Everyone says they know a place where the chicken wings are the best. Moes and Joes will prove them all wrong. If you want the best wings ATL has to offer, this is the place. However, it is your standard dive bar. Nothing flashy in there, smoking is allowed which sucks. Beer on tap is good and they usually have the popular sporting game of the day on the flat screens. Their other bar food is good as well.

Pros: Wings are fantastic!

Cons: too smokey inside

Cheap beer equals college kids.

It's a formulaic equation that's been in the curriculum forever. Being one of Atlanta's three oldest hooch establishments, Moe's & Joe's has had things figured out for a while. And with the highland bar being famous for its ridiculous $4 PBR pitchers, it didn't take long for some of the smartest kids in the city (Emory students) to figure out where to go.

The Emor-ites come in packs on Tuesday nights. Mostly with out of state I.D.'s (hopefully the face resembles the picture), and dad's Visa card, things can get pretty loose with America's future doctors and lawyers. And if you get tired of drinking the Blue Ribbon, either walk next door to the Cavern, or across the street to Fontain's for liquor drinks and liquored up post-grads. The trifecta of bars creates a Tuesday night Emor-ite triangle. But it all starts at Moe's & Joe's.

Go Eagles!

Pros: Cold, cheap hooch, Hot, rich college girls

Cons: No liquor

Moe's and Joe's is a true Atlanta institution. The food is nothing to write home about, but the atmosphere, people watching and beer prices make this a standout bar even in the packed Virginia Highlands. Dog friendly patio seating when weather permits lets your favorite pooch enjoy people watching!

I am not a big fan of the food at Moe's & Joe's, but the beer prices are great! I also enjoy the small patio area out front. It is a great place to people watch! Since it is right next to the sidewalk on North Highland Ave, you never know who you may see walking down the street. My boyfriend and I enjoyed a long conversation with a man who in town from India for a wedding, and he was wearing an authentic Scottish kilt. Good times.

Moe's and Joe's is your typical hole in the wall bar that offers lousy food that pretty much no one eats, but can get by from a few alcoholics and really cheap beer that draws poor college students who don't mind that it's been watered down. The atmosphere literally consists of a large open room lined with booths and a few lightly sprinkled decorations. Go to Moe's and Joe's if you are already drunk and just want to pay as little as possible for beer that you are too wasted to enjoy. The waiters and waitresses will be completely indifferent to your presence, but will occasionally resign themselves to providing you with more beer if you are insistent enough. I do not recommend subjecting yourself to Moe's and Joe's.

Pros: Cheep beer if you don't mind that it has no taste

Cons: Bad food, rude waiters, watery beer, and a crummy atmosphere

If you come to Moe's and Joe's looking to get a first class meal, sorry you've come to the wrong place. If you come looking for fun times and a great place to meet young singles, then you can't ask for a better Atlanta mainstay. Every Tuesday night is the pitcher of PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon) for $3.25 and there just isn't a cheaper place to get beer in Atlanta. Also, it's always a fun place to start out and then make your way to other bars in the Virginia Highlands area.

Chips were dumped out of bag. Salsa poured out of a can. Roast beef sandwich was really a hot philly cheese steak. And bartender was also the waiter, which meant SLOW service :(

I've bean going to Moe's & Joe's since the '70's...it's not pretentious and the old scruffy decor is part of the charm....that person who complained is probably an only child nitwit from the burbs. ........Chicken Wings are great as is the other food offerings....I just wish they'd bring back the goose liver sandwich.....staff friendly and accomodating as much as one can expect considering the numerous brats and drunks they have to put up with. Great juke box and down home aura makes the Pabst and other brews go down good....great mixed drink bar next door for those wanting harder stuff.......I highly recommend this place to anybody looking for a great beer swilling environment....indeed.....later, Hollywood Don

Pros: Fits like your favorite pair of broken in jeans

Cons: No place for my cot in the attic

If your looking for a Buckhead kind of crowd, look elsewhere. This place has been in business for over 50 years and is a land mark in Atlanta. Most nights the crowds are in their 30s with the occasional person or couple that were coming here when they were at Emory 40 years ago. You won't find a nicer crowd anywhere in Atlanta. It get's a little rowdy tues, wed, & thurs when specials or trivia are going on thanks to the Emory crowd. Be forewarned though, this place only serves beer, but Arthur always pours a perfect pint. Come here a couple of times and it'll soon be your favorite place in Atlanta to drink and ice cold beer and relax.

Pros: Atmosphere, COLD beer, Good bar food

Cons: Smoking

My fiance took me here a few years a go for a date and it has become a local favorite of ours. The food is great and the beer is cold and cheap. I do suggest getting there early since it can get pretty crowded. Have to love triva night!

Pros: Cheap food, Cheap Beer

Good place to hang out and chill but beware it swarms with Emory students on Tues and Thurs. More fun in the summer when the beer is just as cheap and the crowds are gone.

Great place to go and hang out with friends. A favorite place when I was in college 30+ years ago and we still go from time to time. Horace is what makes it great - nice, but firm. Keeps things under control. I have great memories of this place. Glad to hear Horace is still there and things are still the same!

Really fun place. My husband and I have been going there for almost 20 years. We drive one hour now from our new home to go.

What can you say, great bar food, great people, cheap suds. Any place that keeps a true gentleman like Horace on board is OK by me. I have met folks who were there when Kennnedy was shot, the place eeeks history. It is a great place to hang out!! 4 dollar pitchers ain't bad either....
I hope I last as long as it does.

Moe's & Joe's has crappy service, OK food, and a building that should be condemned. The only thing that is redeemable is their patrons, who are your local down to earth highland people. I don't believe that the bartenders really care that there are people there trying to give their hell hole business. There is always something wrong with a bar that doesn't sell anything but beer and doesn't take credit cards. I just don't get it.

M&J's occupies prime Highland Ave. real estate, and thus attracts a few more button-down, Dave-Matthews-is-the-new-Dylan frat-boy professionals than is strictly necessary, but the menu of appropriately comforting bar food (good burger, great wings, aptly-titled "fried cheese") and a constantly flowing tap of Pabst Blue Ribbon...nectar of the good ole boys...contribute to a congenial and inviting atmosphere. Navigating from the front door to the tables in back can be a Herculean labor during peak evening hours, but the payoff is (hopefully) a comfy seat among comrades in a setting conducive to back-slapping, beer-hoisting good times.
