I have to go back

by Robert H. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 10,317

I have only been once, I really need to go back again as the food was excellent. I had a chance to speak with the owner there she mentioned they had an additional restaurant over by 400 and home depot expo. We also talked about London as they had a restaurant over there. Overall the food was great along with the service. I would forget about the decor and atmosphere of the place. I wonder what the deal is with Indian restaurants in Atlanta do they all have to make the decor so tacky !!

Pathetic!!

by benaam

Went for a weekday buffet. This was after we had tried other restaurants in the area - Madras Chettinad, Tadka, Sri Krisha Vilas. So the hopes were high. But as another reviewer has already written. Do not believe the ratings. This is especially true about Santoor. There wasn't a single dry curry. Even curries that are traditionally dry were "liquidy". The consolation was the sweet lassi we ordered separately. The cost of the buffet was close to what you would pay for at all of the above restaurants where the variety and quality of food far surpasses Santoor. The service is very good and friendly but if that is the only thing good, that cannot be the motivation to go to this restaurant!! Poor..poor...poor

Pros: Good service

Cons: Bad food, not enough variety

BLAND and OVER PRICED

by LozBrit

Very bland curry, even when we asked for spicy. Really disappointing as the owners said they moved here from Sheffield, UK, so we were expecting the same level of curry we get in the UK. They really need to update the style of curry. BLAND and really over priced too.

Pros: NONE

Cons: Bland food, Expensive.

Be careful... all indian restaurants are rated 4 or more on 5

by Padru

There is no Indian restaurant that does not have a 4 / 4.5 star review. Pl be careful. We are an unethical breed of people and inflate our ratings. Least realising that all indian restaurants end up being 4.5 on 5. Pl use word of mouth and personal discretion to visit all of these restaurants.

I wish health and happiness in yr experimentation with food.

all time favorite Indian place

by elbag

I've eaten at a lot of Indian restaurants here in Atlanta and in Chicago and New York as well, and Santoor is still my all-time favorite. You might not think you'd find something like this in a little strip mall in the suburbs, but there it is and the food is always delicious. My wife and I are big fans of the chana masala, aloo sag and vegetable korma, but we've never ordered anything here we didn't like. The samosas and nan breads are the best I've ever had. The rice pudding is also especially good. The service isn't lightning fast, but it's always sincerely friendly. A must-try if you're in Roswell and well worth the drive if you live in the city.

Pros: authentic, consistently delicious food

Best Indian I have had in Atlanta

by jgfichte

I'm by no means an Indian food expert. I have been to more than one restaurant in the Atlanta area, however, and Santoor is my favorite. The food is always delicious, and we always have leftovers to take home. The owners of the restaurant are very friendly and recognize us when we come in. I've only been there about 10 - 15 times in the past year, and he knows my favorite beer! The only thing I would caution against is do not go here thinking you'll be in and out in an hour, but it's a quality experience all the same.

Pros: Food, Friendly

Cons: Hard to find

Great Indian Food without having to travel to London!!!!

by fergusontoodles

As far as we are concerned Santoor is one of the best Indian restaurants in the South. My wife is from England and we always compare the Indian restaurants that we eat at in the US to the great ones that we have eaten at in London and the rest of England and Santoor ranks with the best of them. The offerings are simple and to the point but that is how we prefer it because we know it is always consistent and good. Plus, their prices are very reasonable for the quality of food that is offered. If we take friends out that have never had Indian we always take them to Santoor because we know we can depend on a quality meal. One of our favorite meal is to order a dish of Chicken korma (sweet) and a dish of Chicken Madras (hot) or Vindaloo (incredibly hot) and then combine the two. The Sag Aloo is a great side dish with potatoes and spinach. Don't miss the Shrimp Puree for an appetizer. It is wonderful. We prefer the cream version but the tomato version is also nice. When you go to Santoor you have to be patient. It is a mom and pop restaurant and sometimes mom and pop can get pretty busy but the food always arrives hot and delicious - well worth the wait.

Pros: Fantastic food!!

Cons: Good food somtimes take time to make!

Warm & friendly service with delicious food = A #1 in my book! The food is cooked to order or weekly lunch buffet, with a great & varied menu. Pretty decor & never had to wait for a seat.

Good Indian Food

by kapa

We have eaten many times at this restaurant (and the one these owners used to have on Roswell Road). The food here is very consistent and dependable. The owner is very pleasant and strives to make sure you have a good experience.

