Message from Portofino

A state of mind!

Portofino is an unassuming restaurant located at 3199 Paces Ferry Place. From the street you can see the beautiful stone and brick patio that offers the most enjoyable outdoor seating in town. The patio spills into a delightful dining room with vaulted ceilings, hardwood floors and bright, energetic artwork. The restaurant is comfortable and casual, and is a neighborhood favorite now in its seventh year. The menu changes seasonally, but favorites always seem to remain. An Italian influence is shown throughout the menu, particularly with traditional dimple pastas; however, we enjoy an open minded expression of American Italian cuisine. Portofino was voted to have the Best Wine List for a Bistro in the Southeast.

It may sound good, but its not 2 Star Rating - Wouldn't recommend

My husband found this restaurant on this site and saw that it had a high review. We decided to give it a try.
At first site it is in a lovely setting. Going in everybody is very friendly. We decided to sit outside, because it was a beautiful day. Now we also had our 2 yr old daughter with us. They put us in a area with the sun in my daughters eyes, and they have nothing to keep her entertained. That is when we found that this is not a family setting. Nothing on that menu had anything kids would eat, unless your child had a very mature taste buds. The waiter was nice but I don't think he carded that much for our service. The food was moderate. Bland, not alot to it. I was hoping for better. If you decide to try, go with friends or just your spouse, and maybe you will have better luck then we did.

Pros: setting
Cons: everything else

Gem! 5 Star Rating - World class

Dined here on New Years Eve. Fantastic service. Food was even better. Try the fried risotto, one of the best snacks I've ever eaten. The osso bucco was fabulous, was a specialty in honor of their anniversary. Crossing my fingers that it will be a permanent addition to the menu. Super fresh pasta. Yummy sorbets.

Great Date 5 Star Rating - World class

I chose Portofino when my date asked me where I would like to go this Friday. I had driven past a few times, it seemed charming, and I've heard good things form friends. After calling, we decided to show up early to sit on the patio which turned into a good decision as the weather was threatening. Our very helpful server made very good suggestions. We ended up with a few things from the regular menu and a few from their regional specials. The sauteed olive mixture was interesting and flavorful. My date like it better than me. My eggplant and goat cheese appetizer was delicious. I could go back for that alone. Our entrees, a halibut and tuna, were both terrific. The pace was a little fast for us, but we were in no hurry. Interesting dessert selection - we chose a strawberry calzone which was sort of like a turnover with rhubarb that we both loved. Service was very friendly without being obtrusive. All in all a great time.

Pros: Lovely patio, service
Cons: A bit fast

Buckhead Fave 5 Star Rating - World class

I hadn't been to Portofino in a while, I forget that it's there. We went last night ,and I remebered how much I like this place. Its been getting better and better over the years. We were able to sit on the patio, which is the best in town. The staff is great, and they never seem to change. A perfect relaxing evening.

Always Great 5 Star Rating - World class

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta. I have been many times over the years, and whether I am sitting inside or outside, I always have a great time. The food is consistently above average, and the wine list always has something interesting. I like the new monthly regional menus as it always gives me something new to order. Everyone I know eats here.
