It's exactly what you expect, fast food Fazoli version of Asian noodles. We got the spicy basil noodles and it was spicy, but flavorless. The Thai Basil rolls were pretty good though. Wouldn't come back here, but is a good way to get

I have been going to Doc Chey's for years and I absolutely love, love, LOVE the Chicken Massaman! I also love all their tasty appetizers - especially the edamame and shrimp rolls. I always experience GREAT service and the food quality is excellent. I wish that they would open one in the Brookhaven area, but my waist line would probably suffer because I would eat there all the time!

I??m not sure how we got to this place, but I'm glad we did. I had a very great dining experience at Doc Chey's. The food was excellently prepared and the quality of the food also reflects the type of service they provided. Everything was awesome.

Dear Doc Chey's Pad Thai with Chicken,

I love you. I love you so much. I don't know what I'd do without you. Whenever I am in the mood for Americanized Asian food, which happens quite often, I must have you. You are so good. And I'm sure you're friends are good too, like Japanese Teriyaki Udon or Spicy Szechuan stir-fry. In fact, everytime I come to see you I look at the menu, and I think to myself, "Self, maybe you should try something different this time." But then Self is all like "Screw that. I'll have the pad thai." Self always wins. So I just wanted to let you know that you are delicious and I don't know what I'd do without you.

Love,
Adam

Pros: cheap eats, generous portions

Cons: nothing comes to mind

One of my favorites since college, good food at good prices. I especially like their udon noodle bowl and their eggplant dishes, though their pad thai is pretty good too.

Doc Chey's is a great option if you want something asian but nothing specific. They have a lot of fusiony things and it is always good. They also make a great chicken noodle soup that is fabulous when you aren't feeling great.

This is one of my favorite places. Big bowls of noodle and rice dishes! Absolutely yummy. Prices are low. The edamame appetizer is pretty good. They also do a lot of takeout business. Con: At this location, they have long tables that you sometimes share with strangers (if you sit inside). I'm not really a people person so I usually sit on the patio.

Doc Chey's is a great place to go if you are looking to sit on the patio eating noodles. The restaurant is family friendly so there are always kids sitting outside on the patio with parents who look grateful to have a place to go to.

I went to lunch yesterday (10-6-08) because of the reviews here. This is mediocre food(at best)...not a place for 5 stars...I am not talking about fine dining 5 stars....I am talking about what they do, their specialty is just alright. I had the special Kung Pao...no real flavor except HOT! Kung Pao is a really flavorful dish so I was surprised. I added soy sauce to make it taste like something. My friend had Red Thai curry....I tasted it. It was alright, nothing to write home about. They were very very skimpy with their portions...tons of noodles and rice but not lots of other stuff. We are talking about vegetables here. Not a high food cost and merely a smattering of them. and then to add $1 for chicken and I had maybe 1-1.5 oz is ridiculous. They are making a lot of money on these $10 lunches that fill people up with cheap starch. I think the reason everything has a hot pepper next to it on the menu is so that they can burn out your taste buds so you don't realize you are getting nothing for your lunch dollar. I won't be back.

Cons: Just about everything else

Great food. Their noodle bowls are *huge* and very tasty. I usually end up either splitting a bowl or making multiple meals out of the left-overs! Their lettuce wrap appetizers are absolutely amazing. I?d get those for my whole meal if the rest of their food wasn?t better! They?ve also got some sort of teriyaki seared green beans that we get quite often which are great as well! I?ve been getting the Chey?s Imperial salad which is very yummy, however, I?ve tried their other salads and wasn?t as impressed. I?ve never had a problem with service there, and I really like their patio. Indoor seating may not be ideal for those who are iffy about sitting near strangers ? they?ve got long picnic style tables, so while you won?t be knocking elbows with your new neighbor, you may be sitting closer to them than you would at a restaurant with completely separate tables. I?ve tried a bit of their sake and haven?t ever been too impressed ? go else where for the sake, but stick here for some great food!

Doc Chey's isn't your typical boring mom-n-pop Chinese restaurant. No, no...Doc Chey's is MUCH better than that (and healthier too!). This is the place where I always bring out-of-town friends. Doc Chey's is pan-Asian, so they serve noodles, stirfries and dim sum inspired by mutliple Asian countries. The oversized noodle bowls are what they do best, but I've grown to adore the dim sum menu too (try the Shanghai dumplings!). Dim Sum is around $4 a plate, and entrees are $6-$8, which is a great deal for the portions and quality. They're starting to use more and more organic items too, which is amazing at these prices. This is the orgianal (and best) location, which opened 10 years ago. They're always winning "Best of Atlanta" awards year after year (best pan-asian, best chinese, best cheap eats, etc.), and they have quite the portfolio on their website to prove it. Try one of the green teas from the Tea Bar.

