Dry bland and nothing special. Maybe I should give them another shot because the first time was terrible.

This iconic burger joint in the heart of little 5 is a mecca for the burger loving folks around the Atlanta area. Best burger in atlanta hands down is the Double bypass burger with a side of tots. Every gooey bite of this debaucherous

Although I've been to this Vortex a few times, and in the past have had good service with better-than-average bar food, I had to give only one star due to the recent bad experience I had there.\r

Just moving to GA I was excited to finally get the chance to visit the famous Vortex! I was a little upset that my 14 year old son wasn't able to join me since he would have LOVED the awesome enviroment. The place was packed but there

This is a very cool bar and grill in L5P. They hold a bike night every Thursday night in the parking lot that has a huge turnout. Their burgers are awesome along with just about every other thing on the menu. I just wish they applied the same no smoking inside rules as most Georgia restaurants do now.

the Vortex never disappoints! If you're a burger junkie and are open to trying something new - check out the Vortex.

Wonder what a burger with peanut butter, fried bananas and bacon on top tastes like? try the Elvis burger! a side of crispy plump tater tots and an enormous selection of beers from around the world will make your day any day of the week.

I have to confess... I never order a burger at the Vortex. And I know, in the Burger Capital of America (Wall St Journal said it, not me) this is one of THE spots for a proper Atlanta hamburger.

But I always sub chicken at the Vortex, specifically with the Big Fat Jerk (now called the Rajin-Cajun) because the burgers are a little bit too big. I wish they'd take a cue from George's and offer two sizes of burgers. Plus my thought is that if I'm going to order something gooey, cheesy, slathered in sauce and difficult to eat.... I would rather it NOT be ground beef. That just makes it into a giant mess that makes holding on to the burger more of a priority than actually eating it.

The array of burger variations--that include the sloppy likes of guac, bananas, teriyaki glaze, chili, pesto sauce, etc--just seem to go better with (gasp) chicken. Regardless on the beef vs veggie vs bison vs chicken debate, I give universal kudos for the best tator tots in the city, and for carrying Magic Hat beer on draft.

Pros: Flavor combos seem to work better with chicken.

Cons: Burgers only come in one (large) size.

My wife and I drive over 30 minutes to go to the Vortex, and we were Not let down. I can see why they were voted #1 burger in Atlanta. Everyone talked about how RUDE the are, NOT the experience that we had the server could not have been nicer, great easy going staff welcome you with open arms. I ate the Coronary Bypass Burger, just the innovation to put a fried egg on a cheese burger, is Awesome. A wide variety of food, but so many burgers to pick from. We ate the Cheesy Cheddar balls as an app, man the were great. I can see why this is a staple of the city, we will return again soon. DO yourself a favor, take in the Vortex, it's worth it.

Here is a summary of issues we have had since being signed up with the services from City Search.

Dishonest about how services are billed.

-I was given a different impression of how the site operates after talking to the citysearch employee for over 2 hours. I was given the impression that the site made income from adds placed by larger companies in the form of banner adds or featured sections. I have been involved with several different sites and they offer free advertisements and paid advertisements if you want a banner or bigger adds.

-Their was about 1-2 hours of conversation before the signup agreement where there was no mention of the service costing anything. Then during the signup process I was abruptly asked for my credit card information and was told the service would be $10/month, which is no problem, "with an investment of $1000/month." That's when I immediately stated that I can't afford this. Instead of looking out for the interest of me the customer, she was more intent on making a sale. She then replied that it is only a limit. She stated that "it is $1000 at a dollar a click, but if 1000 people contact you then it's worth every dollar." This statement would further imply that $1=1 contact. I at this point was under the understanding that the "Click" that was discussed earlier was in reference to clicking the link for contact information.. With this in conjunction of the possible number of people in Portland looking for a makeup artist for a wedding, I was under the impression I would be looking at $20-$50 a month. In actuality the service entails $1 per profile view not a dollar per click. If this was described and explained correctly I would have under no circumstances signed up for City Search. Not only is the explanation blatantly confusing but also borders dishonest. I would like to add that after finding out how services were billed I immediately attempted to terminate the service. Given the circumstances an exception could have been made for an early termination of services.

The profile itself was incomplete and poorly constructed.

-The profile was put together with very little care being a victim of numerous grammatical errors and obvious misspellings. Not only is this unacceptable especially for an add company but makes my business look careless and incompetent.