Delicious

by fullofsecrets

I've lived in Atlanta for many years, and I've eaten at various Indian restaurants. Sitar of Tandoori on Peachtree and Maharajah on LaVista used to both be faves before they closed. However, Santoor is surely a great way to cope with those losses: I tried it for the first time last night, and was very pleased. We had Vegetable Chaat as an appetizer; my husband had Chicken Tikka Masala for his entree, while I ordered Lamb Korma, and both were so good that we wanted to keep eating them after we were full. Our heads turned at the wonderful smell emanating from another diner's Tandoori mixed grill of lamb, chicken, and I -think- shrimp.

We chatted for a few moments after our meal with one of the owners, and it seems they vary their lunch buffet daily to keep things fresh and interesting. She said they have Chicken Makhani sometimes on the weekend buffets, which is certainly a draw for me as that's one of my favorite Indian dishes. We will definitely be returning to Santoor for more savory, flavorful Indian cuisine.

Pros: Delicious Indian cuisine

Cons: At busy times, it might be difficult to find a parking space

Best Indian in Georgia!

by langford88

I drive across town to dine here. The reason that the service is a little slow is because they don't PRE MAKE THEIR FOOD!

Pros: Great food, friendly

Cons: Far from the city

Decent Indian Food

by jeba

I've eaten at this place a bunch of times now and I must say it's as good as some of the best indian food I've ever had...I've lived in Boston, NY, and Los Angeles...There's another place up on Winward that's pretty good too...Andy's I think? But this place has some super nice people working there but they are slow as molasses...I do take out and give them awhile...They should deliver...

Pros: Good food, nice people...

Cons: Could use an update inside...

Extremely Disappointed

by rsarieh

The service was terrible. The waiter served everyone pompadoms except me. $2.00 was added to my entree for no apparent reason and the Chicken Tikka Masala tasted like old buffet chicken tikka doused in Kraft BBQ sauce.

Awesome!!

by craig_c

Being a Brit living in th US, I have missed real Indian food so badly. There are more Indian Restaurants in the UK than any other. Until I found the Santoor, I had been so disappointed with the food served up in ATL Indian restaurants.

The Pakoora is simply the best and I also go for 'British' hot Vindaloo. Wow!!!!

This place deseves to be Number 1 on everyone's hitlist of must do restaurants.

Pros: food, service, congeniality

Cons: none

And it continues to be the best in town years later!!

by cynicalcritic

Well, i continue to be an avid lover of Santoor, years and years later even with the many new restaurants that opened and closed, Santoor remains to be my favorite! As any food lover, i also have tried just every restaurant in town as they open just to see if i can have another favorite. Service is exceptional, you want someone to smile at you and really care if you are enjoying your dinner, well, you get it here. One can tell its a family restaurant, you will see the children helping occasionally and then friends (sometimes customers) really going out of their way to help when its busy. Its the loyality of the customer base that you see when you are there. Here's the competition to all those big city Indian restaurants. Tucked away in posh Alpharetta, one finds the best Indian food ever @ Santoor! The service is impeccable (sometimes short handed due to the unexpected crowd), decor is exceptional with stain art, canvas' depicting India's jewel, Taj Mahal, and the hand painted hangings of the Moghul era. Tandoori mixed dinner a great value with its tender pieces of Lamb-Chicken & my favorite was the Ras Malai definitely a home-made dessert just mouth watering. I have recommended Santoor to my friends and they praise me on my choice of food, service, and decor.

Pros: Price, Authentic Food, Ambience

Cons: More Advertising

DEFINITELY NOT A WASTE OF TIME!

by brm_queen

There's only one thing I can say about this restaurant that I've been frequenting for years now...WOW! The food is amazing, the owners are friendly, and the hand painted art on the walls are beautiful to look at. In fact, it just got voted as one of the top romantic restaurants in Atlanta. If you haven't tried Indian food before...this is the place to start...just let the owners know and they'll give you great suggestions, and if you're an expert, let the owners know what you want because they'll take special request. This place is definitely worth your time.

Pros: romantic, party room, service

Cons: not well advertised

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!

by ashishckt

My experience at Santoor Indian Cuisine in Alpharetta, GA was terrible. First and foremost, the food is horrible. The entrees lack flavor due to an inadequate amount of spices. I know most of the reviews of this restuarant have been positive, but trust me, I've been to hundreds of Indian restuaraunts in the Atlanta area and this by far, is the utter worst. Not only is the food bad, but the service and hospitality were horrific. Customers do not come first at this distasteful indian restaurant. Lastly, the atmosphere at this place attempts to be romantic but is honestly quite cheesy.

