We always go here if we are craving Thai food. My fiancee loves the Drunken noodles and I always get the Panang curry. We also love the Nam Tok. Would totally recommend this place for Thai food.

Thaicoon does a good job of executing complicated sushi rolls as well as offering an excellent selection of traditional Thai dishes. The dining room is clean and relaxing. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about their dishes. I normally don't like to get sushi via take out, however they do a good job in packaging it so that when you do get home, it tastes as fresh as it is sitting at the sushi bar.

I love this place. It's my favorite Thai restaurant in the area, and is a favorite meeting spot for business lunches. The staff is great and Simon (great waiter) always remembers my name!

This is a really wonderful restaurant. My initial interest was the clever name and convenient, however off the beaten path, location. After my first bite of sashimi I knew I had found a jewel. With a softly lit, comfortable ambiance and quick, pleasant service this restaurant is sure to please. I especially suggest the Sushi and Sashimi Boat Dinner for Two as it is a great deal and allows you to enjoy a wide variety of foods. My favorite waitress, May, is almost always there and simply one of my very favorite waitresses in the city. Even on evenings that I am not particularly in the mood for sushi I'll come in to see her. She has memorized my tastes and always has my drink in hand when she realizes I'm at her table. She even remembers most of my friend's preferences. All around this is a grand restaurant and you have every reason to go check it out.

I work about a half of a mile from Thaicoon, and I tell ya--I visit this place at least twice per week for lunch. The sushi is great and the servers are the friendliest ever! They suggest new dishes as well as special chef rolls (sushi neophytes, try the teriyaki salmon roll--to die for!). Everything from the miso soup to the fried icecream is simply delicious. I have never had one sushi roll at this place that I didn't enjoy--believe me, I've tried them ALL! It's a great way to eat tasty and healthy food. I have converted about ten of my coworkers into sushi-holics by bringing them to Thaicoon. Enjoy and eat up!

In my book, the folks at Thaicoon & Sushi are now and have always been some of the nicest, most friendly, most accommodating, most gracious restaurant people I have ever encountered. Ever. Anywhere. My family has been going there since it opened. We especially like to go on Sundays and try some of the authentic Thai dishes. By the looks of the other diners, this is the real deal for Thai food. We are always treated like appreciated customers -- almost like family. Service is prompt and attentive without being overdone. Ask about what's not on the menu -- especially Sunday deserts -- and don't be shy to ask about things on the non-English Thai menu. Everyone there is happy to help you find your way through the list to things you know you love but don't recognize in the Thai language to things you never even knew to try before. The Pad Thai never disappoints. It's a bit different than the standard with its thinner noodles and delicate sweetness -- so delicious. I also love the Japanese dishes and find the sashimi to be as fresh and lovely as any I've had anywhere. Super Crunch -- yum! This place really deserves a shot.

Pros: So friendly and accommodating; delicious food; lots of dining options

Cons: The one and only thing I don't like are the non-absorbent napkins. But the hot towels before the meal more than make up for that!

Best Thai food in ATL. They have great service and it is very authentic. Monday and Tuesdays are good if you like sushi since they have a one dollar menu. Sunday is great if you like authentic Thai food since they being out their specials that day. I have been to Thailand and I can tell you that this place is the closes to the real thing that you can get.

I have visited this place at least twice every month over the past year. The food is great! But the consistently rude service is annoying. I tried talking to the manager (well, the person who they pointed out as manager) but it did not help. The only reason I keep going there is cos of the food. If you don't mind rude service, unsmily faces and all that goes with it, its definately a place to go.

I was amazed yesterday. My girlfriend is Thai and new to Atlanta--this is where her friends go, this is where she goes, and she took me while I was visiting. I'm a chef and try to recreate traditional recipes but they slapped me in the face with their food. The simplest special of yard-long beans with chiles and nam pla and I think some miniature boiled peanuts...blew my mind. Light, yet filling, and it's nice to have someone that speaks Thai to help you a litle bit. Go on Sundays--specials galore. Sea urchin roll. Tasted of the sea. Wonderful! Oh yeah---Tom Yum also. Support the good places regardless of strip mall locations!

I go here for lunch very often. They have the best sushi specials at unbelievable prices. Some come with a wonderful cucumber and citrus salad. The sushi is always fresh and tasty. There is never a wait. The service can be slow and without a smile. They're not rude, just not friendly. All in all, this is a great spot.

Monday nights have become a ritual here. Every Mon. & Tues. is $1 Sushi at Dinner. And it's good, fresh quality fish. We always start with a couple of salads, at $1.95, the green salad with a full body Ginger Dressing. Probably the best Ginger Dressing in Atlanta. And get a second salad to share also- the Cucumber Salad, with oranges, tomatoes, crabmeat- it's real, and Rice Vinegar Dressing. Our favorite roll is the Sashimi. Fresh Salmon, Tuna, white fish, ta'mago, wrapped in seaweed and served with ponzu. Service is friendly, and the place has a great neighborhood vibe. And those prices!

