Seize the day, or go ahead and get lively and commence celebration after the day has already been seized. From the same people who brought you Carpe Diem, Carrol St. Cafe, & AMUSE!, it's the old standby, always accountable for foreign pleasure, Apre Diem. Don't let the shopping center location fool you, this international bistro coffee house is a great place to take a date, it's definatly an experience. Get cozy on the couches, or cozy up to the bar, the place might not be outta this world, but it's surely outta this continent.

Pros: Gorgeous, internatiuonal wait staff, the desserts

Cons: parking, shopping center isn't exactly exotic

The staff are friendly and jovial and Chef Ciro is the greatest!

Pros: Fried calamari is the bomb, the best I've had in Atlanta!

Cons: Not much space to move in and out of the tables

A great, diverse crowd of Atlanta-dwellers sporting accents from all over the world mingle at the bar, couples on dates grab two-top patio tables, and groups of old pals get ensconce themselves on the plush couches at this multi-purpose restaurant/bar/coffee shop. The menu features Mediterranean-tinged small plates and dishes including a delicious gyro sandwich and a huge fruit and cheese plate that is perfect for sharing after a movie next door. In the warmer months, grab a table outdoors and split a bottle of wine and enjoy the people watching.

This place has become one of my favorites to get work done during the day when I just can't face the office! They offer plenty of outlets at the bar to plug computers in, and the bartenders are really sweet. Let me warn you: this is a relaxed atmosphere! If you are in a hurry ,you may want to tell your server when you sit down. I'm not usually in a hurry for it to matter but it's good to let the staff know so that they can accommodate you. Overall, good place to hang, people watch and maybe fit in some work.

Apres Diem is the BEST place for a romantic night out...I know, everyone says it, but it's true! My boyfriend, Garrett and I had our first date there, have been going for months and just had our one year anniversary there.
It's got killer ambiance, a fantastic wine selection and super good food. But, it's the atmosphere that's the real reason I love it! It's cozy, even outside on the patio and the DJ's rock.
Definitely get the Fruit and Fromage...great with their Bordeaux!
I highly recommend this place!

The best thing about Apres Diem is that it can truly be whatever you want it to be. I have found that it's a versatile and dependable spot and no matter what, I am always comfortable.
It's a very RELAXED place, so if you're looking for hoity toity, you're not going to find it. The food is great, unpretentious and tasty and the wine list is extensive and very affordable.
Week-end nights can get super busy, especially if you're sitting at the bar or in the lounge, but all you have to do is pop outside to the patio for a quieter and less fast paced experience.
The service is solid, but don't expect to be doted on. They are efficient and friendly and not in your face every 5 seconds, which I personally appreciate.
And not only do they have free wi-fi, they have tons of outlets at the bar to plug in your computer.
If you haven't been----Go! It's great overall.

Apres Diem seeths with pretention from the moment you step through the door. From the obnoxiously loud music to the ridiculously priced art on the wall this place clearly thinks itself more important than it actually is. I enjoy dining as an experience and this supposed Euro themed establishment has very little that is European about it at all. The menu is an unfocused spattering of dishes. There are only four tapas selections, but several appetizers, coupled with a page and a quarter of sandwiches and only six entree selections. It is a very strange selection to say the least, but the entrees were surpisingly good. I ordered the beef tenderloin and although it was tender it was rather flavorless, but that was covered up by a clever mushroom and wine reduction that was flavored nicely with beef stock. The only real complaint about the food was the very drab salad that was lacking much dressing at all. The wine and drink list is extremely small, and the pinot noir that was recommended to my wife was horrid, but that no doubt was a reflection of the poor service that we had. The waitress seemed completely disinterested and wrote on the ticket when it was brought to our table "Your tip of 18% is greatly appreciated." I have been to a lot of restaurants in this country and some abroad and have never had such a thing written on the ticket especially not when such poor service was provided. My wife and I were both taken aback. All that said this is not a bad restaurant it is clearly just full of itself and needs new management or at least for management to become revived with a sense of what a restaurant like this should be like. I would recommend eliminating the sandwich selections in favor of a larger tapas selection with a few more viable entrees. Also server wine education would be wonderful or they might should even employ a sommelier that could update and refresh the wine selection. And finally turn the music down. Background noise is great but part of going to dinner is to have conversation over a meal and that is not possible when you can't hear one another.

