This Cabbagetown eclectic southwestern eatery is highly yum! I don't like beef in general but I love love love their chili hatch beef stew so much, I think I could eat it every day. It is a little spicy so be warned and enjoy. The staff

Cute environment, but boring food. The menu is a hodge podge. The margaritas have too much mixer in them and can burn a whole in your stomach. The pan seared tuna isn't cooked at all, not even seared. The steak however is pretty good.

My husband and I love going to Agave. My absolute favorite dish is the Chile Seared Jumbo Diver Sea Scallops - it is to die for - especially since I am a seafood lover. I would definitely recommend going, if you haven't visited this restaurant.

The food was SO GOOD! The menu is a bit of a bastard mix but that is what made it fun for us. Tequila shrimp is a must for anyone who likes shrimp - one of my all time favorites!

This is one of the only places in Atlanta that has such a wide variety of maragrita's. Seriously the best in town. The food is amazing and I am never disappointed. Try the Cayenne Fried Chicken for the Diablo. Great service. Awesome!

I went to a wine dinner here a few months ago with a group of about 8 people. The manager was very nice and went out of his way to make sure everyone was taken care of. The food was good but, overall, the experience dining her was not pleasant due the incredibly high decibel level. It was virtually impossible to converse with people across the table or even sitting right next to you! (The place has very high ceilings and concrete floors.) I will not go back there for that reason alone

This is my favorite place in Atlanta. The food is always fresh, flavorful and perfectly prepared. The servers are friendly and helpful and they coordinate closely with the chef to make sure that everything is perfect (the servers will even provide suggestions for the best drinks). Every meal I've had here has been wonderful.

Agave is a great place for dining alone, bringing a date or sharing a perfect meal with friends and family (hint - make reservations if you're bringing a crowd).

Go to Agave and have a wonderful night!

I've been going to Agave for going on 7 yrs. It's my fav place to go whether it's by myself (often) or on a date. The staff is always very knowledeable whether it's about the 100 different kinds of Tequila or their wide assortment of wines.
The restaurant uses the highest quality no hormone beef and chicken! No wonder it tastes sooo yummy.
And from what I know they don't use microwaves or freezers. Everything is fresh..
Do yourself a favor and go. Atlanta is lucky!

I've been going here for a couple of years and so far I've always really enjoyed it. This restaurant has a menu to suit a wide range of palettes and it's basically a short drive from about anywhere downtown so it's been a good spot to meet up with friends. My favorite appetizers are the ceviche martini and the chicken quesadilla, both of which are big enough to be a meal! I am also a huge fan of their fried chicken and the salmon filet.

Another recent review talked about smelling cigarette smoke which had me confused because Agave is a non-smoking restaurant. I have severe asthma and allergies and am highly bothered by the smell of cigarette smoke. I've eaten at Agave many times and sat at the bar, on the patio, in both dining rooms, and even up in the loft when my wife and I recently celebrated our anniversary. I've never smelled smoke in there ever.

As far as drinks, I'm not really a big tequila drinker but the huge selection of tequilas has enticed me to try a few of their margaritas and I've yet to be disappointed. Overall I'd definitely recommend this as a good meeting place before a game or event - just make sure you call ahead to let them know you're coming just in case there's a wait!

Food is delightful and the service is friendly and tip-top. That's the good. I came in on a friday night and was kindly greeted and sat quickly at a nice table (so I thought) upstairs. While I was eating, I saw the host go into what I think was the office and soon after I distinctly smelled heavy cigarette smoke coming from that door. Then he left to go back to the front door. It took a while for the smoke to subside, but my meal was already disturbed. Then the chef went in the same room upstairs and again the place stunk up with cigarette smoke through the whole upstairs area. We cut it short and left quickly after that due to our meal being completely ruined at that point. We even smelled the cigarettes downstairs near the kitchen when we were exiting. On our way out, we saw the tall thin girl who sat us talking to the bartender near the front door. I decided to ask the her who the host was and she said he was the manager partner. It surprised me that being in such a position he would brake the law and smoke with customers eating right next to his office. So, I pointed the other taller man out in the chef outfit and asked who he was. She said that he is the owner. I couldn't believe it, so I asked if they always smoke in that room upstairs. She shrugged a yes with no verbal comment, but the bartender rolled her eyes and answered, yes all the time. That says it all. Don't eat there if breathing cigarette smoke will ruin your meal like it did ours. What a shame with everything else being so enjoyable otherwise.

