HELMET

I took my chances with Helmet's Loft Program at the Highlands location. I just moved to Atlanta and was intent on finding a good stylist here but didn't want to spend big bucks on someone (and a salon) I knew nothing about and had never been to before. I saw a facebook advertisement for the Loft program and called. They made an appointment for me with Laura Meehan and I absolutely can not say enough how wonderful she is! She was warm and welcoming, listened to my wants openly, and then gave me dream hair.

1) The cut itself is top top-notch. She was a perfectionist with it and it shows. I have long hair almost down to my elbows and she got it precisely even at the ends.

2) I told her I didn't want to cut my bangs b/c I'm letting them grow out (they were blunt cut.) She nodded, and thought about it while finishing my blow-dry and then suggested that i let her thin them out a little so they don't grow out so blocky. Another stylist would have just said fine and left it or they would have been pushy about cutting them.

3) My hair, after she styled it, cascaded down my back and was super-straight, shiny, and smooth. My hair tends to frizz and wave within minutes of flat-ironing it but it stayed straight and smooth like that for days!! (even though I went to a 5-hour-long pool party in 95 degree weather right after I left my appointment!!!) My hair usually starts snagging itself and getting a little tangly after a few hours but it continued to lie perfectly straight and smooth for days.

4.) She walked me through every single step I needed to take to recreate the look (and I HAVE been mostly able to--I think the last ingredient is her flat iron, which neither she nor i can find again)

5.) She was helpful throughout my session, talking to me about different brushes, flat-irons, product, etc. I never got even the slightest notion that she was trying to sell me anything--just that she really did care about helping me to make my hair look its best and be healthy. I have never been a product person. Most of the product I buy from hair salons turns out making my long, straight hair oily or heavy or hard or brittle, etc, so I have just avoided product for years now. B&B grooming and straighten are two products that she used on me (along with the tonic) that I bought samples of and will definitely buy the big bottles of next time b/c they do what a product SHOULD do, which is to make your hair more manageable/pliable without making a nuisance of itself. My hair retains its softness with these products and I can run my hands through my hair all day long without it becoming greasy or tangled from sticky product

6.) I have never ever ever gone to a stylist to get my hair styled (except for updo's, of course, but I mean every-day life.) I would DEF go to her and spend the money to have her make my hair look and feel like that again if I had an event to go to.

In short, if you're a little hesitant, or low on cash, give the Loft program a try--you will definitely not regret it. I can' t imagine how great the Seniors and Masters here must be if their apprentices are this good.

Go to this SALON! and ask for LAURA! You will NOT be disappointed.

I went to HELMET with a big group to have our hair and make-up done for a wedding. The people there were great. They were friendly, efficient, and did an excellent job on everybody's hair and make-up. I highly recommend them!

I start going to Helmet in Virginia Highlands a little over a year ago. Susan Kelley has colored and cut my hair every since. I always leave with a great cut and color based on my wants/likes.

I moved to Atlanta a year ago and dreaded having to find a new stylist. Then, a friend with really cute hair recommended Erika Audrey at Helmet in Mid-town. She is fantastic. I wanted a new, more professional-looking style and had a general idea of what I had in mind. Erika listened, made suggestions, and then gave me the best haircut and style I've ever had. She also showed me how to replicate the great new style at home. I've been back for every cut and style since and am always extremely pleased with the results. Erika's also a lot of fun and easy to communicate with.

The salon is perfect too. It's upscale but relaxed. The staff are friendly and helpful. I would recommend this salon to anyone who wants a great style in a comfortable environment.

Stylist Tina Hohmann was great! She took time to determine my desires and needs for style and color then performed her magic with precise, detailed talent! Also, the salon has a great, relaxing atmosphere.

I have extremely challenging hair to deal with and had never had a haircut I felt really good about. A good friend recommended that I go to see Erika Audrey at Helmet Midtown. I went with trepidation--as I said, no good haircuts in my life. Erika was wonderful--she is very thorough about getting to know her clients and crafting their haircut to their life/work needs. More than that, she devotes a lot of time to each session. I have never been in there where I have felt like she was rushing through my haircut and she always shows up with suggestions for making my haircut even better. I not only have hair I can be proud of now, but I get compliments all the time from my friends and co-workers (a first for me!). Go to Helmet and see Erika Audrey--you will not be disappointed!

