Beautiful Museum with a wide variety of art pieces. The museum is located in an area that is difficult to find parking. Great place to go when they have Fulton County free days.

I was expecting a larger, more varied collection given that Atlanta is a beta-class world city, certainly much larger and wealthier than Norfolk or Richmond which do have reputable fine art museums.

The Museum does bring in interesting exhibits, but between these exhibitions the Museum is underwhelming and shallow.

I asked several staff members questions and they were at a loss to respond. This would have been okay if admission had been $5.00 or so... but the price was $18.00.... so I was expecting a lot at that price and was disappointed.

Right now, I would call the Museum more of a fine arts center with great potential for growth. I was surprised that such an important city as Atlanta has a third rate museum.

If I lived in Atlanta, I would join and support the Museum. Atlanta and the Museum need a better class museum given the city's importance in our nation.

Pros: Brings in outside exhibits

Cons: local collection is weak

Built in the 80s as an architectural work of art itself, the High maintains a fresh, modern structure that has been considerably stepping up its game. Bringing in collections from the Louvre, works from Di Vinci, Monet, and all the other big boys along with local artists making a splash, the High is a wonderful place to cash in on once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to engage in history and art. With events such as jazz and martini nights, the High is custom tailoring its approach to the modern day clientele. Perhaps the best exhibit I have witnessed was the civil rights photography exhibit - which is what the High excels in: relevance, history, and geography.

Cons: Parking is a little tricky

Being a native Atlantan, it is nice to see such a great
representation of our cultural growth over the years!
The High is an Art Piece in itself and has great
exhibits that my whole family can enjoy!

I purchased the student ticket to the museum for 15$, not a bad price but not a good discount either. The ticket person told me that i could see all of the exhibits. I walked through one wing of the museum and on the 3rd floor i was not allowed into a "members only" area. Ok, no big deal. I finished viewing that wing and tried to move on to the next. I wasn't even allowed into the next wing!!! Again members only! What did i pay for? I was so disgusted that i left without even attempting the 3rd wing. There are no signs that i saw stating that certain areas are members only, or signs at the ticket counter stating that whole collections would not be accessible with a regular student ticket. It was embarrassing to walk through a revolving door and be told by a staff member that you aren't allowed in and must go back out immediately. I felt deceived and cheated.

There is so much to view and learn. It is worth buying the membership. The exhibits from the Lourve were exceptional. The featured artists from their genres are great. It is amazing to veiw others interpretation of art and The High does an excellent job of presenting that.

As a long standing member of the High Museum, I'm totally blown away by the current exibit, on loan from The Louve. All the great masters are here, many have not been moved out of Paris in hundreds of years. The current expansion, and the new Anne Cox Chambers Wing, is more than outstanding. We are now a world class desination for the Arts! Bravo! Atlanta!

Cons: Parking Can Be Tricky, If Driving!

The price is very reasonable with all it has to offer. There is always a versatile selection of art to see. Sometimes you love it, sometimes the pieces make you question what art really is. If you become a member you can get in free to see the museum and it is free for kids under six which can make an inexpensive afternoon out, especially if you pack a picnic lunch.

This is one of Richard Meir's premiere works, and with the new Renzo Piano addition, it is a truely nice piece of architecture. The collections are nice and they typically have a really neat visiting collection. I also recommended doing "Jazz at the High" which is on Friday nights.

I have loved the High since took field trips there as a child. It has expanded and matured well much like the rest of Atlanta. I look forward to the many new exhibits in the gallery. Friday Jazz at the High is also always a thrill. Where else can you combine art, music, good food, a scavanger hunt and meeting & greeting?

PROS: parking
CONS: Jazz at the High, great member benefits

The High Museum of Art in Atlanta is a great way to spend an afternoon in Atlanta. They have many interesting permanent exhibits, as well as limited engament exhibits. It does cost to get in, but you can become a friend of the museum to save money. I love the open, airy feeling of the building, and it is in a prime location for sight seers and people ready to spend a day in Atlanta.

The High Museum of Art is a beautiful art museum in downtown Atlanta. The building itself is very beautiful and makes for a good layout for the museum, as you can start at the top and then wander through the galleries, making your way to the lower level where you entered. On the ground level, there are some galleries for kids, so that they can get more of a hands on experience. The High has had many big traveling shows and they also have a good collection of their own art. There's a caf within the building too, should you need to stop and have a snack or get something to drink. The only drawback to the museum's downtown location is finding a place to park, since there isn't a parking lot specifically for the museum.

The High Museum of Art is definitely one of the top cultural attractions in Atlanta. Tickets run $10 for adult admission to the permanent collection which has an impressive collection of European and American artwork. I have also had the pleasure of attending some outstanding visiting shows such as the one for Van Gogh and Picasso. I think this is definitely one of the attractions that you don't want to miss. I have never walked away from an exhibition at the High disappointed.

This is a beautiful museum inside and out. The architecture is amazing. Their collection consists of Revolution, Civil War, and early to mid 1900s art, material, and equipment. The collections are beautiful and fun to see and read about. This is a great look into our history. This is truly a place that everyone in Atlanta should visit.

The High Museum has been an integral part of Atlanta for years, but too many people write it off as for the artsy among us. Newsflash: it's so much more than a museum! The High hosts several world-class exhibits throughout the year, and has a regular Friday Jazz on the first Friday of every month. There are art workshops for kids, teens, and adults during the month (those require registration) and many other activities that you can get involved in. It's not just about looking at a painting on the wall: it's about getting involved with art and enjoying it. Recorded commentaries are available with most exhibits so you can hear the experts' take on a work while you make your opinion about it. Don't miss the children's part of the museum in the basement - sized just for little ones! Parking is plentiful in the deck immediately behind the building or you can park across the street.

The exhibits are nice, the building is great, but I found the staff unhelpful and often poorly informed. I received permission at the front desk to photograph part of a special exhibit, but moments later was asked to leave because I took a photo of an Egyptian artifact. When asking questions of the staff, they were often unable to answer questions.

For a city not known for its culture, this is an incredible museum. It impresses in local art and international classical art. I had never joined a museum (or anything like it) before and was convinced that my money would be well spent at the High. For my membership I get some free passes and a few other trinkets. The passes alone are worth it. Just to be able to get in on days and times that the crowds are not (and during some big events the public does flock) is worth it.

Check for student discounts and coupons, they are everywhere.

Much of the collection doesn't live up to the innovative design of building, but the High is a relatively young museum and still growing. Many of the recent blockbuster exhibits have been of more populist artists but what museum doesn't do that these days. This museum is still a worthy stop for any tourist. If you live in Atlanta and attend a lot of exhibits, it's definitely a better deal to join the museum.

Atlanta has always struggled with its place in the national arts world, and, unfortunately, the High Museum can't quite compete with some of the nation's finest museums. The High does frequently bring in exhibits compelling to any city. The unique way of organizing its collection, by theme, not era or artist, takes some getting used to, but in the end, the arrangement offers enlightening takes on common artistic themes. A trip to the High is a definite stop for locals or out of towners interested in art.