this is the absolute best place for escaping the banality of the dreary world. the atmosphere is laid back, comfortable and welcoming. the staff are genuinely sweet, attentive and they strive to ensure you have a wonderful experience.
i'm addicted to the white bean soup...it's "to die for" yummy.
all the food is fresh and prepared perfectly. i've never been disappointed. and, the servings are large (for me) so i always have left-overs for the next day. i've had left-over scallops and enchiladas for breakfast (yes, they are that good!).
it's also a great place to bring family, out of town guests or someone special.
this is my favorite restaurant!

I've been dining at Agave for 8 years, and it has consistently proven itself as one of my favorite places to eat anywhere. The food quality is outstanding and the service is always friendly and attentive. The ambiance adds to the enjoyment of the meal; the dark tones and southwestern artifacts adorning the walls complement the fireplace nicely in the second dining room. The main dining room and bar area is always full of energy and lively with a small loft area above the dining area for small private groups.

I eat there at least once/month on average, and have never been let down. If there is ever a problem with the food (which essentially never happens), they are more than accommodating with a replacement. I've seen them bend over backwards to serve guests, and it's always done with a smile.

Food selections range from their signature Agave Cayenne Fried Chicken (always a favorite for new patrons) to succulent Tenderloin Medallions and the hearty Pork Shank. Many of the dishes are quite spicy so it's a good idea to ask the server if you have any aversion to certain spices. Otherwise if you like your meals with a kick, you can't go wrong. Particularly noteworthy for their spicy flavors are the Green Chile Stew and also the Crawfish Pasta.

The Margaritas are some of the best you'll taste anywhere and are definitely my favorite in Atlanta. The Herradura Estate Top Shelf has been a mainstay for me the entire 8 years I've been dining there. Simply delicious. And for after dinner, there is an incredible selection of fine tequilas for sipping along with dessert. The Belgian Chocolate Mousse is my personal favorite, although the Spicy Peanut Butter Pie is a close second.

You really can't go wrong here. Definitely one of Atlanta's best!

I LOVE this place! The bar is beautiful, the staff is helpful and knowledgeable, the chef is brilliant and his creations are delicious!

For me, the best part of this time of year (when the weather cools down) is being able to indulge in the white bean soup with Navajo fry bread sticks (so yummy~) with a wonderful Corzo Perfecto margarita.

Okay - I know where I'm going for dinner tonight!

This lovely little restaurant has world-class cuisine at unmatched prices. The spices are layered with expert precision (though if you desire more heat, you have only to ask). The food is the freshest you will find anywhere. The tequila bar boasts an extensive and exceptional selection (with bartenders who know their products well).

My favorites are the spicy tequila shrimp and the chile seared halibut, though everything I've tried has been delicious. I haven't tried the vegetarian menu yet, but I intend to soon.

I love the "feel" of this place. It's so easy to set aside the pressures of the work day and relax here. The layout and the artwork are more than inviting.

Reservations are recommended and you can either call or set up a reservation online. Even so, I've dropped in and been seated timely.

One word of warning - though the chips and salsa are tasty, you'll regret filling up on them once your meal arrives.

My experiences at this restaurant have always been outstanding. I am consistently impressed by the food and the service. This is one of those rare places in which you feel the staff truly cares and will go out of their way to ensure that you have a wonderful night. It is a lost art in today's world and I'm truly grateful for their dedication and professionalism.

Every item I've had has been flavorful, fresh and completely satisfying (note - the portions are rather large so I always get dessert "to go" to enjoy later at home).

