Visiting this salon is a delightful experience in customer service, with a staff that has extensive hair and beauty expertise. Jeffrey in Sandy Springs has taken me from a short crop, to sleek bobs to working with my natural curl effortlessly and beautifully. He has his finger on the pulse of what is current in the fashion world and uses that knowledge to find looks that work for me.
The atmosphere of the salon, Jeffrey's many years of experience (and my years of great haircuts with him) will keep me as a loyal client for years to come.
I have bounced around a little during the past ten years when it comes to my hair. My main reason was time. I love highlights but I don't have five hours to spend in a salon to get them. I was always disappointed until I met Anne. She is phenomenal, fast and gave me the best highlights that I have ever had. If I moved from Atlanta I would fly back just to see her. I was out in less than two hours which is an all time record for me. I was then off to see Rio for my hair cut. He was a little expensive but more than worth it. He was precise, honest and gave me exactly what I wanted. I would work another job to be able to keep seeing him if I needed to. I am definitely a fan and would never go anywhere else.
PROS: Best talent in the city
CONS: Pricy but worth it
I booked a hair-cutting appointment with Jon after reading reviews on-line about his talent for working with naturally curly hair. My expectations were low, given my past experiences with overpriced haircuts by stylists who had no clue how to deal with my thick and somewhat unruly hair. However, Jon worked wonders - I will NEVER go to anyone else again! Besides being talented, he's also extremely nice and down to earth. The free make-up touch-up you're offered at the salon make-up counter after your hair appt. is a very nice bonus!
PROS: excellent service and products
Van Michael has a reputation as a high-end salon in Buckhead. They have stylists from all over the places who have trained in Paris, London, NY, etc. They charge $60 for a mere hair cut and you are expected to leave at least 20% tips. The quality of service and professionalism is fine but not the best. I guess you do get what you pay for. Appoinements are hard to make so it is best to make your next appt when you leave.
I have been getting my hair cut by Elmira for over 2 years and no one has cut my hair this perfect before..I have a very heavy full hair that use to be a pain to style but she has given me such amazing and perfect layers that even if I don't style my hair(time limit) and just leave some products in it, it looks amazing! She is so patient and does every cut with exact measures....I love her and her work is just AMAZING!
Pros: Friendly, talented, Patient
I've been patronizing Van Michael Salon for many years now and I've had many stylists style my hair and I have finally found my my niche with Nilan. i have never been as happy with a hairstyle like i have been with her touch. She has been the only person to touch my hair in over two years and I plan to keep it that way. Not only that, she is easy to talk to and she always offers me tips on how to get the salon look at home, between salon visits. She always lets me know when there is a sale, promotion or an event going on with the salon, being that I love Aveda products so much, and most of all, I feel like I have gained a true friend and I trust her advice and opinion on hair, relationships, and pretty much life in general. So next time you go to Van Michael Salon, be sure to request Nilan. She is in New Talents now, but she won't be for long.
Pros: Excellence in service, quality of product
Cons: wish it was closer to my house
David is by far the best colorist I've ever had. My hair is perfect every time and when I say every time I mean it. You can't get any better than this.
Pros: Best color you will ever receive
When I got to Van Michael I was looking like a hot mess! I explained to Nilan what I wanted and she knew exactly what I was talking about. My cut turned out better than I imagined. I love it and I've had so many compliments!
Pros: great haircut, relaxing atmosphere
Cons: distance from me, but worth the drive
I recently had a color appointment with Ashley and while I am happy with the results, I felt like I wasn't so much of a client as an ear. She talked about her upcoming fitness competition, her current no-carb diet, her short temper as a result of the lack of carbs and so on. She was very sweet, but I doubt she knows 5 things about me other than my name and that I part my hair on the right. I will probably visit the salon again, but I might see someone else next time.
Pros: Great reputation
Cons: People like to talk WAY too much about themselves
I had the pleasure of seeing Elmira today for the first time... She was not only beautiful but the nicest stylist I have ever seen.. My hair cut is not easy to do and she nailed it.. My hair is NEVER looked better.. I live in NYC and Come to Atlanta for work.. I will never see anyone else again. I am so lucky to have met her.. She cuts better than most my my $$$$$$$ NYC stylist.. I need to move back to Atl... Thanks ELMIRA for the great all around service... Everyone has already been complimenting my hair.. Thanks again and I look forward to seeing you again.. Will recommend you to all my friends..