The service was good, the food was decent, and the music was just right. Everyone appeared to be having a good time which greatly contributed to the mellow vibe.

Pros: The ambiance along is worth the visit.

Cons: Kind of difficult to find

Food was decent service, however, the service was poor. But that wasn't the worst part. As we were sitting in our corner booth we were attacked by a c0ckr0ach! The waitress came over, grabbed a cloth napkin (you know, the ones they wrap your utensils in) from the table, and without hesitation, grabbed the creature from our bench.
Nasty!

My friends and I came here before going to see a movie next door. The restaurant was very busy when we arrived (early Friday evening) and when our waitress greeted us we told her we needed to order soon because we were pressed for time. She asked what time we needed to leave and took our order. Even though they were busy, our food came out in no time. (granted, we didn't order a well-done steak or anything) I had the Greek salad with shrimp and it very fresh and delicious. The cocktail prices are very cheap, especially considering the prime location. So, overall, our service was speedy and efficient, the food was great and we didn't spend much money at all. In fact, we ended up coming back for more drinks after the movie because a DJ had just started to spin. We will definitely be back.

This is my favorite Atlanta hang-out the ambiance is great, candle-lit tables, good DJ's, comfy couches, gorgeous women and live jazz every wednesday evening!
Don't come here expecting white table cloth service, it's an informal atmosphere conducive to taking your time over a leasurly dinner with a group of friends soaking up the most truly euro vibe in Atlanta. On any given night you'll probably find yourself sitting between a group of spanish patrons on your left and bulgarians on your right..
The food here is simple but fresh ( the calimari is the only fried item on the menu) and jenerously portioned, many of the appetizers are big enough for a meal. Apres is my favorate place to order entree salads in Atlanta. The wine list is HUGE! I've never seen so many wines by the glass and the mixed drinks are STRONG, you've been warned!

I went here with my sorority for desserts after a ritual. We had made a reservation in advance, and when we arrived, we were told that they "didn't expect us to arrive at the same time" so they had nowhere to seat us. We were seated outside, instead of in the room we had reserved. We ordered our dessert items, and waited. And waited. Finally, about an hour later, some of our party began to receive their orders. But not all. I, along with about 15 other people, never got our food. So we asked the waitress after about 20 minutes where our desserts were, and her response was "oh sorry, we ran out. Would you like to order something else?" At this point, I had been there for over an hour and a half, and said no. It took 30 minutes after that to get my check, then another 15 to get the receipt. The waitress was incompetent and rude the entire meal, the entire staff was impolite, and the food (I hear) wasn't even worth the wait. On the plus side, the atmosphere was nice. Inside, not outside. I will never go here again- I wish I would have listened to the reviews. Better to go next door to The Highlander bar- it seemed to be a pretty awesome place.

A small group of us went to this restaurant to celebrate a friend?s b day. The staff was very rude not to mention extremely slow. He appeared to be under the influence. I had to ask for my glass of wine 3 time then was informed they were out of it. The server called out the entrees and held them over our head until someone claimed them (classy). The food was awful especially the calamari. The menu was as uncreative and unsophisticated as they come.

The check literally took 40 minutes to arrive at the table and the server refused to split it after adding a nice tip for himself. The manager was awful and did nothing to help ease such an awful restaurant experience.

I will make sure I tell everyone I know to never go to this sorry excuse for a restaurant and will be thankful for the day that they go out of business.

