Hi Ria - you need to pull your staff (lily white) off to the side and have a conversation on etiquette and treating all customers with respect. During my first visit (prompted by a feature on Good Day Atlanta), I actually sat next to you

Had heard great things about Ria's. We were disappointed by how bland and boring the menu was. Seems it is geared toward the vegan/vegetarian crowd and that might be our downfall. The biscuits and gravy were boring and was just pepper

Came here with my daughter for the first time on Sat., 7/10/2010. Heard a lot about Ria's and thought we'd try it out....after all, it was written up in the NY Times, right? So, my first experience there and I was not impressed. Unfriendly man behind the counter. Way, way too pricey and too many rules -- gee! I was charged $2.25 for a cup of coffee that is not that great. Oh yes, you have to pay with cash and so that means you use their ATM machine. Waited too long after being seated and was not impressed with the stiffness of the crew. Come on! Who rated this place? Are you kidding? I've lived here 30 years and I can get the cold shoulder at any local cheap, divey restaurant. The pancakes were good though! Will not be coming back.

I was skeptical since Atlanta is not the food capital of the world but it was pretty tasty stuff and the staff seemed nice enough to us. Its a small place so I might avoid it on the weekends.. Awesome Grits.

What can I say , this is a great spot. , we got there a lot for brunch.. I have their fish & grits.. it is very good.. My partner has the bluebird breakfast plate.. I can say the food is priced very reasonable.. the service is excellent... which carries much weight for a me.. I don't care how good the food is, if your service sucks then it does not matter. This place does get pretty crowded.. even during the week , but its worth it.. The menu is kind of small but original..

I want to like Ria's as much as everyone else, but the only positives I can come up with are that it's located on the still up-and-coming area Memorial drag, the furniture is cute and the closed-in patio is nice even in the winter.

Regarding the food and service, however, I can't be so nice. The staff is not very interested in their jobs or their customers, and there are quirky hand-written signs everywhere that seem to be charged with belittling their readers.

Although I understand creating the "no substitutions" rule as a precaution for busy days and overly-picky eaters, the 'flat-out no's' received when asking to get something on the side or in addition to something else are also 'flat-out rude.' To me, there is a pretty thick line between quirky cuteness and rude pretension.

After eating there 4 or 5 times, I still haven't had a meal that was earth-shattering or even delicious. Maybe if I could "have it my way" just a little, I would have enjoyed the food and service more. There's something to be said for tailoring a dish to your tastes when it makes the difference between a rating of "meh" and "badath."

Cozy little Ria's Blue Bird has become an Atlanta breakfast institution serving up breakfast standards as well as imaginative, original dishes. The "Bionic Breakfast" which includes tons of potatoes, mushrooms, corn and more, or great combos like brisket and poached eggs, and fish and grits are served to patrons nestled in diner-style booths or tables. Oh, and a little ol' paper called the New York Times deemed their pancakes the best in the nation. On the weekend, those in the know will put their name down on the clipboard, grab a coffee at the bar, then patiently wait outside to be called. If dining solo on the weekdays, enjoy the friendly banter at the retro bar.

My husband and I went to Ria's during a weekend trip to Atlanta and it was by far the best food we had all weekend. We were doubtful of the title we saw when googling of Best Pancakes in the Country...but they were pretty darn good. It's a laid-back atmosphere and amazing food. The biscuits are quite possibly the best I've ever had!

This place is one of my favorite restaurants ever. They have amazing brunch and their cheese grits are to die for. My favorite meal is probably their country fried tempeh.

Good food - nice selection on the menu, typically food delivery, good location, quality and taste of the food is pretty good. Great place to take guests or a date that is off the beaten path.

However, HORRID SERVICE! We frequented rias quite a bit - until this past winter. It was FREEZING outside and though I understand the wait, the gestapo staff rudely shouting at guests to wait outside was the final straw. It was simply disrespectful and insulting. For gods sake, we are customers that pay your salary and tips! This is not a one time occurrence. It has happened to use several times.

If we must wait outside then at least put out some heaters to keep folks warm it was like 15 degrees outside and the wait was 30-45 minutes. Another idea is give folks buzzers so they can sit in their car until you call them.