Nilan listened to everything that I told her about how I wanted my hair to look. She gave me suggestions throughout the haircut on how to make my hair look salon pretty at home. She explained in detail throughout the cut exactly what she was doing and made sure that that was what I wanted. The finishing look was perfect to my request. I will be going back to her anytime I need a haircut!!
Pros: Very professional
Dallas listened to what I wanted and and gave me just what I asked for. My color hasn't looked this good in years! I love her and will go back again and again!
Pros: Best colorist I have ever visited
She has probably cut my hair 10 times in 2 years. I have complete trust to sit down and let her go at it. She knows me well enough to go for a style that is a little cooler than I might opt for with great result. The managers and front desk staff round out a very professional experience.
Pros: Full of Ideas and concern for my feelings
Nilan listened to my concerns about my current style and worked with my style to give me an awesome cut that got rave reviews from my friends! She is knowledgeable and thorough in explaining how to care for your hair and recreate the look at home. I was so grateful to sport a cut that reflected my style!
Lafe is an amazing colorist who listened to what I wanted, showed me some photos of what I was looking for, and then gave me the perfect blonde! I am now a devotee!
The whole experience is always pleasant as the staff is extremely polite and personable. Will be recommending to ALL my friends!!
Pros: educated and interested staff
I was visiting a friend in Atlanta two weeks ago, and she suggested I get an haircut since we were going out that night (and I had just started growing my hair longer again). I am not the type of guy who typically likes to spend money or time on my appearance, but that is mainly because I am never quite sure if a particular haircut really works for me . When I sat down with Nilan, my whole approach toward getting an haircut changed. She spent a good deal of time pointing out specific features that could be either enhanced or minimalized, and explained how all these adjustments would culminate in an actual style. It was the first time I really ever felt confident in a stylist's opinion of how I could look BETTER. Even my girlfriend said it was the first time she had ever seen me with a "good haircut," as opposed to the typical short haircuts I had always preferred. She really was terrific...
Pros: Taught me what to look for in an haircut
Cons: I live in Florida
Ok...take it from a new client that is hard to please - and not to "chatty" - "Dallas" was awesome. I was a bit nervous seeing a new colorist - but she quickly eased my fears with the way she listed to what I wanted. She then show me a few pix to be certain we were on the same page. As she performed her magic ... I really felt like I was enjoying time with someone that I already knew. Impossible - we'd just met. Long story short: I will only book appointments w/her from now on. PS: the hand message with Aveda lotion and the neck rub...yummy!
Pros: A true professional begining to end!
Cons: That she isn't in every city!
Dallas a colorist in new talents is so awesome! She has a great personality and made my experience very comfortable! I will be back many more times to see her! She made a lifetime client out of me!
Although I live over in the Smyrna/Vinings area, I decided that I would make the drive over to New Talents to get my haircut after finding out that my old stylist was moving out of the state. I have gotten my hair cut three times now by Nilan and couldn't be any happier. It is well worth the drive. She is very friendly and knowledgeable which is very refreshing. After having long hair pretty much my entire life I decided that I wanted a change. I was very nervous about getting my hair cut short, but Nilan made me feel at ease. She is great at explaining exactly what she is going to do and describes the products she uses throughout the session. She is great at figuring out what type of haircut is good for your face shape and style. I have walked out of New Talents loving my haircut and getting many compliments. I will not go anywhere else!!! Nilan is Great!!!
Pros: Friendly,Experienced, Great Price
I wasn't sure what to expect from the New Talent division of Van Michael, but many of my friends have had positive experiences there and I thought that I would try out an inexpensive haircut. My stylist was Nilan and she was incredibly professional in appearance and how she spoke to me. I have been to other stylists who ask you what kind of haircut you are trying to achieve but then just end up doing whatever they feel like doing in the end. Nilan, however, sat me down and I really felt like I was able to explain to her what I wanted. Then she actually gave me a great haircut.
