We ate here after a long day of hiking. WOW, the food was amazing. The entertainment was incredible. The ambiance was relaxed, but happening. The food was reasonably priced. Loved the pizza. Highly recommended.

The food is amazing! it is one of the best italian resteraunts on the east side of the island. a few nights a week they feature live music to accompany the great food. Local boys, if you want to score points, this is where you take your date...

Hilo is a very old area and Care Pesto is the nicest restaurant around. They offer a variety of italian style dishes, from pasta to salad to chicken. The prices range from approximately $10 to $20 and althought the setting is somewhat crowded, the food is very good.

Cafe Pesto is an over priced establishment that caters to tourists and the professional lunch crowd. The food is tastefully presented and arranged but overpriced. The pizzas are one of the better dishes there. It is definitely not the place "local" family style dinner place because of the price.

PROS:
CONS: The lighting is too dark, especially in the evening...dificult to read menu

Seared Ahi Poke is specialty of the house and was excellent. Our local friend eats here often and the food is consistently wonderful. Ono Furikake on mesclun salad w/wasabe dressing was also very good. Thumbs up on the hokalau turkey sandwich. Our favorite restaurant on in Hilo.

Pros: good value, open and relaxed, near downtown

Cons: A little Parking, Tour ships some days

On an island with many great places to eat (most pretty expensive), Cafe Pesto stands out - incredibly delicious food - in Hilo and Kawaihae. Not cheap, but value for the money; I like to have lunch there when on the Big Island. Nice relaxed atmosphere.

The food is amazing and the staff aims to please. In my travels around the world, it is hard to find anywhere that serves such fresh and innovative cuisine yet is able to maintain a relaxed atmosphere. Try the lilikoi cheesecake, creme brulee or a pohoiki passion margarita for the perfect end to a wonderful meal.

The salads and breads are spectacular, and the pastas are wonderful. Everything here, including the staff, are well above average. The interior is nice and airy with high ceilings and you have a nice view of the water if you're near one of the big front windows. Watch out for when the cruise ships pull into port. This place seems to get slammed hard with hungry tourists and their kids. After lunch/dinner, it's fun to wander along the street out front and peek in the shops.

Pros: atmosphere, the food rocks

Located in Hilo Downtown's historic S. Hata building, right on the Bay, this well-established Italian eatery has adopted distinct Asian flavors and fresh island ingredients in a sly menu of gourmet pizzas and seafood specials. We recommend…