This is the place my boyfriend and I go to when we want to go out but don't have a place in mind. The food -- great every time. The hummus is absolutely the best I have ever eaten. The Greek salad is wonderful. My bf loves the sandwiches. We have been many times and the food is consistently good. The atmosphere -- something for everyone. The dining room and patio are candle lit and romantic -- good for dates. There is a lounge in the back for coffee or drinks with your friends. Plus a bar area for getting loud. Service is good. Occasionally there is jazz or other live music. Prices for the apps, pasta, sandwiches, and salads are good. My only complaint: The entrees are priced too high, so we've never tried them. Definitely give this place a try.

I always know I can go to this place and get what I'm looking for. The food is excellent and fairly priced. The servers are all beautiful. The dessert case always kills my diet. They have great jazz on Wednesdays. And for a professional drinker like me, its always nice to know that a Ketel One cocktail is only 6$. Not many other places in the city with that price. And the freaking mussels are ammmmaaaazzzing.

I was amazed at how filthy this restaurant was on the inside. There was a layer of dust on the window sill behind my table. I had always eaten outside in the past and did not realize the inside was so dirty.

With so many choices for good food in the Midtown Promenade shopping center, you're making the wrong decision if you stop here to eat. I can't believe it's still here after several years.

The first time I ate here, years ago, the food was pretty good. The shrimp cakes were tasty. But I remember the service being aloof and lackadaisical. From the 4-5 times I've had to eat there (not by my choice) it seems that they tend to hire for attractiveness over competence, as if there needs to be a choice between the two. Slow, inattentive service is pretty sad considering the relatively small size of the dining room.

The food is the main reason to avoid this restaurant, though. Unrinsed fruit, uncooked chicken sandwiches, cold food that should be hot. Not only is it unpleasant, but it's just not safe to serve undercooked meat. And this is consistent with gaps of more than a year between times eating there. The desserts look good but just aren't flavorful. This is no way to run a restaurant.

Their sister restaurant in Decatur is slightly better, but that's not a positive comment.

This is the comment I submited in an email to the manager, Big surpised that it was bounce back as unable to deliver mail box full:

I suggested to my international quest we dine and drink at your Bistro.
Our first impression was given to us by a waiter. He stated we could
not sit at the only clean table we had picked out. He did not direct
us to where we could sit. We sat down at a half clean table. The menu
had food stains on them. The server Brooke didn't make eye contact
with any on my quest one from France the other from Korea. My Cheese
Tortellini was over cooked cold and the sauce tasted like ketchup with
water added. Brooke didn't check to see if the food or the empty
drinks were acceptable. Brooke did return with transparent smiles &
the check we had not requested .
I left with regrets and embarrassment for my restaurant choice.

I will be the first to admit that I have never tried the food at Apres, but it's a fav among my late night hangouts. I could sit on the patio for hours chatting it up with friends or just stop in for a quick glass of wine after catching a flick at Midtown Art Cinema next door. The staff is friendly and the music is pumping-go on a Sunday to hear DJ Bigg H. Check it out.

Pros: good music, nice patio

Cons: wine list could use improvement

All the times I have eaten here the food has been rather disappointing. Appetizers were ok. However coffee and drinks are good! Love the location since it's right outside the Midtown Art Cinema. Lots of patio seating which is great for summer/fall evenings. Romantic atmosphere. Inside, the music is good, the bar is busy, and the lounge couch seating is also nice.

I had your sashimi grilled last night at around 9 o'clock. Just wanted to say thanks so much for making me spend the rest of the evening in my bathroom. I hope for your sake no one else had that same magical experience and that you take a closer look at your fish.

As a non-smoker, I was disappointed when I realized that patrons could smoke both on the outdoor patio and inside the restaurant (although that seemed to be going on at the bar). However, I could smell the smoke and was very disgusted. When we walked in, we sat ourselves at a table in the corner. After waiting a little longer than acceptable, we flagged down a server to inquire as to the location of our actual server. He finally came, and was very helpful when he came over. Although my friend was a little slow at deciding what he wanted, the server was very patient and helped us pick our drinks. The drink menu was small, and consisted of a list of martinis and available spirits. I actually ordered a French martini with the help of the server and found it to be wonderful. For food, I ordered the portobello mushroom sandwich and enjoyed it for it was. I think that the prices are great here, but the variety is limited. There were maybe 5 entrees, a sandwich list, a pasta list, and a breakfast list. Maybe salads too, I can't remember. I am a much bigger fan of Cafe Intermezzo. Unfortunately, we went on a Friday night and the music was loud and smoke was wafting throughout the restaurant. This really compromised any romantic or relaxed ambiance that I had heard about. Overall, my first visit was about average and I would only return here instead of Cafe Intermezzo if I didn't feel like driving far from where I live. Also, if I didn't mind the smoke.