I'm truly addicted to the white bean soup. When I'm not feeling well, I actually dream about it (yes, it IS that great)! The seared tuna is wonderful, the scallops always perfectly prepared and I've never had seafood that tasted so fresh. The cayenne fried chicken and (this world's best) mashed potatoes is the ultimate comfort food and the grilled vegetable plate is the absolute best way to feel like you're eating healthy while indulging in decadence! The spices are masterfully blended so each bite has layers of flavor.

I would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone who enjoys incredible food and genuinely friendly service - it is the absolute BEST!

(you can't beat the prices either!)

After reading lots of wonderful reviews, I expected a great meal at Agave with lots of spice and flavor; I received neither. I ordered the tomato, avocado, and basil salad, and the "spicy ranch drizzle" tasted like watered down Hidden Valley ranch. The citrus vinaigrette was pretty flavorless. I expected more than 4 thin slices of avocado, too. For my entree, I ordered the appetizer portion of the Guajillo mussels, which were supposed to come in a "signature red chile citrus wine broth with fresh basil... and lime." Though the broth was red, it wasn't flavorful, and I did not taste any lime. I would not return.

Great southwestern menu. Food is always consistent, they cook everything fresh and from scratch and the value is great. My wife and I come here 3-4 times a month for dinner (so we've been there at least 30 times) and have yet to be disappointed. We even bring our family and friends here when they come in from out of town. You know how sometimes you rave about a restaurant and then bring someone there and it's terrible? That has never happened to us at Agave. I highly recommend this place. For an even better deal, head over to their website and look for the monthly specials before you go. Definitely try the alaskan halibut if you're in the mood for fish.

I have loved Agave for years. My fiance and I went on our first date here and keep going back for more. The food and margaritas are delicious. The atmosphere is romantic and fun. The food is very consistent, I have only had one meal here that I wasn't completely thrilled with in the 10+ times I have visited. That's not too shabby! Make sure you get a Peachtree Margarita. The short rib is delicious and that flourless chocolate torte is definitely worth it.

The best southwestern experience in Atlanta/southeast.... not sure which was better food or service....if Agave was closer it would be a weekly stop.......you won't find a better selection of tequilla's and no one compete's with the margarita's......if you have not been it's your loss... truly one of Atlanta's best.

In most cases, a Good or Poor review usually starts with the meal. However, from the moment my party entered Agave for dinner this past Friday night, the Host left a very bad taste on the pallet. We had reservations for 8:30pm, we arrived at 8:20. The Host greeted us, confirmed our reservation and asked us to wait. This was expected and acceptable. However, after several other parties arrived after us, a small crowd gathered at the entrance. Within minutes, the Host greeted some personal friends/family of his and IMMEDIATELY seated them. Those of us waiting to be seated, were very offended by this. Once we were seated, the waitstaff was very attentive. I can't remember the fancy menu name for the meal I ordered...but basically we paid $15 for a Fried Chicken breast, spoonful of Mashed Potatoes and Corn-on-the-Cob, which was heavily scorched. I thought I was the only person that was not pleased by the meal. However, while waiting on the Valet, another party also mentioned how unpleasant their visit was. They too, also noticed the Host seating his personal friends immediately, while asking others guests to wait. ....Just in case your wondering how we knew these were his personal friends/family...it's because I asked. He did not deny that fact that, Yes, he did give his friends/family personal preference. I can only hope that the Restaurant owner can depend on the personal friends/family of his Host staff to sustain his restaurant in the future, because that was our last visit to the Agave.

Good food, extensive tequila menu and first class waiters make this a spot to go to every now and again. The tequila bar is lengthy so if that's you're thing this is likely a good spot for you. The food is good, but a bit on the pricey side. Definitely a spot to hit every now and again, but not really a routine hang out.

Yum Yum Yummy I got Agave food in my tummy. Agave is alright with me....a fresh, fun, upscale southwestern menu, if you go in the Winter be sure to sit by the warm and cozy fireplace, it's a sure winner. My favorite dish, Pan Seared Chilean Salmon over a roasted red pepper sauce...to die for! The wait staff is very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. One of Atlanta's finest Southwestern restaurants.

