Great food here, the service was a little slow but waitstaff was obviously new. It's hard to fault a locally owned business for slow service - Good Help IS HARD TO FIND! I've noticed that it is usually the complaints that get aired on public media such as this, not any of the rave reviews. I think public media is used for venting rather than commenting, except for those folks who are "webheads." ....overall, good place for BBQ and great sides like potato salad and slaw. Nice family atmosphere.

Pros: Great BBQ

Cons: A bit disorganized

After making reservations for 17 and receiving a confirmation phone call from the establishment, we had awful experience at the Bbq. Waitress was friendly and tried to serve but we were told that there was a new cook. Our party was a mixture of adults and children as young as 4 yrs old. To my horror, I watched every single adult being served before all the children were taken care of. I have never in my life in this country had a dining experience like this. Adult meal was received and gone before the 4,6, 7 yr. olds were given their chicken fingars and mac'n cheese. It took 3 corrections to get it right, once my 4 and 6 yr olds were served any food. I split my dinner with the children which came out luke warm. I didn't dare ask to have it returned to be heated for fear of not receiving it for another 45 minutes. As I was up giving my food to the children, the manager came in and asked how it was!! When I explained the problem I was told it was because they had 2 parties there. Remember they knew very well to expect us as they confirmed the reservation. I was compensated for the childrens meals but we will never go there again or recommend it.. The one star rating is being generous! Oh, also several in the party didn't even leave before having terrible stomache pains!

Pros: new building

Cons: S-L-O-W service and luke warm food when finally received

My aunt and I visited Ken & Candi's BBQ for the first time today. The food was delicious and the service was great! We will definitely recommend Ken & Candi's to our friends and will certainly be back for some more of their wonderful food.

Food was decent, and good portion sizes. However, on a Sunday afternoon, the service was so slow. They apollogized our waitress was tending to a big party. The food came out quick, but then the waitress never came back to accept payment for the bill. First impressions not so great at the new location. Service and food need a little work, I would chop it up as a new location growing pains.

You can find across the street from Enmark and McDonalds, near the corner of Highway 17 and Chatham parkway, AKA Oggechee Road and Chatham Parkway.

BBQ was about 50% large chunks of fat. My first bite of a sandwich was a mouthful of pork fat. Yuck. Their sauce looks really similar to Kraft grocery store with less taste. They don't put the sauce on your sandwich and leave it up to customer to apply, which is fine. When you apply the sauce, you can't really taste it; but you're left with a mess of a sandwich with sticky Kraft sauce all over your hands. You have to dip the sandwich directly in the sauce to get any real taste. Seems now to make sense to let the customers apply the sauce, because you need alot of it. Also, the meat looks almost boiled, severely lacking in taste. If you want good barbeque, and like to experiment, this ain't the place. I experimented and lost. My wife and I couldn't finish the sandwiches and felt like we wasted our money.

**Update**
Response to owner's comments: You missed the point that I was making about the sauce. In six words or less I'll try to sum it up: "Worst sauce I have ever had." And, the same can be said about the pork, in six words, "Worst pork I have ever had." Sorry for not making these points clearer in my first post.

Business Response:

An honest review? I'm sorry - We do value honest reviews. However, in these commets some 73 words were used to complain that we put sauce bottles on the table!! (as do chains such as Woody's, Bono's, & Sonny's). We make our own sauces, and we smoke our BBQ in the #1 smoker in the country - Southern Pride. Boiled BBQ? come on now. We've been in this business for 14 years. Ken & Candi's BBQ - The president.

Since there move to US 17, there food is no longer as good as it was, and the restaurant does not smell like a BBQ business. Ribs were not fresh and chopped pork was old. It appears to me an microwave BBQ place now.

Been there three times, since it's near my house, and each time the BBQ was soft and mushy--never seen anything like it! One time I ordered the BBQ chicken, but had to take it back because it was undercooked and bloody--this also happened to a friend of mine, so watch out! The ribs are not bad, but you could do a LOT better at Sticky Fingers or the Rib Hut, without all the greasiness. Honestly the best thing they offer is the excellent, crispy, tender chicken fingers--get the delicious sweet potato or corn nuggets with it--and you'll be sure to have a great meal.

Ken & Candi's is a great little place on the southside. It is conveniently located next Armstrong Atlantic State University and Savannah Mall. The food is really good -- I love the roasted turkey and baked sweet potato. Yum Yum! The staff is very friendly and welcoming.

Ken and Candies BBQ is a great little place. The employees are probably the most down-to-earth, nice people ever. I love to come here for my lunch hour because they are quick with the orders and I always have a good experience. Plus they are very reasonable wtih the prices. So if you are in the mood for bbq-any kind, or just some good southern cooking I recommend Ken and Candies. They have great food and plenty to chose from. If you have never eaten there-I recommend trying the "corn nuggets". And please, try the sweet tea! I swear it is the best I have ever had!
