The Scene
Ferns, flickering gas lights and fountains adorn the patio; inside is more like a tavern, with dark wood and framed newspaper clippings that reinforce the restaurant's theme. The expansive patio is the big draw, especially after work and late night. Midweek, the crowd is a mix of loosened ties and little-black-dress dates, while weekends draw the work hard, play harder crowd.

The Draw
People come here for the cocktails and hearty Cajun-style fare. A make-your-own-bloody-mary bar beckons weekend revelers with an enormous array of hot sauces, spices, olives and mixers. While drinks are flowing freely, you can fill your belly on generous portions of po'boys, fried appetizers, seafood gumbo, burgers and crab cakes. Sunday brunch is also popular with omelettes and heaping sides like andouille sausage, bacon and grits.

Key Points

  • Patio Dining
  • New Orleans Style
  • Sunday Brunch

The Inside Scoop

  1. The Extras - Front Page News boasts more than 200 hot sauces. Don't see your favorite? Tell the staff and it'll be added to the wall.
  2. What to Drink - Try the Blanche martini. Made with Smirnoff Apple, Stoli Vanil, Apple Pucker, ButterShots and Razzmatazz, it's sure to bring back your Southern drawl.
  3. When to Go - The weekend build-your-own-bloody-mary bar is legendary. But feel free to sleep in on Sunday since local law prohibits alcohol sales until noon.

Love the Burgers at FPN!!!

by Jennifer T.

I go here at least once a week for a cheese burger and fries and often bring friends along who are now also FPN burger junkies. The burgers are reasonably priced, handmade and I love the freshly grilled taste. The atmosphere at this location is laid back and friendly. They have great patio and outdoor bar area along with an upstairs restaurant and bar. Try it out!!

Great way to spend an afternoon

by Sandy M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 6,209

FPN as it's known to the Midtown crowd is a great spot. The outside patio is quaint and the food is great! Try the buffalo chips, you'll be impressed. Food is reasonably priced and they make a good drink. And their bloody mary bar on Sunday is impressive!

Great atmosphere

by Tyler M. | insider Insider | Rank: 16,031

Front Page News is part of the bar scene in Midtown. Located not far from MARTA, it's fairly easy to get to and from. This location sports two bars, upstairs and down as well as a patio seating area where on a cool night is a great place to catch up with some old friends.

We love to got to Front Page News on a Friday or Saturday night for their upscale bar type food. The chicken sandwiches are very tasty along with their french fries. We also love the live music that they have onthe weekends. The band will play great recent cover songs!

Great Brunch

by folyanb

When you think of brunch in atlanta you should think Front page. The deck is great and sunny. Even in bad weather the covered deck is available so outdoor eating never seems to be a problem. Waits can be long after 1pm so come early. We like the Eggs Sardo and the Cheese steak omlet which includes an entire New York strip steak inside it. Also great for dinner on weekdays, fair prices, but not cheap $8.00-20.00, Food is almost always better than expected and the servers are relaxed and nice.

Pros: Great food, atmosphere, music

Cons: Parking is $5.00 unless you park on street

10 years and still on our list!

by MrAbato

We have been coming here for over 10 years and it gets better all the time. Heated patio. Big screen TVs. New menu that kept all out old favorties. I can see myself hanging a Front Page in 20 years! You may love most of the menu but when you are "having more than one" you must try the corn dog nuggets, old school amusement park food at its best. Stay away from the Onion rings, not that great. Tops in Midtown before a club or after a show!

Great for Brunch

by PJ79

I have to say my friend and I have eatten at Front Page a dozen or so times for lunch and Sunday Brunch. The food and service was great each time. Love the band that plays on Sunday it truly makes me feel like I'm back home on the gulf. Others I have recommended the restuarant to also felt that it was really good.

Don't do it, you'll be sorry. The sevice is S-L-O-W and the food not fresh by the time it drags up to the table. The spicy things are too spicy and everything else is below average. To top it off, the pigeons fly aound you as you eat. Yum, yum, pigeon poo in my jumbalya!

Pros: No Thank You!

Cons: Everything

Food was terrible

by denospam

Just came from lunch at Front Page News. The food was terrible.

I ordered a burger and it was really bad. Tasted like it was a previously frozen pre-made patty - not good. This was the worst burger I've had in a long time. (The side of red beans and rice wasn't very good either, but not as bad as the burger.)

With so many better places to go for lunch, I won't go back to Front Page News - and suggest you think twice before going.

Pros: Validate parking in lot across the street ($2 charge)

Cons: Food was TERRIBLE. Worst buger I've had in a long time.

WARNING!! NOT REAL CAJUN FOOD!!! GO TO Pappadeaux!!!

by Cristyles

Front Page is not good and is over priced. I would bet that 80% of the people who left a good review have never had authentic cajun/creole food, and/or are allergic to spices, don't like salt, ordered a sandwich or hummus, or they just don't have refined taste buds. Oh but the environment is great...just go to sit, drink but don't eat.

