Appears most of the responses are employees, family, or friends. So my response is based on my own first hand experience and those of my hunting and fishing buddies. The prices are well over those charged for similar items in the local area and this applies to ammo and weapons. Priced 40 S&W ammo here and then went to Academy Sports and they were $12.00 a box cheaper for a box of 50. Same can be said about Walmart being much cheaper as well. When I mentioned their "I will meet their price" comment posted here by one of the employees, this did not happen for us and we were told not in this environment with prices being crazy, okay, but $12.00? Well, guess what, they pay the same price per case as Academy Sports. We also tried to buy one box of 22 ammo and told we had to buy the whole brick with each 50 round box going for $4.99. A true member of the sporting community does not take advantage of their customers, the same people who help keep you in business. Is Chucks taking advantage of the local community, guess that is for each customer to decide on their own. Know my friends and I will not be back.

They don't like FFL transfers, and really let you know that. In stock firearms are badly overpriced, easily 20% markup over competitors for new (often even above manufacturer's suggested retail), and asking 'new' prices for used stock, which is why they have so many of them for sale (i.e. $525 for a used Ruger SP101 2"bbl, vs. $350 on Gunbroker or Midway/CDNN/etc). I've seen many of the same guns in the case or on the rack for years on end, often filthy with pitted barrels, prices never come down. Caveat emptor. Ammo is also overpriced vs. Walmart/Academy/Bass Pro Shops/Gander. They stay in business mainly because there are so few alternatives around. Prices for accessories and cleaning gear/reloading supplies are reasonable.

I have gone to Chuck's a few times for bait but went in today to see if they would offer me anything for a gun. Not only did they offer to buy my shot gun (broken stock and all) but I ended up walking out with a brand new pistol. Customer service was great and the staff was very knowledgeable in regards to all my questions. I had FOUR kids with me and the staff stayed 20 mins after the store was suppose to close to help me out. Thanks so much and I will be back as often as I can. Left off one star on my over all rating because there is always room for improvement even if you are perfect. Again thanks so much! Great experience!!!!!

The first time I came in they were pretty nice...however i came back a coupe weeks later and had the complete opposite experience...Maybe i just caught them on a bad day...but regardless i wont be back. Centerville Gun and Pawn literally RIGHT down the road...they were Extremely nice AND they gave me the exact same gun i was looking at in chucks for $65 cheaper.

The owner is rude and doesnt care about customers, the employees I talked to were not knowledgeable about guns at all. The guns are overpriced. Save your time and money and go anywhere else.

Those positive reviews sure sounds like employees...

We have been doing business with Chuck's for several years now, and have always found them to be honest and knowledgeable. Their prices are competitive with other local businesses. We have found sales at other places, but have never dealt with another business who gave the customer service that Chuck's does. Another post mentioned Sports Center in Perry - they have sales, yes - however, the staff couldn't care less about service. The kid behind the sales counter just stands there and stares at you, will begrudgingly answer questions, but won't go out of his way to help. Academy, yes, they sometimes have lower prices - but there is no service after the sale there. The staff at Chuck's works hard to take care of their regular customers. They understand customer service. We've only had one defective item purchased from them, which was no fault of theirs, and they refunded our money, told us we were the second customer to have the same problem, so they removed the defective items from their inventory and returned them to the manufacturer. As for the post regarding gunsmithing - Chuck's doesn't portend to be a gunsmith, it is a gun store, if you need a gunsmith, then go to a gunsmith. As for me, Chuck's will continue to get my business, because they've earned it.

Wanted to throw my two cents in: I have dealt with Chucks several times, mostly buying. Tom, Paul and the guys have been upfront and always ready to let me browse. When it has come time to deal, they have been fair and they have negotiated with me. Something I'd like to point out regarding other reviews is that no matter where you buy a weapon, once it's serial number is recorded as "sold" then it becomes a used weapon. You don't even have to take it off the counter; once you buy it, it's "used". Four stars only because their prices are indeed retail, but I keep going back. I trust them.

My name is Paul and I am the manager at Chuck's. We've been in business for 40 YEARS and although we're not perfect we do work awfully hard to make our customers happy. Having said that, we all know that there are some folks who will never be happy. If we have wronged you then please let me know and I will try to make it right. If you are a "jerk" about it then don't bother to call. Life is short enough already.
There are some things that you need to know when you are buying, selling or trading at Chucks:
We will match anyone's price when possible.
If we don't have it then we will get it for you, if possible.
We buy guns at wholesale and sell them at retail. New or Used.
(you may think that your gun is new because you have not fired it, it's not. Sorry) We will not sell you a gun that someone else has owned and call it "New". Just like you, if we really like/need your gun then we pay more for it. Sometimes we don't.
We have over 3000 guns in stock and are happy to show them to you and give you any information that we have about them. Sometimes that causes others to wait. For that we are sorry.
It cost more to run a brick and mortar store than it does a website. Some items online are cheaper but we will try to keep you business.
We have a full service Archery shop.
We have a full fishing department.
Please come by and judge for yourself whether we deserve your business or not.
Note: Unfortunately most people who are happy do not leave reviews, they usually go on with their daily lives. Thanks to those who have taken the time to share their experiences.