My husband and I stopped in here after catching a movie at the Midtown Art Cinema. As we walked into the movie we noticed how romantic and quaint it looked and could not resist ourselves afterwards. Sometimes in Atlanta, you never know what you are going to get, attitude, or poor service/food, etc. We were pleasantly surprised, we wandered around for a second but were quickly guided to seat ourselves. We sat on the outdoor patio where the small candlelit tables and nearby lively conversations were very exciting. The DJ was spinning out the hits, the ambiance was romantic and the artwork gallery was compelling. We ordered wine and dessert and $12 later had a wonderful late night treat, great attentive service and the promise that we would return soon.

My fiance and I decided to stop by here for our first time after a day of sun at the park had left us exhausted and thirsty! When we walked in there was a sign that said "seat youself". We took a table inside near the windows so we could enjoy a few minutes of air conditioning and cool off. We were quickly greeted with water and a warm smile from a pretty young brunette. She introduced herself as Terrie and asked if we had ever been there before. When we told her we had not she told us about some drinks that she said were her favorites. I took her advice and ordered a raspberry margarita and my fiance ordered a Bass. The drinks came out quickly and cold. We ordered the fruit and cheese plate that our server recommended and were again very satisfied. While we dined our water was always full and the table was kept clear. We only had an appetizer, but it was great and it was a rare treat to have service in Atlanta from someone who actually seemed to enjoy their job. We will definitely be back !

Last night was my first visit to Apres Diem. We arrived around 9pm and had no trouble finding a table. We sat outside and the atmosphere was great! Our server wasted no time taking our drink orders; I got the Pomegrante Martini. Delicious and strong! For an appetizer we ordered the Baba Ghanouj; roasted eggplant and pita bread. We were not disappointed here either. I ordered the Almond Encrusted Chilean Sea Bass as my entree and truth is, it melted in my mouth!!!!! My fiance ordered the steak special, Sirloin and King Crab Legs, this too proved to be amazing. When we left the restaurant we agreed we would definitely return. David was our server. He was extremely attentive and friendly. Great atmosphere, service and food!

I knew I was in trouble when I happened to look up at the ceiling and there seemed to be dust bunnys all over the rafters. It was disgusting to look at. Now, lets talk about the concept of a bistro. Bistros are supposed to be faster than a restaurant. Apres Diem definitely avoids any association with the word fast. In this case, I think that bistro is an attempt to say that Apres Diem is some kind of French or European dining experience. However, when I looked at the menu I found precious little that would give me that impression. Several sandwiches, a handful of typical appetizers, and standard breakfast fare says nothing European to me. I ended up ordering one of the specials which was a Belgian Waffle with Scrambled Eggs and Sausage. The Waffle came out with the Eggs on top of the Waffle. I guess this was some type of attempt at creativity but it made it gross. The Waffle itself was hard in places except the soggy areas where the eggs were laying. I have had much better waffles out of my toaster oven. All of the components of the meal were stale and seemed to have been laying around in the back since first thing that morning. Lastly, the service was absolutely pathetic. I mean, I am really sorry that we inconvenienced our waitress by coming in that day. I will make sure it never happens again.

