"Northern hospitality with Southern efficiency."

Avoid this Faux-ican disaster. The only thing authentic was my disgust.

We got such terrible and unjustified treatment here from the manager (as a group of people of color) that we thought the place might be run by bigots. Was ready to call the NAACP, until I read the citysearch reviews and learned that they are equal opportunity douchebags. And, seriously, the food is just "okay," at best. I don't see what the hype is about. Por favor.

This place is so not worth it. You'll get better food and much better treatment elsewhere. I can only explain this place's popularity as a successful psychological manipulation - making people think that if the lines are long and customers put up with abuse, the food must be good and the place is worth it. Trust me, it ain't. Don't fall for it.

Pros: will make you appreciate better food elsewhere

Cons: making the mistake of coming here

Do not bother to go here if you are a large group, have children, or expect to be waited on hand and foot. Depending on when you arrive you will most likely have to wait in line. This is not a place to lounge around at after you are finished eating. If you have a problem with any of these things, just accept that Taqueria Del Sol is not for you and stay at home so the rest of us who enjoy it don't have to hear you whine.

That said, the food is excellent, and the margaritas are some of the best in town. It is a fantastic place to grab a quick bite to eat.

I agree with other reviews - the food is always fresh and delicious. I don't even mind the lines so much. The main problem is the service. The hours are terrible as well. I arrived one night at 8:59 and was refused service...and it was a take out order....because they close at 9PM. The only friendly person I have found there is the young lady behind the register who takes the orders, cash, and hands out cups. Downtown decatur has only a few "fast food" restaurants. Actually, I can only think of McDonald's and Chik-fil-a, so make that 2 fast food restaurants. I think that's one reason Taqueria does so well: supply and demand. In spite of what others say, there's no need for the staff to be rude and arrogant. They are in a food service business. I don't think a smile and friendly demeanor are too much to ask for. What they need is a little competition.

Pros: Food

Cons: Service-Very rude

IF it was solely based on food, I would've given it at least 4 stars....However, the service was HORRIBLE! A friend and I sat at the bar and ordered a $30 pitcher of Margarita. We were still on our first glass when an employee from the Decatur location (perhaps the infamous ROBERT mentioned in the previous post) rudely told us to go sit by the window so that other customers could sit and EAT where we were sitting. Are you kidding me? Where do they think they can get off treating paying customers like that? Last time I checked, a bar was for having drinks. WE eventually sat at a table after ordering food and literrally felt "policed" the entire time. I will definitely report this incident and make my complaint heard loud and clear. In hard times like these you would think patrons would be going out of their way to deliver great service. Not so much at this location. Maybe you are better off going to the Howell Mill or Cheshire Bridge locations instead.

Pros: Tasty cheese dip and cheese enchiladas

Cons: Patrons are so desperate to "serve the masses" that they rush you to eat your meal and are EXTREMELY rude if you aren't a "local".

I dont like to ever leave bad reviews, but when I was told to "get the f@#k out", I was a little angered- no I was steaming mad.

My friend and I were having a drink at one of the bar tables watching a football game (2 females; had'nt been there for 15 minutes and sitting quietly)and the manager, Robert, said that we had to leave because there were other people that wanted to sit down at this table and eat. I said that we were paying just like those who were eating (probably more with our drinks than the tacos cost), and his order to us was to wait for a seat at the bar to open. I said that I didnt understand and that he was being a little rude- his words to me were "get the f@#k out". He snatched our drinks from our hands and went to the bar and asked the bar for our money back and literally walked us out the door. They were not even that crowded.

Even If he had even been slightly professional about the manner, and asked us nicely or had offered us another table or something, I would not be so upset. But the fact that he demanded us to leave AND cursed while pushing us out the door was totally unacceptable. I will report him!

We stood in line for 20 minutes to order food in Decatur. The line was out the door so we figured we arrived at a good place. The menu was very limited but different. I order a brisket taco and a chiken taco. The brisket was very good. The chicken was dried out and stringy. I flagged down a food deliverer and asked if they could replace the taco with a fresh one and it was like I took a knofe and stabbed someone.

