We take our pets to Kay for checkups. They have done everything from getting rid of heart worms to having them spade. They are by far the best vet around.

I took my dog in for concerns that his lower jaw was chattering, he was pawing his muzzle and he was no longer eating. I suggested that maybe he had something stuck in his tooth (he had in the past). A tech came in and tried to look into his mouth and when she couldn't do it alone, she said "Okaaaay..." and then left the room. Meanwhile, I could hear conversations behind the door about how they liked fried okra vs. boiled okra and reports on their weekends. I knocked on the door---she stuck her head in chewing a mouthful of something. I asked, " What's happening now? You just left and didn't tell me anything. Am I waiting on the doctor?" With a full mouth, she replied, "Yes." I waited another 10 minutes. In the room, my dog had come upon some urine to lick from a previous patient-- so I had to hold him until the vet came in. She didn't introduce herself. After looking in his mouth, I was told that he'd have to be sedated in order for her to fully see if anything was in there. She exuded an air of apathy and I was not about to let people as unprofessional as these put my dog to sleep for a procedure!
I was praying on the way home for my dog to get some assistance and came upon Douglas Oaks. I went in and it was like night and day: CLEAN and clean-SMELLING, smiling staff, professional and friendly vet who smiled and shook my hand, interacted with my dog and gave him a FULL exam. Turns out he had an abscessed tooth--they diagnosed him without sedatives! Imagine that. I will NEVER go to Dr. Kay's again and am telling everyone I know about the WONDERFUL experience at Douglas Oaks (on Hwy 5)!
Funny how some of these favorable reviews have the same speech patterns and syntax. Hmmmmmm. Go figure.

I originally heard about Dr. Kay through word of mouth, and it was all positive. Took my puppy there and I loved it! The care was top notch and I felt he was getting the best treatment possible.

What attracts me most is that is a dad and son running the place - I like to support local businesses. When my dog had stitches she was rough housing with my other dog and ripped open the stitches, but I was able to take her right up to Dr. Kay and he fixer it free of charge!

For what it is worth, I absolutely love it at Kay's Animal Hospital. I get right in and I'm taken care of immediately! The biggest thing with me is trust, and I trust them there, if I didn't trust them, I wouldn't be there.

We have two Dogs (over 7 yrs of age) going here for the past 5 years. We are Very Impressed with all the Doctors and the staff. Our dogs had their teeth cleaned here and were put to sleep for the cleaning (the teeth came out great). One dog has had eye surgery to get a small tumor out. Prices are very good. We boarded our dogs here for a few days also and it was a good boarding visit.

I have been bringing my dogs to Kay Animal Hospital for several years, and we absolutely love it. We unfortunately had to put one of our dogs down, but the staff was extremely supportive and compassionate. We bring our other dog there for everything; from checkups to surgeries. Every single time I go there, I am overly impressed- they are the best! We would definitely recommend them as we trust them with a member of our family!

I had been taking my dog to Dr. Jim Kay and Dr. Michael Kay for over 15 years. The last few months my baby boy was having thyroid problems which one of the vets that was there part time on a Friday afternoon did blood work and found that it was his thyroid so we started him on medicine. Then he got to loosing a lot of weight, he went from 31lbs to 20lbs and I called and talked with Michael Kay and told him my baby wasn't eating and he told me it was because it was because the weather was so hot. So I had to take him in to have some blood work done to make sure his thyroid medication was working. I don't know what happened but they had a new girl who was a big girl that had just started working there and Dr. Jim Kay went back to see what was taking so long. The next day I had my baby at the emergency hospital in Lithia Springs because he had had stroke so they gave him a couple of shots and I took him home and was up all night with him. So on Sunday I had him back at the emergency hospital and the doctor said he wasn't going to get any better so I had to have him put to sleep. You would think after all these years with Dr. Kay that they would have known something wasn't right especially with his weight going from 31lbs to 20lbs. I will never use this vet again if I ever decide to get another dog because they should have done more test on him to find out what the problem was. I called Dr. Kay the next day to let him know what happened and he would not even talk to me and never called me back to say that he was sorry. Just beware of all these reviews that people are talking about.

