The Stanley House is a charming bed and breakfast close to the historic square in Marietta, with the most hospitable of innkeepers (Joseph and Meg), the most delightful of ambience, and all of the charm of the Old South. We stayed three days recently and regretted that our time had come to an end when it came to an end. The house was warm and welcoming; the innkeepers rapidly became friends; and, came to feel totally at home there. Another reviewer recently made much of the proximity of the main rail line to the B&B, and it is worth mentioning that there is rail traffic. But, that too is a major part of the Stanley House's charm - we came to look forward to the sound of the passing trains. Since each of us had grown up near a rail line, the sound took us back to another time. Those who want sterile silence may not like having the trains nearby, but we loved them!??

Our daughter was married at the Stanley House in early November. It was a warm and sunny picture-perfect fall day. Leaves were falling in the Stanley House courtyard and it was magical. Our guests commented about the beautiful mansion and were impressed. All enjoyed the buffet and wedding cake (tasted as good as it looked). Pricing was another plus.

Searching for a intimate wedding venue in Atlanta is not easy. After finding The Stanley house in a search, I quickly called and spoke with the on-site wedding coordinator. Cathy Kilday was very helpful and eager to meet all of my wedding needs.

I visited The Stanley House later that week and I can tell you first hand that the pictures on the website do not compare to the beauty and splendor of this immaculate home! Rich with American history and Southern charm it is a must see.

The ceremony was performed by Cathy's husband, Lloyd. It was beautiful and soul-stirring.

My husband and family were very impressed with the decor and service that The Stanley House offers. With a golden day atmosphere and modern touches, my family and I enjoyed our wedding cake and champagne while watching the Falcons and Rams game on the plasma tv!

I would higly recommend The Stanley House for your wedding event.

-- At 10am the DAY OF our wedding, 6/21/08, the poor BRIDE had to remind SH owner Kathy that 85 guests would be arriving within the next hour!! "Oh, I thought it was at 7:30pm..."Guests had to move furniture to help set up! It's a good thing we contracted out for food & flowers!!THEN Kathy announced,"I'd made other plans because I thought the wedding was later." and LEFT in the middle of the wedding, She didn't bother to introduce her sister whom she left in charge. The sister seemed more concerned about policing the premises than attending to guests. There were still not enough seats for guests--when I complained Sis's response was: "I don't know anything about what's going on now, I'm here for the 7:30 WEDDING!!" I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried!
After the reception, everyone from SH vanished, even though we were B&B guests! We had to clear out banquet tables & folding chairs, then move all of the living room furniture a 2nd time just to have a place to sit that evening!!
Kathy's response to all this? "YOU tell ME what service I failed to provide!" --So much for caring about the QUALITY of the service!! Not even so much as "I'm sorry about the mix up. Something like " Thank your guests for their help getting set up would have gone a lot farther than "We didn't ask anyone to help move furniture." (By the way, they sure weren't turning down the help!)

Not the kind of wedding professional I could recommend.

For B&B guests- The house is directly across the street from a very busy train route and do not expect the level of service you may be accustomed to finding in true B&B's this is a wedding factory.

I was pretty happy with the Stanley House...until our wedding. My mom posted below, so you've heard the story. Just to explain a little - The morning of the wedding (which was to start at 11:30) Kathy asked how I wanted the tables set up - I was surprised she was so relaxed. At the end of the conversation she said, "And it starts at 7:30, right?" and my heart dropped. We had NEVER spoken about an evening wedding. I told her it started at 11:30 am, and she got very defensive, stating, "the contract says 7!!" I have the contract, it says absolutely nothing about 7pm. She made a mistake. I would have been fine with her making a mistake, but she refused to apologize or even admit to it! She did leave, and left her sister and housekeeper in charge. The spent the day glaring at guests and acting blatantly hostile. As if we had changed the time without telling them. Had we done that, I'd understand why they were mad, but THEY made the mistake and were nothing but nasty about it.
They never did have enough chairs for our guests, but the real problem was the hostility.
The Stanley House is beautiful. The service and support was a nightmare. I didn't want to have any negativity associated with my wedding, but I figured I owe it to potential Stanley House clients to warn them.