They brought a new taco, dropped it on the table and left. It was just as bad. Still hungry I wanted another brisket taco but the line was even longer and futher out the door. I asked the server if I could get a taco without waiting another 20 minutes and the answer was "no, I can;t get you one, you need to stand in line with the other guests".

We left and will never go back!

The food is excellent, very authentic and inexpensive. The margaritas are the best. The fish tacos are my favorite. The only problem is you have to stand in line for your food and it can be very croweded. But it is worth the wait.

In reading City Search?s review guidelines, they request that these reviews be written candidly and as if you?re speaking to a friend. Well friend, based on my experiences I will not be going back to Taqueria Del Sol. There is no good reason why the staff has to be so rude to costumers. My last visit to TDS was the final straw. Confusion between the food brought to our table and what we actually ordered prompted me to motion a Staff member to our table. Man! The entire time I was talking, the Staff member just glared at me. He then turned his head mumbled something then walked off. My date was livid! I knew better than to pursue it because I know how these guys can get. But seeing my dates frustration turned the light on for me! I can?t be subjecting myself, or my friends to this type of treatment. Note to TDS owners/management, your staff rude treatment towards your customers is not warranted. If you were running a cafeteria inside a maximum security prison your staff?s behavior MAY make sense. But you are not! You have lost my business !

went to Taqueria del Sol at the recommendation of a friend and had an awful experience. I waited in line for 45 minutes to place an order. When I finally made it to the register, the guy taking orders was rude at best. We then went to find a table and all were taken. After waiting another 15 minutes, we were seated but then received cold food. To top it off, my friend's enchilada had what looked like a maggot in the sauce. When we complained, the waiter asked us to leave. We left gladly and never to return!

I went to Taqueria del Sol a few weeks back and got the worst stomach problem ever. After a few nights in the hospital, I was told it was probably something from peppers eaten a Taqueria del Sol. Avoid this place!

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Bad food

Even though the restaurant is PACKED on weekdays during lunch time, people eat and go pretty quickly. The service here is quick. People are constantly on the run. I was surprised how full I got with the amount I spent. If you're looking for quick, cheap Mexican food this is it. They have 3 locations that I know that I know of. Cheshire, Decatur, and Midtown. Located in 3 busy areas, it's good to just order and eat somewhere else sometimes!

I have tried all three locations of this place and it never fails to disappoint. They apparently only hire wait staff who are unmedicated sociopaths. I have never been treated so rudely. Worse, they seem to be proud of it. If you enjoy being treated like you are misbehaving in the high school cafeteria line, you will love this place. I will never go again. The food isn't particularly good or inexpensive either.

El Taco Veloz has more authentic and very good Mexican and they are happy you are dinning in there restaurant and seem to want you to come back. I would rather go there.

If you are looking to be treated badly, this is the resturant for you. The food is pretty good, but the horrible, rude service far outweighs any benefits. I have tried all the locations with the same outcome.

El Taco Veloz has better more authentic food and great service.

I would not waste my time or money on this resturant which prides itself on hiring only sarcastic, unhelpful wait staff who seem to be there only to enforce the 97 unwritten "rules" they have for customers, which include, you may not sit down until your entire party has ordered, even if the restaurant is empty or you have 15 people.

You also may not ask any questions about the menu without getting sarcastic and rude responses. e.g. "Are the beans spicy?" Response from the cashier., "This is a Mexican resturant, all our food is spicy, if you do not want spicy, you should not eat here." (BTW... the beans were not remotely spicy despite rude cashiers response.)

