By Amy B. | insider Insider | Rank: 22,713

You absolutely cannot leave the island without trying one of Leonard's Malasada's. They are THE absolute best! It's like a doughnut sort of but better. It's hard to explain how delicious they are you just have to try them!!

My parents love Leonard's malasadas and they even bought me funny looking malasada plush wearting a striped chef's hat. Leonards has a wide array of baked goods in addition to their specialty, the malasada. You can choose from a variety of malasada fillings (cream, coconut, etc.) and coatings (cinnamon sugar, sugar). The bakery also has cute gift items, such as tee shirts with little malasada cartoons and the Leonards logo, as well as plushes such as mentioned above.

Malasadas  5 Star Rating - World class

By Andrea C. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,200

This is a bakery that is basically on the side of most roads. However, what they are known for are malasadas which are basically a doughnut. Its a fried dough ball covered in sugar, but this place is really the best at making them. They taste awesome and come in different flavors all which are good. They also come creme filled if you would like and cinnamon on top. Most of the locals go for the original, but if you fell like mixing it up, thats find. Commonly when I'm there I'll see people ordering them by the dozen but they also sell singles.

Review of Leonard's Bakery  4 Star Rating - Very good

This place over the years has gain popularity due to their advertisements. The store is very close to Waikiki and they are known for their malasadas. It is basically a doughnut equivalent but it tastes very different. A lot of tourist companies take tourists to this place and everybody seems to like it. They make different variations of the malasadas. Some have a type of filling in it or you can just order the original malasada. Would definitely recommend it for a quick breakfast food or a snack. Enjoy!

Yummy Malasadas!  4 Star Rating - Very good

By Helen S. | insider Insider | Rank: 24,153

Fresh, hot malasadas! A must-go for any out-of-town visitor. The regular sugar and cinnamon ones are great, but so are the ones with filling (guava, coconut, etc). A very local feel, with t-shirts and stickers available for sale. There's also a van that parks in the mall in Kaneohe that sells malasadas as well. Prices are really good. Make sure to get more than you think you can eat, because they're quite addictive!

Malasadas R Us  4 Star Rating - Very good

If you haven't been to Leonards, you should correct this error. They are well known for their Portugese malasadas, which are comparable to a doughnut. They are beset when eaten fresh and hot, so when you go in ask to see if any will be freshly made soon. Worth the wait!
