I'm in the process of searching for a rehearsal dinner location for my wedding. My maid of honor recommended that we try out Pung Mie and see if we liked it for our event.

The food was good, not the best Chinese food in Atlanta, but pretty good. The service was pretty average, what you would expect from a Chinese restaurant on Buford Highway. The pricing of the food was pretty average as well.

After eating we went upstairs to check out the private rooms for our event. There were two rooms that we looked at. One was huge (enough for maybe 100 people), the other tiny (for 30 people). Although the rest of the restaurant interior looks fairly nice, the upstairs rooms were really dark and looked a bit run down. So we're going elsewhere for our rehearsal dinner, but I would recommend trying out Pung Mie for a meal.

Pung Mie is located right off of I-285 on Buford Highway, nestled among a sea of ethnic restaraunts.

Its food is good enough to earn it 3 stars, but is highly over-priced. While it's authentic, PM just left me wanting. There are several other places I would recommend just on the strength of their main courses; but then, most Chinese restaraunts in Atlanta serve the same dishes anyway.

Where PM shines, however, is in their appetizers and Dim Sum. More expensive than Canton Cooks, PM does dumplings and steamed rolls very well. Their selection is varied, and the bakery just downstairs is enough to make you stay.

PROS: Fantastic appetizers and dim sum on occasion
CONS: Same flavor for twice the price

This place is one of our favorites for great dumplings-- fried, steamed or boiled! They used to be a small little hole in the wall in the same location, but we've been through their years of expansion, into an upper level, horizontally, and then through their transformation into this really upscale looking place. The food quality has not changed all that much. It's still good. Try their dumplings and their fried bread!