The food is better than Moe's, Willies and most strip-mall type Mexican restaurants. I tried to make Taqueria a favorite restaurant of mine, but with each visit Taqueria became more and more a place that I disliked. Whether its getting items to go, or dinning in, all my attempts to get around Taqueria's shortcomings, well, fail short. Attempt #1 - Timing my visit when the lines are short. That just didn't happen! Attempt #2 Only get orders to go... well that still required that I wait in line for an hour. And after enduring the hour long waits, and having no place to stand while waiting on my food to be brought out - that plan was moth-balled. Attempt #3 Only go in groups... having friends to talk to would make the line wait shorter and provide "defense in numbers" against the sometimes notoriously rude staff. I never seemed to be able to round-up a group whiling to go. I think that Taqueria should change their system in some type of sensible way. Excluding the bar area, currently Taqueria has only one person taking all guest orders, that same person handles all payments and dispensing drink cups. This causes the bottle neck which leads to the lines, which I personally think Taqueria uses as advertisement (passers-by see a long line of people naturally think somethin' must be good over there). I wonder if staffing up the kitchen to allow for two or three additional order/registers and somehow allow for phone-in ToGo ordering would help? I've noticed that the gap in time between my visits is getting greater and greater after each visit. I can't seem to get around the quirks.

Over Rated! Is how I'd describe this place to a friend. I visited TDS based on word of mouth from people in my office. I had the fish tacos, and my date had the chicken tacos. The food was okay, but we both left with the feeling "what is all the hype about". The food was okay, just okay. Now as it relates to everything else... oh my god! I felt like I was at Atlanta's Hartsfield/Jackson Airport! Looong lines, Workers with attitude ready to pounce if you break rules that you may or may not be aware of.... I can't see myself frequenting TDS... its just too much to go through for okay food.

Like other posters have said, your trip to Taqueria del Sol will start with an approx. 45 min wait in line to order from the one counter person as myriad militant staff stand around the restaurant doing nothing but folding their arms and glaring at you. Once you've been sneezed on, tripped over, and been deafened by screaming children, you will then finally have the opportunity to order. And oh, you think, these freaking tacos must really be worth it! When they finally arrive at a cafeteria-style table you've finally been allowed to sit at (ubiquitous screaming, running children still making you want to cut out your reproductive organs with one of Taqueria del Sol's dirty butter knives) you bite into the dry, chewy, flavorless pap, with sides that actually taste as if the word SYSCO is stamped in your mouth. What an absolute waste of time, money, and patience.

This place is not about atmosphere or service - it's the food, stupid. If you choose to dine in, you will be sitting in a cacophonous wash of loud voices and children bleating. Which is not that awful if that's what you're in the mood for. Don't make it a first date spot. The food is consistently great and the prices can't be beat for the quality. You'd be making a mistake by choosing Moe's or Willy's over Taqueria. I usually prefer to get takeout and make the short drive home to enjoy the food. Unless you time it right, there is usually a long line to wait through to get to the order station, but it moves at an OK pace. The only thing I don't like about the place is the attitude of the management. They know that people will line up for them, so they act as if they don't really need you as a customer. They don't accept takeout orders over the phone, and there are a number of other rules the "cattle" that patronize the place must be aware of. But again, the food is worth it. If they slip in that area, they will have trouble retaining customers.

The food here really is superb - I recommend the shrimp and corn chowder, the fried chicken tacos and the fish tacos. Unfortunately, the waits and lines are appalling. I just read a review that talked about packing your "patients." Well, if you don't have lots of patience, you may end up a patient - in a psych facility. On Fri and Sat nights it's Yuppie central with lots of the hip crowd's precious little monsters running in and out the front doors and weaving their way between the long, long line of people waiting to order their food. If you can't catch this place when it's just opening for either lunch or dinner I recommend you try somewhere else. Decatur has so many great restaurants that don't require you to stand in line.

