I love The Place. Though i have only been there five times in the last 6 yrs. I live in Athens and my father in Marietta so when I'm able to I go there for a great evening. First, I'd like to say that you are welcome by staff and patrons

The Place will never get my business again. I advise all blacks to stay out of there. There was an issue with a black guy and security asked the guy to leave. He got up to leave and was walking towards the door and the security guard

I have to agree with the guy who shredded this place for their DJ. Although I must say that his taste buds must be off.

Pros:Convenient parking,Hot bartneders
Cons:
1.) Drink Prices. Holy CRAP are they high! $3.50 for a domestic? Almost 7 dollars for a well mixed? The place is a dive with a good wrapping.
2.) Music. Go elsewhere unless you want to hear the same music every weekend. Also the audio system sucks badly. Either that or the DJ is as deaf as he is talentless (which is pretty much)
3.) Food. Mediocre for the price charged, but when you care more about the money than the quality, it shows.
4.) Waitstaff. Pretty but brainless.
5.) Decor. Looks like you put mahogany over your clubhouse walls. WHo are you kidding?
6.) Dance Floor. Tiny Tiny Tiny. BUT they have over 10 speakers cranked to the max so you get lulled into the sense that it's bigger?

In summary: Bad. Expensive. Hot Bartenders.

I've been to The Place Bar & Grill several times and enjoyed the food and the staff. My office is around the corner so I have been for the lunch menu many times. They have lunch specials during the week with reasonable prices for the amount of food you receive. The service is always friendly and my lunch always comes in a timely manor.

I also have been to this location several times on the weekends with my friends. We enjoyed the music and the atmosphere. Every time we went they had several different meal and drink specials. Some place we have been charge a lot more for food and drinks. It's definitely a good place for a girls night out for diner, drinks and dancing.

Where to begin? EVERYONE tells me to go hit there on a weekend, so I figured I'd try a Saturday night. The place was packed, but thats where the fun went downhill. The DJ has got to be as deaf as he is old. The music is blaring and soooo over trebled its hideous (Yes I'm a musician so I get to be snarky). I was waiting for him to blow a tweeter horn. Also, how many times can you play line dancing music in one hour? Apparently according to this DJ as many times as possible. I guess if you don't have the talent to keep the people on the dance floor using good skills, you use whatever tricks you can to make it look like you have a packed dance floor. As people got drunker, they just wanted to dance, so they didn't care what they were dancing to. Also, nobody could understand a word this guy was saying. I could BARELY make out intelligible words unless the music was at a quiet note. Apparently the sound techs or this dude don't understand that your mic input needs to be given just a little more power than your other channels. Drink prices are WAY out of kilter for what The Place actually is: a smoky dive bar with a nice interior. I mean $3.25 for a bottle of Bud? I know the economy sucks but come on!

After conversing with my friends (although I think I'll rescind their title after THIS recommendation) about the bad music mix phenomenon, I see that it gets worse. According to them, the same music is played every weekend so you're assured of hearing a 80% repeat of "Teach me how to Dougie","Cupid Shuffle","Electric Slide", and the number one pop 40 tune of the week on both Friday and Saturday. Shake it up old DJ dude! Have your line dancing fun but come on!! VARIETY!

So I thought I'd try on Sunday for the food. I had about an hour to kill before heading to a friends house for a christmas party. Holy crap was THAT a wrong thing. Apparently there was a Swinging Sixty + Singles group was camped out at the door. THAT was a nightmarish thing to behold. Never knew they made Santa suits in size troll. I sat at a table, because the bar seemed to be staffed with regulars (Bless their souls for supporting this dump) who turned out to be real fun looking people.

The waitress was a pretty lil thing named Jan or something like that. She took my appetizer and drink order, and made a few suggestions on what to have. It was at that point in time when Shrek lumbered behind the DJ booth (Not the same DJ I saw last night) and proceeded to completely screw things up with the audio. I think the place fell silent for about a half an hour(once again, musician = license to snark) as Shrek was twisting knobs and pushing up sliders and connecting to everything under the sun. When things finally came back up, the music was soft enough, but you could tell that the sound system was dang near cranked to the max. This guy clearly had no business behind the booth. Shrek then proceeded to be about as energetic and awesome as a dead, decaying slug. The music was stuff that should never have been put together. It's like someone was just downloading songs off the internet and having a ferret on a cocaine binge slapping them together. I mean how do you go from YMCA to Cupid Shuffle?

The food actually was passable, but the drink prices were still out of this joint's league. C'mon owners/GM's give us a break! If you're that desperate for money, get a loan or something, don't pass your debt along to us.

