Yummy good Indian food! Lots of tasty food for the price. Also liked the Bollywood movies playing on the video.

Friendly waiters and staff.

Highly recommend.

Authentic Indian Cuisine

by Richard V.

The Chattahoochee Valley is not used to authentic Indian cuisine but needs to be introduced! Mayuri is a rare treasure buried in midtown in a unit once occupied by a Chinese restaurant, whose ceiling is still there. The food is so authentic that the local palate must adjust, but once it does, it craves more. The restaurant's price strategy is a wise one. Low-priced options for the financially cautious accompany higher-priced items that absolutely should not be made any cheaper. Both spicy and mild choices abound, even though the spicy South Indian choices on the menu are not currently available. You must have the mint sauce and ask for more! Spoon it onto your crispy papadam or warm bhaturi bread. The gobi (cauliflower) is a meal all by itself, but it is listed as a $6 appetizer. (You can have a satisfying lunch for about $5, in fact.) The bhindi masala (okra with onions and spices) was a great main course. I ordered it as a thali dinner, so it came with several extras that created a very full experience. In fact, what I took home filled me up again the next day. The only oddity is that the Telugu-speaking servers (from Andhra Pradesh, the rice bowl of India and an ideal crossroads between North and South, especially where food is concerned) may seem unsure of themselves when you stop by, as though they were not expecting you. If so, it's probably because they weren't. That's a marketing problem: If everybody knew about this gem, it would be crowded every night. Given that local restaurant demand will rise steeply over the next couple of years, Mayuri needs to start renting a billboard on I-185 and pay for some local television advertising during the 5-6 p.m. news hour, at least during the spring months. If so, it will prosper. Getting the word out is its only challenge. Open 11:30-2:30 for a lunch buffet, and 5:30-10 p.m. for dinner. Closed Mondays.

PROS: Spectacular food, plenty of comfortable space, and a full menu.
CONS: May be understaffed at the wrong time. If so, service may suffer.

Certainly fills a niche

by Shinene C. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,442

Mayuri's is under new ownership. The service is passable. The food is okay. The pakoras, samosas, and kheer don't disappoint. They offer a variety of vegetarian dishes which are done quite well. The meat dishes are okay. The quality of service varies.

PROS: beats driving all the way to Atlanta for Indian food.
CONS: inconsistent quality of service