Food was typically American-pleasing fare. Very unauthentic Asian food. I would rather get served by an insect ridden Chinese restaurant hole in the wall. At least there they wouldn't pretend to be making something authentic.

Used to be, this is one of my favorite restaurants. They keep changing their recipes, but not always for the better. They only have deep fried tofu, not good. They do not grill chicken for their dishes anymore, instead the chicken has coating= more fat. Too bad. I hope they change back. Why change when things are good the way it is??? All together, still goood place to eat, but great anymore. :- (

Food was satisfactory, but don't waste your money on the teas. I ordered a veggie noodle dish which was low on veggies but very generous with the noodles. The entrees overall appeared to be served in large portions.

The food is good, fresh and simple. The portions are generous to your stomach and wallet. The patio is great in the spring and fall. It can be a little loud at times but the atmosphere is fun and relaxed. The wait staff and hostess are apathetic at times but sometimes you luck out on their good day.

Ok, so Doc Shey's may not be the most authetic Thai dining experience in town, but where you can eat good food for under $10 a person?! This place is adroable. They have a great patio area to sit on too.

I was stunned to learn that this place has made one of the top 10 Citysearch Vote. Not to mention, in Thai food category?!!??? C'mon guys, if anyone has ever had authentic Thai food before in his/her life, he/she would never go to this place and rank it as such. I couldn't care less if it was voted one of the best whatever food, but please, not Thai.

I've been coming to Doc Chey's for years. I was quite disappointed when the franchise near me closed, so my husband and I ventured back to the Highlands to the original. Our meal did not disappoint. Doc Chey's is not gourmet food, but it has always been very good. We started with the edamame, our traditional appetizer. It was good, but the soybeans were a bit too soft. They were not as snappy as usual. I had the Chinese Lo Mein with steamed tofu, which was quite good. The sauce has always been one of my favorites. My husband had a tofu and rice dish that he enjoyed. The service was adequate for a casual dining restaurant, and drinks were always refilled promptly. We sat on the patio and enjoyed an usual cool July evening. The prices are still very low for the quantity of food served.

We ordered noodles and chicken dishes, spring rolls. It appeared that the ingredients were dumped in sauce and heated for a minute because the taste of sauce was not integrated into the meat or vegetables. Also, the sauces taste like the ones that you get at a grocery store, which is why i feel that the food lacks authenticity.

To the person who complained he couldn't taste the food, where did you lose your tongue? I am 70% taste impaired (no joke) and the main reason I learned to like Thai food was because I can register the taste of the spices in a way not possible with American food. I have stuck with Doc Cheys at least 85% of the time as my Thai restaurant of choice. Why? The food is always fresh, the seasoning is always balanced, and the portions are always a great value for your $$. And to the person who said he didn't get value for his $$, my only comment is: Where are you eating out? Everyone would love to know where you're getting a better value. I'll admit that The Tamarind is the BEST Thai restaurant in the city, but you'll be paying x3 the price there. Take your pick.

I agree with the person who said Doc Cheys is not cheap. They charge about 7 or 8 bucks for something that cost about $1.50 to make, if that. The portions are not that generous; not like the noodle soup houses on Buford Highway. And the quality is not good at all. For Virginia Highland, getting any sort of meal for under 10 bucks is rare, and I guess thats the only good thing about Doc Chey's. But to call this authentic asian style noodle bowls is a misrepresentation in the grandest sense.

Doc Chey's costs about as much as most noodle houses and Asian food restaurants. Sure, they knock a dollar off with their cafeteria style dining, but realistically, the food quality is poor and the piddling amount saved isn't worth it.
Thye're only on here because they strive for college age people and put up the front that they are somehow less expensive. All I have to say is $5 for 2 eggrolls. Bamboo Luau is cheaper and has better food and hours.

Maybe I just keep ordering the wrong thing, but the food here kind of sucks. The food is cheap though, under 6 dollars. Not a good date place.

It is like eating at a friends home- comfortable atmosphere.
Large portions, always good food.
I am addicted to the basil rolls and shrimp rolls.
Cheap, a place we frequent.

A neighorhood jewell that has everything you could want, for a relaxed, scrumptious meal! The atmosphere is laid-back and the food is obviously well prepared. The char-grilled chicken used in making many of the dishes is homemade delicious. Lots of vegetarian choices. The bright, colorful, fresh vegetables make each plate an appetizing adventure. Move over eggplant parmigan. You haven't had eggplant until you've tried the eggplant in garlc sauce at Doc Chey's. Bravo! I'll be back!

Doc Chey's is ideal when one craves something tasty;prefers healthy, ethnic food; has little time; and emulates Clark Howard's financial management practices.