Sun is the best time to go since they have authentic thai dishes thru out the day (I think it ends around 5pm)
I would say the dishes on their special menu on sunday is the best thai you will get in town. Unlike Thai Star (worse service, and worse food).
Must try papaya salad and spicy thai pork. Yummy.

We have become regulars at Thaicoon and Sushi bar due to the amazing food, great value for it and friendly & quick service. Over a year ago, the service was aweful and we almost stopped going there even though we loved the food. That completely changed 1+ years ago as there is new management and new service there now. Both the sushi & thai are delicious and they are generous with their portions. The Kamakazi roll is completely addictive and the thick ginger dressing on the salad is a rarity in Atlanta. We are sushi-addicts and have been to sushi restaurants all over the city, like MF Sushi and Aqua Blue. Though the quality of fish is top notch there, the types of rolls don't even compare to Thaicoon & Sushi Bar (and the quality of fish is great there too). Most of all, we always have a wonderful experience when we go there!

I order from here all the time... They have a great variety of sushi rolls and it is pretty consistent. Definitely go on Monday nights... they have a dollar sushi special!! I recommend the "Rainbow Supreme" roll, which has eel, cream cheese, and cucumber topped with tuna, white fish, salmon, shrimp and avocado or the "Super Crunch" roll. There is a Japanese menu and there's also a Thai menu, so there are options for everyone. My friends love the pad thai... The steamed tofu or chicken and vegetables is also a good choice. And don't forget the ginger salad... it's excellent.

My husband and I eat here regularly and we bring friends here as well. We have never been disappointed. The food is excellent, the staff is very "no frills." They are plenty attentive, but the service is definitely in the periphery, which can be nice. The restaurant is also in a strip mall so it lacks the stylish crowd of Harry and Sons. If you are out for food, this is a wonderful bet for sushi and thai, if you want to get emersed in a "scene," this place may feel too low-key.

On Sunday afternoons they have more traditional Thai food and a special Thai menu not served during the week. I would highly recommend it!

If you know someone who can speak Thai then even better as they do have some great soups that are not on the menu.

The food is really excellent and the place is located just around the corner from me, so I continue to go back. However, I'm just about done with Thaicoon based on their repeatedly rude waitstaff, who always acts like they couldn't care less about the treatment of their customers. Despite an entire restaurant of empty tables, they don't bother seating you for sometimes 10-15 minutes because someone's on a personal call, counting money, etc. Getting your waitress to your table and getting your check are two near impossible tasks, so much that I usually just leave what I know to be the amount of my bill on the table and walk out, because otherwise I could wait all night. If I even have one bad experience with the food, I'll definitely never go back, but because its been consistenly good (knock on wood), they [unfortunately] continue to receive my business.

Nice atmosphere and good sushi...in a strip mall? We're regulars for the Mon/Tues $1 sushi and have never been disappointed. Curries are nice, too. Waitstaff works hard, but service can be slow when they're busy and being harassed by Emory students. Go--you won't be disappointed!

I always get the sashimi dinner. Occasionally they bring it on a platter and sometimes in the boat. When I get the boat they include a great seaweed salad that I love that has citrus and cucumber and lots of interesting flavors co-mingling. The sashimi is always very fresh and tastes perfect. I also enjoy the miso soup and green salad with ginger dressing, altho it does seem that there's an awful lot of water floating around in the bottom of the salad bowl when I'm done. The service has always been very good for me and they've been very patient with my highly indecisive dinner companion.

The restaurant itself is nicely decorated and the atmosphere is cozy - unlike Nikimotos where you have to squeeze through throngs of Midtowners who would rather people watch than eat.

We tried out this place last night and I cannot believe what a gem we found! My boyfriend and I eat sushi all over the city and suburbs in search for high quality fresh seafood and this place has it. The service was knowledgeable and the portions were enormous. The sashimi dinner platter is out of this world! Check this place out..it is a lot nicer inside than it seems it would be since it is situated next to Kroger!

I love this place! Don't miss the $1.00 sushi special on Monday and Tuesday nights--what a deal! The sushi is quite good, and the Thai food is fresh tasting, not overly greasy or heavy. It's not the glitziest location in town, next to a Kroger and an Eckerds, but it's extremely convenient for those in Morningside, the Emory area, and Virginia-Highlands. (It seems like the Buckhead crowd is starting to find it too.) Good food, pleasant service, convenient location, good prices... you can't miss.

We have been eating at this place now several times following the stunning renovation job. This is an undiscovered gem, business seems to be picking up but no crowds yet. Beautiful environment. Friendly, attentive and fast service. Very, very good Thai food and absolutely outstanding Japanese food (the sashimi is a dream!). Prices are reasonable, the place is a bargain for lunch.

In Short
A glowing orange neon sign boldly displays Thaicoon's location in a decades-old Kroger strip mall off Briarcliff Road. The interior feels like a mediocre suburban chain and menus are delivered with plastic inserts…