-Second I was also listed more than once, one of which was under the wrong category. there was one profile listed under Cosmetics which was correct, but another profile listed under Hair Salons. I am not a salon and have nothing to do with hair which should have been pretty apparent during the 2 hour phone conversation with the person signing me up. I signed up for one listing under Cosmetics. This looks like nothing more than a tactic to rack up profile views at a dollar a click especially when comparing the number of people looking for a makeup artist for their wedding with the number of people looking for a place to get their hair cut.

Out of the $1600.00+ that was charged to our business card for the over 1900 clicks we had in that 3 month period we were contacted by a total of 2 people. There is no way that many actual people clicked on that page.

Customer service.

Simply on an added note, In an attempt to sort all of this out, I had my significant other and partner in the business Jonathan call and try to work everything out. The gentlemen that he spoke to in customer service was not only uncompassionate of our situation but also very unprofessional. Very few questions were asked pertaining to how he could help and upon seeing that things were far from getting resolved he asked to speak to a supervisor. He was flat out told no. He than had to pry to find out who he could talk to for help. He then had to ask there isn't any one else to talk to? No supervisor or manager? at that point he was then told after a long pause simply they're in a meeting.

Great food in a fun atmosphere that only East Atlanta can provide. Only downside I've ever had here is when you're with a party larger than 6, they do not split checks...no matter what. It doesn't seem that bad until you are faced with the challenge of doing it yourself. They ask that you write down which items on the check you had, figure out the tax, and then pay with cash or card. It's 2009 and comupter systems do amazing things nowaways with the push of a single button, such as split checks. I was a server and I know it's possible. 5 star rating comes when I can split a check. Other than that it's all good!

I love the vortex! Me and my boyfriend go there all the time. He loves all their burgers and I love their original veggie burger. I'm a vegetarian, so this is my favorite place to go, when I'm craving a veggieburger. Another secret: the tater tots are way better than the french fries. Also, if your a vegetarian, do not order the potato salad. There is bacon mixed in it. Overall, The Vortex is a great place to chill for lunch, or have some drinks at night.

This is absolutely my favorite burger place. They have a large varieties of flavours and choices of burger types like ham, veggie, and turkey. You like spice? Try their jerk burger! The crab is great too!

The Vortex is a high volume bar and burger joint. The food is great - there are even DELICIOUS vegetarian options and burger alternatives - turkey burger, veggie burger, tuna melt - you name it. If it is on the menu it is great. The beer selection is huge - there is something for any beer drinker, and stuff for those who aren't. If "outstanding service" to you means a server who is dedicated to your table and your table only, then don't eat here - or anywhere really, unless you are at some 5 Star Gourmet eatery at some fancy hotel somewhere. Here at the Vortex, busy waitstaff handle a huge volume of regular people who realize and understand that the waitstaff is (gasp!) human too! They are on your side. They want you to be happy with the food and service because that is how they make their money!!!!! But be realistic! They are serving burgers (the finest in atlanta - true) and beer. Not Porterhouse steaks and Dom Perignon. I've never had "bad" service at any of the Vortex locations. I've waitied patiently for good food and I've waited patiently for drink refills and shots and second and third beers - BECAUSE THE WAITSTAFF and the BARTENDERS ARE BUSY!!!!!! I tip them extra well for putting up with all of the people who complain about service because they are running around trying to get everyone food and drinks - not just you. (Well not necessarily YOU so I hope if YOU aren't complaining that you don't take offense!) I come back again and again because I get GREAT BURGERS, and GREAT DRINKS at VERY DECENT prices! And the music rocks. So, come expecting good food and drinks, and you will leave happy. But if your expectations include great food great prices, great drinks, in 15 minutes with a server who will kiss your butt the whole time, you probably shouldn't come here and probably should limit your dining experiences to more upscale establishments. Save the Vortex for burger joint lovers like me!

This is a great bar with a unique atmosphere and outstanding food. A lot of biker memorabilia but not just bikers come for the food and ambiance. Great spot to go on Thurday night if you like to look at different types of motorcycles and enjoy the food while your there.

This Vortex is better than the one in midtown, but that's not saying much. The food is actually pretty tasty. The wait is too long. It must be their trademark to have rude servers.

This ain't your daddy's Cheers bar. The Vortex is attitude on steriods. As you walk in the door ...of a skull! You hear the driving beats of Jimi, Janice, and Nirvana oh yes and Marvin. Don't get it twisted, the atmosphere is both eclectic and electric. In the words of Nirvana, " Come as you are", you will be greeted with a smile and a great black and tan. The menu contains the best burgers and fries. Ranging from a blue cheese burger to a avacado and perschutto cheese burger, to your plain ole burger...burger. Good times , good fun good music. Drinking is for the HARDCORE, rookies need not apply. Located in Little 5 points , it is Marta accesible with a cab station across the street for you drunks and an amalgamation of quaint shops in the area. They dont close it starts at eleven and closes at I dont know. Heck I want to go now and it's 8am. Yeah , I need help but I love this place

The Service Staff are Meant to be Rude, that is the draw to this Hamburger Joint.