?Pros: Best Service, Attentive Staff

Pros: Cozy fireplace, convenient, parking

As a local and a regular I would like to say that the food and service at Agave goes beyond all expectations.
The level of dedication and professionalism of everyone there continues to rank it as one of the best service experiences you'll find anywhere!!!
Don't miss the chance to stop by the bar where the bar-tendrixes will not only dazzle you with their knowledge of food, as well as, drink, but keep you entertained with humor and graciousness that will keep you coming back for more. Also, the view of the cooks/grill-masters from the bar is fantastic.
Agave, you continue to make me proud to call this corner of Intown Atlanta my home! Happy Holidays Agave!

This restaurant is my new favorite special occasion spot. My husband and I came in for dinner this past weekend for his birthday, and were totally wowed by our experience. We were sat right next to the fireplace, which made us feel like we were on a winter getaway! The food was delicious, the margaritas totally lived up to their reputation, and the service was right on point.... I didn't even have to mention it was my husband's birthday (I had done so while making the reservation), and the brought out a chocolate moousse! It was a really nice touch (and no singing!!!). Agave first on my list for birthdays, anniversarys, or just when I'm craving a serious margarita and guac!!!!!!!!!!

My husband just ate here again tonight and we love this place. The ceviche martini has become one my favorite starters - I can tell I'm going to start craving it. We always find the staff relaxed and friendly. It makes a nice change from the "attitude" you get at a lot of places. The braised short ribs and mac and cheese is to die for. Get the peanut butter pie for dessert - you won't regret it. I do always end up eating more chips and salsa than I plan to, but that's pretty much my only compaint.

Pros: Fantastic food and a warm, friendly atmosphere.

Cons: Bathrooms are kind run down. The toilet was in a pool of water - leaky?

this place is fantastic. sometimes it's too crowded but the food is well worth the wait. i've never seen a kitchen like this one before -- it's a small open kitchen and they work SO FAST.

I came in because my friends told me how great the bartender was. So we ate at the bar and she made our visit just perfect. Seriously one of the most entertaining, delicious, and fun experiences i can remember. i would highly recommend the fried chicken -- and make sure you talk to the bar -- Lisa will have a handful of funny stories no matter what you want to talk about.

I came in with a large group for a company holiday party. I thought the building was kind of unassuming from the outside, but it really felt warm and cozy inside, especially with the fireplace. Our server seemed to have a wealth of food knowledge and seemed very confident in answering any questions, and this is a tough group with a lot of questions. We were served family style from an array of shared entree dishes and sides. I had a spring roll, quesodilla, and some salad for my appetizers and knew we were in for a treat. I had fried chicken, salmon, and NY strip steak. Mouth watering! These paired nicely with the vegetables and mashed potatoes that our host chose for the sides. The key lime pie finished me off and that was it. But, I have to mention the margaritas. Our host chose to surprise us with marguaritas as we walked in the door to Agave, which added a really welcoming touch. By far, this is the best margarita in Atlanta. I will come back for sure and recommend it to anyone else.

First restaurant I've been to in a long time where I couldn't find one thing to complain about!!! My husband and I had dinner there tonight and I'm delighted to say everything was perfect from start to finish. Was my first time dining at agave. We were seated right away at a table upstairs that over looked the open kitchen. (really cool) We were promptly brought homemade chips and salsa, the waitress suggested a margarita called "the higgins" a house favorite, she said, and now we know why! Delicious! We went strait for the entrees, I got the "famous" fried chicken, (who knew a southwestern restaurant could make amazing fried chicken?) and my husband loved his lamb. We are thrilled to have discovered this place! Think we are going to become their newest regulars. Service was great, ambiance was romantic but casual, great drinks and food, couldn't ask for more. Thanks agave, we'll see you soon!

My experience before now has been great. My husband and I even took some friends with us who had never come in before. The food was as consistently great as before. Our server was really nice and sweet, even referring to us as "guests" giving it a cozy appeal too. We really feel at home when we come to agave, or at least like we're visiting with a relative. Everything was great until we were leaving. We were kind of in a rush and needed change for the parking valet while the men went out to get our cars. We waited at the bar for well over 5 minutes with the money out and visible, but we were just ignored. How would the bartender even know whether we wanted change or wanted to buy a drink from her?

