BEST VET EVA!!!!! Dr. Castro has cared for my first beloved minpin for over 10 years. He and his wife saved her life and the lives. of her litter. My second marvelous minpin was born at their clinic. They are so caring and competent. I would not trust my gals to anyone else. I need to travel to the mainland now and again and they have been a great help with Hawaii's quarantine requirements. Ann took my frantic calls from California one trip and helped correct a glitch in my paperwork. They are kind and gentle always and seem to love each and every pet. I am grateful to them.
I also LOVE their skull collection. I do miss Dawn though.

I'm so glad I found Dr. Castro at Hilo Veterinary Clinic, 711 Kanoelehua Avenue, Hilo, Hawaii.

My family and I are impressed with his professionalism and care. Some vets have impressive, expensive offices with several receptionists and lots of staff. Hilo Vet Clinic is more modest, with a dedicated husband and wife team who concentrate more on quality care than on showy accommodations.

When our female dog had a false pregnancy, Dr. Castro examined her and told us that she did not have puppies. When my husband asked about x-raying our dog to make sure. Dr. Castro told us we would only be wasting our money. We appreciate his honesty.

We've gone to other vets on the Big Island. Some wanted us to get expensive tests or operations done, but Dr. Castro will tell us the straight story if these things are really needed or not.

That's why we now go to Hilo Veterinary Clinic.

This veterinarian is very friendly, thoughtful, and uses common sense. At our dog's first visit, Dr. Castro kneeled down, greeted, and pet our dog until he was more comfortable instead of just going about the business of his medical exam. He also recommended a milder treatment of using dental chew-toys to remove plaque from our dog's teeth. Previous vets had suggested painful dental procedures before anything else, and it turned out that Dr. Castro's advice was just right. I recommend this vet to anyone on the east side of the big island.

Dr. Castro Boyd is my dogs favorite vet. They each got really sick or had major injuries and had to be taken into emergency for treatment. They were scared at their first check up appointment as pups, but after they met him they absolutly love and trust Dr. Boyd. Now, they are not scared when they get taken to the doctor, and when they are not feeling well- they jump into the back of my pickup in the morning as I am going to work because they know that they need to see Dr. Castro, and they realize that he will help them feel better. At the hospital they jump out of my car to greet him like an old friend.

The only thing preventing me from rating this clinic with 5 stars is that he's so popular that getting an appointment takes forever. He would do well to relocate to a larger facility and employ additional vets.
