Front Page News is an uptown New Orleans Bar & Grill, right here in Atlanta. We feature an Award winning French Quarter style courtyard for patio dining as well as our covered rain or shine patio bar and tavern style indoor dining room. Front Page News serves traditional and new American food with a New Orleans twist. We are known for great burgers and po'boys, traditional New Orleans entrees like Jambalaya, Gumbo and Ettoufee. A new menu launched for Spring 2009 features entree like Roasted Bone in Pork Chop with Vidalia onion and dried fruit glaze, Herb Rubbed Mountain Trout with Citrus Arugula Salad and Mahi with roasted Corn Salsa. Front Page Also has live music on Weekends Check out the French Quarter Sunday Brunch featuring live Jazz and the famous 100 item build your own bloody Mary bar!

The Scene
Lush ferns, a trickling fountain, wrought-iron fencing and dark-wood accents welcome neighborhood residents and day-trippers to Atlanta's original counterculture area. The decor is a touch more modern than its sister restaurant in Midtown. Staying true to the theme of the restaurant, walls are covered with front-page newspaper clippings. An upstairs loft houses a few tables for intimate dining or cocktail sipping; the lower level is a mix of tables and booths.

The Draw
People come here for the cocktails and hearty Cajun-style fare. A make-your-own-bloody-mary bar beckons weekend revelers with an enormous array of hot sauces, spices, olives and mixers. While drinks are flowing freely, you can fill your belly on generous portions of po-boys, fried appetizers, seafood gumbo, burgers and crab cakes. Sunday brunch is also popular with omelettes and heaping sides like andoille sausage, bacon and grits.

Key Points

  • Patio Dining
  • New Orleans Style
  • Sunday Brunch

The Inside Scoop

  1. Parking - For once, easy parking in Little Five: Front Page News has adjacent covered parking that is free for patrons.
  2. What to Drink - Try the "Blanche" martini, a homage to "A Streetcar Named Desire" that brims with the same saucy attitude.

Ratings_icons Not bad, but not great

Emily M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,330

I've been here a couple times, and it's been very inconsistent. Sometimes, the food is great. Sometimes, it's just okay. The food and drinks are a bit on the expensive side. It can get crazy on the weekends, but during the week, it can be a ghost town.

Great atmosphere! You'd wouldn't expect all of the ambiance that is with in the walls of this place. I enjoyed the burger and fries. They were hot and the burger was just right. The young lady that served us was great! This is a great place to relax with friends after work.

Ratings_icons Fun place!

Brandon S. | insider Insider | Rank: 24,144

I went a few weeks ago with a small group of friends. We didn't order any food but the drinks were good. They had a band the night we went that was entertaining. When you are on the top level the band can be a little loud because of the tight quarters. The parking can be somewhat annoying especially if you park in the parking garage across the street. You have to be out by 1am or your car spends the night. Definitely plan accordingly for that. Overall, fun place, nice staff, and good prices.

Ratings_icons Great Place for Weekend Nightlife

Alex B. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 9,324

Good food. Great diverse crowd of people. Always pretty busy at nights. Live music and bands play. Inside and outside areas. Pretty good variety of food as well.
Normal cuisine at a reasonable price. The food was plenty and drinks weren't too expensive.
Although, during a busy night it's hard to get a drink at the bar, so you might as well get two while you're up there.

I like Front Page News for the atmospere and the patio. The food is good, not spectacular, but good. They have great margaritas and a good bar. Sometimes too crowded, especially on weekends, but nice for a week night.

A little short on vegetarian options, but fine for a quick lunch or dinner. Very nice patio when it's not too crowded (which unfortunately does happen a lot).

This a great place for an afterwork drink or a relaxing dinner with friends. The bartenders are friendly, the food is quick and good. The outdoor patio is great in the spring and fall and the pretension level is at a zero.

Ratings_icons Brunch anyone?

