The Scene
As Sinatra croons his classic tunes over the speakers, a hip over-50 crowd cuts a rug on the dance floor, complete with a rotating disco ball. The dimly lit club pays kitschy homage to days gone by. Check out the "Sinatra Room," the world-famous shrine to Ol' Blue Eyes, and the "King's Corner," chock-full of Elvis tribute items. There is a modicum of decorum--loyal patrons don their finer duds and dress for a night on the town. A familiar haunt for the young at heart, the bar is generally packed, especially on weekends.

The Draw
Card-carrying AARP members looking to have a good old-school time hit the jackpot with Johnny's. Neither the food nor the drinks drain the bank account, especially if you take advantage of the free daily buffet. On a weekend night, it's not unusual to see an influx of young Buckheaders coming to foreshadow their future selves.

Key Points

  • Atlanta?s Original Nightspots
  • Ladies Night Wednesdays
  • Since 1979

The Inside Scoop

  1. When to Go - Though most popular on weekends, all-request Mondays and Tuesday ladies' nights are also popular with the regulars.
  2. Know Before You Go - Anyone sitting at a table is expected to order at least two drinks.
  3. The Extras - Many a Johnny's fan starts the week off with the all-you-can-eat Sunday spaghetti dinner from 6pm-7pm.

Three Dollar Cafe

by Carole B. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 319

This is not a place I would recommend for dinner. Maybe that's why we were the only ones eating. Everyone else was drinking and dancing. It's an older crowd and you feel like you're back in the 70's. It's great for people watching.

sorta fun

by Martha J. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,746

If you like to dance and are past the " young" crowd, this is the place to go. Dance floor gets pretty crowded and some of the single men give it a meat-market quality but still fun for the occasional dance night.

Great value

by ccd63

A place where you have to go in knowing what to expect, a dance club for people 30 to 70. It takes a little time to get used to but if you like strong cocktails and top 40 dance tunes, it's for you. Everyone is smoking but they finally renovated the bathrooms.

Pros: value, no-hassle

Cons: crowded on weekends

No excuse for rude valets...dont frequent Johnnys

by CDWIII

I have worked for almost 20 years as a restaurant manager in the Buckhead area. Saturday, May 25th I dropped by Johnnys for a nightcap with several employees of mine from the restaurant. I had parked in the lot adjacent to Johhnys, but my fellow co-workers innocently pulled into the Johnnys lot and parked in the first available space. (It was about 2am in the morning) The valets started yelling at him that the lot was valet only, so the driver got out of the car and promptly tipped them $5 for the space. Evidently this wasnt good enough for one of the valets as he started threatening my employees that if they didnt tip the valets, they werent getting into the club. I was aghast at this behavior and would like to discourage anyone that reads this to consider going to a different club where they have a clue what "hospitality" means. In addition...this club is all washed up anyways ...it used to be an Atlanta landmark, but now that it has been sold to new management, it has gone down hill fast.

Cons: RUDE VALET

good for a fight...not a dance

by RaeAn

the crowd has changed and it is not the same. Too many fights and it appears they no longer care for the "older" crowd that supported them in the past. I won't be back.

Pros: it used to be good

Cons: the crowd has gotten young and the music with it

Mariothe Italian

I always have a great time going to Johnny's. Great music, girls and drinks. I enjoy their Sinatra singer Pat Sallarulo. Always puts on a great show. Mark Phillips does a nice job as Elvis. Go for a fun night out.

Party like its 1979!

by ma_the_meatloaf

Party like its 1979! No where else to throw on the Ascot and double breasted blazer and boogie down on the disco floor or have scotch in the Sinatra room.

avoid all together!!!!

by italiaun

rude bouncers, angry bartenders, absent owner. old men and women who need to be spending their money on fashion and botox. the young crowd comes in, but the dance floor is so small that you get banged and bounced around. old dancers have no floor manners either. i guess if you are looking for pimps, prostitutes, and not being treated as a patrion this would be the place for you!!!!

Pros: free to get in

Cons: old crowd. no fashion. tiny dance floor.

a mirage

by mulazim

this bar is great for locals. the locals frequent this bar to drink and and drink, its like a family. No outsiders permitted. the food is okay. the bartenders especially on a friday night need more help. the music is great, then the dance floor is too small, you are bumping into people.
The most misleading factor about this place is that its cited as an over thirty singles spot, the truth of the matter, is this not a modern day single bar. I t is a masqurade for single women to lead you on. there are many better clubs for meeting singles.

Pros: music

Cons: crowded, false women

old folk fun

by in2xtc

My husband and I went to Johnny's on a Saturday night and really enjoyed ourselves. It is nice to see a nightspot where most of the crowd is over 40 but still very active and fun. Everyone we met was very friendly and the music and dancing were great. I would say it is a great singles scene too where you don't have to be judged along side 22 year old hot chicks and hard body guys .

Pros: good music, nice crowd

Not just for the "Empty Nesters!"

by lmaggart

Johnny's has become a favorite hang-out for me and my friends, who range from early 30's to 50 years old. The club plays great music, although the night typically starts with swing and moves into more modern fare after 11:00. The crowd includes lots of singles in their mid 30s to mid 40s. The staff members are absolutely wonderful. After the change that I've seen in Buckhead in the last year, I'd head to Johnny's any day! The place is loads of fun!

Pros: Great crowd, Attentive Staff, No cover charge

Cons: Crowded Dance Floor, crowded bar area, Rsvd table seating

Johnny's is a place to see and be seen. The music is oustanding, and the staff seeks to meet the needs of the patrons. It is a place for the 30 something professional crowd.

Pros: music, drinks, clientel

Cons: parking, smoke
