The Scene
The decor makes plenty of references to the Big Easy, adding in minimal nautical gear such as the low, heavy-beamed ceilings, gas lamps and dark wood. It's all capped off by a roaring, appreciative suburban crowd.

The Food
It's the Big Easy made easy with lots of fried and blackened foods. The fried seafood is the safest bet, followed closely by the catch of the day and the different boiled specialties. Pappadeaux's mild exotica comes in the form of gator tail and whole boiled crayfish. The Cajun specials often disappoint. The massive portions, long on spice and flavor, are made for a doggy bag. Peg your expectations no lower than Red Lobster but not quite as high as the Atlanta Fish Market.

The Inside Scoop

  1. Know Before You Go - Pappadeaux assesses a service charge on its to-go menu "in order to ensure that our food quality is the same at home as when you dine with us."

You've Got To Go!

by Josette H. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 549

This restaurant specializes in seafood. You can order anything from a big, juicy burger, right down to crabs or alligator! The food is delicious. Every time I've gone, the staff has been very helpful, and accommodating. Their prices are reasonable (average meal under $20). Highly recommended!!

One of my favorite seafood restaraunts in the area

by Bananas2531

I love seafood, so when my fiance took me here to eat I was really excited to try their food. Each time I go I'm very pleased with their dishes. They have a wonderful variety to choose from, and it tastes delicious. They are a little pricey for out budget so it ends up being an occasional treat. However, if you take someone that doesn't necessarily like seafood it gets ridiculously expensive (they only sell expensive cuts of red meat). Nonetheless I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys seafood.

Pros: Food is delicious, lots of variety

Cons: A little pricey

Awesome food!

by cwangpharmd

I love this restaurant. I've been to the other 2 pappadeaux restaurants and this is bar-none the best in atlanta. Order the crawfish trio, it's not on the menu, but it's great! Three different flavors of crawfish on one plate, what's not to love?

I get the grouper alexander and it never disappoints. When my friends and family ask where to go on my birthday, I always say pappadeaux! The service has always been spot on. While the prices are not cheap, it is very reasonable for the quality and amount of food you receive. Looking for great seafood with unique flavors? Pappadeaux is the answer!

Now I'm all hungry...

Pros: Fresh seafood and awesome flavors

Cons: Kinda expensive, but reasonable

Great Portions, Good Food (although NOT the Boudin), HORRIBLE SERVICE

by jamif823

My sister and brother in law came to visit and since he is a Cajun, we decided to give Pappadeaux a try. When we arrived at 5:33 pm on Sunday 2/22/09 we were told a 30 to 40 min wait (as unless you have 6 or more in your party you can't make a reservation). This was not a big deal. So the Hostess was correct, at 6:03 pm we were seated. Now is where the problem began. Our service was horrible. The waitress came to the table about 5 min or so after were seated, we then ordered our drinks and waited another 5-7 min to get them. She then came to the table to take our order. I ordered the Crawfish Platter with a cup of Crawfish Bisque. My sister ordered Boudin and crab cakes. When the food arrived....1 HOUR AFTER we ordered, my Bisque was never delivered, the Boudin that my sister ordered left a nasty after taste and wasn't fully cooked. The waitress never came back to see if we were ok, or needed anything or to make sure our food was correct. As we sat there eating, we drank all of our beverages and had to stop a busboy (not sure if that is now the correct term) to see about getting refills. He refilled the sweet teas (I had unsweet) and then got called to other duties (which this wasn't his job so that was fine), however, our waitress took another 5 min or so to get there to see that I needed a refill. At this point she finally asked about the food, which we sent back the Boudin and got boxes for the rest. She came back to the table to declare that she had to wait for the Mgr to remove the Boudin from the check. She finally came back with the check and we paid and left. The food itself was fantastic (other than the Boudin). Total time for this meal (wait to be seated, wait for food, eating, wait for check) was over 2 hours. Do NOT go if you don't have time to burn.

Pros: Taste, Food, Selection,

Cons: Wait time for being served, Service itself,

not too big fan of cajun

by lalababy

Pappadeaux is a Cajun seafood restaurant. Hearing about the place for so long I finally got to go. I had alligator for the first time and it was good and tender. Almost like chicken! The food here is a bit on the spicy side. I liked the place but I don't think it was a the place for me. I recommend it for anyone who enjoys Cajun seafood. Oh and the prices are decent for their portions/seafood.

Pros: 3 locations

Excellent Food, Stellar Service, Huge Parking lot

by deevah678

I went to Pappadeaux for a business lunch. While the restaurant was extremely busy, it was relatively easy to find parking in the large parking lot and we were seated promptly. The crawfish etouffee was incredible and our server was top notch. My colleagues also loved their dishes. Our server was very busy, but very attentive and friendly. I love this place! This is an incredible restaurant to take out of town guests. Everyone should experience the wonderful food and service at Pappdeaux.