I read the review from "anonymous" and just don't know what planet they are from. I had my wedding ceremony and reception at the Stanley House in March and everything turned out just the way it was promised. I am STILL getting compliments from my guests. The catering staff went way beyond their jobs and even made plates for my older guests. Catering To You took the time to ask about the things that I envisioned for my wedding and even made punch from our family recipe!! The flowers were delivered exactly as promised and were beautiful, even though I was on a budget. The Stanley House management was very receptive to my requests and answered all my questions even though I must have called a dozen times. MY pictures turned out beautifully and we have ordered lots of extras. I have only good things to say about the preferred vendors at the Stanley House. Even though I opted for the wedding "package", I was treated as an individual and my wedding was anything but cookie cutter.
The management was there for me and my husband during the reception--they made plates for us to eat during the reception, one to take with us and were checking on us the whole time.
I highly recommend the Stanley House and all it's vendors...they were just great. I would do it exactly the same way if I had to do it over again.

My reception was at the Stanley House:

-The plates ran out continuously, as did some food items.
-We had to ask for refills, and got them only half the time.
-The food was barely luke warm
-We paid for a Pasta Server who sat and did nothing. Everyone served their own pasta.
-The cake was demolished by two BUS BOYS with the Stanley House's "Preferred Catering Company"
-The cake was not decorated as promised, and decorations were tacky and small.
-The preferred photographer was not good, and I have the pictures to prove it. No artistry at all in the pics. Plain ole straight on headshots, toes cut off, TOO close up, BAD pictures
-She did not even bother to straighten out the crooked candle before taking multiple pics of the food table. The candle is badly crooked in ALL the pictures.
-There was no one from the Catering for You company OR the Inn there to supervise, and the contract said there would be.
-The staff and preferred vendors were rude.
**Receptions can not be done over. Mine was a MESS. No one complimented or said anything about how good the food was or how nice the reception was. It was AWFUL.

I was recently married in Marietta and had my reception at The Stanley House Inn on 12/1/07. Offered there is the KISS reception package (an acronym for Keep it Simple.) The end result was "OK" but planning a reception with the Stanley House Inn keeper and new owner Cathy (very unfriendly) and also their "preferred vendors" was anything BUT simple. The florist A Perfect Petal sat and stared and my mother and me across the table, said very little and barely offered any suggestions, made us look at an old book of samples in a dark room (finally she turned on a light) and had NO FLORIST shop to see what we were getting. Not to mention the only flowers offered in the "package" were mostly summer flowers. Of course we had to pay extra and there were only 4 attendants in the wedding party. The DJ had a "stomach virus" on the day of our wedding so his substitute came.
Thank Goodness for digital cameras. After looking at many of the pictures by Hampton Photography right after they were taken, my eyes were closed, all though she said oh yeah, that looks great. NO pictures were taken of us outside of the Stanley House in the Gardens. My poor, exhausted mother had to take some right after the caterers scurried and rushed us out of the house after the reception was over-which ended a little early anyway. We had plenty of time. Except for the DJ, the vendors when contacted acted agitated and as if it were an inconvenience to even bother them and they offered little to minimal suggestions. The caterer was ok, and the food tasted good, but her servers DESTROYED part of the cake into crumbles all over the table. Someone even commented "Oh my, what happened to the cake." Not to mention the chintsy little icing roses on the cake were the wrong color and tiny. It was an absolute mess. Luckily it tasted very good. I WOULD THINK TWICE IF NOT THREE TIMES BEFORE SPENDING THOUSANDS HERE. We were treated with very flippant and cool attitudes.

When I was working as a wedding planner, one of my favorite venues was The Stanley House,a charming Victorian mansion in Marietta. The venue offers reasonably priced wedding/reception packages (although not bargain priced.) The house also has five rooms that are rented out for overnight accomodations. The courteous staff, authentic antique furniture, and delicious food make this a wonderful place to hold a wedding and/or reception, and for overnight stays for out of town guests or the bride and groom prior to the honeymoon trip.

PROS: charm, overnight accomodations, courtesy, reasonable packages
CONS: Not inexpensive, although rates are very competitive

The Stanley House, a quaint bed and breakfast inn located near the Marietta Square, is an excellent choice for catered events as well. Their fare is sumptuous! They offer a wonderful selection of entrees and side dishes - each mouthwateringly good. And the desserts..... amazing.
We rented the downstairs for our event and were allowed to bring our personal selection of music to play. They have lovely antiques and pretty linens, making for a wonderful atmosphere. Wait staff was attentive and pleasant. If you have the occassion to go there -- please do. They are terrific.

This is a charming Bed and Breakfast that filled with southern charm. The big country front porch has lovely rockers for you to enjoy the evening. The rooms are spacious with gorgeous linens and beautiful antiques that fill the room. Breakfast is freshly made and you have a wonderful choice of breakfast items to choose from. There is also lots of fresh fruit, hot coffee and delicious tea. The hospitality here is the finest in town. They only have five rooms so you want to make sure that you do book in advance so you dont miss out on this great place.