I was really worried about finding a new hairdresser in Atlanta when I moved back last fall. A good friend of mine goes to Erika Audrey at Helmet and I so gave her a try! I haven't been anywhere else since! I was so impressed by the salon itself when I first arrived--it's in an adorable old house in Midtown (but still has lots of parking!) that has been renovated to be a hip Aveda salon with an old-Atlanta feel. Erika's 'station' overlooks Piedmont Avenue--can't beat that for an Atlanta haircut.

Erika has cut my hair four times now and every time I leave thinking I have my new best haircut ever! Finally I have a hairdresser who truly listens to what I want--and then she makes my hair look even better than I expected! Erika is also really great at teaching me how to replicate the style myself--gone are the days of my hair looking great at the salon but then not being able to do it myself.

I have recommended other friends to Erika since my first visit. I have long hair myself, which looks great thanks to her, but she has also given some of my girlfriends great bobs and short haircuts, and her guy cuts are hot, too! Can't recommend this smiley, hip hairdresser enough!

Pros: great personality, great salon atmosphere, lots of parking, friendly staff, service surpasses all expectations!

When I moved to Atlanta four years ago and didn't know where to go, so I tried what seemed to be popular places. I went from long blonde hair to shorter and shorter destroyed hair. There have been sooo many times I sat down, told the stylist what I wanted and was treated like an idiot or oblivious to fashion trends for wanting to stay blonde (the audacity of me). I have paid over 300 at Van Michael's to be subject to arrogant stylist whom I negotiated my hair color with, only to be very surprised at the end with the stylist?s ?interpretation?. A series of accidental mishaps at salons lead to a lot of damage and a lot of haircuts. I was avoiding mirrors. My hair looked liked I was in radiation treatment. I hated it, so I researched options before I started a new job. I decided to invest in hair extensions and called and consulted with different salons. I met with Erika at Helmet, immediately upon walking into the salon I felt warmly welcomed. Erika took her time, answered every question I could think of and helped feel comfortable not pushed or pressured to go one way or another. She encouraged me in getting the look I WANTED for ME! She colored my hair to match the extensions, and it was the BEST color job. Then the extensions came, and she did a great job showing me how it worked, and how to care for my hair. The end product is amazing! I look in the mirror and finally recognize the face I see- the person I always felt like, and not the cancer patient I looked like. It's been over four months and just left my touch up appointment... I'm still in love with my hair. I'm so grateful I found Helmet and Erika; I couldn't say enough about them... I hope that this will help someone else looking for a stylist that KNOWS what they are doing, keeps up with current trends, advises you without pushing you, and LISTENS to your beauty goals... you'll find it at Helmet.

I don't usually take the time to visit websites to make coments or write reviews, but my experience at Helmet East Atlanta warrants my effort. My stylist is Johnathan, and I cant say enough about his talent. He listened to what I wanted, made suggestions, asked all the right questions...and although I was probably not very clear on what I weanted, he gave it to me and then some. I get comments on my hair all the time. Of course, i like to think thats because i am kind of a big deal....but I really know its Johnathans work. The salon is really hip and chic as well...a small piece of NYC right here in lil old east Atlanta.

I'm new to Atlanta and very thankful for the citysearch reviews! After reading several good reviews about Helmet, I decided to give its midtown location a try. I had the same hair stylist back home for years. The idea of trying someone new gave me panic attacks. Thankfully, Wendy at Helmet was amazing. She really listened to what I had to say about my hair, and what I wanted to do. My highlights are flawless. Cut, amazing. I'm so happy to have found Wendy at Helmet!

I can't say enough good things about Helmet Salon and stylist Ronnie at the Cheshire Bridge location. Ronnie has been my stylist for the past 2 months and he does an outstanding job on my hair. I could not be any happier since I am SO particular about my hair. Ronnie has a great attitude and a wonderful personality and I highly recommend him.

i've been to both the midtown and highlands location, and i have nothing but the best to say about them. marianne from midtown gave me just awesome highlights and cut. i also recently went to highlands and was taken care of by susan. she is the best... so friendly, personable and very easy to talk to. it's like gaining a new friend in an hour! she also listens to what you want and does your hair as such. both times i went i came out with a fabulous hair color! the whole staff was inviting and very friendly as well. will not go to another salon again.