Pros: Excellent Food, Stellar Service, Huge Parking Lot

Cons: No complaints

I love the Fondue!!!

by nikkijj

There is a wait if you go at night, but the fondue and pasta Mardi Gras is so worth it! They have huge servings and I always have to take some home (the pasta is so good the next day). The staff is friendly and I always have a great time whenever I am there.

Pros: The Pasta Mardi Gras

Cons: The wait

We love Pappadeaux!

by terikitty1

Our entire family loves Pappadeaux! We live in California and we don't have a Pappadeaux (please, please come to Southern California, Pappadeaux!), but fortunately, we have friends in Atlanta, Denver, and Chicago! We have eaten Pappadeaux in four different states so far! The crawfish bisque is delicious! Yes, it is a chain restaurant, but we always have wonderful meals there, no matter which one we are in! I have also eaten real Cajun food in Louisiana, and even though it was good, Pappadeaux is just as good, if not better. It does get busy, so plan on either a very early or very late dinner. Great bar atmosphere, too. I have just booked my next trip to Atlanta, and we're going straight to Pappadeaux as soon as we get off the plane!

Pros: Great food and service!

Cons: Can be very busy.

I'd rather eat at Captain D's

by corndotz1

I will never understand the appeal of this place. My husband and I went to Pappadeaux for lunch and the greeter, hostess and waitress all asked over the noise of the restaurant "Have you been here before?" When we answered "no," we were advised that the food is rather spicy. Okay. We love spicy. I ordered a blackened salmon special (covered with a cheese sauce, scallops and crawfish) and my husband ordered the fried catfish plate. We also ordered a shrimp cocktail appetizer. We both had iced tea. The shrimp cocktail was okay. The quality of the shrimp was excellent, but there was no spice or flavor. My salmon dish sounded so delicious that I was excited to try it. It was tastless and completely bland. My husband's catfish was gorgeous, but it also had no flavor and was WAY too greasy. Where is that spice????? Our bill totalled $60, $70 with tip. We could have eaten at Captain D's eight times for that amount and I would have enjoyed the food more. The fish is certainly less greasy and has more flavor. In my opinion, this is an overly hyped, suburbanite restaurant that appeals to people who have nothing better to do than wait in a line for an hour for mediocre and expensive food. After a couple of attempts to eat at Pappadeaux for dinner, we went at 2:00 p.m. on a Saturday and had no wait. Atlanta has so many privately owned restaurants that serve unusual and delicious food. Even Popeye's or Bojangles has much spicier food than Pappadeaux. I agree with another reviewer that the Atlanta Fish Market has much better food. The ambiance is more romantic, quiet and upscale and the food is a thousand times better. I do want to commend our waitress at Pappadeaux. She was very attentive and efficient. We'll never go back to Pappadeaux though. I think the key to Pappadeaux success is in the size of the food - BIG!

Pros: Service, quality of shrimp, good tea

Cons: No flavor, loud, greasy

Good enough to wait for...

by marctw72

The food is excellent, but the wait more oft than not, is quite lengthy. I have gone in parties of 2 or3 as well as parties of 8+. In both cases, I was required to be patient awaiting availability. In the absence of reservations, you are at the mercy of chance. If you are already starved, you may not want to endure the wait.

The food is great, once you get to it.

I agree Fondue is excellent

by donnarenee

As a true Creole for South Louisiana I would give the Fondue at Pappadeaux a 10. Fried Seafood is great to. The more traditional Creole dishes are less Louisiana but here in Atlanta this is the closest one would get to Creole/Cajun cooking.

Great Fondue

by asmoore2

If you go on Friday or Saturday night expect to wait an average of an hour. And no, they don't take reservations. If you don't feel like waiting then go before 6pm. As for the food, try the fondue. It's the best I've had. The appetizers are actually better than the entrees. Either way you'll leave full.

Pros: friendly staff, good food, good drink selection

Cons: crowded, long wait time

Good Cajun for a Chain Type Restaurant

by maitianci

A bit Hollywood in atmosphere, the food is very good. Tuna was tasty, but not sashimi grade, as they had advised. All in all a good spot for afordable flavorful seafood.

Pros: Food, Service

Generic

by tommycat1

I've long since determined that, in order to get real cajun cooking, I need to get a little closer to Louisiana than Atlanta. The food here is very generic. If you enjoy fried food, then you will be fine.

Not Worth The Money and Wait

by aidarita

Extremely expensive, the food and drinks are not great. I would rather go to the Atlanta Fish Market, much better choice. I do not understand what the hype is all about.

Pros: free parking, large restaurant

Cons: expensive, weak drinks, bad food