We like your food, it is a quaint spot and I am glad you are doing well as the long lines show but your staff really needs some training on customer service, manners along with a strong dose of attitude adjustment, I am willing to try it again but if the attitude is still there we will be taking rias off our list and heading back to highland bakery!

Even if they management, decor, or music isn't to your taste; the food is to die for. I regularly get bags of their coffee for myself and highly recommend the turkey melt. Being a privately owned restaraunt, the owners get to make the rules, but as long as you're not a snob with an attitude you'll enjoy it. That means because it is a smaller place you must wait outside. Not a big deal because the meal is worth it! The charming wait staff doesn't hurt either. After your meal, you should try a stroll around the historic Oakland cemetery just across the street.

Oh my Goodness me and my boyfriend love this restaurant. When we first got there it was a wait, but that was fine because it was an early saturaday morning. We first noticed that it was really small inside and thought that we had to wait a long time. They finally called us to seat us and took us outside to eat in like a covered tent. It was cold outside and we thought we would be uncomfortable. When we got in it was nice and cozy. They sat us down at tables that looked like it came from a backyard in the 1940's. Our server was very nice. We both ordered our meals and it came out promptly. The food was wonderfull. The only problem we had was that our server did not come over enough to give us a refill on our coffee. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Ria's is one of the few places that turns food I THOUGHT I didn't like on its head, and makes it wonderful! Which speaks volumes for the food I actually do like!

It's the biscuits & gravy -- all vegetarian, yet light and tasty! -- that sold me. But I never really like pancakes before I tried Ria's light, fluffy, but not too thick, pancakes -- which by the way, were rated as among the best in the world by the New York Times!

Then there's the tempeh -- which I also never liked -- until I tried the Bluebird's marinated, seasoned and savory version. Ditto poached eggs and eggs benedict. Now I always get the "special" whenever I go; it's always something fresh and creative, like the banana bread french toast last weekend!

The atmosphere is casually beautiful, like an overgrown flower garden. Definitely check out the patio, with the calming fountain and grotto-like feel. One weekend I was dining back there and noticed Ria and the staff fluttering about nervously -- turns out a gentleman was asking his girlfriend to marry him right there in front of the fountain! Wow, what better recommendation?!

The service is what I call European -- perfectly fine, but not overly solicitous, as Americans tend to be used to (think Chili's).

In sum, definitely worth the wait!

Dearly beloved Ria's is a great place to go for breakfast or lunch. The vegetarian options are terrific and everything feels healthy, yet not at the expense of yumminess. Great outdoor seating.

I recommend the carmalized bananna pancakes to help you nurse a hangover on a Sunday morning. It is an always an interesting "5 point's" crowd at that time.... And the view of the National cemetary complete's the interesting experience. The food is good, the coffe is NICE and strong, but don't expect the fastest service. Overall... a good place to have bunch.

Located across from historic Oakland Cemetery, Ria's Bluebird restaurant is a jewel! Not much to look at from the outside, it is what's waiting for you on the inside that counts!

Arriving on a Sunday at 12 noon, one can expect a wait of 20-30 minutes. The decor is simple with brightly colored murals on the walls and a collection of old local street signs hanging among the bamboo ?garden? as decoration. Dress code is extremely casual. Outside seating is a must during the warm summer months, although the patio floor accumulates large puddles during rain even though it is covered.

The table service was acceptable, only a 7 minute wait for the initial greetings by the waiter and once the order was placed, only a 12 minute wait for the food. The menu, which is posted online, has a wide range of choices, including vegetarian. The prices are reasonable, with the average being about $10 per person, drinks included.

The food is well seasoned making every dish a delight! The ?tofu scramble,? a deep bowl of seasoned black beans with 1-inch cubed spicy tofu, large broccoli florets, thick slices of tomato, rings of red onion and a dollop of pesto, was delicious! For a hearty tasting sandwich, try the House Roasted Beef, thick slices of beef piled high on a onion kaiser roll. Served with your choice of a side, their soup-of-the-day makes a fine addition to this tasty sandwich!

No matter what you order, you will not be disappointed.

So gather your family and friends and head downtown for a brunch at Ria's Bluebird Cafe. It is well worth the wait!