Deidre's A. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,168

This is a great place to have brunch especially when the weather is nice and you can sit out on the patio. The entire staff is very friendly and the waiters/waitresses are very knowledgeable about the different meals. The prices are reasonable for the amount of food and for the area. There is a covered parking deck right next door, that gets crowded quick.

For the best in food and environment, check out front page news. They have some of the best food but the setting of the resturant make you feel like you are on the Island of Jamaica. Very nice!

Ratings_icons Great restaurant!

Jean w. D. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,286

This is a great Cajun-style restaurant in Little Five points. The food is excellent. I especially like the chicken fingers and the Ribs. They have a full bar, and the bar is really big. It's a great place to hang out after work...nice, laid-back atmosphere. The prices are very reasonable. On Mondays, they have Texas Hold-em tournaments with just a $45 buy-ins and it's a lot of fun! This is one of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta.

PROS: Great food, great atmosphere

Front Page News' patio was a great find. The fountain is very relaxing and creates a great environment for a day date or casual business lunch. The hamburgers were the best in the city and service was prompt and friendly.

Pros: outdoor dinning

Ratings_icons Apparently I was wrong!!

kermfan

Apparently my friends told me my review from before was too harsh. I will stand by my "sit at the bar, not a table attitude". I called to find out my bartenders' names. Apparently Danilelle and Matt are the bartenders to have a good time with( again, loud but fun) Servers, I am still iffy about.. I will also suggest the bloody marys(spicy/hot ones). The food is still leaving a bad taste in my mouth, but I'm willing to let my friends talk me into another try. Supposedly it depends on the day you go, the type of food/service you will receive. Anyway...sit at the bar...order food cautiously! Hope my friends and neighborhood people find this less offensive than my last review.

Pros: fun bar staff and good drinks

Cons: lack of everything else, in my opinion!!!

Ratings_icons Waste of a good patio

maurose

I've eaten here twice. On both occasions, the service was barely adequate. Even though the restaurant wasn't crowded, I felt like my friend and I were forgotten. The food tastes like it's fresh of the Sysco truck. I guess if you're looking for nothing better than a pretty patio for a few drinks and maybe some bar snacks, it's ok. But definitely not a dining destination.

Pros: Beautiful patio

Cons: Below average food

Ratings_icons Nice patio...Horrible food...Horrible Management

djwdir

Having a good understanding of what cajun food should taste like I thought that this place would be a new favorite of mine based on some other reviews. Got there and the patio was very nice!!! Got a drink, not bad. Ordered the salmon dinner...absolutely disgusting. The red beans and rice...worst i've ever had. Oh yeah, I ordered a crab cake for an appetizer...they forgot it. So I decided to send my meal back. The manager comes over and asked what the problem was. He then says that they do not take food back because it doesn't taste good. Huh??? I dont send a lot of food back, but I've tasted bad food from Burger King and they took it back, this is supposed to be a decent restaurant. Anyhow, after arguing for a moment he took it back. I ordered a simple shrimp po-boy. How can you mess that up. Well they did. Food has no seasoning, bread was dry. I just threw my hands up. If you enjoy tasteless food then try Front Page News today!!

Pros: Patio

Cons: Food/Service

Ratings_icons Front Page is Spring in Atlanta

MrAbato

For food, drinks and great patio Front Page news IS springtime. The patio can't be beat. The busy nights are more a bit of a hassle on the patio but the dining room inside stays reasonably quiet until around 10ish. The menu is great, but I must admit, I have so many favorites, I rarely try anything new. While my friends say the new Orleans food is the draw, I prefer the blackened chicken salad and the amazing blackened salmon salad. (I like salads, alot) Wine list is short but decent, and quite inexpensive. We usually start with Martinis and switch to the special drink list later. Perfect neighborhood joint for dinner and drinks anytime!

Pros: Great patio, Free Parking, Live music

Cons: Wait on weekends for patio, loud.