I purchased my Taurus .357 at Chuck's 20 years ago, had some issues with it early this year, went back in to ask some questions and two weeks later I had it back and working correctly, cost me $0.00, Same thing with my Mossberg Shot gun, prices might be =/+ than some places; just knowing that I'm going to get good service and advice and the fact that I don't have to drive far will keep me a customer. Thanks Clay...

I have dealt with Chuck's Bait & Tackle for over 20 years. They have the best prices and can compete with anyone! The staff is completely knowledgeable regarding ALL products that they sell and want to make sure that the customer is happy. Most of all, they want to make sure that the customer purchases the product which is "best" for them. Many factors go into play regarding firearms and they make sure that it is a "perfect" fit. I have purchased items from "EVERY" dept (from pawn, archery, firearms, clothing, boots even to live bait. There is NO store any better, ANYWEAR! Don't waste your time or gas going anywhere else, shop and support local businesses........GO TO CHUCK'S!!!!! Whatever you need, ask for Chip or Clay and it will be taken care of. Don't go to Academy because that papework they give you when you purchase a firearm COMPLETELY removes them from any responsibility of a problematic firearm. Who would want to buy a gun from a business who doesn't even want to service you after the sale?????? GO TO CHUCK'S!! You won't regret it!

This place is a complete rip off. You pay a gold plated premium on anything you buy. They do not negotiate whatsoever. Bought a micro subcompact .45 new. Supposed to include 2 magazines even called springfield themselves. So they magically "lost" it when in today to confront them according to them I don't know what I'm talking about. Sure well the only other issue is listening to one the employees tell a customer putting a pistol upper on an AR 15 lower is legal. No that's considered a SBR a NFA weapon. Be careful these people are about as useful as a paper weight with the personality of a cactus. Being very rude to my mother when she asked to look at jewlery they told her to "get the hell out" of the pawn shop side. Granted my mother is old and doesn't speak english well. That's no way to treat customers. Oh and they don't compliment military. Yet somehow everyone in there magically seems to have served in the service. Take anything they tell you with a grain of salt do some homework they will sell you on anything like a used car salesman.

*UPDATE*
If your planning on purchasing a firearm. Make sure you have someone I.E a competent gunsmith to look firearm in question over. Not your friend or buddy or the clerk working there. After breaking down an AR rifle I noticed several deficiencies bent retaining pin on bolt body, worn extractor pin and so filthy if this rifle is new why are there defective parts? Remember they may not tell you up front but all sales are final. Although my father had mixed experiences with this when buying a Walther which they replaced the store not the manufacturer free of charge. Yet they should not have a problem if your interested in breaking a weapon down. They should also know how to do it. We learned it in the Army yet the guy behind the counter sits there quizzically with a look on his face. "how do you do that?" I wonder where they dig these people up. I suppose someone who was to incompetent in the family tree decided to hire them. As said before shop around go to Centerville gun and pawn or go to Oak Ridge they are more hands on and actually have gunsmiths on site to help solve any issues.

Come on Chuck's....Academy is only 20min away...you need to at least try and compete with their prices!!! They beat you on gun prices, ammo prices, and fishing prices...I don't bow hunt, so I'm not sure about that...I want to keep my business local, but man; y'all make it hard!

The prices are a little high, but worth it if you are having a bow set up. I can outshoot friends with much better bows than my PSE "The Beast" that was tuned at Chuck's. Maybe you can hagle over the used gun prices, but for me they were too high to even ask about. Go to the Sports Center in Perry or Barrows in Butler for guns.

A friend from Georgia Packing.Org went to Chucks to purchase a pistol, while carrying his own. The manager asked him to leave his pistol in the vehicle or surrender it to him...or leave the store. My friend left. We do not support businesses that do not support our rights to carry, particularly businesses selling weapons themselves.

I called they said they had many of a particular gun and when I got there they had 1. Their prices are not that good either. They are about average. Maybe for Warner Robins they are good but if you are willing to travel and look around you will beat any of their pricing. I was not very impressed and I have been to many gun shops.

I have not had any in person dealings but I did want to trade a gun and the gun I have is still in the box and I can't understand why it was gonna cost me extra money when the gun came from Chucks to begin with. If I had taken the gun out and shot it then I would understand.

If you are looking for a firearm, Chuck's has the best prices I have found in this area. I have bought 2 handguns and 1 rifle from Chuck's. I always do a lot of price shopping around Middle GA and Chuck's always has a better price. I even have a friend with an FFL and he could not beat Chuck's price. The staff is friendly and the selection of guns and other sporting goods.

Need baiit or tackle? Chucks has everything from hinting gear to clothes and shoes. They even have archery eqiupment. They will work with you on payments with their layaway plan. If they do not have it , they will get it. It is in the older part of WR though!

PROS: Not a lot of parking
CONS: good service- lots of helpful informed help