I went to Front Page 01/29/08 and I ordered the Cajun Jambalaya Egg Rolls, Buffalo Shrimp BLT Wrap and a side of Red Beans & Rice. The Cajun Jambalaya Egg Rolls were not good. The Jambalaya inside was really what made them taste bad. The Buffalo Shrimp BLT Wrap was ok. The Red Beans & Rice were horrible. This is one of those places you go if your really drunk and you dont care what you eat OR if you want fake Cajun Food. My question to the restaurant is how do you mess up Jambalaya and/or Red Beans & Rice??? Sad. If you dont like authentic Cajun/Creole food, seasoning and simply good food, go here, you will feel right at home.

I recommend Pappadeaux, its the closest you're going to get to authentic Cajun/Creole food without going to Louisiana. Plus their prices are in the same range as over priced, nasty FrontPage. If you want to pay $13.00 for etouffee go to Pappadeaux PLEASE I BEG OF YOU!

Pros: Good eniviroment

Cons: Horrible food! Over priced!! Over priced horrible food!!

not cajun but still good

by lcjones887

I really enjoy going to Front Page News. I would say it's not even close to being a cajun restaurant though. The service is really bad, I've been there more then several times and have never gotten anything close to good service i.e. always have to wait for refils and once you get your food the server never comes back to see if you need anything else. but I really enjoy the brunch on the weekend and they have good burgers.

A taste of New Orleans in Atlanta

by mparks

We recently tried Front Page News and found the food and atmosphere similar to many of our fav spots in New Orleans. The seafood gumbo was authentic and the bread on the shrimp poor boy was perfect. The bread pudding was as good or better than any we have eaten in the French Quarter. We tried the crab cakes and found them to be the best we have had anywhere. The muffuletta wasn't as good as those I have eaten at Franks or Central Grocery or Napoleon's...while the bread was authentic the olive salad wasn't even close and the layer of meats and cheese was way too thin. But otherwise we really enjoyed this place and will return many times.

Pros: Atmosphere, food quality and price, service, decent beer selection

Cons: smoking downstairs is allowed and parking costs $5 in garage across the street or free if you can find a meter space out front after 6pm

Great Casual Dining Spot

by grannele

We stopped by last night for dinner.. We were seated on the patio, next to a fountain. great atmosphere. our server was very attentive and got food and drinks out to us quickly, checking up to make sure things were going well for us. My boyfriend and I both got burgers and were pleasantly surprised to find they were not overcooked! Very delicious.

Pros: free parking, outdoor seating, great service

Cons: music from the bar next door

good food and a cool place for cocktails

by momanism

I should go in the winter. I always go during warm weather to enjoy the patio. I love the menu and the drinks are always good. Whenever I'm in need of cajun/ Louisiana food I go here. The patio is the coolest place and they stay open late. It's always a good place to take a first date or do some after work drinking.

If you are looking for a relaxing, friendly atmosphere than you owe it to yourself to visit Front Page News in Midtown. She has been there for years and attracts quite a following. So go out and see for yourself why Front Page News is the place to be in Midtown. Great service, drinks, food, and music.

Pros: Erin, Outdoor Patio, Music

Best Birthday ever!

by leahmcc311

I arranged for a group of 20 college kids to come here for my boyfriend's birthday--40 showed up, and the staff was very helpful, moving tables around and getting people silverware. The service was consistent for each table, so we all got done around the same time, and the food and drinks were excellent! I was very impressed that we were served quickly--in about 15 minutes, as there was such a large group. I really enjoyed my salad with the restaurant's home made dressing, and my boyfriend loved the gumbo. A few other people were not very impressed with their food, but everyone loved the atmosphere!

Combine great cajun food with a beautiful garden patio dining area and you've got one of the best dining spots in Midtown. The food is excellent, the prices reasonable, and the ambience (especially outside) is great. FPN is one of the best cajun restaurants in the city.

Pros: Great food and outdoor dining

People Watching In Paradise!

by jaymaygm

And why does Front Page News keep winning the best of CitySearch Patio, go once and you will find out. Katrina did not touch down here, but the New Orleans vibe did. Start your weekend brunch with the Best Bloody Mary Bar this side of NO. All the fixin's. After I make mine, all my friends want to know if I still need to order Brunch!

And yes Brunch! Tasty omelettes, Jambalaya, Red Beans & Rice. All the comfort foods of the Crescent City without the airfare.

And just the best people watching patio in the ATL. The diversity of the customers are what makes this city the crown jewel of the South! Katrina, take that!

Pros: New Orleans Patio Brunch, Great People Watching!

Cons: Parking could be a problem, if driving!

A taste of Jazz fest

by jalena34

We just returned from Jazz Fest in NOLA and luckily the party continues in Atlanta.
Had a party of five and had a wonderful time and dinner... in fact, too much food but that is the Nawlins way. One of our guests was from N.O. and even he said it was the real deal!
Best bets from our table: Tasty Red Beans and Rice, Rich Jambalaya, big chunks of veggies, chicken and sausage and just a hint of tomato, ettoufee, with a bit too much rice and our favorite the jumbo Thibadeaux shrimp. Altogether... a great experience.