She was very professionally and fashionably dressed and we chatted about current fashion, styles, etc and she seemed very knowledgeable. I have had stylists before who seemed more interested in gossiping with their friends than paying attention to me and how I am doing, but Nilan wasn't like that at all.
Overall I had a really great experience. I got a cute haircut and really felt like I was given service far above what I have received at other salons.
Pros: great haircut
I just want to say that Nilan is the best stylist I have ever had. You would never know that she is a "New Talent." I was a little nervous at first, ya know, going to a "New Talent" salon, but Nilan immediately made me feel at ease right from the beginning of our appointment. We sat down together and THOROUGHLY discussed my hair style process. She was very insightful in her opinions and suggestions. I had previously had my hair cut by several other stylists, trying to find my permanent match, but they all had just cut one sloppy cut to another... Eventually when I found Nilan, she shaped my cut so that I no longer look like Frankenstein and gave me cute bangs that really shape my face well. Every time I see her she is super gorgeous and she is really friendly and easy to talk to (cause you know that's important). She truly has a passion for hair and she takes her time to make sure that you are extremely satisfied, in contrast to other stylists that I have seen where they just try to hurry through the appointment because they have other people waiting. The best part is, the cut is not expensive at all. I have paid much more for way worse haircuts. I <3 Nilan!!!
Pros: My hair is ALWAYS amazing!
I went in the other day to get my color done and I left looking like a freak! Quinn said my hair looked great as she began to socialize with other stylists. I had no time to say I hated it!!! I hated her and my hair...so i went to someone else and they fixed my hair. This is the funny part, the lady who fixed my hair had just fixed another one of Quinn's mistakes!!!!! Small world?
Cons: Quinn Lamb needs a class on class!
My name is Monika and I visited Van Michael Salon in Buckhead last week.
I was assign to Quinn (sorry, if I spell her name wrong). She was nice at first, we chat for a while and then she asked my about my color. I told her I had it done about 4 months ago and my roots and my ands are almost the same color. I asked if I can have chocolate brown color with some highlights. She said ?no?!!! And that?s were I should have leave the place. Nobody ever told me that before. ?You have really dark hair, I can?t do this, maybe next time? bla bla bla? I was shocked. But than ? my fault- I decided to stay. She prepared two bottles with different colors. one for roots and onbe for ends, as she explained. After drying and shampooing I sat in front of the mirror and immediately saw the huge difference between my roots and my ends. But Quinn said ? oh, it?s only because your hair is wet? !!! Can you imagine that???????????? That is SO UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hello, I?m sitting in front of the mirror, I can see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That?s when I got really upset!! Not only she messed up my hair, but she is brave enough to lie to me????? She said that the next step will be cutting my hair. And if I?m still not happy with the color she?ll fix it. Yeah, I was very unhappy, thank you for noticing.
Experience with Kelly didn?t improve my overall experience at all. She was rushing trough the cutting. And 5 minutes later (when I got my hair fixes) she was running out. Oh, the end of the day, who cares that the customer is unhappy!!!!!!!!! I need to be fair and say that I like the hair cut. One little plus for Kelly!!!!
Ok. Next I?m back in to Qiunn?s chair and praying so hard to get my hair fixed.
She showed up with a new bottle of color. I asked ? do you thing it?s save for my hair??? she said ? That?s perfectly fine? Well, it wasn?t. Sitting under the dryer, I felt like my skin is burning.
She shampooed my hair and she tried to make me feel comfortable talking about salon makeup artist. She said that he was doing her makeup while I was drying my hair. Sorry for interrupting !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She starts talking how great my color looks like! Oh, my God, really????? I didn?t see it. My roots were (and they still are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) at least two shades lither than my ends. Lovely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She stopped one of the makeup artist (don?t know his name), explained my situation and asked him about his opinion. He said the color looks great. I was absolutely shocked! The Van Michael Salon hire really rude or really blind guys!!!!
And I was ?ready? to go.
And there is another surprise. Like I didn?t have enough.
At the front desk there was a manager (don?t remember his name). He asked me about my experience. I told him all above. He said ?I?m sorry? but I didn?t feel he was. Especially when he asked me ? do you want extra cash to your tip????????? for what??????????????????????? Excuse me??????
But that?s not the end of the story. I finally gave tip to Kelly (20% to be exact) and I was going to Quinn?s station to give her hers very well earned 10%. Yes., that was a sarcasm!!!
