I am a huge fan of Indian food. My favorites are Rose of India & Viceroy. Tonight, I thought I'd try Raja. What a mistake! The food was terrible. I ordered Lamb Tikka Masala (My favorite dish usually) and Chicken Madras. Both dishes were inedible. I cannot even begin to express how disappointed I am. Next time, I will exert a bit more effort to drive to Perimeter or Peachtree Industrial for a high quality, authentic meal.

Pros: Convenient pickup for takeout order

Cons: Worst Indian food in Atlanta

.

My husband introduced me to Raja in Midtown Atlanta when we were dating (@ 17 yrs ago!) and it's srtill both our favorite restaurant and worth the drive from Alpharetta. Try the lamb Pasanda or Chicken Tikka Masala. Their naan is wonderful and their Chicken Kasmiri is truly mouth-watering. I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about- I am baffled. The owners are nice and the atmosphere is like any other Indian restaurant...I go there for the food!!!!! Yum...I'm getting hungry. Trust me...you won't be disapointed!

I've been going here for 27 years. This Indian food is the best. The Tandoori is delicious. The Naan Bread is great. The Lamb Korma is excellent. I have taken a number of guests here and they all love it.

THIS PLACE IS ONLY FOR THE DESPARATE. JUST AWFUL. THE SHIMRP SAAG AND CHICKEN MASALA, THE GARLIC NAAN BREAD, THE APETIZERS, ALL TERRIABLE. EVEN THE MANGO JUICE WAS BAD. NEVER AGAIN. WE DROVE FROM DULUTH BECAUSE POONA WAS NOT OPEN YET. HUGE MISTAKE.

POONA ON PLEASANT HILL IS 10xS BETTER..

I had lunch here the other day, and to be honest, it was mainly the $7.99 special that caught my attention. Don't bother! You get what you pay for. The lunch special came with some type of nondescript soup. I honestly can't tell you what it was, but it had veggies in it. I chose the lamb kebab for entree (there are 10 or so to choose from) and was sadly dissapointed. The plate came with a pear sized samosa, that had just about 2 tablespoons of potato stuffing in it, a pile of recycled frozen veggies from last night's dinner with a little curry sauce and the kebab...two pieces of overcooked lamb burger the smaller than breakfast sausages. The nan was so greasy it was inedible. My rice pudding dessert was slammed onto the table five minutes after the meal arrived, so I knew they were done with me.
The best part of the meal was the order of papadams I began with...the two chutneys served with them were delightful...I was so hopeful for the rest of the meal, but sadly disappointed!
Funny thing-there was a woman sitting behind me from Creative Loafing...she went on and on about how good her meal was...I had to wonder if we were eating in the same restaurant, or had she never had Indian food before?

Pros: nice looking place, must be better at dinner to have been around 30 years

Cons: lunch specials are horrid, entrance is dodgy from Peachtree unless you head to the mall

.

The food is extremely bad. WE had very bad experience in terms of the service, the owner came and fought with us to pay for the order which we changed, and the waiter did not take it properly. She called us liars even after I told her to take the $7 I have no problem paying for it. The snacks were very ver bad.

I love this restaurant. The food is varied and great. The tandoori is wonderful, although recently the tandoori chicken has been a bit dry. The lentils are terrific, and the yogurt dishes are a delight. It is never too crowded to get seated and the service is good.

i am indian myself and would never do anything to hurt a countryman of mine's business but these folks just have it all wrong ! i went there excited as can be and the only thing of taste was the beer ~ kingfisher and it tastes the same everywhere you go ! and the ice cream but you can't get full off of that !

we ordered the appetizers and 1/2 were burnt, the waiter did replace them but the subsequent ones werent that much better :( the rice was so-so and the kabobs not overly tasty. the icecream was indeed a winner but the lack of homestyle chai masala tea was disappointing and frustrating to an indian wanting a sip of home

i would say go there only if desperate

the servers were pleasant and eager to meet our needs and request. too bad the chef lacked the most basic skills.....

my friend i dined with was a white dude and clueless as to what the food should taste like.....

i guess being indian msyelf i have higher expections .

A friend and I visited Raja for the first time earlier this week. I love Indian food, and if you are looking for somewhere completely casual and inexpensive it is not a bad option. We ordered two dishes; the Bhindi Bhaji and Eggplant and Spinach. Both were tasty, but did not merit an 'excellent' label. I would recommend Raja for a quick take-out idea. My only warning is that as we were eating, one of the waiters poured the remaining water out of a drinking glass onto the table in order to clean it. On this account, I was turned off and my snobby companion snorted that he'll ne'er soon return.

Pros: Parking, quiet

Cons: The apparent lack of cleaning products.

I ordered the chicken tikka masala "not spicy" and it was rather bland, so don't go too light on the spice! Though I've heard they can be heavy on the spice...It was my first time for takeout - I will definitely go back!

Rajah is an unpretentious restaurant serving authentic Indian cuisine. The atmoshere is stark, the service perfunctory, but the food is great. Chicken Tikka Masala, all white meat, off the bone and served in a creamy tomato sauce was the winner for me.
Lunch here is an outstanding deal, with a beverage, soup and entree costing less that $9. I've eaten here on at least 6 occasions and the food has been consistently great. A good choice for a quiet business lunch or for a dinner steeped in conversation.
