing special. I can't believe this place gets voted Best Of....I would NOT recommend it to anyone based on my Saturday night dinner experience

Very stylist, good sushi, but the crowded, noisy, traffic-y, cramped atmosphere unfortunately compromises the dining experience.

MF is the best sushi restaurant we have found in the metro Atlanta area and one of the best I have tried in the whole US. The wait for a table can be a bit long at times but it is well worth it (we usually go on the weekend so it is to be expected). Just order some drinks and appetizers and the wait for the sushi will be fine. Highly recommended.

the fish was fantastic. however, it was absolutely ridiculous how long we had to wait for our orders. the servers were nice, and at least they were prompt at bringing us more sake, but we were there for about three and a half hours, and only had food for half that time. the presentation of our entrees was rotten -- two people were served their full entrees, while one person got one of his rolls and had to wait for the rest, and i got three pieces of sashimi and waited over half an hour longer for my sashimi combination.

i can't say that i hated it, because the fish was really good, the sake selection was excellent, and the servers *were* actually nice -- but jeez. for the love of pete, hire more sushi chefs. that was just ridiculous.

MF used to be great--- however, service is terrible now and you will wait nearly 2 hours for your food -- yes two hours. on a monday night we waiting 1 hour and 45 minutes!! there are better places in town where the service, wait time and food are good. Good bye MF sushi, it was nice while I lasted!
