The Scene
A recent renovation has given this cozy neighborhood spot just a hint of glamour. The decor is dominated by shades of yellow and terra cotta. A curved bar sweeps along one side of the restaurant and pizza-parlor-style booths run down the center. French doors open out onto a bright patio. Gracious, friendly service makes everyone--even first-timers--feel like regulars.

The Food
This is no-frills, Italian-American food at its best. Start with a loaf of fragrant, pillowy focaccia bread. Skewers with mozzarella and cherry tomatoes topped with tangy vinaigrette offer a nice alternative to salad, but would be better with perfectly ripe tomatoes. Fettuccine, loaded with buttery alfredo sauce, is the ultimate comfort dish; a dash of marinara cuts the richness of the alfredo. Individual pizzas with perfectly crispy crusts are the menu's highlight. Try one topped with garlicky pesto instead of the basic marinara. If you've got room for dessert, share a slice of creamy, New York-style cheesecake.

Key Points

  • Made to Order Pizza
  • Fresh Fish Entrees
  • Outdoor and Patio Dining

The Inside Scoop

  1. When to Go - The central location at Cheshire Bridge and Piedmont makes Franco's a convenient lunch spot.

Good food, pricey though

by Kristen W. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 923

The food is very good, but the portions are small especially for the cost. I like the chicken ceasar salad sandwich. Great bread and ceasar dressing. I stopped going to lunch because of the prices.

Oh Franco's it's been too long

by Shauna V. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 8,362

GOD I LOVE FRANCO's - seriously, it is THE BEST PIZZA I have ever had in my entire life! This is not an overstatement, it is that good, and you won't be disappointed. The inside atmosphere of the restaurant is alright, kinda lame, the outside enclosed spot is really cool for a date, but the pizza is what makes this place. YUM. So good, and cheezy and warm. I always got a cheese pizza with red onions and sometimes garlic on top, it hit the spot! I haven't been back in a while, because i live so far away, but now I'm salivating, so I may just have to get my Franco's fix this weekend.

GREAT customer service, wonderful food

by elmarki

Francos had a wine special, which we tasted, accepted, and had two glasses poured. We then realized we did not care for the wine. They took back the two glasses, did not charge us for them, and said "We just want you to be happy." We were! The food was wonderful, the service warm and perfect. We were so pleased and recommend this place highly. A grand neighborhood joint, with excellent food and a terrific atmosphere. Mangia!

Pros: Great place and grand service

Cons: None, highly recommended

by mikestrubel

This is my 3rd visit to this restaurant. What a delight, fantastic food/service and a great atmosphere. I would thoroughly recommend this place to anybody.
The waiting staff are attentive, particluarly the owner and nobody could do enough to please me.
I had pizza which was wonderful and such attention to detail made this a memorable dining experience.
Cant wait to come back or get a take away.

Pros: Great staff/food and wine

Terrible food

by rjc08

I am really disappointed with the food and service. I was looking for a good italian food, but instead it looked liked it was a left over food that was re-heated. I complained to the manager and but instead I was given the attitude of "too bad, that's what we have". My experience is, terrible, bad, terrible.

Pros: None

Cons: Terrible experience

I'm so surprised by "louinatlanta"'s comments. Great experience here for our group of 4!!

by tyf

Only one of us had pizza, but it was excellent (much better than Osteria's in my opinion). I had the roasted chicken, which was excellent. And the eggplant parmesan was the some of the best I've had (baked, not fried!). My husband had a huge pork chop, says it was best he's ever had. But mostly, we had just the opposite experience with the owner!! He stopped by our table specially, asked how we liked individual dishes, told us about some of the new entrees, & couldn't have been nicer. We've been here more than once & usually have pizza, but now I'm interested in trying more of the other dishes based on our experience. Definitely recommend giving this place a try - spinach salad was very different also, with an olive oil based dressing & feta cheese.

Pros: Food & the friendly owner & staff

Cons: Traffic out front, but owner seems to be trying to create some ambience

RUDE Owner

by LouNAtlanta

If the Owner would stay away the place would be better. He is rude. The food is good. The wait staff is very pleasant. The portions are small and the prices are too high...top that off with a rude owner and it is not worth stopping by.

There are better Italian Food stores in Atlanta with MUCH BETTER prices. Osteria is much better!!!

The seating is not in tune with the kitchen...takes way too long to get a meal.

Did my group have a bad experience? You bet we did and we will never go back.

Pros: Good Food and Great Waiter staff

Cons: VERY RUDE OWNER Don't go there with a group over 4 people....

