100 year old Rev. Ben Ramey (born February 2, 1907), a former tenant at the Wheat Street Towers located at 375 Auburn Avenue #1009 was tackled to the floor in his resident and robbed of $170.00 on Friday, January 25th by another tenant in her forties to support her drug addiction. Rev. Ramey suffered a broken hip and was hospitalized at the Atlanta Medical Center. He told the police from his hospital bed on Thursday, January 31st that the woman entered his apartment and demanded more money from him after he had already loaned her money. He stated to her that he did not have anymore money. At that time the woman grabbed his pants pocket in attempt to take his wallet and demanded for more money. He stated that he held on to his wallet as they struggled. The woman then tackled him to the floor, and then reached in his pocket taking $170.00 from his wallet. Rev. Ramey stated that while he was lying on the floor, the woman tossed his empty wallet; hitting him with it and left him there on the floor. Another tenant found him and called the police and paramedics. Before this incident occurred, Rev. Ramey was in excellent health, riding Marta if he felt like it. And he still had all of his memories. The hospital informed me that he would have to go to a rehabilitation center for therapy upon leaving the hospital. Rev. Ramey died of cardiac arrest at 1:45am on February 2, 2008, his 101st birthday.

??This is a clear case of poor management as well as poor security?, said Cassandra Thomas, Mr. Ramey??s Grand-daughter. ??I had no idea that these elderly high rises were allowing younger generations to dwell with the elderly now, whoever came up with this idea made a very major mistake. And I am told that this lady (45 year old Nicole Williams, now in the custody of the police) was a bully and had robbed other tenants. I??m sure management were aware of this and just didn??t care because when I went down to meet with Diane Reynolds on Monday, February 4th, staff members and tenants were tipping as they approached me whispering, (??I see you had her locked up, it??s about time?), one woman told me, and then another tenant whispered to me, (??I knew when they started letting these young folks live up here with us, it was gon be trouble?). So that told me that there may be more tenants there being bullied by other younger tenants and the state should look into it quickly?, she said.