After being ignored for what seemed like an eternity, I went to the edge of the bar and asked if I could get some change please. I repeated myself twice more and was never acknowledged. Then after getting very upset I turned toward the door to leave and saw the manager. I asked him if I was in the right place to get change hoping he would have better luck than I did. She ignored him at first too and when he asked for change, I watched the bartender become red and enraged and start to shout and scream four letter words like she was about to start swinging in one of those Jerry Springer type episodes. Somehow I left feeling violated and like all this was my fault. I even felt the need to apologize to the manager, which seems backwards. I've never been to a place of business and felt so much like I was putting out an employee by expecting too much or something. It was like I was asking for her right arm. Well, she made me feel very unwelcome and uncomfortable. It still feels like I had been visiting with a relative, only with one of those relatives you hope you never have to see again as long as you live. I won't be returning to agave any time soon after this experience and I will recommend to anyone that asks that the "buyer beware."

Several of my co-workers, and I met at Agave this past weekend for dinner and drinks.
All I can say is "WOW" The absolute best margarita's I have ever had, anywhere! (No exaggeration)
I chose the special of the day "Chili rubbed Sea Scallops, with cheddar, jalepeno stone-ground grits and a very generous side of garlic seared spinach as my entree, Oh My Gosh! This was a culinary master piece!

And finally, desserts. We ordered the dessert platter, and sampled every sinfully delicious creation Agave offers. One pleasant surprise was the peanut butter souffle pie with carmalized cayenne pecans. I am not a big peanut butter fan, but this was one the best desserts I have ever experienced. The cayenne pepper adds a smooth little subtle kick, that almost got past me.

Our waitress (Devon) was very attentive, and warm.

About to make a reservation for this weekend!!

We were treated like royalty at the Agave tonight!

We were blown away by the kindness and professionalism of the staff from the time we arrived until the time we left.

We were served tonight by Marcus who kindly seated us in the loft area which has a great view of the entire restaurant.

Tim, the GM, came over to our table and spoke with us, making us feel very welcome.

We had the chicken quesadillas, pulled pork tacos, fried chicken and enchiladas.

Everything was so authentically southwest my tastebuds were doing cartwheels.

I can't recommend this place any higher. You get 5 star food at a bargain price!

Jack and his crew just celebrated their 8th year anniversary and no reason why there won't be another eight years to come.

My wife and I went to Agave this weekend on the recommendation of a friend who considers himself a regular. We knew we had to try it eventually. We were thoroughly surprised. it's in kind of a plain building from the outside, but once inside it feels like some kind of adobe in the new mexico desert. It was a really cool atmosphere, nice lighting, and kind of rustic. We had the shrimp appetizer and calamari. Absolutely amazing! I never expected it to be that great right from the start. The waiter recommended a house specialty margarita that was not on the menu that he called a "higgins," which is hands down the best margarita I've ever had. My wife agrees. For dinner, I had the pork chop and my wife had the salmon. Again, the food was consistently mouth watering. For Dessert, we shared a sliver of really rich chocolate cake that was to die for. Aside from the amazing food at reasonable prices, the service was the best we've had in a long time and maybe have ever had. The waiter seemed to know instinctively what we wanted to drink and eat, even though it was a tough choice for us. Everything was done politely and with a smile and we were always attended to. We can't wait to get back now that we've tried it. If you go on the weekend, a reservation is a good idea. The host was nice enough to get us in quickly although he initially mentioned a wait. This is our new favorite restaurant.

I agree wholeheartedly with the other review posted here: usually Southwestern restaurants offer plenty of vegetarian options, so we don't usually even bother scoping out their menu the way we would for other types of places. We were shocked to find that there was very little for us to eat. It's a great atmosphere and lovely patio, but how sad for veggies!