And what I see? Quinn sitting at the makeup artist chair and receiving a make up!!!!!!!!!! Ok, is that why she was in rush??? Is that why Van Michael salon hired her ?? Is that a rule in VAN MICHAEL SALON to put their hairdresser in front of the customer??????????????
Btw did I mention that next day was my birthday and I really wanted to look good? Well, I wasn?t. Van MIchael Salon ruined my hair as well as my birthday!
I will never tell anybody anything good about VAN MICHEAL SALON. As a matter of fact I will make sure my friends will stay away from your salon. I can?t have my money back, but I can make sure my friends won?t loose their money.
Pros: Example: best croissants in town
Cons: What are the drawbacks?
Upon walking into Van Michael Salon, I was a little intimidated. I have been to large salons all over New York and LA, but this place was huge! Thankfully someone greeted me when I walked in, showed me around and introduced me to my stylist "7" and my colorist Nikki. They took it from there. They looked at my hair color and texture (Graying and a bit thin) and came up with a look that was suitable for my face, but also that I could do myself! Along the way Nikki was very entertaining and when I wasn't being worked on I was massaged and pampered. 7 then showed me how to fix my hair myself and I have loved just as much every day since I left the salon. I look great and will definitely be returning!
Pros: Talented Stylists & Colorists
Cons: Very Large Can Be Intimidating
A couple weeks ago, I got my first new talent haircut at Van Michael Salon. I had previously been seeing a senior stylist whose name will remain anonymous who I had been very happy with but just couldn't afford anymore due financial pressures at home. And let me just say that my experience with Nilan was AMAZING--if not BETTER than my previous haircuts which were fabulous experiences to begin with. Nilan gave me the best haircut that for once really brought attention to my cheekbones and as she pointed out, drew people to my eyes which were hidden before. She was SO stylish and so professional--she has DEFINATELY won herself a client for life. Thanks Van Michael!
Pros: Example: best croissants in town
Cons: What are the drawbacks?
Let's face it. Atlanta is not the capital of style or fashion. I do admit it's getting better due to the likes of VM salon. Brandon D. has been cutting my hair for 13 year now. I always believed he is one of the best in the nation. The best part is that he understands me and the need for evolution as we get older. He's taken me through the punkier, multi-colored-hair college days to more "conservative" executive bob I require today. Even my now "conservative" do is stylish. I've never asked for any particular cut, he's just always understood his clients...no matter their age, personality, or life style. I can't even begin to count the number of times strangers have stopped me to ask "who cuts your hair?" This question has been consistent for all 13 years1 Brandon is definitely doing his part in making Atlanta more stylish. Thanks for everything!
Cons: price seems high because Atlantans are not accustomed to this price point/quality.
Let me start off by saying I am very very picky. I feel like I am spending my money, I want what I ask for. Sasha was my stylist and she was GREAT! She totally listened to what I wanted, didn't flinch when I told her how picky I am, in fact she said " I know how to listen" She gave me what I asked for and more she cut my hair how it needed to be cut, based on texture and the shape of my face. I made several appointments in advance before I left the salon that day. I LOVE MY SHORT HAIR CUT!!!!!. I had just got done running befor my appointment so I kinda felt out of place with my attire. But sasha made me feel very comfortable saying that several people come in work out clothes. I would recommend this salon and stylist to a friend.
Pros: expert stylist, friendly staff, lots of attention.
Khia is amazing! She is funny and talented. I came from another salon and they wouldn't give me my color formula but after one look at me Khia did the same thing...only it looked better. She really listened to what I wanted made me feel at home. Thank you!
Pros: Khia, Aveda, Trendy
Cons: Greet staff, Phone staff, Parking
Brandon Darragh at the Van Michael in Buckhead is the best. He works magic and really knows what styles will work well with your face. Also, a super nice guy!
Pros: Beautiful salon, great products, very skilled people, valet parking
Cons: Very expensive
Shannon Loveless is amazing with cuts. She is the only reason I come to van michael. its surley not for the phone and greeting staff (how hard can it be to book an apointment?) I wish I could get her to come to my house and cut my hair. Then I wouldn't have to deal with the stupid people on the phone, front door, or checkout. very bad service staff!
