I am a local author in the area- I am also an avid reader. My husband and a cousin visited the Barnes & Noble (Duluth location). I immediately noticed that we were not greeted- while other customers were met with a friendly greeting.

I approached the representative at the checkout counter for assistance with a book in the African-American interest section. The rep immediately responded, [while pointing with a disgusted look displayed on her face], ??you have to go to customer service for help?. I asked the rep if she could assist me because there were not any customers ready to purchase/check-out. The rep simply shook her head, as she continued to display a disgusted look on her face. My party decided, enough is enough- we decided to leave and order the book online. While walking out, the service representative then said, "well I guess I can help you now". Please keep in mind, she overheard me say, ??this is the worst service and I will report my experience?.

In business, service speaks louder then the actual product. Although, I have never had an unpleasant experience at other Barnes & Noble Locations, I will never shop at Barnes & Noble again! That includes downloading on Nook. Going forward, I will shop Amazon & Kindle. Very upsetting experience!

Barnes and Noble is a great place to Browse, but not such a great pace to shop. They have a wide selection of books, CD's, and DVD's, but only a few select items are discounted. The remainder of the merchandise is sold at retail prices. Most of those items can be purchased for less on-line.

One of the best features at Barnes and Noble is that they invite extensive browing by providing comfortable seating and an upscale coffee shop. On the downside, their discount prices on newly released books, DVD's and CD's, are generally higher than the sale prcies at discount retailers like Best Buy and Circuit City.

Barnes and Noble has an outstanding selection of magazines and newspapers, and it is possible to find bargains on novelty books and items that have been reduced for quick sale. This particular store is conveniently located near Gwinett Place mall in Duluth.

While I could spend hours browsing in Barnes and Noble, I rarely do, since I can usually find better prices elsewhere. It's a great place to visit, but not my top choice for shopping for books, movies, and music.

PROS: Great for browsing, Great magazine selection, Great coffee shop
CONS: High prices

I love this place, so much it is hard to find enough words. I could get lost in the isles. They have it all, every author, every genre, you name it,, they have it. Their self-help section is enough that if you were in need of counseling before you walked in you would walk out with enough info to counsel yourself!