I have been going to this vet for many years and have mostly dealt with the son, Michael Kay. Unfortunately when my dog became ill, Michael Kay was in Europe, so I had to have the father, James Kay take care of my dog. She was very sick and had to have surgery. A simple surgery turned into a second surgery because something was missed. I was told the second surgery would have another doctor assist. I was assured she would be fine and sent home and told not to come back for 10 days. After a long weekend of the dog being in pain and discomfort, which I was not given meds, because I was told it was not needed. Come Monday morning, the dog had yet more complications. You'd think 2 surgeons could do a surgery correctly. I was told more tests were needed and I'd get a phone call shortly to be assessed of the situation. After 2 phone calls and 5 hours later, I was told a third surgery was performed....WITHOUT my knowledge I might add and also WITHOUT a follow up phone call!! At this point I was in contact with a different doctor ready to have another opinion, I was NOT intending on confirming to a third surgery, but since I was never informed, I did not have the choice!! I was told to pick her up later that day and to bring her in the following morning for a follow up. Instead of bringing me into a private room to go over post op instructions or to bring me my dog, instead, the dog was brought to me in the lobby and that was it!! No further discussions with Dr. James Kay! I took my dog to another vet the following morning and things were not good at all. It has been a downward spiral since. She is very sick and is now in need of a 4th surgery in less than 2 weeks time because of internal bleeding. How can 3 surgeries be done so poorly? This is a very small dog I might add and I'm not sure she will make it. I will NEVER bring another living animal to this hospital. I hope and pray anyone reading this review will also avoid this vet at any cost, possibly at the cost of your animals life!! \n\nThe reason why I gave this review one star is because you have to give it a rating in order to publish your review, if it were up to me, I'd give this a negative star rating!!

The Kay's are world class, or 1st class whichever you prefer. They have been my vet for OVER 30 years.....that has to stand for something? It is a family business and a good one at that. When i see these bad reviews, well, I had to write my review of 30 years to acknowledge over and over they have done everything from yearly exams to emergency services. Top Notch. Before you believe the 1 or 2 bad reviews, go see for yourself - you WILL NOT be sorry!

I am new to the area and I gave Dr. Michael Kay a shot at becoming my new vet. He spent 30 minutes in the room explaining everything my little "bengie" needed for the year and found out the dog had a low thyroid? I was very impressed with Dr. Michael Kay and the staff there went above and beyond. I would highly recommend them to anybody in the area. Nice to have a Dr. speck in real world terms and not make me feel stupid!! Thanks Kay Animal I will see you in the future.

My daughters collect animals. We have had to take our animals to Kay Animal Hospital for car accidents, poisoning, dog/cat bites, mega esophogus, hip dysplasia and routine check ups. They do not nickel and dime you to death, are very caring and willing to go the extra mile to help solve problems and have, on a few occasions, kept our animals to observe them for conditions they were not sure about. We rescue strays and try to give them a good environment but sometimes injuries and illness happens and Dr. Michael Kay, Dr. Jim Kay and Dr. Kinney have been fantastic along with their staff. Thank you for all you do! You have our support and gratitude.

I took my dog to Dr. Michael Kay because he was losing weight. He did some blood work and called me and said he was a little anemic but not to worry. My dog continued to lose weight. I continued to call and take him in and Dr. Kay continued to reassure me my dog would be fine. I knew something was wrong. I searched for reviews on the internet and read the one on Dr. Michael Kay where they went through the same thing and eventually had to put their dog down. I immediately went to Douglas Oaks Vet Hospital (great vets) for a second opinion. They found a tumor. They did an ultrasound and the tumor was the size of a small baby. They told me a normal hematocrit is 45. When Dr. Kay tested it is was 26. That is not a little anemic. By the time he got to Douglas Oaks Vet Hospital it was 20. How could Dr. Kay miss this you ask? Who knows? I took my dog to Georgia Veterinary Specialists (surgeons) (great vets) to have the tumor removed. The tumor weighed just under 6 lbs. Total cost for the surgery $3,100. My dog is also going to have to be on drugs to cure the cancer. Thanks Dr. Kay.