Taqueria Del Sol has a limited menu, mostly tacos served with a variety of meat (chicken, Pork, fish, etc). A few chef specials are offered (and vary) per week. I found the fish, and fried chicken tacos the best. However, my total experience at Taqueria Del Sol was not pleasant and I will not be going back anytime soon. I thought by "packing my patients" , being familiar with the rules and long lines, would help me in handling the Taqueria Del Sol experience. I was wrong. I've never seen a restaurant employee be so rude/aggressive towards me in my adult life. There was a mix-up with 1 of the 10 items we ordered, resulting in the next table's salsa being brought to our table. A TDS employee comes out from the kitchen to our table and yells "You didn't pay for that salsa" then walks off (before we could determine the/his issue). WOW!!! I call the manager to the table, informed him of what just happened, and offered to pay for any misunderstanding (I'm looking to enjoy my meal not a negative ordeal). The manager offered to take the salsa away, or leave it at our table at no charge (there was no apology). The Floor Manager handled the situation fairly, but the worker's behavior is unacceptable. I too did not believe other reviewers when I read about issues they had with TDS's staff (feeling that surely there is a reasonable explination... right?) Well... now I know! I hope this review helps!

I too did not believe other reviewers when I read about issues they had with TDS's staff (feeling that surely there is a reasonable explination... right?) Well... now I know! I hope this review helps!

Pros: Food

Cons: Customer Service

.

I thought people were insane when they recommended this place because of their fish tacos. All it took was one taste! The food is phenomenal & the prices are very reasonable.

After reading some of the reviews below, I have to say I never even noticed the staff or encountered problems (and I've been there several times). Maybe it's because my first visit was with seasoned pros or that I'm always with a group of friends & pay no attention to the surroundings. Regardless, I always respond to my craving for fish tacos, cheese dip & shrimp chowder.

Like others on here, I too am a glutton for punishment, but it's the fish tacos that keep me coming back. And the nutty shrimp tacos and the scallops andhabenero cheese grits. Yes, you must wait in line, yes, you can only order 4 items to go from the bar, no, there are no high chairs or table service or ordering for someone else who hasn't arrived or table saving. With all these rules you wonder how a restaurant stays in business and why you keep coming back. In short, the food and the margaritas. Simple food, made well and cheap. Great place to bring kids, if you go early, before the rush, around 530pm, bring your stroller and own high chair, we bought one just for our trips to Taqueria. Get to know the staff, say hello to Mike and his daughter, who is often behind the bar, needless to say, a little kindness goes a long way! Yes, I've had my visits where I've sworn I'd never go back but everytime, it's a lie!

The portions are small for the prices they charge. I paid $9 for three tacos with very little substance. The only thing unbelievable about this place is how unbelievably sick my boyfriend and his sister became immediately afterwards.

Pros: Cheese Dip

Cons: Upset stomach

I always get the Fish Tacos and the Collard Greens. I think that they are to die for. I even make it at home now. I eat there about twice a month and have always found the service to be friendly.

Cons: I prefer table service than having to stand in line to get my food.

The food really is good. The staff however are so rude and condesending I really can't believe they stay in business. The Soup N$zi has nothing on these guys...That long blond haired bartendar is a real piece of work. I absolutely loved it when it opened and just thought the servers were hav\ing a bad day...I will never give these people my money again....Stay away...

I cannot comprehend why Taqueria Del Sol has almost a five star rating. I have been eating at this concept since its inception and almost everytime I go, the staff manages to upset me in some special way. I can honestly state that these people have no business working in the hospitality industry. Upon introspection, I feel though that I may be part of the problem as well. They will stay in business only as long as customers like myself keep coming and are willing to tolerate their behavior. Believe it or not, there is a restaurant with full service that sells their chef's recipes including fish tacos and their poblano corn chowder and you get really good table service. This place is called ths Azteca Grill and it is on Rock Quarry road down of Hudson Bridge road in Eagles Landing. I need to remind myself that if I want to eat their food, I need to get into the car and spend my money there instead of being constantly scolded by the staff for not following their unwritten rules. I recently learned that there is a waiting list for the bar and since I did not know about this special waiting list, I stood in line for over a half an hour just to be scolded for trying to sit down and buy food and drink from this incredibly rude business. What did I do after being verbally corrected? I got back into line and proceeded to spent about $30 on tacos, chips, and margaritas. I am truly a fool.

