I love this store! I was born in Tokyo, Japan and spent most of my life there, even though I am an American citizen (brat). This is the ONLY Japanese store in Atlanta. Forget the H Mart, they hardly have any Japanese items. Tomato is the only store where you can buy Georgia Originial Coffee, Pocari Sweat, and Vitamin C drinks (hangover cure). I agree that the location could be better, but I just love this little store that brings back so many wonderful memories of Japan.

Off the beaten path, but a great store none the less... Excellent selection, quite frankly the most variety I've seen east of the Rockies with the exception of Pacific Merchantile in Denver. They even stock fresh Toro when available!
My only gripe is their accessibility, over 100 miles round trip from Peachtree City and the lack of signage. They are located on the east side of a one way frontage road in the back of a Sushi Restaurant and easily missed if you've never been there before. Drive by, and you're circumnavigating a 2 mile+ missed approach and holding pattern to try again. A posted sign would easily prevent this needless loop!
Overall, a quiet, quaint atmosphere and the best Atlanta has to offer. Highly recommended for Asian Gourmet Aficionados looking for fresh, authentic, hard to find ingredients for that special event.
AAA+ for selection and service
B- for accessibility
C for location

This store is rotten. The selection is not too bad, but the people there are all unfriendly--they are not helpful, selfish, and don't even know how to smile. We have never left the store without feeling upset. Hopefully we do not have to go there again

By the way, the Sushi restaurant next to Tomato also sucks. The waiters and waitresses are naive, unfriendly, and don't know how to serve customers.

You should rather go to Super H-mart and Haruichiban in Duluth to shop or eat.

They are the only Japanese grocery store in Atlanta, and they have membership program that you can buy for $10 a year and get 5% off for every purchase you make. The staff there are not that bad, it has actually changed a lot in the last few years. However, the owner of this place is very awful. I'm from Japan but never have met anyone like this back in Japan. It was 10 minutes before closing and I went to the cash register to buy something, and he told me it's closed - so go away. I was very upset!

But other than that, the cashiers are actually nice. They got rid of the really unfriendly ones. I go here because this is where I can get my Japanese food for cheap with a lot of selections.

When I asked for assistance to help me find the seaweed, I couldn't exactly understand what they were saying. I also thought they didn't have the friendliest people around. There were so many boxes everywhere, I honestly thought that the kids running around would trip and break something. I hope I never have to go there again.

Tomato Japanese Grocery Store is a nice little store with a good assortment of Japanese food products. Many of these are snack foods, but they are still quite good, and there are ALOT of them. This store is a great place to stop after Kung Fu, I can grab a cold Pocari Sweat and a bag of rice and seaweed crackers, then be on my way. They have a nice video rental section, if you can speak Japanese. There are many anime titles there that you won't see anywhere in America, such as the FANTASTIC series, "Doctor Surprise." The staff is friendly and speaks English, which helps make the overall experience very nice.

PROS: In the same building as a good Japanese restaurant, wide selection of snack
CONS: Very small.