What a shame! We have been enjoying Ria's great food for months now while overlooking the rude, incompetent service. Today, however, the straw broke the camel's back. One of her mignons (tall freak in dire need of Miss Manner's and a razor) barked at us not to wait inside the store while we were waiting for a table. Today it was cold....and while we understand having to wait outside if that is the fire code, (I am assuming that is the reason---since none was given), we could not tolerate his barking his commands at us across the crowded restaurant. He should have come over and talked to us in person. To add insult to injury, he had the audacity to tell us we could buy some coffee to keep us warm. What a moron!!! Sorry, Ria...but he lost you some regulars!!

Went for breakfast on a Friday morning. The place was busy but not packed. We were greeted immediately at the door and seated. The menu is a little different than you find in most breakfast places, but had some very inventive and unusual breakfast items. The brisket breakfast on the menu reminded me that I had seen the Bluebird featured on "The Hungry Detective" on Food Network. I had to try it. It was OUTSTANDING. My wife, not as adventurous an eater as I, had the pancakes with caramelized bananas. I think I'll order that next time. The food was wonderful, the service was prompt and attentive, the waiter's blue mohawk hair cut was interesting, and the prices were reasonable. I will be back!

This is one of the coolest little places in ATL for breakfast. Smart inventive healthy options. Ria, herself, is a sight to behold. Another user, I think from Louisana, commented about the staff and patrons being freaks. I'm not a freak. Being gay, pierced, or tatooted, does not make a person a freak. What is freaky, are roughnecks(ab. for another word) like this coming into the city, and we just don't date or marry our cousins. Ria's rocks!

tried this place for the 1st time on a saturday morning & loved it. i had a black bean breakfast burrito sausage links and it was delicious. staff was very friendly and i was seated out on the patio which was heated so it was very nice. wait time was short (i was seated in 10 minutes) the only thing I didn't like is that my waiter (although he was friendly) never came to refill my water or lemonade for some reason, i thought it was weird that he didn't at least ask if i wanted more of my beverages, but towards the end as i was waiting for him to bring me my check another waiter asked if i'd like a refill but i declined. was strange because although there were others out on the patio, it was not full but overall this was a great breakfast experience and i would definitely return because the food was excellent. the parking is terrible but they more than make up for it with great food and friendly service and the inexpensive prices.

Best grits I have ever tasted. Limited but inventive menu, (specials ranged from Christmas pancakes made with eggnog to tilapia eggs benedict). If you aren't gay, pierced, or tattooed, you will be in the clear minority. Somewhat ramshackle, roughhewn, unfinished appearance, neighborhood, although in the process of being gentrified, is still questionable. Slightly expensive (breakfast entrees ranges from $6-9.25).

It is hard to beat Ria's for a tasty brunch with your friends. The food is yummy and fresh, everything tastes homemade. Plus, you don't have to settle for an "eggy" brunch if you are in the mood for something like pancakes or biscuits. My favorite is their breakfast burritto with salsa verde and a side of sliced tomatoes.

My favorite is their breakfast burritto with salsa verde and a side of sliced tomatoes.

Pros: Fresh Food, Good Coffee, Awesome Pancakes

Cons: Funky outdoor seating, Closes too early

Another hit from day one! We have been going to Ria's Bluebird for a couple years now and we just love it. Anytime we have out of town guests we start them here to give them a flavor for the neiborhood!

You can't go wrong, the food is always good and service very friendly. Too bad it isn't bigger so the weekend lines to get in would be shorter.

Ria's is always great!! They've got great breakfast, which everyone knows about so be prepared for a slight wait. They also have great lunches and a nice dinner menu. The only down side is that the dinner menu, while it has very nice items, is a bit small and still has some growing to do. Try the early bird for breakfast. If you go for lunch both the bbq sandwich and the prociutto sandwich are great. Great atmosphere and friendly staff as well. Under $20 for two people.

The breakfast special never disappoints, but what really impressed me about the Bluebird was the service. It's not often you can consistently get waitstaff to be so nice to you on a weekend morning.

Ria's serves breakfast all day until it closes at 3 p.m., so you can get up late and still get into eggs or biscuits and gravy. Pancakes and sausage will keep you going most of the day. Inventive sandwiches---how 'bout a Reuben made from…