Pros: Good simple southwestern food

Cons: Rude staff, unwritten rules for dining, long line,

The sparse clean atmosphere allows a diner to think of only the food. Excellent, yet also sparse menu of well pared unique combinations. Yet one must stand in a not so conveniently placed line and walk drinks over to the table oneself. THEN you have to tip? Not sure. Also not sure about the cup of ice set given with order. Can I hold onto both a perfectly poured margarita and all my things and ice cup. Floor mgr not so willing to change or mix up the seating arrangement or allow kids to frolic freely.

My friend and I went into the restaurant w/ our two little girls (age 9 months) to have lunch. It was 12:30p or later and there was no line. We went to the table w/ our girls and the plan was to have one of us stay there while the other one ordered. As we both were at an open table getting our daughters situated a staff (possibly a manager but not sure) came up very rudely and told us we could not have that table until we ordered. We had our daughters in our strollers since there are NO HIGHCHAIRS and thought this would be easiest (again since there was no line or wait for tables). We tried to explain what we were doing and he cut us off saying that there were customers in line waiting for the table we had. It was a huge scene and we couldn't believe how rude the guy was... We left immediately after feeling somewhat humiliated and overall angry at how they treated us. I truly believe it was because we had two small children w/ us. Unbelievable! I will not go back and told the staff as much. I cannot believe a restaurant in Decatur would be so unfriendly for children with so many little ones in the area! It's their loss of business. There are plenty of other great places to go in the city w/ or w/out children!

I love their Enchiladas with red chilli or lemon cream, their soup, tacos, cheese dip, salsa, chips... there is nothing to not like about this place, fast service nice atmosphere I'm really trying.. but I can't think of anything I don't like about the place... maybe they could have super cheap PBR but then that might make the place worse because the only real downside to this place is that sometimes it has a line that is well out the door, however it always moves fast.

The order, pay, sit, eat, leave thing is way better then
the sit, order, pay, eat, wait for check, leave, thing, however order, pay, sit always leaves you in a quandary about how much to tip.
If you like the order, pay, sit sort of dining Pasta Figo is also excellent & right across the street from the westside Taqueria, try the salmon sauce while your there it's awesome!

Not quite related but there is a dude that always wears funny shirts there a v list celebrity in Atlanta according to some of my friends, in the same realm as baton bob. I think I want to make a list of V List Celebs so if you can think of other V lists in ATL send me a message.

The food is decent. That's the only good thing about the place. They are rude- please don't break any of their rules!!!!! They don't smile. They have nothing polite to say, they only speak if you violate a rule. They are not kid friendly at all, they have no high chairs. They act as if they are a high priced restaurant, but you stand in line to order your food (just like McDonalds). After you order your food, you are allowed to finally sit down! They bring you the food in a red basket.
They stand over you like a hawk, wiping tables the minute someone gets up. God forbid you even order a 2nd drink- they might just bust you in the face! The customer service is so bad I will never go back (and that's after we gave them too many chances to improve). The food is not good enough to endure the horrible staff. I would never recommend this place to anyone. There are too many rules to follow to enjoy dinner. I'm not a rule breaker and some rules are good, but come on, its ridiculous at this place!
They are rude from the moment you walk in after standing in line outside, rude at the register, rude delivering your food, rude while you eat, RUDE RUDE RUDE RUDE.

We went to eat here with my mother, sister, and 6 month old niece. There were plenty of open tables, so my mom toook my neice and sat at a table and then the manager comes by and makes her get up from the table until we had ordered. It's not like we were taking a table from somebody else. And the guy was so rude about. The food wasn't even that good for all the hassle.

We love this place, as well as the location on Howell Mill, and the grand-daddy, Sundown Cafe on Cheshire Bridge, with Sargent George and the crew. All the orginal taco combinations are here, with the fish tacos still our favorite. Get a side of Eddie's Green's, or the Pablano Corn Chowder. The line moves fast, be patient, this is fast-casual. not fine dining. Get a great marg, salsa trio, and wait on that satisfying order. And don't break in line, just follow the simple rules. Ole!

