My cousin and I got their Hot Pastrami sandwich. I noticed it was not very good. Upon looking their was only 2-3 thin slices of Pastrami in the sandwich. How they could put this out I'll never know. I will go to Jason's Deli or get a Rubin

You need to enjoy and appreciate true Greek food to like dinning at Athen's. YaYa,teaches her staff how to prepare greek food the right way. We do not live close or would dine here often. We do go when in town.
Of course we are greek ,I teach greek cooking at a local community college and perhaps can enjoy food from the old country more than others. The service is slow sometimes but the place is usually packed at that time.
Great atmosphere too.

The food is decent. Probably the best thing I've had there is the mediterranean pizza. Their tzaziki is excellent, and I love gyros, but every time I've ordered one, the gyro meat is way overcooked.

I've always found Athens to be consistent - not great, but consistent in service and food quality. On Saturday ordered an eggplant parmesan sandwich, and when it arrived took one bite to determine it wasn't eggplant. When I showed the waitress that I thought it was meat not eggplant, she put her face down to the dish, declared it eggplant, but just cooked to a crispy stick. I ended up just pulling it off my sandwich and having the bread and sauce. When the bill came, I was horrified to see it said "veal parmesan" - I haven't eaten veal in 34 years and was literally sick to my stomach. When I showed her that she had put in the wrong order, and that I don't eat veal, her reaction was "you're not going to get sick from that one bite are you?" And I ended up paying for it!

That has probably ended my trips to Athens because there are at least two other Greek restaurants I pass along the way. . . .

Having grown up in Decatur, Athens Pizza will always hold a special place in my heart. It was actually the first pizza I ever had outside of my mother's homemade pies. So with that said, understand you are reading a biased review.

I've tried a few of their Greek specialties over the years, but I always come back to the pizza. I love the slightly sweet and flaky crust, and while some might characterize it as too greasy, I wouldn't.

The Athens Special is always a favorite for sharing among groups, but I tend to be a pick-your-own toppings kind of guy. I'll switch it up every now and then, but my mainstay is gyro meat. Where else can you get that on a pizza?

In regards to these so called "Atlanta Pizza Wars", Athens would probably get overlooked by most. The Greeks haven't much for battles since the BC times anyway and my guess is Mrs. Papadopoulos has never heard of Jeff Varasano.

I checked out this place a month ago for an anniversary party of 30. I was told we would have the "party space" for the evening and we would have multiple servers. When we got there only one server (Nancy did her best) was assigned for the group. Service was slow and some never got their drinks. It took over an hour to be served. Even though they were responsible for the delays, we were told we needed to be out in 45 minutes because another apparently "more important" group was coming in. I can now tell you how to have gifts, cake and fun in 30 minutes or less. The food is nothing special and apparently the owners feel the same about customers. The other parties planned for our group activities will obviously be held someplace else... maybe Target's food court; we'll get better service and food.

I would be greatly delighted to see all of you spoiled and coddled trust fund Emory and Agnes Scott students take your business into the over-rated and over-priced Buckhead dinning spots and let the locals enjoy this wonderful restaurant that has thrived here before you were even born. Athens Pizza is THE BEST!

My friend and I went here for dinner and asked for a gryo wrap to be put on the sub bread, because I do not like the pita bread. The waitress told us the cook would not make it. I thought this was amazing, I have never been to a restaurant where they would not accomidate the customers.
When I got the gyro, it was not very good. I was disappointed.
I would greatly recommend Athens Kouizzina off pleasent hill road, they have much better food and service