Ratings_icons Even better after 3 years!

folyanb

We just moved back to Atlanta and one of our first nights out we returned to Front Page. We used to go to Front Page before we moved 3 years ago and I am glad to report it is better than ever.
The patio is still fun & festive and the bartenders (some old faces, some new) Seem to always pour a extra strong drink. The food is still fabulous, we had a steak and Jambalaya Like most non-tourist restaurants in new Orleans there is more than just "Cajun and Creole" food. From many years of visiting I can tell you, Steaks, burgers, and the Jazz brunch are great. There is no better place to celebrate being back.

Pros: Great patio

Cons: Can be busy on Sunday brunch.

Ratings_icons bad service worse food

crankyyanky

It is a shame that this place calls itself cajun. It is the farthest thing from it.The food is well below average.
\\Personal examples.
They dont devein there shrimp.
Food far to bland to be referred to as cajun/creole
At times snippy service
food prepared apathetic and indifferentI give it one star for the patio where you can enjoy over priced cheap beer.

Ratings_icons Delicious Food

BNSupra

Front Page News is one of my favorite places to eat. I always go there for a meal when visiting Little 5. All the food I have tried here is great. This includes the burgers, salmon sandwich, muffelattas, and their seafood gumbo is outstanding!! (order it with a side of rice!) The only draw back is the service is not up to par some of the time (seem like they don't care about you at all), and if you sit in the wrong spot on the patio it can smell like a sewer. All in all it is a great place to sit down and chill out and have a delicious meal after walking around shopping.

Pros: awesome food, location

Cons: service

Ratings_icons Need better service

donnamccrellis

Love my Sunday morning brunch so when Front Page News was introduced as a brunch location, I took some friends July 1 to check it out. I remembered having been there before in the evening and the service was appalling. It was Saturday night so all was forgiven. Sunday Brunch was the same. The food was good but it was cold and when they ran out of Homefries, they brought me grits without informing me. I HATE grits! Service was really lame.....yet again. If Front Page News could improve on their service, as the food is quite good, it would get a higher rating. Waiting over 1 hour for brunch really takes the biscuit.

Ratings_icons Good food at reasonable prices with great customer service.

I think I said it all in the title of this review. We like eating at Front Page News before going to the Horizon Theater. We can arrive a little more than an hour before the show, have a great meal at reasonable prices and their great service allows us to be at the theater in time for the show (this is great during the week after work). Also, did I mention the they have free and ample parking as well -- a great benefit in the Little 5 Points area.

Pros: Parking, Outdoor Seating, Food

Cons: n/a

Ratings_icons Love this place

fallbrit

We've been eating there for over 5 years. We feel more comfortable there then any place in Atlanta. There just aren't many places in Atlanta where you can talk and be heard, and still enjoy great music and food. A real piece of pre-Katrina New Orleans .
We love the variety, and we really like the value; the prices are reasonable. The patio is the best in town and theres tons of parking (free.)

Pros: Bread pudding, Steaks, Seafood Gumbo

Cons: Can be slow

The place to hang out on the patio for summer, all winter long we wait for the opportunity to eant FPN's Jambalaya, Gumbo burgers and pastas on the perfect patio. We like the food here but we really come for the opportunity to sit on the great patio and enjoy summer in Atlanta. Sit outside, have a great burger and relax. Perfect.
Be sure to try: Ettoufee, Crescent City Chicken, Great Big Easy Burger, Wild Mushroom ravioli
Be sure to Drink: Blanche Martini, Bloody Mary Bar (Weekends), Ask for Dani at the bar, she's a lot of fun!

Pros: Crawfish ettoufee, Huge parking lot, Ravioli

Ratings_icons Big Easy

pineshandi

After eating at Sabroso last week we found parking so easy we decided to try Front Page News which shares the other end of the same building. Another hit. The food was as different as possible from the tapas bar but excellent also, I had the big easy burger and my girlfriend had the ettoufee. Both portions were generous and prepared just right. The burger was huge and juicy, much better than the disapointing Vortex down the street. The chocolate cake for dessert was the biggest piece of cake I have ever seen, We shared it, and a few drinks with a couple at the next table. One strange thing, a kid kept riding through the dining room on a tricycle.