In closing I'd like to recommend the following to the owners/staff of The Place:
1.) Lower your drink prices. You have potential for this place to be more than a dive bar with a mahogany coating.
2.) Get better food. People will always drink, but the food will keep them coming back.
3.) Hire good DJ's. If the two clowns you had playing this weekend are ANY indication on what the talent is regularly, just shutter the doors immediately. Do not pass go and do NOT collect 200 dollars. Get someone with talent in there.
4.) Get some local bands in there. A live mic night is a good start, but how about supporting the next REM, Collective Soul, or Zac Brown Band?
5.) Fire your sound guy. The guy is clueless as the day is long. His job is to get the music in tune with a good tight bass thump and crisp, clear highs. Do you REALLY need 14 speakers on a postage stamp dance floor and do your rear speakers need to be louder than the dance floor? The 3 hanging speakers and either 2 mega powered subs or 4 mid powered subs on the floor are perfect if not just a little overkill. More speakers does NOT mean better sound. The only thing that DJ's should really have access to in a small club like this are a jack to plug into on the soundboard and a volume slider. Most music these days are done via MP3's so if you have a channel with a spare RCA connector jack in there or even an XLR connector, thats all you need. A GOOD DJ knows how to tune THEIR equipment to match the venues.

Awesome singles dance bar! I love all the single men that I can always count on being there, I haven't paid for a drink in months :) ok really, this is the best place in the area for singles!

Staff is great and drinks are fairly priced. Always free for us ladies and always guaranteed to have the men all over you. The food is great and the dancing is all nite. The guys you meet are professional, handsome and gentlemanly. Best "Place" in the North metro area. Ladies be ready for a great time and all the single men you could want to choose from!

I love this place! The women are great, mature and friendly.
Great place, if not the only place for us single locals. Staff is nice and everything is quite reasonably priced.

I have run into quite a few swingers here for those who like

I strongly suggest you don't run a tab and do keep an eye on what passes for bartenders. Ordered two beers and ran a tab, but when I closed out, two additional beers magically appeared on the tab. I left a 3/4 full beer on the bar in front of my chair that I had been sitting in all night (and placed a napkin on the top which any decent bartender knows is a sign that the drinker is coming back). When I returned from one dance, my beer had been tossed. Asked the clueless brunette where my beer went. She just shrugged and walked away. I don't know what game they have going, nor will I return to find out.

My daughter has Multiple Sclerosis. Unfortunately, she has trouble walking, sight, and her speech is slurred due to the MS. She had an altercation with someone in the bar, reported it to security, and was immediately treated as if she was drunk even though she tried to explain her disorder to the ignorant manager. Let this be a lesson to anyone of you who happens to have a loved one who has a disease or handicap. Stay away from this place. No compassion or understanding goes with this place. BEWARE!

The Place is a great little club on the corner. Even if you don't know anybody in town you can go hang out there and dance. You can meet so many really fun folks. The staff is really inviting and so are the locals. The only negative thing I can say about The Place is that there's not enough room and it's pretty crowded on the weekends, Sometimes you need to be prepared that you may not be able to sit down, but with the great music you may not want to.

Everyone in the PLACE was smoking. It was so bad we had to leave. We've heard the food was good however couldn't stand the smoke. Some people where eating and smoking at the same time it took me back to the 1970's.

My wife and myself(over 45) visited The Place this Friday night and I was pleasantly surprised.I have given the rating 4 starts(above average) for certain reasons. Firstly its a fun place. The security guys dressed up as the sheriff are friendly and welcoming. There is no entrance fee.The place is bright and colorfull and more like a sports bar than a night club, located in a good Marietta area. The air conditioning works well and the place is spotlessly clean. The dancing music is mixed, very mixed anything from oldies to hip hop and country. The Place is for an over 30's crowd for sure.I saw 30's 50's and 70 year old people having a good time, whites and blacks all dancing together to "We are Family" and meaning it. Line dancing, I believe is an institution and most people know their steps pretty well.
Another reason for giving The Place above average 4 stars is the price of the menu and the drinks. Very reasonable.I had a Greek Gyro and fries $5.95 and my wife had the Grouper fish and salad $8.95. Our bill for the evening came to $32 odd , and yes we did tip our lovely hard working waitress.
All in all a fun evening, no trouble no hassle and no great strain on the credit card.

Pros: Good mix of dancing Music and nice size dance floor.

Our first experience with The Place was with her sister club in Town Lake. The Place at Town Lake is more of a younger crowd, and the dancing gets started much later there. Don??t get me wrong there's nothing wrong with the Place in Town Lake but, our quest to find a place where the interest is primarily dancing eventually led us on the longer trek to The Place in Marietta. Our long quest has ended as the dancing starts early and ends late at The Place.

There are other places inbetween, and we could easily go somewhere else, but we choose week-in and week-out to come back; now we are regulars on Fri/Sat nights. The Place is it if you like dancing, partying, and friendly people. You won't break the piggy-bank going here, drinks and dinner are reasonable. The food is excellent for the price. The Grouper sandwich is awesome, but bring a big appetite or a friend. The dress is club casual to formal. Special events like the Halloween Costume party, New Years, the Luau make the holidays The Place, the place to be! We had a wonderland time Halloween and the best New Years ever at The Place.