A co-worker and myself who have been regular customers of this restaurant since it has opened were treated very rudely yesterday at Taqueria. We ordered our food "to go" so when the server called out my name (and pronounced it wrong) and walked over to us with the food on plates instead of a bag, we thought it was the wrong order since we'd said it was "to go". I suggested that maybe there was another "Sandra" in the restaurant. However, it was our order. My co-worker told the server we'd ordered "to go" and after he sat the food down anyway, my co-worker asked, "So, they're just going to make us eat here anyway?" I said, "No, you need to take it back and make it to go". He immediately got nasty and said, "I need to?" I replied, "Yes, you need to because we ordered "to go". After he took it back and fixed it "to go", my co-worker asked what about that process was hard. He went off on a ranting rampage about how I'd said what he "needed" to do. She was trying to explain that we were initally confused since he'd said the name wrong and the order wasn't prepared right. He wouldn't even hear her out and blew us off to get the manager (whom we did not ask to speak to). After we watched him give the mgr his version, the mgr came over and my co-worker explained the situation. The mgr listened with a bored look on his face, rolling his eyes the whole time. Our whole point was that the situation could have been avoided if the server had just listened to us in the first place and had a better attitude; especially since we've been regulars since they'd opened.

Customer service needs some real work! Taqueria del sol will NEVER get another red cent of my money!

First of all, the food here is great! If you ever have the opportunity to get the Nutty Shrimp special taco, don't turn it down. It only comes around once every 8-10 weeks or so. Some regular menu items that are great: Chicken, Memphis and Carnitas Tacos. If you ever see the Low Country Chicken as the Chef's Special GET IT. So good, just the best kind of comfort food. Chicken enchilada with lemon creme is the best combination of the enchiladas and sauces in my opinion. Ok, so as far as all these really rude, mean managers and servers. Yes i've had a few moments where i went "what the hell". Here is the best advise you can get. If you go at a peak time, and you'll know by the line out the door, and you only have a few people and want to advoid the line then go get on the list for the bar. Yes there is a list, so don't sit down before you ask. There might be 10 people waiting in line that have been there 15 minutes longer than you and they may or may not be on that list. You wouldn't like it if someone just walked up and took your much waited for seat, would you? If you want a table then be prepared to wait. They only have so many. DO NOT, for any reason, go sit down before you order. You are just taking someone's table who waited in line and has food. That's not rude, it's fair. I find it funny that a lot of people that complained about the line also complained about being asked to leave. Well, that is directly the reason why there is a line. The quicker you eat, the quicker the next person sits down. When it's not peak hours you'll never have a problem like that. KNOW what you want to order! You've been standing in line, why don't you know what you want when you get to the front? That just takes even longer. Be considerate to others waiting, be patient in the busy times or go when they are slower. (i.e. after the lunch rush & after 7:30PM at night). They have the best frozen margaritas and the food is always worth the wait, you won't be disappointed.

OK, now I believe it. After years (10 or so) of dining at Sundown, then Taqueria on the west side, and now in Decatur, hubby and I have spent a gazillion dollars on food and adult beverages there. Stories of their rudeness-by-design amused me. I assumed the tellers of those tales just didn't know how to follow the rules.

(This is a cautionary tale, but the grandmother-on-walker story wins the prize. Don't take Grandma!)

Hubby and I had a seat at the bar, ordered margaritas and guac/salsa/chips. We had a second round (earning our seat at the bar, see?) and a friend dropped in to join us. Uh oh; not allowed. He ordered his marg at the service counter. Bartender, quite friendly earlier, informed friend that he couldn't stand in the service area. Understood, but give him a minute to put his wallet away, ok? Then she informed him that he couldn't stand behind us, either. Also understood, but he has not a moment to assess the situation before she's shrieking again. There's a seat next to us, so he heads for it. She barks out that he can't sit there, either. "People might be waiting for a seat at the bar." Again, understood, because we know how it works, right? So we turned to see what she could already see--that there was no line at all--Not One Person Waiting, you hear? It was pouring rain last night in Decatur, GA. By now he's like a duck in a shooting gallery. She tells him that he must go through the line before sitting....but he already had his margarita! Where was he to drink it? He couldn't stand; he couldn't sit. No solution was offered. She never approached to discuss or explain; just issued verbal commands from behind the bar. My husband, a retired Navy Lt Cmdr told her "too many rules!"