Cons: Parking, Loud, staff
I have used Van Michael for years. The girl who highlights my hair, Lauren, is FANTASTIC! I have not had someone with the training and talent that she has. She colors my hair to match my skin tones. She does an outstanding job. The professionalism at this salon is top notch. The ladies that check you out at the end are great, as well. Plus, Van Michael has these wonderful customer appreciation days about every quarter. Great time to stock up on all the Aveda products they sell. OH! the ladies who do the make-up, outstanding, too. Just fabulous. I will continue to use Van Michael as my salon!
Pros: Setting, style of salon
I have been a client at Van Michael's for over 12 years, which I think speaks for itself. They are a classy and upscale hair salon and, yes, the services costs more. But I believe you get what you pay for when it comes to hair style and color. The stylists and colorists are well trained and continue to work there for years while keeping up with the classics and the trends which, again, speaks for itself. They are provided opportunity to grow and improve and establish great service provided relationships with their clients. I personally have developed a friendship with my stylist who was in New Talents when I first started seeing him and now - married with two beautiful daughters later - is teaching others and attending shows for Van Michael's. And I have developed a close friendship with my colorist as one of my dearest friends. Not to say this is a requirement or 'extra' for Van Michaels, just showing how great the people are on a personal level in addition to their admirable skill and knowledge. I also love the truly provided 'extras' when I visit - the friendly smiles, the offer of a beverage, a hand massage and/or neck massage, the cleanliness, the clean gowns, the plastic bags for your handbag....all appreciated! The product choices with the Aveda line are varied for your needs and, although it's been awhile, you can receive a makeup consultation for free for the Aveda makeup. Great services.
Len T. and Aimee F. are the BEST! Highly recommended.
All in all - yes, more expensive but oh so worth every penny!
Pros: Service extras, multiple locations, talented, skilled and wonderful experts
Cons: Pricey (but worth it)
Lived in LA for 10 years and never could find a salon that even comes close to Van Michaels. I love knowing I'll have fabulous highlights in exactly 2 hours. Lauren is the absolute best! This is the first time in my life that I've had complete strangers give me complements on my hair. Plus pampering with the great Aveda products is also a huge plus.
Pros: true experts
This salon is way over priced for the ?lack? of customer service you receive. They act like is a huge problem if you are 5 minutes late (was even turned away one time) but on the other hand they make you wait 30 minutes if they are running late?.and they are always running late! Don?t think you can book an appointment and get in and out. Plan your whole day around this hair cut or color. And get ready to be pressured into buying over priced Aveda
Cons: Service, Parking, Over priced
ive never written a review before on anything. going to van michael was the best hair experience of my life. this is the only world - class salon in atlanta. every one is super professional and my stylist was flawless. his name is Royce and he works at the Forum location in norcross. ive refferred all of my friends and they are all completely satisfied.
Pros: highly trained
I just have to say that I never look forward to getting my hair colored. I have dark brown hair and have always wanted it to be blonde, whenever I get it done I have no idea what the end result will be... platinum or orange. I had my hair done for the second time by Quinn Lamb and I look like a natural blonde. I love it... won't go to anyone else! Props to Jolie's haircut!
Pros: Hand and arm masage... who does that!?
Cons: Music can get a little loud
Awesome salon, always a great experience! The highly trained professionals in cutting and coloring hair do excellent work. The atmosphere is great and they are truly focused on the customer. I always receive a head massage or hand massage while I'm there, and it's a good break from the busy Atlanta environment. Some of the shampoo chairs even recline and massage your back. There are plenty of staff members around to get you anything you need, and they all seem to take great pride in their work. I'd recommend this salon to anyone.
Pros: Highly trained professionals, relaxing environment, excellent customer service.
Basically this salon is like the McDonalds of all salons. The quality of customer service is absolutely terrible.
They are relying on the good name created in the salons former years and not too concerned with actually delivering a quality experience. The salon in Buckhead is so loud, noisy, and uncomfortable. They try and crank as many customers through the place that I often have to wait 20 or so minutes for stylists that seem to be habitually behind schedule. Not only do you have to wait forever, but you are also seated eye level to the rear ends of countless people walking by.
