Visited our daughter and her husband twice in the past few months and this is always our favorite place to visit. Not fancy at all but very homey and tastey food. This is a nostalgic establishment.

You can always count on Matthews if you have a craving for some good 'ole southern fried chicken. The atmosphere is family friendly but the decor is a little dated. Don't get me wrong, I love the serving line and checkered tables, it's just that the walls could use a coat of paint. Matthews is not open on weekends and is usually busy but the wait is never long.

The menu rotates daily with fried chicken being about the only entree available every night. They serve a really tasty corned beef and cabbage on Tuesdays and Thursdays turkey and dressing is not to be missed. Their vegetable are always fresh and remind me of home cooking. If you are in the area, Matthews is certainly worth at least one visit if not many more.

I live just a few miles from Matthews, and go at least once a month. It's very convenient and quick. That said, I have be honest about the quality of food. For the most part, it's good, but not great or bad. I never feel like I am in my grandmother's house, but I also don't feel like I am in a school cafeteria. The fried chicken is always consistently good, so that's a good option. And a veggie plate for around $7 is a good deal anywhere.

Tip - skip the dessert and stop at one of the other dessert places in Tucker. The desserts are usually the most disappointing part of the meal.

If you are looking for southern cooking then you have found your spot. Matthews serves wonderful food just like your momma cooked it. The menu varies by day and can be found on their website. But the wonderful taste does not vary at all.

When I go I usually pick a main course (they have items such as fried chicken, turkey and dressing, meatloaf, etc.) and two sides. The nice thing is you can always get a "to-go" order and feed your whole family at home.

The price is very reasonable. You will not be dissapointed.

When looking for a good "home-cooked" meal that you don't have to prepare yourself, this is the place! I have never left Matthews hungry. The greens are amazing! The mashed potatoes are amazing! The character and charm of the staff is amazing! It's one of my favorites.

Tucker is a friendly small town and so is Matthew's. Their are many regulars to this establishment and when you eat there you will know why.
The interior is plain with white walls and checked tablecloths, but you can't beat the fried chicken and vegetables.
Open Monday through Friday, every week has the same menu, but each night has different entrees and vegetables. You can pick up a menu there. We keep ours handy at home. The fried chicken is always served for dinner, though.
The sweet potatoes and macaroni and cheese are delicious.
Prices are reasonable too.

As a kid, I remember riding out to Tucker, seemed far out back then, with my Grandfather to pick-up supplies at Cofer Brothers. We would always stop by Matthew's Cafeteria, across the street, for lunch. I've only been back a couple of times, but Matthew's is the real deal. A true Southern Cafeteria. It won't break the budget, but for around $7.00, you can get a meat and two, and refillable glasses of sweet tea. And meat, I mean fried chicken, meatloaf, fried flounder on Fridays, and great prepared Southern Style veggies, Green beans, fried green tomatoes, and some great mac 'n cheese. But the best day of the week, is Thursdays. And every Thursday, is Thanksgiving Day. Fresh Baked Turkey, not processed, dressing, giblet gravy, and cranberry sauce. This is a feast, and a bargain. Grandma's cooking lives!

Pros: Traditional Southern Cafeteria! Baked Turkey & Dressing On Thursday's!

Cons: It's In Tucker, I Guess That's O.K.?

Matthew's is a place where you can find fried green tomatoes, okra, homemade banana pudding, and other basic southern stuff, cooked to perfection. The staff is friendly, and you don't find this type of meat-and-two sides dining many places nowadays. They have efficient take-out too, just ask at the register. It's also a great place to take visitors who want to enjoy southern cafeteria cooking.

Not only does Matthew's offer the best country cookin' - but they sell it to you cheap too. This is what Tucker, GA is famous for. If you've never eaten at Matthew's Cafeteria, it's well worth driving the extra mile for. My Grandmother used to cook the best food in South Georgia... since she passed away, this is where I can get that same kind of cookin'.
This is some real good food, and the ladies that work there kind of do look like my grandmother!!!

Remaining resolutely blue collar since it was established, Matthews cafeteria hasn't been renovated in decades, but loyal customers probably would pitch a fit if it changed too much. The menu rotates every day and is served…
