I like the food here but I always get take out. The ceiling is tin (metal) and it is therefore crazy loud in there. Who wants to eat delicious Thai food in what sounds like a football stadium? My stress level shoots up when I enter that

Had dinner there last night, 3/21. Shrimp Coconut Soup: Coconut water, sugar, shrimp and fresh mushrooms in hot pot, mild flavor, not special, temp. warm and fire in hot pot died quickly. Chicken Satay: dry, tasted like processed

Another Atlanta staple that I grew up. I'm always a fan, the food is fresh and really good flavor. I havent been in a while but I see that it hasnt lost it's touch from the other locals.

Pros: Good Food, Good Service

Cons: Parking.......as usual in VaHi

Went here last night for a first date and it was as good as I remember it being. Of course, you must start with the coconut chicken soup which is absolutely delicious and comes to your table in a big flaming bowl.

It's a little loud and crowded, but luckily we were able to get a table in the corner, so it was quite nice. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken (I know, I know, Michael E. can't you be a bit more adventurous than that?!?!) and enjoyed it very much.

There's a bit of a language barrier with some of the waiters, but I think it adds to the experience. We all figured out what we wanted after pointing to the menu.

This place has been around for a long time and I imagine it will keep going strong for many years. Great place to take out-of-town friends, too.

It's a different atmosphere from Harry & Sons or the former Thai Bowl, but Surin deserves a place in its own right. They are also now populating the wilds of Alabama with good Thai food, which is a noble mission.

I have to give them a five star too! Their food is absolutely delicious. And it is very affordable too. My sister had a birthday party here for a group of about 30 people and she didnt spend a lot. They have some kind of shrimp platter, which is really good, and their chicken is nice too. The only problem is parking, because it is located downtown. But I guarantee you that it is worth it!

I have always received great service, drinks, and food here. The environment is relaxing and romantic. It's not too overdone with decoration and over-the-top design- it's simple with quality. Not too pricey. Also, it is in a good location so that you can visit a good bar or go for a nice walk afterwards. I keep coming back and have never brought someone who was dissatisfied.

I love going here after a nice day at the salon. The atmosphere is so relaxing and the food is simply mouth watering. I love the bar be que chicken dish it is to die for!!! I would reccomend this to all who are having a relaxing or hard day to unwind here. But beware of the parking situation it is a little irritating at times.

It was my first experience with Thai food, but it will never be my last! Now, since then, I've been to three other restaurants that like to call what they serve, "Thai" cuisine; however, none of them have come close to Surin of Thailand! I've tried several dishes at this restaurant, and ALL of them have been superb! I've not once been disappointed. Now, I've read that some people were a little disappointed about the wait, but heck, anything that is GREAT is worth waiting for --and this, my friends, is an experience beyond sheer satisfaction! Now personally... I've never waited more than six minutes to be seated. However, that's why I don't eat out on THE BUSIEST NIGHTS OF THE WEEK!!!! ...duh. Now, I have seen long lines on these extremely busy nights, but obvoiusly, the people waiting value excellent food. I don't necessarily like being seated directly adjacent to perfect strangers at those really long tables, but fortunately, the hosts have always accommodated my requests for a private table for two. Well, it's Monday, May 14, 2007, and I'm on my way to enjoy the best Thai food in the "A"!

Pros: great food, great service, more great food, nide lighting/ambiance

Cons: the possibility of sitting next to complete strangers

The customer service was excellent! We had a party of over 10 people and everything was handled in a precise friendly fashion. Most of the other patrons in the restaurants were couples... so it's definitely a great date spot. The drinks were great.... you've got to try the green tea martini. Doesn't sound too great and when you get it, it doesn't look the prettiest, but it's definitely wonderful. Everyone's food was amazing! This place is definitely added to the list of great food places in Atlanta.

Every birthday and anniversary means it's time for Surin!!! I love this restaurant, even though it has a few flaws, because the food is delicious. No, it probably isn't the most "authentic" Thai food out there, so if you're looking for that you may be disappointed. Parking is, well, it's in the Highlands, so it's not great. It can also be loud and difficult to hear. But the food is SO good that none of that matters to me. All the items on the menu can be made with tofu, which we love because my husband and I are both vegetarians. I loved this restaurant in Birmingham, and I love it here. You have to go!

I won't call it the best Thai food I've ever had, but it's good for the price. The entrees are reasonable oriced and the location is great. They offer the pretty standard thai dishes and the curry was good and spicy.