I was looking to see if the special today was linguini with red sauce and seafood and while looking for this information I saw about 5 terrible reviews.... I am puzzled....I have been eating here for 20+ years and have never had a meal that disappointed. The staff is and has always been very helpful and courteous. The food is reasonable and delicious. I even created an account to put in the word, but all you have to do is go and see for yourself. If the food and service was as described then there would no way they would still be in business and thriving after 20+ years at the same location. All I can figure is that the reviews I read were from Emory students who didn't get a discount or something and wanted to flame them. That is okay, for those of us who have lived in the neighborhood for 20 years Athens remains a favorite. When you go give a shout out to Mama Papadapoulous....if you have a problem either she or her son are on hand to handle customer concerns. I am going there tonight for supper. The bad reviews are more a reflection on the reviewers than this resturant. I can't speak for the one in Norcross, but I will check it out as it is near my church...I think it was the one that moved from Chamblee, which was admittedly not as good as the Decatur location, but still worth a trip and in Chamblee with over 100 resturants that is a compliment. So what you should know in a nutshell:
Athens is a great place to eat.
Complaints about food and service are dealt with by the owners and not some slack jawed college kid.
The food is good.
The food is reasonable (you can always find a lot of Presbyterians in the resturant which indicates that the food is a good value for the money because Presbyterians are so cheap but they also have good taste.)
If you go you might get to meet Mama Papadopoulous and she can tell you about life.
Peace,
G

Good Afternoon,

Is the newly opened location of ?Athens Pizza? in Norcross next the Shayne?s rib shack associated with you? The reason I am asking is because I assumed that it was and after looking over your menu posted on line I was prepared to try the special:

When I inquired about it to the waiter he said we don?t do that any more. I?m thinking what?? You just opened like a week ago and you don?t do that anymore. So I asked what the gyro comes with and was told nothing it?s pretty much just a wrap. I ordered it anyway hoping for something great. Anyone who has had a real gyro in a family owned Greek restaurant knows you probably don?t need fries. I waited 30 minutes for a small, disappointing, almost flavorless, sorry excuse of a gyro. Dried out meat and you really had to hunt beneath that lettuce to find any believe me. What a huge disappointment. And when I went to pay of course the coupon that you have posted on your website for 10% off does not apply. She said ?oh that?s Decatur? I said no problem and couldn?t wait to get out of there. So $7.22 plus a 1.00 tip plus the dollar I spent on the way back to the office on chips because I am starving after the measly excuse of a sandwich, not to mention the gas I spent to get there, is close to $10.00 and still no fries and no drink. If I got fries a side salad and a drink I could have completely wasted what; about 18 dollars. The 1980?s rock/pop music was a real classy touch too, hooked up to someone?s I-pod behind the counter. They have a whole lot of competition in that price range. Please let me know if they are associated with you.

I recently had Athens Pizza supply pizza for an event that I held in Atlanta. A coworker of mine recommended using them since they had such great pizza. I was very happy with the help I received from the staff in setting up the order and they even delivered it since I placed a large order. The pizza was great - everyone commented on its great taste and asked where I ordered it. I will defiantly be visiting the restaurant soon.

Went there on a tuesday they were not to busy we were seated right away when we walked in we were greated by a pleasant man who sat us with a smile. When our waitress finally came she seemed disinterested in serving us. We ordered a large greek salad and pizza the food was soso. The atmosphere was not friendly and the service was just as bad. We were not impressed. We wanted a desert were not offered any suggestions. We told the man at the register and he apologized and told us to come back which of course we will not.

This place is very strange. The outside seems somewhat inviting, but once you get inside the decor is very odd, and reminiscent of a hospital cafeteria. I've only eaten here once, and that was enough to put me off for good. The food was barely mediocre, and the pizza just wasn't up to snuff. But the atmosphere is so overwhelmingly unpleasant (including a rather large brown insect scuttling across the floor) that it overpowers everything else about it. We were glad to get the check and quickly head out the door.

A group of my college friends went in to grab a quick bit our findings were to much dressing on the greek salad greasy pizza and poor service.when we entered we were greeted and shown to a booth when our server finally got there he seemed in a hurry to get us to order he said he was greek and made a few suggestions then hurried off we asked for dressing on the side but he put the dressing on the salad he seemed stressed and was not very good at serving he left dirty dishes on our table and always seemed in a hurry. When our food finally arrived it was cold our server took it back to make it hot but seemed like that was a bother. When we finished he recommended a desert but did not take off any of the diryt dishes we said no thank-you and left. We will not be back.

