Our dinner was wonderful. We went on the recommendation of a fishing guide. Patrick was our server, and he was entertaining and attentive.

We gave B Matthews a try since it was a block away from our hotel. Breakfast was above average and a decent value. Lunch, however, was another story. The food portion was tiny and overpriced for what you could find within walking distance in the historic area.

Local here and remember when B. Matthew's first opened. Love or hate the old owners, the food was much better and honest then, simply put. They did not pretend to be full of frills, or get your hopes up and fail to deliver. It was just good food plain and simple. The bakery aspect was truly something that downtown needed and now is sadly gone. The muffins and cinnamon rolls were to die for! Now it's over priced "fru-fru", trying-to-be-sheek food that does not suit the prices, nor the venue. The former owners may not have been the best in P.R. but the food was GOOD, simple, and cheap!

Pros: Historic

Cons: Doesn't Live Up To the Hype

A group of six of us happened upon B Matthews the Saturday of St. Patty's Day weekend. Since we expected it to be a busy time we knew there would be a wait. The hostess said 20 min. We went up to the bar to order appetizers since we were starving. There was a man behind the bar who took our appetizer order and then when asked what the soup of the day was said he didn't know and walked away. 25 minutes later we were not sitting and had no appetizers! We asked another person who said that no apps had been put in-byt he way this was when we found out we had just met the owner! Can you believe the owner forgot our order??

Then we had to make a stink to get sat. The only six top in the place was empty but not being cleaned for over 15 min while we waited to be sat!! Once seated our waitress was excellent, however, the food was not. Some of it was ok, but most of it was sub par. I ordered the fried green tomato sandwich at the recommendation of our waitress. It came out on very thick untoasted bread and had one tomato fried and then one piece or tomato and a piece of cheese and lettuce. All I tasted was bread.

After being sat at our table for over 20 min our name was called to be seated!! They had no clue what was going on here. While eating the owner came up to our table and removed an unused chair without so much as acknowledging our presence. Clearly he is an indicator of what is wrong with this place.

This is a two thumbs down for sure!

A group of 6 of us stopped in at lunch time. The hostess told us it would be a 20-30 minute wait, which is fine. We were hungry so we sat at the bar. After flagging down what we thought was the bartender (and flagging down was a MASSIVE effort) we placed 2 appetizer orders while we waited to be seated. After 45 minutes we still had not been seated or got the appetizers. It turned out the person who took our order was the owner and he forgot to place it.

After 1 hour we were seated, and so as to not make this review too long, 3 of the 6 of us did not like their food, while the other 3 liked it a good amount.

A funny story - They were so inept at managing the place, 20 minutes after we were seated they called our name to be seated again and had no idea what was going on. With so many other places to go in that area, this is definitely a place to be avoided.

Pros: chicken quasadillas were fairly good

Cons: Inept owner, bad food, SLOW to be seated

A very clean, warm casual eatery in an interesting, historic building. Good service, reasonably priced meals. Comfort food. Superb management. Great Bloody Marys with brunch.

wine and waiter were fine; the food was greasy, poorly seasoned, or just wrong. Langoustine dumplings arrived floating in, oozing, and dripping grease. The deconstructed salad wasn't, rather just a pile of bib lettuce drenched with creamy italian dressing on one side of a plate, opposite three anchovy fillets. The tiny scallops in my entree topped with fried chard, floated in a sea of butter, cream and limp risotto. No wine could cut through that amount of fat, nor could those delicate scallops.

What's more troubling, is that no one seemed to care that plate after plate of food were being returned to the kitchen uneaten. That in itself is a sign of a bad restaurant, not a class act.

Pros: historic district location

Cons: food, price

with the recent addition of an extremely creative and deliscious dinner menu nd an adventurous wine this downtown eatery has taken a big step to becoming what the new owners have dreamed of... a success story. the service is spectacular even during the busy breakfasts and crazy luches and the athmosphere is wonderful at night when the lights are down low and candles light up this old building. this is a dont miss for anyone visiting savannah or anyone who lives in savannah and hasn't been.

Pros: food, ambience, knowledgable service staff and on premise owner

Cons: portions at dinner are too much. i cant beleive i said that, crowded during the lunch rush

.

Please disregard previous comments about the rude owners because they have been replaced by experienced restaurant owners/mgrs with great customer service standards. The food is still great (even better). A perfect choice for breakfast or lunch when in Savannah.

Pros: Great Atmosphere, Great Food

We arrived there about 3 weeks ago, walked up to eat outside where a couple others were, and the guy working there (or the owner- sho knows?) just snatched the chairs up in front of us. When asked if he was closing now, he said he closes whenever he feels like it, and we have to go inside for service. A bit abrupt and rude for my taste...

I thought this would be a good choice for lunch, but that "it" factor was missing. The service was horrible. The waiter took our order, dropped of our sandwiches, and when we asked where the chips were, he said they were up front and we should get them ourselves. There were no drink refills, and the server decided that since there were 6, he would add on a 18-20% service charge.