I've been in so many "Thai Restaurant", and "Surin" have the "Thai Dishes" that the others don't offer. "Grilled Chicken w/Shirmp Fried Rice" on the special menu is "Highly Recommended" & and also "Tom Yum Soup" & "Papaya Salad w/sticky rice" !! The food at surin are "Not Expensive". This place is crowded; but service is just fine !! (Com' on it's crowded, man!!) You might have the good conversation with the table next to you !! Such a fun place to go. "Surin is located in really good location but there are very litmied parking (i mean it !! VERY LIMITED!!). Taking a cab might be the best way to go there, always having a cab in front of the restaurant so you don't have to call a cab when you go home.

As the CitySearch description says-Maintream! This place has a great Virginia-Highland location. But this is not authentic Thai cuisine. If you don't know the difference between Chinese and Thai, this place is for you. Or if you've had a few too many at Dark Horse Tavern, it might pass. You can buy better frozen Thai at the grocery store. If you are early twenty something, and don't know anything about food, this might be a place to start. Do yourself a favor, and drive a couple of miles away to Anlsey Square--The King & I is the real deal. Service is horrible at Surin!

Always eat here when in the VA Highlands. ITs affordable, wonderful staff, never had to wait long and love the food. Now it isnt the best Thai I have ever had, but its a close second and that's good enough for a picky eater like myself. try the shrimp potstickers and the chicken panang and the coconut milk soup. dress is nice casual (jeans) whenever you go. I love that its not super trendy or up tight, i always feel laid back. THe weekends can get more crowded, just call and make reservations if you are worried about getting in! I have never had a bad experience here and I have been enough times to know. THe location is the best! You can walk to local shops or go have gelato and Paulo's down the street. Enjoy Surin, its worth trying it out if you havent!

I've been to many Thai restaurants, and the food is well..not so authentic. The place and atmosphere look nice, but as for the food..I wasn't feeling the heat like Thai food should be. The soups are ok but the dishes are pricy and the portions are somewhat smaller than i expected.

This is by far the best restaurant to get some Tai food. This food is so good I have to give it a 5 star. The chicken fried rice is to die for, the curry chicken is so good you will slap your mama. I'm getting hungry just talking about it.

This isn't even the best thai restaurant in the highlands. Not even the second best. It's the Shakey's of local Thai. Head north on North Highland until you get to Amsterdam, and then duck into Ma Li. Don't look back...

I've been to Surin on several occasions. The lunch menu is one of the best in town. Try the Chicken Noodle Bowl or the BBQ Chicken. Both are absolutely amazing! Unfortunately they do not offer EITHER of those at night which is very disappointing. I find the evening menu does not have as much variety. The Sweet and Sour Chicken is wonderful but I have been disappointed with the traditional pad thai dish and spicy spaghetti. If you go....go for lunch! Great prices and great food.

My friends and I drove from Louisiana just to eat at Surin of Thailand. I love the food and the atmosphere is romantic and calming. The wait staff are helpful and friendly in suggesting menu items and customs of Thailand. May I suggest everything on the menu! Everyone should visit Surin of Thailand at least once in their life. Once you have tried it you will crave it like comfort food.

The food here is meagerly flavored, knock-off Thai. Far better is Mali, just up the street. Avoid the Buckhead crowd and head for the good stuff. Pad Thai is better and it's withing stumbling distance, but Pad Thai is a silly name for a restaurant as it means "Thai-style Fried Noodles."

In previous experience I've found that with many 'ethnic' restaurants, you either go for the food or for the service.... rarely both. But at Surin, you get both and more. Not having eaten there in a couple of years, I was hesitant to bring my group of 13 visiting from around the South East, but everyone enjoyed EVERY PORTION of their dining experience. We were seated faster than expected, everything from aperitifs to after dinner drinks & dessert were served in a timely fashion. The food was excellent and the service was great. We went so far as to tip our waiter 15% above the existing service charge because of his willingness to split checks AFTER he'd delivered the bill.

I'm surpsied this place doesn't have a higher rating, or a nomination for the Best Highlands Restaurant. I've never had an unpleasant experience at Surin. The service is polite and hepful to those unfamiliar with Thai food. The menu is Thai, and the quality of the food and the sizes of the portions are both very good. The restaurant does get noisy, even when it's not that crowded, but I could really care less. If you decide to show up at 9 PM on a Friday, expect to wait in line (as you would anywhere in-town).

i feel that surin is not as good as other thai restaurants in town - such as spice in toco hills. the tables are right on top of each other so you can have a conversation with your dining partner and yet still every intimate detail of the table next you (or even 3 over) conversation. not a good environment to say the least. the coconut soup is good though.

The basil rolls (an appetizer) are almost reason enough to visit Surin; theyre light and perfectly flavored. While the atmosphere is nice at Surin, Ive tried about a half-dozen entrees and Ive experienced nothing but mediocre Thai cuisine. Then theres the added hassle of parking in the Highlands