I am very picky about my hair, both cut & color! Lindsay, at Helmet on Piedmont Avenue, ROCKS!! She has a true vision for color and I love what she does for me. Also, I have tried various cuts for short hair and have finally settled on a style. Lindsay has been so patient through this process!! I am constantly getting compliments on my hair. She is patient, listens to her clients and gives them a result that is awesome!! Her shampoos are amazing and so relaxing!! She is also a wonderful people person and makes your visit very enjoyable.

I got my haircut by Marianne. Now, I'm a thinning man and she made me look like I had a full head of hair. I don't know how she did it-maybe some kind of crazy gypsy magic or something. I don't know. I went to Helmet for the first time this week even though I have lived around the corner from it for 4 years. I got my hair cut by Emily who was seriously amazing. She took her time, explained everything she was doing and gave pointed suggestions. This girl lives and breathes hair!!!! She was meticulous and a total perfectionist without taking 2 hours. I was lost about what I wanted to do with my hair when I walked in to Helmet. The moment I started talking to Emily she started to brainstorm about things that she could do with my hair and what suits my face and head. I am so happy with my haircut!! I won't be going to anyone else as long as I am in Atlanta.

As a sylist at an upscale salon in Buckhead I am very picky about color and cut techniques. Ive been looking to change my hair to a completely new look and surprise everyone but I also wanted the experience as a client for once. So I began asking around and Helmet kept coming up in conversation. I called and booked my appointment and ended up with SUSAN KELLEY. What a great experience!! We discussed colors I liked and didnt care for ( I never told her I was a stylist myself) and was extremely impressed with her suggestions. We changed my hair from blonde to chocalote brown w/ carmel highlights. Shes incrediable. My hair has never looked so great and everyone loves it. Ive gotten more compliments than ever. Shes great at suggesting the best color and cut for you. It never seemed cookie cutter. It was completely customized to me. I would suggest her to anyone who asked. Price was great also. If she ever changes salons Im snatching her up immediately!!

Susan at the Highlands location is the most sweet and talented stylist. I won't see anyone but her. I always love my hair and receive many compliments on it. The salons atmosphere is relaxing but not pretentious and the products are great which include Aveda and Bumble and Bumble! I highly recommend Susan for all your haircoloring and haircutting needs. She is extremely talented and you won't regret it!!

I have been here once and used Susan Kelly. Maybe I just got he wrong stylist and with not as much training or something. The highlights were incorrectly done and the cut was mediocre. Which is fine if I'm not having to pay as much for it. The ambience of the place is neat and a good location, which may be the only reason so many people go there. Also, Aveda products smell nice and are somewhat organic, but aren't really the best quality of products. This was also confirmed by an Aveda chairman themselves so, take my word for it. Even with Aveda products there are much better salons out there (being said after only using one stylist here). I recommend Van Michael's if that is what you are looking for in that price range. More for your money without having to return in a few weeks considering the highlights were done so far away from my scalp.

Helmet hair salon has the NICEST front desk staff that I've ever met. Most salons I have been to have pretentious, snobby staff. It is refreshing to be treated so well at a hair salon in Midtown. Parking was easy and I was in and out in about an hour! My stylist REX is really talented and gave me the exact color I was looking for. His attention to detail is impressive and I could tell that he went above and beyond to style my hair just the way I like it. He introduced me to the owner as I was leaving the salon and I was equally impressed with him! Just super nice people all the way around! I highly reccomend HELMET in Midtown and of course - REX!!!!

Melanie rocks-pure and simple. I've sent 3 friends there since February and they have all had to get in with other stylists because Melanie was booked during their preferred time. BUT you guessed it-they are just as happy. Rock on Helmet.

I had the best cut I've ever had in my 32 years of life by Melanie and just got a trim up last week. My hair looks like Rock Star hair or as she calls it "GIrl you could be on the cover of US Weekly now"-LOL!

Met their owner Randy the other day too-very nice guy. I feel like they focus on customer service and truly listen to their clients. I'll never go anywhere else ya'll...

