We purchased our home in Fayetteville, GA in December 2013. It has been a month since we relocated and have had to have the builder constantly come to fix one thing or another. I love the house which is over 3000 SF, but after living in it for a while, we found flaws caused by a rush job or inexperience or a combination of both. The driveway is not level which holds water after a rain. The concrete they poured appears to have been watered down because there are small holes in the walkway and a crack across the front. The garage floor has circular cracks as if the cement was chipping away. They came to sand it and it caused white powder throughout the house which made my smoke alarm go off, and the awful smell of the cheap floor paint used lasted for two nauseating days. The faucets are cheap and we supposedly had a "platinum" home package. The bathtub (jetted) is the plastic type. The windows (25) had no window screens and we were told we would have to order them separate after closing -- separate charge!! When did windows stop coming with screens? The floor in one of the five bedrooms has major squeaks which can be heard from lower level, and walking into the room, you can feel it is not leveled. The master closet floor and one small wall section is not level across. They do not include a smart panel in their new homes. Wiring for cable/phone/security was all shoved into a small plate-covered hole in the wall bound together. My phone jacks (three) were never connected, and quoting a major cable company rep servicing my home, the quality of the wiring is "cheesy". The attic has about a 4 x 4 space; no storage. However it does have the new insulation (sprayed) which is a plus. I could go on with other minor issues, but I think this will help a future buyer to go with anyone else other than Hughston Homes. This builder cuts corners and does not understand the concept that if you offer quality, your reputation will not label you as a "cheap and uncaring" builder.

I write this review based on my experience with my house, and hope it will be helpful for future buyers. Front side of house looks beautiful, backside is boring. Yard is filled with cheap dirts, very hard and not flat. Do not get surprised if you find your grass just sit on some metal, plastic, or wood pieces. Construction trashes are usually left somewhere nearby, builder doesn't have time to clean up.

Inside house, you need to check whether paint is good, walls are straight, trims have nails/dents/pops/dirty, etc. Also check attic to see if some wood pieces are just loosely hanging there.

If I could add $30,000 more to my budget, I wouldn't buy a house from this builder because not everything can be fixed. If one thing cannot be fixed, it must be a big issue and will bother you for many years.

Although my house has several problems that can not be fixed such as ugly stairs and waving walls, I am happy right now because I finally got a new house within my bugdet. I do not know if I will still be happy after 5 or 10 years. I do not expect the construction materials that builder uses can last long.

Let me start of by saying the home is beautiful here at lot 11 Shadowwood. Exactly the craftsman style we were looking for. That is where the nice ends I'm afraid. I'm a recent 22 year Army retiree, wife as well. We bought our home in Auburn as a retirement home, kinda our reward. You will be told no worries, we'll fix anything that breaks and you will prepare two list one at 30 day and one at 11 months and we'll get it within two weeks. Oh, you'll do your list alright but nothing will be fixed. I was down range and I call my wife who is in tears because she can't get these folks to come out and she wants the house done before I come home. Or they schedule appointments and never show. We are at FT. Bragg, NC and a 7 hour drive for her for no shows is just rude and disrespectful. Lately there is a water leak in the front yard. Called their emergency contact number for the plumber.. Oh, he's not the guy who did my home. Called the office got hung up on, left messages on the machine the lady at the front desk claims she never got, ask to speak to the owner and told that's not going to happen, list goes on and on. John I guess quit and Walt seems too busy to keep up. Your company gave us your word and we believed you. How sad your reputation suffers for simple things.Edgar if this is how your company treats veterans you ought to be ashamed. You have my lot number and therefore my contact information.

This is the worst built house I have ever seen. I bought this house in 2010. They had just finished buliding it and at first glance it looked nice. We didn't really know what to look for, so we didn't notice all the flaws. Below are just some of the things that I have found and am discovering new things every day.

1. Handrail on stairs was installed incorrectly. There are visible holes where it was installed and removed and now some of the screws just go straight into the drywall and are not attached to any studs. Handrail is also loose.

2. Drywall was not installed neatly. Studs are visible from side view.
3. Only one coat of paint was applied upstairs. There are two different shades visible.
4. There are two different colors of paint on the windows
5. Linoleum downstairs was not cut right
6. Electrical face plates in kitchen were cut to fit counter because they were installed incrooectly.
7. There is no padding under the carpet (carpet was glued to floor).
8. Faucets are cheap and coming off. There is a part to one of the sinks that needed to be replaced when the house was only a few months old and the builder refused to fix it.
9. Molding on the bottom of the tub and the shower in both upstairs bathrooms was not even put on properly and is coming off.
10. The drywall in the ceiling is bowing in several of the rooms,
11. Laundry room door was put on crooked and does not close properly.
12. The back door was hung crooked
13. The foundation on the house is cracking.
14. The ceiling in the living room is sagging.
15. There were no screens with the house.

There are about 20 homes on my street (Great Oak Way, Warner Robins) and many of the owners have had similar problems. If you are interested in buying one of these homes, just drive down this street and ask anyone here to see the houses. There are many of us who would be glad to show you the inside. We wouldn't want anyone else to make the mistake of buying one of these houses. They do not appear structurally safe and are going to require several thousands of dollars in repairs. These houses are only two years old. This should never happen.

The Hughstons built a great home for us. We couldn't find anything that would compare in our price range. Our inspector was impressed as well which made us feel like we had made a good decision.

This is one of the most unreliable builders I have every seen. The things in the houses are halfway done. Within a year things are going bad. The entrance doors are rotting. The walls in some bathrooms are having to be ripped out to fix a plumbing problem that if done right in the first place would never have happened. If you want a house done right don't ask this man to build it. He is in too big of a hurry and too too many mistakes.

PROS: If you want it built quickly he'll do it!!
CONS: If you want it done right don't let him do it!!