Denied my wife entry with her service animal, in violation of federal law

by jtjathomps

Last week we were greeted by the owner who let us know we were not welcome in the restaurant with my wife's service animal. The owner ignorantly pointed out that my wife's dog did not appear to be a 'seeing-eye-dog' My wife's dog, which had a service animal vest and credentials (neither of which are required by the way) is small and alerts my wife to a medical condition before it happens. We politely explained to the owner that there were other types of service animals other than seeing eye dogs, but he did not seem interested and made it clear that we were not welcome. This is the ONLY restaurant in Atlanta we have been denied entry into for years!!. Restaurants can be fined up to $55,000 for the first offense for denying a handicapped person entry. We have filed a complaint with the ADA, and have several witnesses to the incident.

Pros: Not applicable

Cons: Denies access to handicapped people with service animals

Seating for 6 people was two tables for two and, they refused to give proper seating. Food was not worth the very cramped seating.

Friendly atmosphere, fresh pasta, good wine selection

by SGS123

My husband and I moved here recently from Brooklyn. Franco's is the only place in Atlanta that is as close as it gets to authentic Italian. The people are friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed and the food is amazing. The wine selection is great and are reasonably priced.

Best restaurant for realistic priced food that is excellent; served with personalized care.

by 19renrutphd44

I am glad to recommend Francos as the best Italian restaurant with great ambience and realistically priced food. Food is prepared after you order and does not got from freezer to microwave. This family owned restaurant takes great pride in making sure that each guest feels welcome. The owner and staff spend time talking with each customer to be sure that everything meets the customer's needs. If I have a question about how a particular dish is prepared, the owner or any of his staff is glad to share with the guest exactly how the dish is cooked.

This is a relaxing restaurant that does not rush it's customers and takes pride in pleasing each customer and making sure that everyone receives the personal attention desired. I am delighted to be able to recommend Francos. This is not a fast serve pizza house; it is a wonderful restaurant that serves a tremendous variety of dishes created and cooked with great care. You leave satisfied with the food and the realistic price for any meal. What a treat to have high consistent quality of food coupled with a very user friendly staff. We could not do without it.

Franco's: Wonderful Creative Italian Dishes and Pizzas

by GladysKravitz

Franco's is in my neighborhood. I eat there probably once every week or so and have for the past 10 years. Menu is always creative. More than just fabulous pizza - great entree dishes, usually involving heavenly cream sauces, pasta, and meat or sea food. The ingredients are fresh, tasty and consistently good.. Service is of a kind that one seldom experiences anymore. You are as likely to be waited on by the owner Kia as by one of the wait staff whom he treats like family. TWO THUMBS UP.

Pros: Great Morningside Location

Cons: None

You've always pasted it by, but once you stop you stay.

by atltaffy3

I've been going to Franco's for over 5 years now. And while the menu has changed a bit over time it has never disappointed (Please try the new Arriabiatta or the always good Pesto!!!!). The wine list has greatly expanded and has some fantastic hidden gems (MacMurray Pinot Noir & Cline Syrah). Service is quick & friendly. The entire place has a feel of family. I've gone there alone, with my parents, with a date and with my wife and have always come away with a feeling of contentment. Please go and enjoy!

Pros: food, atmosphere

Cons: parking lot is a little dodgy

Thank you for being the institution that you are. I was a child when my parents took me there originally for pizza. Since then over 30 years have passed, I have grown and so has the wonderful menu. I have taken my wife there and we enjoyed the ambience, the service but always first and foremost the food.It is superb and I was glad to see you on one of my favorite sites. I showed this to my wife and she just gushed. We will be there next weekend with Bells on. So if you have an opportunity to read this, thank you for being simply the best, in a world of redundency. SEE YOU SOON

Pros: Everything

Cons: Stop, dont go there

Old Favorite

by mparks

We had dinner at Franco's on the last evening of 2007. It's one of our favorite restaurants where we have eaten for the past 15 years. We still love going there but I have to say we aren't happy with the "new" menu. Some of our favorite dishes are gone...like the spicy penne pasta, fettucini al fredo with roasted veggies, and the greek salad is gone too (sorry the spinich salad isn't the same). We will contine going to Franco's but wish they would bring back the old menu.

Pros: Atmosphere, food quality, service, music, free parking

Cons: $9.95 glass of house wine, menu has gone downhill

Longtime Lover of this Phenomenal Restaurant

by neelyatl37

I have been going to Francos for almost 5 years, and it just keeps getting better. Their food is consistently excellent and their wine list is great and keeps getting better. It seems that other Atlanta food lovers are finding this place because the past two weekends that I have been there they have been wicked busy, but, and this is the best part, the service was no different than an idle tuesday night. bring a date, bring a fellow worker, bring a friend or bring your family you will not be disappointed.