The burgers at Vortex are very good, but the customer service is horrendous. I ate there the other night with my brother, boyfriend, and mother. We ordered a second pitcher of beer as we were finishing our meal. My brother still had a half glass of beer in front of him when a guy walked up to the table. He identified himself as the manager, said we had been using the table for two hours (in reality, it was probably an hour and 15 minutes), and that they had a lot people waiting to eat. In more words or less, he told us to leave. As our mouths were hanging open in shock, we had no response. A fantastic burger is not worth such rudeness. I've been a long time fan of Vortex, but we won't be going back!

The Vortex is easily my favorite restaurant in Atlanta. A lot of the reviews here mention how great their burgers are and its for a reason; the burgers here are fantastic and you have an insane variety from which to choose. Some people may complain about service, but I can honestly say it would take some absolutely terrible service (I mean, actual insults to my face or something of that ilk) for me to give up The Vortex.

Another great thing about this place is that no kids are allowed! So, no worries about your meal being ruined because some rude mom and dad can't be bothered to take their crying kid outside.

The prices are also really great for what you get and the decor is fanciful and fun (although, the Little Five Points location has better decorations than the Peachtree location in my opinion)

But to address some of the negatives in other reviews; some of the servers aren't the cheeriest bunch, but that being said I've never had any server be blatantly rude to me and I've always had quick and reliable service (and I eat here a lot and have had been served by many different members of the staff). The Vortex has dubbed itself a "No Idiot Zone." If you ask questions that can be answered by reading the menu the servers will most likely be annoyed (it's written on the menu). So, if you want a server who's Miss Mary Sunshine and answers inane questions that you could have answered yourself just by reading, then steer clear. If you want that kind of nonsense save yourself the trouble of being offended and go to T.G.I.Fridays.

Also, The Vortex in Little Five Points is on the small side and probably wouldn't be great for big groups. However, The Vortex does have another location on Peachtree Street that is more spacious, so go there if you have a group.

If you're in the mood for a fantastic burger and drink and aren't easily offended then The Vortex is for you.

Don't judge a book by its cover! This place is awesome! They have THE biggest and best hamburgers in Atlanta. The salads are also great! There isnt a lot of parking space, but it is free. They have a list of rules on the back of the menu that is pretty funny :-)

I have been to the Vortex many times & the food is always great They serve you quick & efficiently but certainly are not known for their customer service. We did take a group there last night & they aren't very accommodating to large groups. They encouraged us to split up or else we would have to wait for a really long time. I had called in advance & the first time they were very nice & said "no problem" just let us know when you have a firm # of guests. The second time I called they basically said that they wouldn't accommodate us & that we would have to wait just like everyone else. I understand that they do not take reservations, but they did make it seem that would at least try to accommodate us on the first call.
The food is good but do not go here if you have more than 4 or 5 people.

Pros: Great food

Cons: Not great for groups

.

The food here is amazing, and the atmosphere is just as great. The service has always been exceptional, but be in a good mood when you show up, because they're militant about tipping (and many other things...check the back of the menu). If you're easily offended, this isn't your place (as their website and menu will tell you), but if you're looking for great food and you have a playful attitude when it comes to service, this is a can't miss.

I wouldn't eat here again if my life depended on it. Food was good, but the positive comments end there. A few of my friends and I decided to try Vortex to celebrate a birthday. The waiter was very sarcastic and rude when we asked about items on the menu. We asked for separate checks and we were told it would be no problem. When the bill came, not only did we receive only one check, but the waiter decided to slap an 18% gratuity on the check for himself since it was six people although his service was horrible and degrading. Seeing that we didn't think he was worthy of an 18% tip, we asked for and spoke with the manager who told us that the tip was required and that he would call the cops on us if we didn't pay the tip. IT was RIDICULOUS!!! We proceeded to pay because we didn't want to ruin the birthday celebration. The manager took the money and the waiter very rudely said, "It better all be here." DON'T EAT HERE UNLESS YOU ARE OKAY WITH PAYING FOR HORRIBLE SERVICE.

Pros: Food is good

Cons: They treat you horrible. They are unneccessarily rude!

Well, everything is just average. The prices are cheap, but they should be the food is of cheap quality. The service, well deifinitely below average and quite rude. They make you feel like your bothering them by giving them your money. The place looks cool from the outside but, I tink i'll stick to just walking by from now on. I did used to be better. Not worth my time now.