After some 25 years you would imagine that the food and service at this establishment would be so soo!! much better ..I am truly surprised with the quality of the food and service I was given when I went to this place for the fist time with my family and friends. Servers were moody ,rude and very intolerant to the customers questions, and requests. The waitress that served us was so dismissive, she spoke really fast and very disrespectful ., food was brought to the table cold! ..Pasta dish was still frozen!!! So much for being fresh!! Asked for a white pizza ."no red sauce" for the kids, ..NO cant make it! Pizza comes all ready pre-sauced and frozen! not fresh! !! Dishes were dirty, as well as the booth we sat in. The yelling and the noise coming from the kitchen window was terrible, .. what can I say from a scale from 1 - 10 , I honestly give them a "2". I think that management has really made a disgrace of this place. Just because this place has been in business for such a long time and has a devoted customer base, I believe there are much better places to go!..it was the worst dinning experience I have ever had.!!

I previously looked at some editorial about this so-called fabulous, pizza and Greek food joint, and since I just moved in the area and enjoy a good pizza pie and great Greek food, I thought this place would be the answer.

This claim is far fetched, the pizza was very bland, although ,yes, it had all the makings of being a good pizza, but it didn't cut the mustard. As for the Greek overshadowing the pizza? What a joke, no flavor, toasted chicken delight, I would not recommend this place for it's pizza or it's Greek food. On the bright side the waitress was nice and serviced well

The food at Athens pizza is absolutely delicious! Service is fairly fast, considering your pizza is being made from scratch, and the staff are efficient and friendly. I recommend the deep dish pizza with your choice of toppings - just the idea of the thick, bready crust is making me hungry! The menu also offers salads and other selections, but why would you go to a pizza place and NOT order pizza? Treat yourself to a lovely, luscious pizza fresh from the oven! Parking is plenty, but traffic can be problematic starting in the mid-afternoon through rush hour.

Clearly the reviewer must have gone to one of the other establishments in town named "athens pizza."
Athens Pizza House of Decatur has the best crust I have ever eaten on a pizza in my life.
I heartily recommend Athens for anyone looking for good greek/italian food served as if you're a member of the family.

I find it very hard to believe that whoever wrote Athens Pizza up actually ate there. This restaraunt has a true family atmosphere, excellent staff, a great greek salad, excellent pizza, and some of the best desserts. The food is reasonably priced and is extremely flavorable - in fact, very different from cardboard.

Athens could have made a bad pizza. I mean the restaraunt is always full and they have been in business for over 25 years. That being said - I feel the critic was extremely harsh - and flat out has a complete opposite opinion of food - and poor tasts.

Pros: Good Food, Family Business, Very Friendly

.

I am from New England, lived here in Georgia 12 years now, thank god i finally found some good pizza. I love the pisticcio too. I was not crazy about the house salad dressing on my greek salad, i wish it was sweeter and more flavorful,,but i am glad i can enjoy great pizza and pisticcio without having to get on an airplane to BOSTON. I HIGHLY recomend this place to anyone.

Pros: Great Pizza, Great Pisticcio

.

Quaint, upscale location where you still feel comfortable in jeans and a T-Shirt. Great food delivered promptly by courteous servers. Cold beer, freshly made tea and incredible Greek salads - what more could you ask for on a Friday night outing! The pizza is excellent - not too thick and not too thin, yet almost overwhelmingly loaded with toppings. The Gyros are freshly made - not kept under warmers somewhere; and the pasta dishes are also rather good, especially considering this isn't considered an Italian eatery.

Pros: Quality of food, Atmosphere, Service

Cons: Parking , pasta dishes, not enough outside

Immigrants from Greece John and Asiemoula Papadopoulos made their livelihood in restaurants, opening the first Athens Pizza in 1966 in Connecticut, then this location in 1977. He now has passed away, but she continues on, keeping the faith…