Pros: A handful of talented stylists
Cons: They don't appreciate you at all
Well, I'm going to start by saying that by no means do I exaggerate or stretch the truth. I honestly can say that I've had horrible experiences at Van Michaels. YES- experienceS. I went there once a long time ago (before they even renovated the whole salon) and I wanted full highlights. I told the colorist that I DID NOT want a color that would appear black or would only show up in sunlight. I have dark hair and I told him that many colors don't show up on my hair and to make sure that the color I pick will give me the desired light brown color I wanted. Guess what? My hair looked BLACK- literally not just black JET BLACK. So, they let me get it redone, but hey damage already done and customer already dissatisfied. When I got it redone, the lady was able to get the lightness that I wanted. I just didn't want to go back again, because I was afraid the same thing would happen again.
Couple years later (April 08) I decided to try it once again thinking maybe it was just that ONE stylist that was horrible. I went wanting the same type of lightness I already had but just a different tone to it. First of all, the lady was rude and sarcastic the whole time which completely turned me off. Second of all, she was so inflexible about doing anything and I KNOW my requests were not ridiculous requests. She was just being lazy and kept bringing up time and her next appointment. Well... if you know that I want full highlights then the appropriate time block should've been picked when the full highlights appointment was MADE... that's not my problem. I'm paying you so much money so I can get the JOB I want. Not a half done job. Anyways, so that made me really mad. Then, when I'm making so many sacrifices so you get done in time for your next appointment and since you claim you can only do ONE thing with my hair then atleast do it right! My hair was orange. I am NOT kidding you. The stylists next to us gave us weird looks when they saw the job she did. DO NOT GO.
Pros: Nice ambience since they renovated, nice haircuts, and good prices.
Cons: No skill at highlighting! Always a time constraint!
I have been a loyal client of Van Michael Salon for 18 years. I have used several differrent stylists and they always get it right. You can feel confident that any stylist at Van Michael can take care of you. With on going training, you can be sure that any request can be fulfilled. I HIGHLY recommend this salon!! I can only think of one point to warn you about .... book your appointment in advance. You will not be able to call and get an appointment immediately, unless someone has cancelled.
Pros: Excellent Customer Service, Beautiful Salon, Valet Parking
Cons: Appointments book up quickly
Tami is the best. She did an awesome razor cut on my red thick hair. Even-though I was late by 9 minutes I was still a person and was treated with-utmost respect. I will definitely visit there again in 8 weeks to trim my a line bob. Also recommend Spa to work at because I was new and looking for a massage therapist position. No bad reviews on that place. The Van Michael's team in near Virginia Highland's is the place to visit. Kudos for Tami.
Pros: Prestige cutting skills
Cons: Maybe just more radial area for Stylists to move in.
Being a recent resident of the Atlanta area, I have been able to experience a few of the so called "top rated" salons in the city. However, I have just really never seem to click with a stylist. Either the cut was a little too edgy/funky or the color would just be an unnatural brassy tone. I had just about given up, when a co-worker of mine came back a little late from her "lunch" with absolutely stunning hair! Within minutes I had made my appointment with her colorist, Jude. Although I had to wait almost 3 weeks to get an appointment!
The salon was very busy when I had arrived, but Jude made me feel right at home and really gave me one-on-one attention. From the first few minutes of our consultation, I knew I was in great hands! We went over some options for my "Fall Color," and I was totally impressed with our end results. The perfect mix of highlights and low lights to give my hair depth and dimension. Jude even showed me a few techniques to style my hair, although it never looked so good as when I walked out of the salon that day and I was just going to pick the kids up from Soccer practice!
AND THE HAND MASSAGE.....WOW! Even if the color didn't turn out exactly how I had wished, I would have gone back for the hand massage and shampoo! While my color was processing I never felt like I was forgotten about either. The experience was wonderful! I even made my appointments for the next year! Now I know why it's so hard to get in. Thank you Jude! Thank you Van Michael! You have a client for life!
Pros: Amazing, knowlegable colorists!
Cons: VERY BUSY!
This is a great place for cuts and color. I would recommend this place to anyone who value a great product and who isn't afraid to pay for it. It truely reminded me of a Holywood quality type place. The visit was a treat for me and a friend. I would sugest that you make this a once a month item to splurge for the pocket. The stylist are well trained.