Pros: Jambalaya, Gumbo, Thib. Shrimp

Cons: Parking $

Cajun/Creole Has Gone Downhill

by bunnyfeet

I go here about once a year. Previous visits have been great, but on a recent visit the food was poor. The Thibodeaux Shrimp, usually large and succulent, were overcooked and dry, and the horseradish was nonevident. The red beans and rice, usually very flavorful, was disappointing, with flavorless beans and an overdose of green onion garnish. The jambalaya was very heavy on the tomato flavor, tasting more like tomato paste and rice. Overall, a disappointing visit to what has traditionally been a great place to enjoy Cajun and Creole staples.

Pros: atmosphere, patio, drink menu

Cons: food quality, waitstaff

Better with age

I've been coming here since they opened before the olympics in 96 and this place gets better ever year. The newly remodeled patio bar & dining room make the place look new. The new menu is a nice mix of bar food and more upscale items and daily specials and soups can be winners too . The best bartenders in Midtown work here, tip well once and they'll never forget to take care of you. want to watch sports hang out with Larry at the patio bar.

Pros: Larry, Patio Bar, View

Grew up in NOLA, dine here now

by andabe123

I grew up in New Orleans, uptown and when I miss it and can't face the 8 hour drive I head for Front Page News. The atmosphere is right on, a cross between an Uptown bar and a french quesrter patio. The food is consistantly good, and the New Orleans dishes are authentic not the tabasco covered mess most local restaurants pass off as Bayou food. Atlanta's BEST seafood gumbo and grat Ettoufee are classics but the down and dirty food like the burgers do it for me too. Don't miss the build your bloody mary bar on weekends, a great hangover cure. Both locations are good but I go for weekend drinking on Crescent Ave. and weekdays and Sunday brunch we head for Moreland Ave cause its rommier and parking is much easier and free.

Pros: NOLA style, Seafood Gumbo

Cons: Parking in Midtown, Hurricanes

by rachvalley

LOVE FPN MIDTOWN for food and drinks on an off-night. The menu is great, my only negative is that I have so many favorites, I rarely try anything new. There is jambalaya, old school NOLA chow, good blackened chicken salad with about a pound of chicken, delicious gumbo, inventive pasta dishes, yummy aps, etc. Wine list is short but decent, and quite inexpensive. Martinis and special drink list is fun and reasonably priced. It is a little too much of a scene on fri/sat, as a line develops out front by 10pm, but the rest of the week it is not crowded. Perfect neighborhood locale for casual dinner and drinks!

Pros: Cute waiters, Staff, Deror In & Out

Cons: Parking $7-10

Hottest all-Around Spot in Atlanta

by pineshandi

ost places have either a good restaurant or a good night life. This Place definitely has more a ton of both. I have a blast everytime I come in but have noticed changes for the better recently. Food is awesome and you get alittle of everything that Atlanta's nightlife has to offer, great music, great bands, great drinks and great atmosphere. I have tried both ways and I recommend getting a table, Much better experience if your out with friends or trying to make an impression. I hate waiting in line at the bar so its the only way to beat it. I heard they hired a new manager so maybe thats why service has been better and they just remoded..who knows but I CANT wait to see whats next!!

Make the Trip To Midtown

by ronniehansell

I read some of the mixed reviews and must admit that I was a little apprehensive about going here, especially with my girlfriend, but tried it anyways. I can honestly say those who gave Front Page a poor review must have been on something or were just in a bad mood. Of course, they just might be idiots, but that's ok.

The food was good. The entire menu is worth a try. Our server was great, the music was just right, the liquor was perfect...it was a great evening and great date. I would recommend this to any couple. Definetely a winner .

Pros: Excellent patio, Round booths, Great service

Great Music!

by nursemeems

This is a great bar atmosphere and the food was pretty good! The best part of the restaurant is the outside dining. Even though it was almost 90 degrees today, the outdoor fans provided much needed relief from the sun and heat. I was HIGHLY impressed by the live music--jazz, classic soul, 80's mix. The band was great! Perfect for a relaxed Sunday afternoon brunch. Coulda stayed all day!

Pros: live band, outdoor seating, mixed crowd

Cons: decent service, restrooms

Extra, Extra! This Place is Crap

Unfortunately, despite have a beautiful location in Midtown, Front Page News never fails to disappoint with its mediocre food and poor service. I've given this place more than it's fair share of chances and everytime I come away disheartened. The salads have too much dressing, the sandwiches are dry, and last time I was nearly accosted by the manager for questioning why my meal was taking so long. If you're going to Crescent St., spend a little more and get have a good meal and a good time at Vickery's or South City.

I LOVE Front Page News. The service is always excellent...even on a crowded Friday night, you can ususally get a table fairly quickly. The staff is always freindly and courteous. The food is good and relatively inexpensive. The Sunday brunch is the greatest - no one can beat the Bloody Mary bar with all the different types of mixes and hot sauces. And the music is always good...on Sunday mornings, you almost forget you're in Atlanta and believe you could just be right off of Canal Street.
