Talk about night and day for Customer Service. Today 8/12/09 I dropped by "JN Chevrolet; 2999 N. Nimitz Hwy.; Honolulu Hi 96819-1903" around noon to check on possible purchase of a 2009/10 Chevy Colorado. I own a 1986 Monte Carlo SS and am hoping to take advantage of "Cash for Clunkers". I purposely went down unshaven in shorts and slippers. When I went in to their showroom neither the receptionist or sales rep. who was on a computer greeted me or asked if I needed any help. When I went out to look at the Colorado's on their lot, the three or four sales reps I saw also never approached me to ask if I needed help. After about 10 to 15 minutes I decided to leave, taking my hard earned money elsewhere.By contrast when I went to "Servco Auto Honolulu; 2850 Pukoloa St.; Honolulu, HI. 96819", I was greeted and asked if I needed help a good 20 feet from their showroom door, by a person who opened the showroom door as I approached. The entire staff there was very friendly and I was asked by several if I was being helped, when the sales rep Bill, who was helping me needed to leave me to do something. I was looking into a Toyota Tacoma and due in good part to the Great Customer Service, I put down $500 (100% refundable) to put a hold on a 2010 Tacoma Access Cab. I did this even though "Cash for Clunkers" will certainly be exhausted long before the truck is due in in October. I work in retail and know the importance of Customer Service!Warren A.Pearl City, HI.

Although I did not purchase my Toyota from Toyota City (or a Servco dealer, for that matter), I prefer to take my truck to Toyota Citys Service department for maintenance. Apparently a lot of people do too, as service visits are typically scheduled a month out when you call.

The primary reason is that I trust the expertise of their staff. They are Servco's flagship dealership and typically work on Toyota vehicles only (I believe they also service Suzuki vehicles, which they also sell). As cars have become more complicated, I think their relationship with my vehicle's manufacturer is critical. Pricing for a routine oil change runs around $35.

Second, at the same time routine maintenance is performed, I can also have other warranty issues fixed. Unfortunately, my experience with warranty repairs has been frustrating due to their lack of parts. With one problem involving my side airbag system it took over two months to ship the right part and fix the problem. To their credit, I was provided a loaner vehicle for each visit, but it is disappointing that it took that long to resolve a problem with a safety device.

Toyota City provides a free shuttle service within the general area. I catch the shuttle to downtown Honolulu in the morning and arrange for the pick-up in the late afternoon.

PROS: Courtesy shuttle service; reasonable prices; Toyota specialists
CONS: Parts usually need to be ordered (not stocked locally)
