We visited this place once and we did not experience anything special. They offer average American style food. The lack of variation did not make them distinct from the rest. But the service was good. Overall, we were not totally impressed.

Pros: good service,

Cons: just average food

Came here to try the fried chicken and it was nothing special. It was good but not great. At least I know where to go in a pinch.

I pick restaurants based on whether their food is consistently good. This is one of those places. The entrees are generally American style dishes. Think pork tenderloin with mashed potatoes, or fried chicken with mac and cheese. They also have burgers/sandwiches. The dining area is small but we've never had to wait long for a table. (The bar is huge and what most people go to Atkin's Park for). When you're done eating, make a night of it by wandering over to the bar area for socalizing (always busy) or any of the other VaHi bars withing walking distance.

Atkin's Park Tavern is a great place to go whether it's for drinks or brunch. They've got a bar, a restaurant and private dining area that is open to reserve. Sunday morning brunch is phenomenal.

I go to Atkins Park when I am in the mood for a big Ruben and a side of some homemade macaroni and cheese. I love the fact that all of the smokers and non-smokers can sit comfortably in their own sections!

After all these years, Atkins Park is still one of the best places to get traditional comfort food, like fried chicken, meatloaf and salad. It feels like an Irish Pub inside.

I have visited Atkins Park on many different occasions and feel that it is great day or night. They serve delicious meals as long as the kitchen's open and the bar is open very late. Atkins is always a good time in my book.

A nice place to eat. I love the Boursin cheese stuffed Steak. It is noisy on the bar side, but great on the food side.

This was hands down one of the worst experiences I have ever had at a restaurant. We spent close to two hours in this restaurant, well that time was mostly made up of sitting there with no drinks and food. The service was so unbelievably poor, we were never offered refills on our beers we ordered at the bar, we were never offered water refills until we asked for our check. The waiter actually offered us free drinks because of the wait and guess what...they never came. Our waiter was MIA for most of the time, unhelpful and didn't even know the menu. The waiter also mishandled and misplaced our order and in the end we were doubled charged for the meal which of course we corrected but it took more time. As far as the food....it was an utter disaster. The touted Homemade Garlic Sausage with risotto was hardly edible. The risotto was severely under cooked, it was like eating rocks. If you don't know how to serve risotto, take it off your menu. If we could have found our waiter we would have sent it back but 45 minutes into this ordeal we didn't want to complicate things even more. The sandwiches we ordered were shrimp poboy and italian muffeletta....the shrimp poboy had a whopping 5 shrimp total and about 2 pounds of bread. We actually took a pic with the leftover bread...it actually took up an entire plate. In all the sandwiches were boring, tasteless and mostly bread. I'm just glad I never ordered an actual entree from this place, no telling what that would have been like. The sides were potato salad and fries....if you don't think anyone can make this poorly think again...this place can. The potato salad was sludgy and mushy and tasteless once again. And the fries were overcooked.

What's sad is when we left we actually went to another restaurant a block away to order drinks and appetizers so we wouldn't feel we wasted our night out.

Do yourself a favor and stay very far away. The only reason this establishment is alive is due to it's location.

Great food and great drink together. What more could you ask for? Atkins Park Tavern is completely welcoming and you feel like you have been coming there for years, even though its your first time. It seemed like there were tons of regulars there as well, and everybody was having a fantastic time. Definitely my new favorite spot to go to in the Highlands. I'm happy with how great everything was an exceeded my expectations, even though Atkins Park's reputation is so good. I will most definitely be coming back more often.

I like Atkins Park because you can go to one side and have a steak or a somewhat upscale meal (but not too expensive), while on the other side you have a burger and a beer... depends on your mood.

I would rather have a drink here than eat. Men seem to like it but to me it's worse than my own cooking. The atmosphere is cool thanks to age and history.

I just realized how old I'm getting writing this review, after being a fan of Atkin's Park the past thirty(?) years. I believe that Atkin's Park is the oldest licensed bar in the city. During my days at GSU, we would come here and get toasted, with real neighborhood regulars. Yes, it's "Cheer's" in Atlanta. Love it when someone has had too much, and they grab the brass rail at the front door to open and nothing happens, as it is not the real door, and you have to go to the side of the entrance window. Over the years, it's only gotten better with age, hopefully as I have, extended a nice dinner menu, on the restaurant side. We just sit in the bar area, with the great bar menu. Late night dining is a must. An Atlanta tradition, and icon! Check-out the great Sunday Brunche's and Bloody's!