Pros: Excellent & Consistent Food. Great wine list

Cons: Parking is rough but not difficult.

Absolutely the best Italian dishes in The ATL!

by duncanthewestie

My wife and I have been going to Franco's for years. We've introduced the restaurant's delicious food and warm inviting enivronment to all of our friends and family. While we used to live relatively close to the restaurant, we now live out in the burbs and never hesitate driving 30 minutes (and sometimes more with traffic!) so that we can enjoy Kia's flavorful recipes. Franco's is definitely one of Atlanta's best kept secrets.

Pros: Diverse Italian menu, nice wine selections, reasonable prices, incredible service

Cons: Sometimes it's simply hard to get a table (but that's how good Franco's is!)

Great Place

by rpansa

My boyfriend and I were visiting the Atlanta area and got on citysearch to find a great place to eat...we sure found one. Franco's is a lovely place to eat. THe decor of the resturant is very nice and provides an intimate setting. THere is even patio seating, which I am a huge fan of. The drink menu is right in line with a REAL Italian Restaurant. THey have a large wine selection. The menu has many different things to choose from, but I would personally order the nightly specials. The food not only tasted great, but was nicely presented...almost better than what the people on Top Chef serve up. THe next time I visit Atlanta I will stop at Franco's again!

Pros: great food

Cons: a little hard to read sign, but if you find it you're set

Atlanta's best kept secret

by citymama1

The food is consistently great, the service is freindly, no waits or reservations required - kid friendly - central location - Franco's offers everything a great restaurant should. It's not super-hip, and the menu rarely changes -but that's a GOOD thing. I have been to great restaurants in cities around the world, but Franco's has flavorful food fit to compete with just about any restuarant anywhere!

Pros: waitstaff feels liek family

Cons: decor could be updated

a hidden Atlanta gem

by rlamb

Francos is easy to pass by. It's in the middle of one of the busiest intersections in Atlanta. I'd probably driven by it hundreds of times before a friend took me there. I can't believe that this place is not always packed! The food is wonderful and the service is attentive. I especially like their salads and seafood dishes. My girlfriend had to find a place to bring her parents, brother, sister-in-law and their two kids, and we decided on Francos. They were very patient with her young niece and nephew. I would recommend Francos to couples on dates or with big groups. You won't be dissapointed!

Pros: never crowded, attentive service, wonderful food

Home away from home

by Vacilando

Driving by I always thought this place was a pizza joint until I stopped in one evening. The decor is wonderful...copper lights and lots of plants! The food is the most consistent and incredible that I've had in Atlanta. I hear that most of the music they play is by DJ Habersham who alledgedly works there part time... Don't let the name fool you!

Pros: never crowded, great food, cool menus

Cons: parking

The Best Pizza in Atl!

by rojam

This place has the best pizza in Atlanta and there is never a wait. It is a little more expensive than Mellow Mushroom or Felini's, but it is worth every penny. We always get the barbecue chicken pizza, it blows CPK out of the water!

Great food - good prices

by jpopphan

Franco's is one of my favorite places to meet friends as well as business contacts. The food is consistently good, as is the service. The only complaint I have ever had there is that the music at times can be too loud. Also, parking can be challenging at busy times.

Pros: Inexpensive, Intimate, Easy to find

Cons: Loud at times, Small parking lot

If you could look up "Family run Italian Restaurant" in the dictionary, Franco's would be the definition. Homemade Italian food, good wines, and FABULOUS desserts, make this place a foodlovers dream. The staff is friendly too! The only complaint: they don't have Red Velvet Cake anymore. YOU OWE IT TO YOURSELF TO TRY THIS PLACE!

Pros: the spagettii, the ziti, the homemade bread

Cons: no red velvet cake

romantic yet affordable

by skymob

Franco's features one of the friendliest waitstaffs in Atlanta and flawless service. The restraunt's decor is constantly improving - recent additions include a glass porch for chillier nights.

My personal favorite touch at Franco's is the music. Compilation CDs made by our favorite waiter are featured on the soundsystem every night. Soothing deep house courtesy of Ananda Project, Sade, ADNY truly make the atmosphere.

The menu features pasta dishes, pizza, salads and starters. I highly recommend the ceasar salad, focaccia, lasagna and bbq chicken pizza.

Pros: affordable, delicious, friendly

Cons: view from porch