Finally, it was decided that since no one was in line, our friend could sit next to us. But no one told us that; we had to ask. The manager completed our service; the bartender never returned.

And neither will we.

This place could be so much fun. The wait in line is a time to talk with the folks you came with and to look around (generally see someone we know), the food is good (not great), well the corn chowder is wonderful, but it is all well worth the $ and the margaritas have a good kick to them. I even enjoy the industrial decor, it works. The problem is the ordering/seating/push to get people out the door mode of operation has evidently turned the staff into very cynical, rude folks who don't even try to accommodate their guests. I know there are rule breakers on the no seat until ordered rule which can be trying on the staff, but the general inforcement of all their rules (there seems to be a lot of them) makes for a harsh expereince. The concept of guest seems to have generally escaped this staff. I will go back because the food is good, but not as often as I probably would because it just isn't as much fun as it should be.

Cons: the staff, maybe it is just one or two bad apples, but they spoil the experience.

Taqueria del sol is a unique mexican dining experience. They have a standard menu and nightly specials. Some of the specials are very creative, like calamari tacos. The price is great, the food is great, the margaritas are great. I love the fried chicken tacos and the chicken enchiladas with lemon creme sauce. If you haven't tried it, you should. I recently moved and was pleased to discover Taqueria Sundown cafe just around the corner from me, so I won't have to drive all the way back to decatur to continue enjoying this food.

Pros: Everything is good and worth the wait

Cons: the sometimes-long lines from all the people trying to enjoy the food

.

This place is soooo yuummy. I am addicted to their fish and chicken tacos...mmmmmm...I have been there many times and have never had to wait a long time for service and you rarely have to interact with anybody that works there to get a feel for the quality of service. You order your food in the line. Someone delivers it and thats it. It is a really quick transaction...I am not sure what all the complaining is about in relation to bad service...but take a chill pill people. The food is out of this world.

Pros: Good Parking, Inexpensive, Tasty, delicious food

I've been to TdS several times and had a less than courteous encounter with the staffs. Recently, after placing my order, I was handed a soda but not a tea. I kindly asked her if she got my tea order. (I normally get their marqueritas to pass the time in line, not tea). She rudely retorted with "That's what the cups with ice are for" and hastily pointed to canisters in the far corner. There were several paper cups filled with ice on the counter. She didn't hand me a cup, just the soda. How was I to know? It was very embarassing & degrading. I'm not an idiot. Never again will I give a penny to their business or recommend it. The food is good, but not worth the trouble to get it. If I want cheap and decent mexican food with crappy service, I'll go to Taco Bell.

Pros: food, marqueritas

Cons: rude staff, seating policy, line

The line is usually out the door, especially for dinner. Try going around 2pm on Saturday when the line is short. The fish tacos, cheese dip and margs are great. It's a great alternative to the usual mexican.

Ive been to both the West Midtown and Decatur locations and have yet to be disappointed. The service is fast, the prices are fair and the food is great! They take an artful approach to concocting their tacos by offering choices such as fish tacos and pulled barbecue pork tacos. The shrimp and corn chowder is delicious as well (and strangely enough, actually really good as a dip for tortilla chips).

If I'm eating $2 tacos, my kids should be welcome--especially in Decatur, where children are very active and involved members of the community. A friend was actually told by staff, when asking about high chairs, that "we don't have high chairs and we don't cater to children." My own children were reprimanded as we awaited and dinner. And don't let anyone in your party sit down while you're ordering! You'll get a major slap on the hand for that. I get a babysitter for fancy meals, but not for restaurants where I order from a counter!