Pros: Giant desserts, Tricycle friendly

I had not been to Front Page in sometime, after a bad meal several years ago. I went back recently and was very suprised the food is not what it was, its much better, very exciting and the lovely crowds are still here. There now is a large menu with ton of specials, its worth trying.

Pros: New Manager, Staff & service, Improved food

Cons: Crowded brunch, No reservations

Cool atmosphere, service can be a little slow if you are sitting on the patio, so lay back and soak up rays (order two pitchers at a time). Been there 5 times and the service is much better Mon Friday. Brunch is slower but no better place in town to waste an afternoon. Right up the street from L5P shopping. If you get seated near the front part of the dining room, watch out for the sun at happy hour . . . blinding. Food is good and relatively inexpensive

Pros: BRUNCH!!!, GUMBO, PATIO

Cons: Sun in eyes

This is where I go when I have a few hours to just chill. It's also where I bring friends who visit from out of town. There is no better patio in town. Sunday brunch can be great depending on the service. A few meals here with a group of 5+ went well good food, service, etc, others were disasters with lost food orders and no remorse. It is hit or miss.

likeprairie

Front Page is a great neighborhood bar with solid food. A great place to take visitors as it always seems cool. Only downside is that they can't seem to hire good hosts/hostesses. I've had to wait to be seated on several occasions. Once you get a table, it is worth it though.

Pros: great food, beer!, parking

Cons: slow to seat

Ratings_icons Slow service and cold mashers.

macopa

This place seemed to have a great atmosphere, but the service was slow and our server was completely inattentive and ambiguous about our dinning experience. Mashers were cold, and it was obvious that our plates had been sitting in the back for God knows how long. Even though our server had maybe 3-4 tables in his section, he was running around like he was trying to find a cure for cancer. Overall, you can do a lot better for the $$ and pain.

Pros: Outdoor patio, Live Music

Cons: Service, Food

Worst food and service EVER!

It took over an hour for us to get food here, on a SLOW afternoon. Server was unattentive and mostly only paid attention to a couple of guys at bar (must have been regulars cause they certainly werent cute!) Regulars got food in 5 minutes, ours took 45+, mgr didn't seem to care. Food was burnt and cold.

Pros: parking, patio

Cons: Service, Food, Management

There were good choices on the menu that it was hard to decide what to choose from. The server was attentive as well and friendly. I think it is one of the best places to hang out in Atlanta

This place must have new managment or something. last time the place looked great but service was so so. A year has gone by and even the hostess seems to love being here. The staff was friendly and made great suggestions; The mussels primavera was the special appetizer and we ended up getting a second order! Try the grilled fish and even the prime rib was great. A total suprise since this is a tavern not a fancy steak house. Best patio in Atlanta and free parking!

Pros: Free Parking, Huge Patio, Service

Cons: , No more live crawfish

samantha_whitcraft

I love this place it reminds me of the places we hung out at in New Orleans but with BETTER FOOD!
Front Page News in L5P is even better than the original. We eat here at least once a week and it gets better and better, the new chef cooks really wonderful specials like last night I had a grilled grouper in a wine reduction that was out of this world. My boyfriends says the Jambalaya is better than any he had in New Orleans. The patio is beautiful like the one in Midtown but the inside in L5P is really nice also. Secret tip: The balcony is a great spot to get romantic inside a busy bar.

Pros: Great food, Very pretty, Great for large group

Cons: , Wait for tables

This is a perfect place to down a few beers outside in the fall. The drinks are reasonably priced and the ambiance is very cool. Don't come here looking for spectatular food but it isn't bad by any means. The parking is great and it is conviently located near other L5P destinations. FPN is an ideal spot to start a L5P bar crawl in other words. Nice change of pace from the local dive/urban hipster bars...not that i don't love them too.

Pros: price of beer, close to other bars, parking