Please do not take your animals to Dr. Michael Kay, the son of the Dr. Jim Kay is absolutely the most apathetic person I've ever seen after spending over $800 on tests and giving no complete answers he sent our extremely sick dog home with little to no explanation. We actually found out that he didn't even give one of the meds that we paid for and he charged twice for x rays that we never saw nor got any indication that he even did them. Our poor little boy took meds with us calling back over and over to the vet for help understanding what we were going to do, with so many unanswered calls and when we would show up he would only give us another med to try, he had NO IDEA what was causing the problem. We had to take our little boy to another vet and he had to be put to sleep, I know I'm angry for losing him and I'm sure that's a great excuse for Dr. Kay to use if anyone reads this. TRUST ME, he gave my husband and I some crap about previous employees he had to fire for stealing from his dad that were writing bad reviews online.. Now, I don't believe it. Whether my advice is taken or not, please keep this post in mind. I am completely devasted at my loss and I really hope that I can help someone make a decision not to let this happen to them. If I can save one animal from this same treatment it will be worth it. If Michael Kay had really tried to diagnose him and not talk around every problem maybe he would still be with us. I wish I had never stepped foot in that building, I wish I had never taken my little boy to that place, but it's too late for us now. Please don't let your baby be the next!!!

After trying a couple of others including Banfields, I feel very comfortable & happy with the care given my 3 cats over the last 2 yrs. Drs are very kind & take their time wih you & explain everything. Staff is also very nice & helpful. I have also e-mailed questions & gotten responses in a timely manner. Their prices seem to be on par with others ( if not a little less ) in the area & they are willing to work with you. On Saturdays you don't need an appointment & I have never had a problem & that's with bringing all 3 at the same time. I recommend them wholeheartedly.

Our Pitt Bull, Bear, was under the care of Dr. Kay for 10 years. Hard to believe but....BEAR NEVER DREADED A VISIT TO DR. KAY!

Bear contracted cancer and because of his age, we chose not to put him through aggressive treatments. The entire vet staff was supportive, respectful, helpful, loving and caring throughout the heart wrenching ordeal of dealing with Bear's cancer and having to decide when his quality of life diminished to the point of having to put him to sleep. Their concern and care eased the pain--for Bear and for all of us who loved him.

Thank you for loving and caring for our pet. Your compassion and skill helped us get through having to say good-by.

I took my dog there after she had puppies, and she was very sick. She was having foul drainage and had a fever of 104. He never checked her for any retained material. He gave her an antibiotic, and said that she had a minor infection. Later that night, she delivered a dead puppy. The previous had been delivered 3 days prior. She could have died. I will never use him again.

Dr. James Kay saved the life of my terrier, following a dog attack. I will always respect him for the way he handled her case. She's given me much joy since and will for years to come. Our three Greyhounds are vetted there too. Dr. Michael Kay is on our Southeastern Greyhound Association list, as knowledgeable about Greyhounds. They have unique reactions to anesthesia and their specific blood test results make it imperative that a vet be learned in their breed. The staff is caring, gentle and listen to the owner. I couldn't ask for more than they give me. I highly recommend them to everyone.

Dr. James Kay has been my vet since I was in grade school and now b/c it's a family business, his son is now treating my Shadow, that is the love of my life! They are one of the best vets around! Their staff is knowledgeable and compassionate. Their prices are fair and I trust them!! Rena' is one of my favorite vet assistants and Kim (Dr. James Kay's daughter and Dr. Michael Kay's sister) is wonderful to deal with.