My Mom and her friends from New Orleans visited recently. I took them to Agave the first night they arrived Atlanta. They all just raved about the food, the service, the atmosphere, the wine and tequila selections, etc... And believe me, if Agave passed the food test from my Mom, the biggest critic in the world, that says a lot! We all ordered something different (tenderloin medallions, seared tuna, shrimp and meatloaf) and every dish was fantastic. We also shared the dessert platter and all I can say is WOW! They wanted to end their trip on a high note, so we went there AGAIN for dinner their last night in town. It was just as good as the first night! That's another thing I love about Agave - they are consistent. Bon Appetite!

Agave is a great restaurant with many tasty options on the menu.. Great food is hard to find, but matching it with excellent service is even more difficult and Agave does both wonderfully. The wait staff is friendly and informative. Highly recommended to anyone who likes southwestern food or in the market of trying something new. The prices are a little high, but you get what you pay for, great food and great service.

I went to Agave for the first time last night with a group of 7. I had been looking forward to this for a month! So many people said such wonderful things about Agave. The menu and wine pairing was chosen for us. The food was good with the exception of the Lamb. It had so much rosemary, I felt like I bit into a Christmas tree! The wine selections were awful and apparently the Chef's choice. I was so disappointed. Even those at the table who were not wine conissour's were making faces of disgust. The wine might have been better and so might the food, but together they were a disasterous combination! The dark cholocate mousse was served with a Malbec! I believe that a good chef would know either how to pair wine properly with food or hire someone who knows what they are doing. For the money, I would go elsewhere. I walked away with a real bad taste in my mouth.

The food and atmosphere was amazing and the margaritas are unbelievable!!!! I took my mother to dinner there when she visited for mother's day weekend. The service was great and everything was decently priced. My mom was very blessed and impressed with the location. It ws extremely loud in the restaurant but we had a two seater in the corner and were able to enjoy conversations. I would definitely go back. My recommendation is to make reservations. Thank God we did. The wait was insane!

When I was ten, my parents dragged my stepbrother Ronny and I on a hellish trek through the southwest. What should have been a scenic journey through the eroded landscapes of New Mexico and Texas turned into a personal Trail of Tears. I had a nasty case of the chicken pox, and rather than quarantine their sick child, my parents propped me in front of endless cacti, adobes and indigenous people. I remember The Alamo, but only because Ronny held me down in the courtyard. I hacked up dust the rest of the trip. Nightmarish flashbacks can detract from a dining experience (never ask me to Chuck E. Cheese?s), hence I was reticent to check out Agave and its southwestern fare. But at the behest of a friend wielding a coupon from the Savvy Shopper, I gave them a shot.

A brawny gent seated us by the fireplace, a splendid roost to survey the impeccable, rustic decor. I ordered the Don Eduardo Anejo Margarita, and after one sip, wanted to put on my swim trunks and dive in! Where was that drink when I was a child? A basket of heated nachos quelled our hunger. They must have been laced with opiates given their hypnotic sway. For our main meal, my friend received a towering lattice of pan seared Tuna and Asparagus over Mashed Potatoes - a keen melding of ocean and farm. I got the Chile rubbed Grouper served atop Spinach and in a bath of Corn Puree. Wondrous food! Our forks hopscotched from plate to plate as we savored the complex seasonings gracing our plates. We inhaled both dishes with abandon. After conducting my ?finger test,? I asked and received more of the delectable corn nectar. I practically coated my face with it.

Feeling haughty, we split a second margarita, The Pomorita, which adds pomegranate to the mix. Mexican firewater AND anti-oxidant goodness? What God did I please?! Thank you Agave for overcoming thirty-two years of shame for an exquisite meal. Better prepare extra nachos and corn magic, for I SHALL return!

We have eaten at Agave several times (10-12) I've lost count. It never disappoints!! We don't live in town and it's well worth the drive. Our service is always awesome, we have taken all our friends and out of town guests. Try the Pom-Marg. it is incredable and they have a great beer selection not to mention the Tequilla. I have eaten most everything on the menu and have loved every dish. Try them all !!! If the fish tacos aren't on the menu you can ask for them. Enjoy, we sure have !!!