I have been to several stylists in Atlanta and none of them could get my hair to the exact shade of blonde that I wanted.Well Deborah has done it! I went to her for the first time and she got my color exactly perfect the first time! I came in with some dishwater blonde highlights and left with beautiful, bright, shiny,and very natural looking blonde highlights ! She also gave me an amazing new cut so with that along with my new color, I left feeling very glamorous! even got compliments on my hair from total strangers!And, she is also very nice and listens to you explain how you want your hair done.However,she is so professional and knowledgable about cuts and color ,I felt like she knew what I wanted before I told her.She knew the exact color and cut that would fit me and I left feeling like I had a new, hip hairstyle! I highly recommend Deborah , especially if you are very picky and it is very hard for you to find a stylist that you like and that you can count on to do a wonderful job every time you go.She also fit me in to a very busy Saturday morning which was extremely accomodating of her. Try Deborah for highlights and a cut! You will be very happy with how you look!You will look fabulous!

Never in my life have I ever said, "Go as short as you can without making me look bad. I trust you." I have no idea what the heck got into me but whatever it was, thank goodness it did. This is the shortest haircut I've ever had AND I LOVE IT. I would rather get a tooth pulled than go get my hair cut but with Rex it's not that bad. I still freak out when getting my hair done but with Rex it's more like getting my teeth cleaned than getting one pulled. Highly recommended. He's awesome. Super talented. 5 Scissors up. (I know, I'm a goober.)

I recently moved to Atlanta from Chicago where I had been going to my stylist for 15 years. I was very apprehensive about letting someone new do my hair after all those years but I had to choice. I tried Helmet becasue it is in my neighborhood and I saw Malaika for the first time. Malaika did a great job matching my hair color to what my old stylist had been doing and I could not be happier. Malaika was understanding and freindly. She helped to make my move to Altlanta much easier. If you have grey that you want to go away go see Malaika.

I had been relatively content with my stylist/colorist until I went to Perry! Not only is the color amazing, but the style is perfect! He listened intently to what I wanted and created a look that was perfect for my lifestyle. I don't have to spend too much time on my hair every morning (because I won't) and it looks good no matter whether I am in a business meeting or on the red eye, in jeans or formal wear! I have complete faith in him. He is a true find!

Having just moved down from the Boston area, I was seeking a new stylist. I had the delightful experience of randomly being assigned Rexx Alexander at James Madison. He is amazing! I have since followed him to Helmet. Helmet is a really great salon, very casual and relaxed / comfy.... No pressure... cool vibe. I liked it a lot more than James Madison... Rexx can now do color and he's damn good at it. So glad I found him and Helmet!!!

I was reffered to Malaika by one of her current clients. I had a great stylist for years but he moved away recently and I was on the hunt for a replacement. My hair was always the most beautiful shimmery coppery red (i'm a natural blond) and I loved it, but the past few stylists I tried gave me a dull dusty red with no depth. I explained my delimma to Malaika and she told me she absoluty loves creating red heads and not to worry she would give me my signature red hair back. Malaika acheived what I was looking for and more. I walked out of that salon with my head held high and my copper hair shimmering again! I was bombarded with compliments that following week and I have already booked my next appointment.

I have been to Adrianne before for a cut and she did an amazing job.....well..it was that time again but this time I wanted some highlights too. I am the luckiest girl in the world! I finally found a hairdresser that can do it all! I am so picky and really have never been happy with a cut and color and I never have stuck with a hairdresser but I have found the one and I can't be happier! I have never gotten so many compliments! I have been going to Rexx for almost two years at James Madison. He is fantastic! He is now working at Helmet Salon in Midtown. It's a really quaint salon with a relaxed atmosphere. Rexx now does color as well as hair cuts. He is equally as good with color as with a cut. I have never been happier with my hair color! Go see Rexx!!

I've never always been kind of indifferent about my hair, but I came to realize it was because I was always getting average hair cuts and color jobs. I came to Helmet on a wim cause I was going through a lot and needed a change. They booked me with Ashley, and she was fabulous. My hair not only looks great now it is also extrememly easy to fix at home. She gave me some great product suggestions and my color and cut have lasted over three months without looking crappy or rooty! Thanks Ashley! I would trust you for my next service!

Helmet is a comfortable full service salon with warm and somewhat contemporary appointments. More than adequate parking is available behind the salon. Rusty is upstairs with plenty of room.