Cons: Rudeness, Distasteful food, Environment

I only ate at this resturant once, but I plan to go back very soon. We ordered take out without calling it in first, so naturally we had to wait. While we were waiting we were given samples of various appitizers to taste, which were delicious. The food is great, the staff is wonderful I would recommend this restuarant. It is also good for a date since the atmosphere is quaint.

Cons: food, staff, very nice, large portions

Best Indian Food in Atlanta

by yummyinmytummy80

This is by far the best Indian food I have eaten in Atlanta. Surprisingly, inspite of there being so many Indian restaurants in Atlanta, none of them are really up to par. Places like Bombay Grill are way overrated. Santoor is definitely better than all of them. It is a clean, cozy and well decorated place but not cramped and overly crowded. The food is awesome, especially the tadka dal (lentil soup with spices), matar paneer, chicken bhuna and chicken tikka masala. I would recommend going a-la-carte instead of the buffet. I cannot say enough about the hosts.. their warmth and hospitality take you straight back to the roadside dhabas of India. If you're an Indian food lover, make sure you go here. Its worth the trip!

Pros: Good Value, Parking, Decor & Ambience

Cons: Not well advertised

Awesome!!!!

by chk_please

I can't say enough about this place!!! The best Indian restaurant you will find in Atlanta. The owner is very friendly and the food is out of this world. My recommendations - try chicken bhuna, matar paneer or chicken tikka masala. And if you miss mom's homemade dal (lentil soup), this is the place to go! The lunch buffet is good but I prefer the dinner. Ask the owner if you like your food a little more/less spicy. Btw, I've tried at least 5 different Indian restaurants in Atlanta, including some of the ones that top the Citysearch 'best of' list. Now I don't want to try another Indian restaurant.

Pros: Tasty food, Friendly atmosphere, Parking

Authentic Indian Food

by flyer25

The last review made me to visit this restaurant and from then whenever I visit Atlanta I always have my dinner at this place. The food is authentic and I loved its 'vegetable chat' and 'Malai kofta'. If you feel something to drink try indian masala tea. Restaurant owner was friendly and very conscious about customer service.

Pros: Great Food, A+ in customer servic

Refreshing Experience

This was the second time I had Indian food. The first was less than memorable. Some friends invited me to Santoor and I was so glad I went. The atmosphere was warm and friendly. The owner was very personable. The food was excellent and plentiful. I am looking for a reason to go back again and again!

Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Service

Superb

by manuk

Santoor is definitely one of the best Indian restaurants in town. The food was wonderful as everything came out of the kitchen freshly cooked, nice and hot, and exceptionally very tasteful....had just the right amount of spices to it. Not to mention, I also received excellent service as the management not only was very respectful and courteous, but also took the time out to get to know me and then remembered me the next time I walked into Santoor again.....and each time the great service and excellent food was consistent. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who wants to enjoy great Indian food.

Pros: Great Service, Excellent Food, Good variety

Excellent Food and Wonderful service

by arvindraman

This hidden treasure in Atlanta is the place to go to enjoy good quality Indian food. When I say "quality," I refer to authenticity, fresh ingredients, a perfect blend in the use of spices, which is a major feature of Indian food, and quantity.
The service has always been excellent and the family ownership gives its unique charm that is hard to find.
Go with a group so you can sample several dishes including the chicken makhni, lamb vindaloo, tandoori chicken, and Biryani.
I highly recommend this restaurant to food connoisseurs here & beyond.

Pros: Excellent, Good Quality, Great Service

Santoor food is really good and delicious. Living in US as a single hard working man at end of the day when you come home you need good home food. Santoor make you feel home and food like your mom made. Santoor buffet is really good with a lot of varieties. Food is so delicious that if you full you still want to eat more and more. I would highly recommend Santoor for best food.

the best indian food around

by bar

This nice family run restaurant is one of the best in Atlanta. The food, served the way you want it, is always served with a smile. I would take out more often but find that this is probably the best decorated Indian restaurant in town. The food tastes authentic and the owners always take special requests. My favorite is the Chicken Tikka Massalla with nan.

Pros: good parking, service

It's the BEST!

by moushumee

Among the multiple Indian restaurants being opened up these day, you know the owners at Santoor truely have the 25 years of experience from Europe and the US. Its a family owned business and the feeling is there. Everyone gets personalized attention here! Come back and they remember you and know what you may like. Food is authentic. Food is made the way you want it...British, American, and Indian Indian..just request how you want it. The best part is the interior, you have all these restaurants opening up with nothing special from another inside, but this place went beyond that it has stained glass painting, Wall pieces made by the owner's family depicting Indian culture, beautiful lighting. This place is awesome!

Pros: Great Interior, Service is Excellent, Authentic