I have lived in Atlanta all my life, but for some reason I had never visted The Vortex until today. I had the veggie burger and I think it was probably the best one I have ever had. My friend who I dined with told me she had never even tried a hamburger since the veggie burger was always so good. I chose tater tots as my side and they were crunchy & delicious. Definitely try this place if you are in Atlanta - you won't be disappointed. The location is great in the middle of L5P, so you can do some walking around to loosen the belt buckle back up. One word of caution - don't bring your kids. They allow smoking inside so they won't serve anyone under 18.

If you're craving a good, juicy burger and a good beer to go wash it down, Vortex is where you're headed. They have a selection of burgers that are a challenge to devour. Numerous styles and recipes to choose from. Even if you're a vegetarian, they have a veggie burger and even ostrich. Its all good. A huge beer list tops it all. Be careful to pay attention to their rules written on the menu. Service isn't why people come here, so don't expect to be pampered by your server. Its a great place to eat for fun.

I absolutely LOVE this place. Just so the previous reviewer knows it was the Georgia Smokefree Air Act of 2005 as to why you have to be at least 18 to enjoy this wonderful place. Outside of the fact I don't have to deal with little rugrats running around the damn place, they have a phenomenal liquor (love all the single malts) and beer selection. The burgers are quite yummy with my favorite being the Ragin Cajun but substitute the bison patty with a side of onion rings. Mmmmm. If you want to enjoy a NO KIDS ALLOWED environment definately go here.

I've been to The Vortex a couple of times with friends, and I guess this year they stopped allowing minors in. I don't understand why... so that kind of stinks that I can't even go in there anymore! What happened? Was it because of the pictures on the walls? I really enjoyed the food.

I've lived in atlanta for many years and for some reason have never gotten here before this weekend. My wife and i went there to try the infamous burger. The atmosphere is interesting.. fits in with the rest of little five points. I had the burger and it was pretty good. My wife had a unique fried monte cristo that was ok. but overall it was pretty good. and will probably go back.

just moved to the atl and heard the vortex had the best burger in town. i have to admit it was a damn good burger. i had the black and spicy-very tasty-and my side salad was huge. the ambience was great and our server was awesome. as a former restaurant manager-i loved all the disclaimers on the front of the menu and the "no whining" attitude about the place.

The Vortex is a must when you visit Atlanta. The atmosphere is very trendy and fun. They have just about any type of burger you can think of and you can create your own if needed. They also have any type of patty including bison, ostrich, beef, veggie, black bean and more. Always get the tater tots too! The prices are very reasonable. This turns into a biker bar late in the evenings so beware if that is not your thing.

It's fairly cheap, but cheap crap is still crap. Horrible service, dry bar food at its worst, and a management that is AT BEST shady. Yeah, big deal, they have a logo with a skull. It doesn't keep the place from sucking.

How this place is rated one of the top eateries in Atlanta is beyond me. As a bar, it's more than serviceable. It has an excellent selection of American beers. And reasonably priced to boot.

However, once you migrate from the bar to the table, it's all down hill. We ordered cheeseburgers. I wanted medium rare and my wife wanted medium. After waiting 45 minutes, we got dried out hockey pucks. There's no excuse for that. A place thats known for their burgers should never screw up this badly. And the place wasn't even that busy. And, frankly, even if they were cooked properly, they still wouldve been just ordinary burgers.

Our server offered to take back the burgers, but who can wait another eternity to eat? Let's face it folks, this place is getting undeserved accolades. Judging from the rest of the commentary, I'm not alone in thinking that.

Enjoyed their hamburger but I made the mistake of bringing children and an adult who was somewhat offended by the decor. I can see how people like it and will go again. I could do without some of the decor but guess it makes the place.

...this is absolutely the best place to go. Whether you are a "Beef: it's whats for dinner" person or have sworn off meat forever this is the place to go and have the burger you have been missing. The choices are incredible, from sirlion to black bean burgers, and from chicken to turkey you can have it all without worrying about whatever dietary preference your friends may have. Not the most romantic place, but it will show the lady in your life that all in all, you are a pretty interesting guy. ENJOY!

the vortex is the biker's answer to TGI Fridays....with all the "scary flair" all over the walls and the huge skeleton entryway.
the food is sooo good! there is more selection and accomodates vegatarians moreso than the average burger joint. their tater tots, fried zucchini, southwestern eggrolls, chicken fingers, etc are delicious. nice large beer selection too.
the service is always pretty slow, and the guy at the door is really rude - but food and location more than make up for it.
