To the anonymous person who obviously knows nothing about how a boutique works....

The reason why many boutiques, not just L. Michelle, require customers to pay up front for a special order is because f the customer flakes out and decides not to pay then that's one more item the boutique must sell in order to get their money back on it. If it doesn't and has to go on clearance, then the boutique loses money because a customer thought she wanted the dress but then flaked out on paying it. Not exactly fair to the boutique. Many boutiques don't offer the ability to special order anything, and the fact that L. Michelle does for certain items as long as it's available is a nice perk.

I've been a customer of L. Michelle since they opened 7 or 8 years ago and obviously people are buying things if they've been around this long. Both the owner Lisa and the manager Julie are always polite and super helpful. The clothes are somewhat pricey, yes, but that's a boutique for you. They exist to provide unique, specialty items that you may not be able to get at your run of the mill department store. If you want $40 jeans and a $10 shirt, go to Kohls or Target.

I have bought a few things here and there from L. Michelle and probably will again but their prices seem to creep up just a little more every time I go in. They do have a great sales rack (40-60% off) but sometimes the clothes on it are a bit weird. The sales staff has always been pleasant and helpful. There are also some cute gift items like candles, purses, and jewelry available.

I have actually been in this shop several times but never seen anyone buy anything. Probably due to the prices. However, I stopped in to buy an outfit for a special occasion. I tried on a dress, found that I probably needed a different size, which they did not have any longer. They checked to see if they could order the new size, found that they could but told me once the ordered dress came in, I had to buy it. I could not opt to go with the smaller size dress which they had in stock once I did my comparison of trying on the two dresses. I could not understand this since they had already sold one dress in that size, why could they not sell another in that size if I decided to stay with the one I tried on in the store? Needless to say, I did not want that kind of pressure. To pay $100 for a casual dress that may not fit well, that I have not tried on, seemed risky and most of all, to be a bad business practice. No wonder I have never seen them ring anything up in there. To top it all off, the salesgirl is very snobbish. Maybe she is the owner? She has no reason to treat customers the way she does, as if we are idiots. I know where I work and I know where she works, and my job requires more brain power than hers. Plus, the clothes are over priced. Who needs that?
