First I want to say.. Ive been a member with the Y for 5 years. sadly ive decided to leave there and seek another gym This Y on Wheeler road is seriously overcrowded. If you do manage to find a parking spot it will take you a good while to find a machine.. my worst experience..22 mintues. insane!!! It has become a grind to go to the gym and i already dont have alot of energy.also I dont like the system for cleaning the machines.. the same towel is wet from who knows how many nasty people. Its so sad. because the place was nice when it was built..but its not being well maintained. just look in the lockeroom, usually covered in water. noone seems to want to enforce simple rules..from drying off before you get out of the shower to no kids under 16 in the locker room. its ashame. I gave up complaining years ago. most staff are friendly but dont go the extra mile for a stranger. they have a evans branch but dont bother its small and always busy.

Same here... I went to Omni for a month...didn't like the atmosphere so much. Too much lighting and clutter. YMCA has more to offer...juice/coffee bar, nice lights, TVs, pool, bathrooms, big kids gym, and a track. Most of the people who work there and who are members are pretty nice and respectful to others' space. Pool park is just awesome!!

Bad news..this is going to be a doozy:
A year ago, however, one of the life guards, an obnoxious little shrimp pumped full of steroids, had the nerve to discuss my physique in front other employees...he did this twice....he was like, "Oh man..bla...fat girls..bla bla." Yeah, um..I'm 128, as if I'm or any other fat gigantic woman is not allowed to wear a two piece.
Ok, I'm 135ish :).

I finally complained about him after almost cussing this ape out. Finally, he was fired. He then went to Omni, where he got fired yet again.

The main director doesn't seem to do anything about EMPLOYEES misbehaving. The other reviewer complaining about the gym being too loud is right on. There was this [yet another] obnoxious and nasty woman who actually called me "a nobody" to me and to her entire class after I asked her politely to keep her voice down..since she seemd to enjoy yelling at the top of her lungs. The main director made excuses about this woman's behavior by saying that it was a gym..blablalbla..but that they would get their own room soon. The next day she did lose her job. However, I guess if she was WHITE and say, looked like me...she would have been dealt with earlier on.

Oh and- there are two fitness instructors who like to walk around and flirt with women at the gym. One is starting to scare me. All these two do is walk around..nice job. One is really unattractive with lumpy muscles..ew. The other guy was actually hot at one time..but obviously on steroids by now. Double ew. So I guess that's the other bad news.

Other than that...the new YMCA of Augusta is great!

PROS: NEW FEATURES...COFFEE WHILE YOU WORK OUT...mmm.....HOT MEMBERS AT NIGHT
CONS: a few more loud black women instructors, unattractive flirts/employees

This is a nice gym. Obviously the previous reviewer hasn't been there recently as it is kept quite clean and there are cleaning stations to wipe off your machines all over the place. Expense is relative, as this health club is no more expensive than others in the Augusta area. It is cheaper than OMNI (I used to go there), about the same as Health Central (maybe slightly more, but a walk through will tell you why, as HC is very outdated), and similar to Eve's womens health club (small facility, but ok for women only). Offers a large facility enabling you to almost never wait for cardio equipment (+), and the recent renovations offers more for children. They could expand the child care hours to open earlier (currently 4pm). Offer a juice bar and coffee. Soon the cyclists will have their own room, which is good for them and others so we don't have to hear the yelling during a good hard workout (ours or theirs). CHECK IT OUT! A little over a dollar a day (not much more than a family eating out once at a restaraunt) and you can start on your way to a healthier you!! Help desk could be a little faster in acknowledging people waiting, even to just let them know that it will be a minute before they will be helped. Overall though, a great gym.

PROS: clean, lot of cardio equipment, in & out pool, steam&sauna, large
CONS: need earlier child care, need organized fitness/activity for kids like OMNI

The Ymca was the first health club I ever joined. I remember I was a freshman in high school. I can tell you their gym is overall expensive and not very clean. I would not recommend them to anyone. They really do not specialize in anything worth paying for. What I do give them credit for is expanding what they off after I left. Not that it helped me, but they put in a water park and rebuilt the inside and expanded it to a track.

PROS: expansion has taken place
CONS: their still the same and they still have awful custumer service

This is a great place for youth. This place has all types of recreation activities and a gym. There are a variety of classes to take - gymnastics, baskteball, etc. The Y also has a number of summer camps.