The best feature of this club is that people hit the dance floor early and keep the floor occupied until closing time. Many regulars come from all over the metro area to party here - I think that says a lot about The Place! Most everyone is friendly and easy going with lots of regulars who make this a great place to party and have a good time. The Cons, the music is really loud; forget having a conversation with more than one person at a time (then again maybe it's not a con), Greg can get a little repetitive with his selection and more variety would be greatly appreciated. Sometimes he gets a little carried away with the disco or the country and clears the dance floor. (Hey Greg, a little more punk, a little more funk, a wider selection of dance rap) It gets really crowded at times with people standing in the walkways making it hard to get to the dance floor. Sometimes the dance floor gets so crowded you can barely move.

I can only speak for the week-end evenings but ?

The crowd tends towards 30 and up with a good mix. This is a dancing crowd, so if you are looking for a great place to dance the night away you've found it. If your looking for a place to sit around, drink, and have a conversation, let me recommend you go somewhere else. Lots of single gentlemen eager to hit the dance floor, many will ask you, others can be led to the floor with the slightest of persuasion. The Place has a diverse crowd and is not the place for bigots or closed minded people.

Singles - As with most clubs this is predominantly a singles crowd. The men are basically gentlemen with only the occasional a-hole. There are more dancers here than the average club; with a broad mix of types, ethnicities, and personalities. Many are regulars most are friendly and cordial. More are handsome than not, most of the older men are well preserved. The gals are fun loving and love to dance with the guys, the gals, in groups, and solo. There is less drama and cattiness here than in most clubs; either the gals are more confident and sure of themselves or perhaps an underlying LP exists. From young to mature, common to stunningly beautiful our 'ladies' are awesome.

Couples - If you're like us and you love to have a good time, dance, make friends and enjoy the week-end, this is the place to be. Even though we haven??t found that elusive unicorn here, we have found lots of good friends and an open and engaging atmosphere. The Place is one of those rare couples friendly places, where you will not feel out of place. You can mingle with the crowd or stick to yourselves and feel at home here. One of the first times we came here a couple wanted to share our table (it gets crowded); they had met here and hooked up.

Ladies and Gentlemen. I am tired of clubs and public establishments writing their own reviews, this should not be allowed by City Search ever-my opinion! YES WE ALL KNOW WE ARE SUPPOSED TO TIP, I am sick of clubs writing their own reviews telling us to TIP! I TIP LADY!
I think "The place" is not really "The place", although it is "The place" to be if you are 45 and single! I did see one or two younger(I'm 30) girls there, but I date up to 44 yrs old-that is generally my cut-off unless they are super hott! The bouncers are wearing cowboy hats, and have small man disease, and everytime they see a muscular man, they feel like they need to puff up a little and get an attitude-not to feel small. Guys, relax, have a beer, and enjoy the view, otherwise shut-up, your not in the CIA and most of us can take you! Service=great, as long as you can barge your way through three men blocking the way, with no courtesy, unless you are a big breasted female, and sometimes that doesn't even matter because they are drunk and thirsty.
I did however go a few months ago, and had a really good time, because I danced with my woman and had drinks, so it was what I made it I guess. If you are 30yrs old, and like mature women, go there...if you are a 40 year old female, and like well dressed and hung young 30's, ask for me... the good looking Italian-dark wavey haired big guy standing by the dance floor! Just go and spend some money...YOU MIGHT LIKE IT!

Pros: Drink Prices, Atmosphere, Hook-up easily with Mature woman, Mature woman

Cons: Mature woman, Bouncers with Small man disease, Very Old Men trying to hook up-more power to ya I guess!

This place is a little whole in the wall that is great place to go for dancing. The food is bar food but the atmosphere is great. It is a fun place to go for girls night without having to drive to Atlanta. The crowd is an older one and you don't have to worry about to many crazies.

This is a great place for all ages. The music is awesome and the food is great as well. It does get a little packed on the weekends, but that's because it is a fun place to hang out with a group. Dress code pretty normal if you go out at all. No ball caps and you need to have sleeves on your shirt. And If you are used to going out, you know that you DO tip. That includes the bathroom attendent that is probably taking care of people who can't when they are too drunk to take care of themselves. Word to the party people... Don't be cheap and take care of the people who take care of you. If you don't want to spend money don't go out.

Pros: Good place to meet people and dance - hot servers and bartenders

Cons: Gets a little Crowded

Over 30 crowd. great dance music, can be smoky, has small always packed dance floor. Moody bouncers in regards to dress code. Bring cash for the chick in the teeny tiny bathroom.