Van Michael is the best salon in Buckhead! Iread some of the bad reviews before going there and was kind of nervous but it was great! I dont understand everyone talking about the problem with parking bc they valet for free, where's the problem? All the people I came in contact with were great and the stylist are definetly well trained. I had a great experience!
Pros: Khia (colorist) Billie Jo (stylist)
This is my first review on msn. I am so frustrated I had to write it. I have been going to Van Michael for at least 8 to 10 years, actually since one of their owners was a New Talents stylist. In the last 18 to 24 months I have been continuously disappointed. My stylist left Van Michael about 24 months ago. So I tried a new one?thinking of course that I would be pleased with any Van Michael stylist. (I am pleased with a consistent haircut and a prompt appointment.) I tried a new stylist who was excellent. He had been at VM for as long as I had. He left VM within 2 months. I tried another stylist who had been there forever. He was great. He left before by next appointment. This happened a 3rd time between the Buckhead and Midtown locations. Not only does there seem to be high turnover with the stylists but the greeters are NEVER the same and are terribly incompetent. I?ve had calls after calls confirming appointments I never had or had then cancelled. I even had an appointment cancelled only to learn about it when I arrived?and this was for a wedding consultation. I also have been double-booked 4 times in the last 2 years! I guess when you are new to a stylist you do not matter much! One time my stylist started another appointment the same time I arrived. If I wasn?t there with my mom for a wedding consultation then I would have walked out. I should have though because the last straw was that my wedding stylist was over one hour late the day of my wedding and forgot what style I wanted for my hair. I thought the $125 hair consult two weeks earlier was supposed to prevent that from happening. Van Michael: What is going on? The stylists still seem to be well-trained but the operations is suffering so much that this long-term client will never go back.
The second that I walked into the salon I was greeted by 3 people from the staff. They checked me in, walked me to the changing room, and waited for me to introduce me to my stylist! The whole staff was very friendly. I had a head massage before my hair was washed and a hand massage while I was getting it cut. It was great! I originally went there because they use Aveda and am so happy to find such a great salon with a huge focus on customer service!
After searching for the perfect stylist to work with my curly hair for 38 yrs I finally found the one! Jon Whittaker. See previous review. So I went to make my appointment w jon only to find out he had left. Distressed beyond belief, the receptionist offered to book me with someone else. I of course declined then the receptionist rudely wouldnt tell me where he had gone. Then they insulted me days later with a stock postcard mailout that offered me to stay with the salon for a half price haircut. Glad to know what I was worth as a customer to them. I threw it in the trash because its not about the salon, its about my Jon! Thank the heavens above I caught wind that he had left to open his own salon. Jon David Salons in the Highlands. I am putting up this review to assist his many curly followers to help find him. Thanks Van Michael but no thanks. You lost a great asset to your company.
Pros: They created an incredible stylist like John!
Cons: Too loud, too crazy, to expensive for what they are selling, overkill on every level.
syslist are to concerned with thier over paid selves! couldn't care leess abount making you happy............van doesn't veen go here anymore!
Pros: aveda massage
As someone with curly/wavy hair, haircuts are usually something I don't look forward to since I've had some bad ones over the years. That changed a year and a half ago when I came to Van Michael. Going on some reviews from other sites, I went to see Jon and left AMAZED at what he was able to do. Not only did he cut my hair so that it was the most flattering whether I wore it straight or curly (no easy feat), but worked to get my hair healthy so that it truely looked its best. While some call him the curly hair god, in my book he'll stay the curly hair guru for what he's done. Not to mention the fact that he's friendly and talks with his clients while he performs his magic.
Pros: Great location, the best stylist in town, friendly staff
I really love my hair, very professional, the parking stinks, but it's well worth the price. The place is a little crazy, but the staff makes you feel relaxed. Great experience.
For years I went to the same stylist and when he moved out of state, I thought I would never be happy again. A friend told me to see Nikki...and it was the best thing I could have done. She foiled my hair, and honestly I have never seen it better! She really knows what she is doing and if she leaves me, I have no idea of what I will do. I highly recommend seeing her for color...amazing.