This place is really great. It has many different areas to sit- a front patio and covered patio, a comfortable lounging area, bar area, and a large space with just regular dinner tables. I moved around several times. I came for Wednesday jazz night, and it set a very cool atmosphere. The servers are wonderful as well, very polite and friendly. I had a Chai tea for only 2-dollars-something-cents, and it came in a huge mug, very delicious as well. I also had the most delicious cheesecake/chocolate custard cake ever, I forget what she called it though- sooo creamy complemented with raspberry sauce and whipped cream to make it absolutely heavenly. If I ever get a boyfriend, I'd definately take him here, because it would be a very romantic setting, it's dark with candles everywhere. There are many singles there as well (and guys that'll buy you drinks)- very strong long island iced tea by the way. I highly recommend Apres Diem.

We came here for dinner before a movie and were very happy with the food and service. I had the salmon farfalle and my husband had the fettucini, both dishes were excellent. They have deserts from Alon's which are great. We will definately come back here!

First, I would like to start off with a quick rebuttal to some of the server rants:
I have been at apres for ..a very long time.. and i absolutely agree, there are servers that are a little hot headed, but the majority of us are very competent and try to be as accommodating as possible. To the person who was upset that one has to ask for a wine refill: unfortunately we cannot read minds, and would get in far more trouble bringing you an extra glass of wine that you didn't want, we try to ask. i'm not trying to make excuses so..
Here are some hints to having a more enjoyable expirience:
-try to come on a weekday- these are slower and a lot more relaxed.
-apres diem IS NOT a five star restaurant: if you look at our prices they are comparable to joes on juniper (not considering the entrees). please don't expect the same service as a five star
-if the restaurant appears busy, make your way to the back patio (all the way around the side of the restaurant) normally there are not very many people so your server has much more time for you.
-at 9 a DJ comes in- its going to get loud, also around this time certain parts of the restaurant turn into a more bar-like setting, so please be aware
-and please: if you find anything about your service, or the food that you dislike- try and tell us in kind words- unfortunately we have customers that speak very harshly, and unnessecary flared tempers are caused
-this is a service industry and we work for tips, so we try VERY hard to please you
..so once again- i think you can find a very enjoyable expirience at apres diem by using these tips.

Service : good in general.
Food : I really recommend the "Pork Confit", the quality of this dish varies during time (from excellent to average) but it is very rare to find such a good quality for this price in this area.
Ambience : Good. Prefer to come at night, sometime noisy (depending on the DJ).

While I think Apres Diem sets a nice atmosphere and the food is good, **it is all but erased by the poor service and bad attitude of the many waitresses** there. While the restaurant has some good servers, at least half of them act like it is you, the customer, who should be grateful that they are gracing you with their presence.

Overall I would have to discourage this restaurant until they can get some more pleasant help staff. Too bad.

Love it all. I have never had a terrible experience at this restaurant. Usually a great place for a first dates or meeting friends if you are prone to be more comfortable in casual environment. It is never too noisy and there is always eyecandy as artists are showcased on the walls.

I went to Apres Diem the other night with some friends. We were seated very quickly and so we thought "wow, what luck". Unfortunately that's where the luck ended. It took 15 minutes for a waitress to come over and take our drink order, then another 10 minutes to take our meal orders. When the drinks were served they were placed in front of us without asking who had ordered which wine. A friend wasn't served her glass of wine until she got up (15 minutes after everyone alse had their glass) and asked a server what was going on.
The appetizers were mediocre, I don't know why everyone is so crazy about the hummus, it was average.
Overall, way too much hype for a restaurant with subpar service and average food. Would definitely not recommend and will never return.

I've been to Apres a few times and each has been a good experience. I've only tried the hummus off the bar menu, but it was some of the best I have tried. The waitstaff is mostly attentive & friendly and the drinks are good. From a first date to surfing your laptop on a mundane day, Apres would be great to visit anytime.