Great food but this place is THE MOST kid unfriendly place we have ever visited. Our kids stayed at the table all night but when we asked if boosters were available, the OWNER replied "Oh, no, no , no, not here, ever". That coupled with snide remarks we overheard from waiters about kids at the restaurant will keep us away. It's good but not worth the treatment you get if you have kids with you.

This place is amazing! Probably some of the best tacos I've ever had, not to mention the great variety. Going from fried Tilapia, to pulled pork, to the more traditional carnita, they are all fantastic. The line is usually a bit long, but nothing a good margarita won't fix. Usually nice to enjoy one in line, and then one with dinner. Plus, once you order and sit down, you food will be in front of you in a matter of minutes. The West Side Margarita is definitely worth the extra cash. Salsa trio and a sampling of the cheese dip is a must every visit. I might have to concur with some of the assessments of the staff's attitude, but I think I can say I've seen that improve recently. Forums like this one may help to realize their faults.

Pros: Great bang for buck!, Food quality, West Side Margarita

Cons: Staff a bit abrasive

Unfortunately, I will not be returning to Taqueria. Although the food is definitely something to write home about, the staff is discourteous and just plain rude. The man usually taking orders has rolled his eyes or spoken to me and others in an impatient and arrogant tone countless times.

Once, when I seated my grandmother at one of the 8 open tables, placing her walker to the side, I left to stand in line to order our food. One of the main employees quickly informed me in a harsh manner that my grandmother would have to move so that she wasn't taking up a table. Where was she to go? He pointed to the empty chair in the corner, then brushed me off.

Needless to say, I was appauled, my grandmother was embarassed, and we went across the street to Watershed and enjoyed a much better experience. How very unfortunate.

Pros: Inexpensive, Great Food , Great Margaritas

Cons: , Constant Long Line, More Rude Staff

Really solid and and excellent value. Any of the tacos are good. My wife likes the fish ones. Either of the two pork ones work for me. Perfect for a quick lunch or snack.

The rest of the menu is lackluster so stick with the tacos. The three salsas were all pretty bland, the enchilada overwhelmed with cheese and the guac seemed store bought.

Like some other reviewers alluded to, the staff can be pretty chippy. So be prepared.

Overall, the tasty tacos and cheaps tabs outweigh the other negatives.

When Taqueria opened...I told everyone about it. It was a weekly ritual for us after working out at CoreBody.

But last night was the last straw. Afer placing an additional order, we moved when the couple next to us began to smoke.

One of the owners came by and said, "It's a bar, people smoke there. You have to finish your meal at the bar once your're there."

What happened to empathizing with loyal, paying customers? With no line/half empty...why not let us enjoy the rest of the evening away from the smoke and explain their policy for the next time.

Another owner who works the cash register...rolls his eyes and sighs if you ask for corn tortillas...it's like he's doing you a huge favor and requests get ignored anyway.

With so many great Decatur eateries, I see no reason why we should patron Taqueria.

Pros: Servers at the bar, Vege Tacos

Cons: Rude, Rude, Rude

O.K. the food is good but it takes ten bucks worth of their food at lunch to fill me up. The menu is very limited (at least for lunch), the staff is VERY unfriendly, and no fountain drinks--overpriced can's only. Worth a try I guess but not worth the drive to Decatur.

The Taqueria is in a great space with good food and better margaritas. The down side is you have to order at the counter before you can be seated and you have to go back to the bar to get more drinks.

Also don't think it's a good place for Saturday afternoon maragitas. They're not open between 3 and 5:30.

If you drive by and they aren't busy stop in. If they are go to the Raging Burrito they have a great patio and a wait staff.

If you don't mind consistently rude wait staff and a 25-40 minute wait, you can get a good cheap taco. My husband and I have given them the extreme benefit of the doubt and after no less than 5 horrendous experiences with staff and wait time, will never never return. Good food is not worth the stress of that atmosphere.