Pros: Atlanta Icon, Bar Food, Drinks & Neigborhood Crowd!

Cons: Parking could be a problem, if driving!

I'd have to say this is probably my favorite bar in the Highlands. The food is really good for a bar (try the specials!) and there are always people in here even on a sunny Sunday afternoon in the middle of summer. On the weekend nights, it can get pretty packed in here...fairly diverse crowd. Bartenders are good as well. I believe there is a nonsmoking section next door in the restaurant area.

Yes, I ventured out and tried Food 101. It does not have the family neighborhood feel of Atkins and most of all the food did not even come close to the great menu selections, home style cooking and large portions you get at Atkins. Not to mention at a better price. I don't need to pay for a fancier look. I like the comfortable feel of Atkins Park with my friends. The positive is, by venturing out, I found out how good we have it here. I will be loyal in the future.

For you "non-damn-Yankees" the real name for the famous Boston bar and setting for the TV series, "Cheers!" is "The Bull & Finch Pub". Atkin's Park has exactly that type of old school, down-to-earth hospitality, drinker's bar, and a consistantly tastey menu. I actually met my now wife there some 8 years ago. Atkin's is divided into (at least) two distinct scenes: the restaurant side is a more private area with tall booths while the bar side transforms from a quiet daytime bar scene into a lively bar scene by night. As for the (obviously OTP) folks who went there after IMAX, sorry, Va Hi does not cater to the Applebee's crowd. When you are there on a Friday night, it *will* be crowded. Say hi to Irv for me...

This is always my first stop on the Highlands crawl. They play great music, obscurer Alt rock which is always rare in Atlanta. Very laid back feel. Can easily get crowded latter in the evening.

I was so surprised that this neighboorhood bar had such an appetizing menu, and even more so when the food melted in my mouth. I had the trout, which was OUT OF THIS WORLD! The service was excellent. Don't miss this spot.

Atkins Park is probably the only restaurant in Atlanta that has never let me down. Whether I want bar food or a nice meal, the food is always fresh and hot and the service is quick and attentive. The apple galette and chocolate ganache cake are TO DIE FOR. My boyfriend adores their fried chicken.

After having a great time at Martini's at the Imax. We wanted to grab a late dinner. Someone sent us to Atkins. It was nearly impossible to find a parking spot and then when we finally did we were told it was permit parking only, on a public street!! The food was ok. Someone had the fried chicken and loved that but I had the filet and it was overcooked and tough. Also don't offer a very high quality wine list. All and all I wouldn't say its worth fighting for a parking spot and the bar crowd was loud.

Atkins Park is a great place to grab a beer and have a plate of hot food. They consistantly please me with an American/Cajun menu of simple choices such as fried chicken and mashed potatoes, to spicy fried catfish. The ambiance is what it is, of a local pub kept up with. Service has always bene pleasing, and the prices are reasonable. Definitely a great place to eat or have a drink after work.

I totally disagree with the last rating entitled "the customer is always wrong!". I have been going to Atkins Park for years and find it to be one of the more enjoyable bar/restaurant atmospheres in town! I frequently bring collegues and clients in for lunch (and I work for a major Atlanta corporation) because I know I will get excellent service and quality food. The pleasant interaction between staff and customers is excellent. It really makes you feel and look good. The drinks are poured like they should be and Chef Rusty is a true talent! I will put his menu up against other Va. Highlands restaurants any day!!!

The backyard patio is a prime weekend-wasting spot, but the dark and cozy interior, especially in the bar area, sports a cavernous intimacy all its own. The brick-lined corridor/courtyard that runs along the side is also a comfortable and inviting alternative, great for meeting with friends for drinks and appetizers. I happened to witness a weekend crawfish boil here recently, well-stocked with young and tanned types blithely grooving to the world's pre-eminent generic skynyrd-aping bar/jam band. Even so, it was a good time.

I'm not crazy about the bar scene here, but there isn't a better place for late-night (non-breakfast) food. Order the soft pretzels with honey mustard once and it'll become a tradition. My boyfriend, on the other hand, is a wing-addict. Literally. He's been known to both start and finish a night in the Highlands with a basket of Atkin's Park wings. The English waitresses are always really nice and patient with rowdy groups.
I'm not sure if it's an annual event, but the crawfish festival is definitely worth checking out too. Beer, spicy crawfish and music all day long. Doesnt get much better.