Rusty is the most professional master hair stylist that I have ever met. He genuinely listened to me as I explained my past experience, the style, and hair color I desired. After consultation, he put together several options for me along with his recommendations. His years of experience, industry knowledge, and being the hair color master that he is, yielded results beyond my expectations. How could one wish for more?

I have gone to Helmet East Atlanta and absolutely LOVE it! The staff is really nice, helpful, and laid-back and the atmosphere is very comfortable. I've tried dozens of different aveda salons, and this is one of the best. I usually get my hair highlighted with ROBIN when I go to Helmet and I have been extremely pleased. She is so nice, easy to talk to, and really listens to what you want. She takes her time with me and the result is amazing. I love my hair and would recomment Helmet in East Atlanta and ROBIN to anyone. The prices are reasonable, and you can even get 20% off your first visit or if you refer someone. The salon also takes walk ins on the weekends. My fiance has gotten his haircut at Helmet and loved it, too! It's definitely the best of the aveda salons i've tried in Atlanta.

I am super picky about my blond highlights and am so glad that I found Tim at Helmet in Midtown. He does a great job with my color and does excellent precision cuts. I love having a stylist who does cut and color... His prices aren't cheap, but he's not the most expensive I've seen either-- he's worth every penny!

I HAVE TO ADMIT, I HAVE NOT BEEN THE EASIEST CLIENT TO PLEASE, BUT BY THE THE TIME SHANNON WAS APPLYING MY COLOR, I FELT VERY RELAXED AND COMFORTABLE. THE RESULTS WERE STUNNING. I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THIS MIGHT BE THE BEST COLOR I HAVE HAD IN A VERY LONG TIME. I THINK SHE ONLY DOES COLOR, SO THATS ALL I CAN SPEAK FOR, BUT THERE WERE SOME HAIR CUTS GOING ON THAT LOOKED BEAUTIFUL, SO I AM SURE I CAN FIND SOMEONE THERE. I used to attend the Midtown location of Helmet for years and recently moved to the Ormewood Park area of town to find a new location in EAST ATLANTA! I figured with my previous expierences were good and to give it a shot. To no surprise I was right in doing so. The receptionist matched me with ASHLEY, and she went above and beyond my expectations! I left with a great new colour and cut, and also learned how to style my hair at home. The location felt homey and inviting and non pretinous. A great welcome to the neighborhood!

There are a few great salons in Atlanta but after being to Helmet 4 times now, I think they have it all. It has a comfortable, laid-back atmosphere. What I mean is that it doesn't feel like a hospital waiting room in there. Nice work Helmet.

Melanie Bell at Helmet is amazing, hands down the best colorist/stylist I've been too! She used to be at Soge, and I followed her to Helmet. The location in midtown always has parking spots and has a very warm feeling. Melanie is great at knowing what type of cut, color, highlights will enhance your appearance, not just color for the point of color or a crazy cut where all you can see is the haircut. She really knows a lot of face shape and style. I couldn't imagine going elsewhere and her prices are great!

CJ does a mean pedicure. She does such an awesome job and uses great products; I don't have to get a pedicure every 2 weeks. I will not go back to the mani/pedi in 25 minutes nail salon again. Thank you CJ for rescuing my hands and feet.

She has been my favorite stylist for the past 7 years and I have tried many different stylists to be objective but I always go back to her to fix. She has a sharp eye for stylized cuts and great color. I get complimented all the time on my hair and always run out of her cards. She always make me laugh and feel welcomed. I love her - she's the best.

Everyone at Helmet is so friendly!! It is truly the most relaxed salon i've been to! I just found out there is a location in the Highlands, too. Right next to Sala and the Post Office on North Highland. They have great stylists and great parking!!

Pros: for the Highlands location- great parking and customer service

Cons: too far away from the Midtown location! = )

Everyday I have passed Helmet on my way to work. I finally decided to give it a try, and I am so glad. I got my hair cut and colored with Erika and I couldn't be more happy, she is amazing. My old salon was very modern and cold feeling, this one is the exact opposite, very homey and friendly. I also like that the same person did my cut and color. I hated bouncing around from person to person in the other salon. I will definatley be back, and you should try it too!

Cons: having to leave!