I went to Apres again yesterday afternoon, on a warm day for January (1/6/08 ), & had such a nice experience I thought I would update my earlier review. I have been 3-4 times since that last post & each visit has been enjoyable. Yesterday I sipped some vanilla bean hot tea that the waitress recommended while my friends had coffee & a sandwich; we sat outside but under the shade & could have stayed for hours. I have read some not so great reviews on here about Apres' food but every time I eat there (great sandwiches) I think it's delicious & fresh. I would definitely try this place if you haven't before & take a date!

unlike most restaurants don't expect to get what you want. Wait staff should remember to be polite if they can't be helpful. We asked for eggs well done and waitress anounced that it would be too much trouble for the kitchen staff especially since they "expected to be busy". At this hour there were only two other people eating. If this is how they plan to treat customers, they will not be busy too much longer. Definitely not getting any of my money.

I can see why on the surface, a lot of people like Apres Diem. It has a great patio, it's convinient in spite of it's strip mall location and it's generally happening with a good looking, hip crowd. That's also why it's so dissapointing. It should be a lot better and it doesn't seem like they care to make it so. They have found their niche and the crowd comes anyway. So what if the service sucks... hey, they're cute! So what if the pasta is over-cooked and bland... what a great atmosphere! So what if you are paying premium prices to be ignored... the weather is awesome tonight! It's funny how they ignore you when they are waiting on you and then dissapear when you want to pay. Well... not really funny, just odd and annoying. Worth a check it out sometime, but you can do better.

Last week, I patroned Après Diem. I want you to know that I will not be returning.

I found the restaurant to be offensive.

The servers were over-sat and rude.

The appetizer came with 3 appetizer plates for a party of four.

I returned the dirty silverware, which I had to request, that was presented to me.

I had to request EVERY refill of wine and water I needed.

Lastly, there were two quarter sized chips of my entree dish broken of. One of my other guests also had chips broken as well. Unless I'm mistaken, these chips can harbor bacteria.

Overall, I would say the dining experience was the worst I've had in years.

I will admit that I do expect dining out to be pleasant and clean without exception.

The food was good, but not good enough to offset every other aspect of the experience.

I think Apres Diem is a great place to grab a bite, get a drink and chill with a friend or two. The food is so much better than regular bar food, showing a fair amount of quality and creativity, and the DJ spins some nice tunes that contribute to the relaxed vibe. Apres Diem is a great casual hangout.

i was so disappointed to come here after recently moving back to atlanta. a few years ago, this was an intimate, cozy place to bring a date or catch up with your girlfriends, but now it's just bustling, overcrowded and smoke-filled. i guess too many people found out about the area or something, but it's been completely ruined. this former urban oasis has become a real nightmare _ especially the parking.

I frequent this place a weekly and have noticed that the service has become sloppy lately. The once kind wait and bar staff now seem put out when asked to refill waters or clear tables. 20% tips are expected for barely 10% effort. I hope the staff turns over soon.

I live just across Monroe Dr. from Apres and frequent this spot on a semi-regular basis. It is a wonderful place to come alone and read (early in the day) or to go with a first date to "talk over coffee." I can see why others would have "bad experiences," but this is certainly a place you need to experience yourself in order to make an informed choice. I definately wouldn't ever let a few poor reviews keep me from findong out for myself. And on the off chance you do have a bad time- inform the management. The brunch is wonderful- the desserts are great, and the coffee is one of a kind! Try it out yourself, all you have to lose is a few bucks!

Basically, we had the worst service ever. I will say that the patio was full, but our waitress forgot everything, 2 or 3 times, and left a plate of mussels sitting on our table for 20 minutes after we were finished. She then proceeded to give us the wrong check with someone elses change inside. It then took her 10 minutes to correct the mistake! Carroll St Cafe, by the same owners, is a diamond in the rough; skip Apres Diem and head on over, much better service and a cozier more intimate atmosphere.

I want to say that Apres Diem has a great atmosphere for a romantic first date in Atlanta. The couches, good food, art, coffee, and Dj combined with the dim lighting are combined to produce great environment where people can connect. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to spend a romantic evening with a very resonable price.

Pros: Atmosphere

.

A few years ago this was a good place. Don't know what's happened since then, but when i went recently, it was bland food and not a good vibe. The owner seemed like a total jerk. Too bad.
