This place was pretty fun. There was a game going on so it was more loud than we planned but it was a nice fun atmosphere. The second story balcony was a nice place to enjoy our drinks.

The tables were closer together than was necessary and the service was not the fastest or the friendliest, but they were not rude, just nice enough.

It was hard to find in the first place, hard to find parking and the walk up wasn't easy after our long hike the day before.

So we stopped in here while bar hopping, they have a decent Happy Hour selection from 3-5pm. We had the fried wontons which were excellent. My Dad & I had the Mai Tai, which was the best we've had yet, and My Mom got a Mango Margarita she's still dreaming about. Need I say more? They have an excellent view, the cars below didn't bother us. I personally, have selected hearing - so I drown out the cars as I'm looking at the beautiful ocean! It really can't get any better, if only we had made it here earlier, we got there 10 minutes before Happy Hour was ending and we were looking for a cheap, but drunken filled night. The service was a little bit slow, but all in all, Rio's was great and I highly recommend it!

After hearinf about Rios for a while, I was excited to finally eat there. However, my experience was not a positive one. After being ignored by the bartender, my wife and I decided to get a table. Although the server was friendly, her knowledge of the food was terrible.
Being a seafood restaurant, I figured that the chef would be able to properly cook fish, but that was another of my mistakes. The Ahi was so over cooked that I barely ate any. The view was beautiful, but everything else, including a $9.00 bourbon and coke was not.

PROS: View
CONS: food, drinks

We felt the service was poor in most restaurants in Kailua but Rio's blew us away with how friendly and attentive their staff were. Thanks so much Katie! Good luck at college! The food is great (walu get the walu!) the drinks are great and the view is...you guessed it, great!

Pros: Food, drinks, service

Cons: let me think about it a moment and get back to you

One of the toughest things to find in Kona is great seafood. The kitchen team at Rio's puts together some amazing dishes. (hint - ask for the chef, he'll come out to see you). Had the walu with roasted peppers, portabella mushrooms and balsamic reduction. Absolutely to die for. Service can be spotty, but drinks have improved.

Rios is the best seafood on the strip facing the bay in Kailua (Kona). The service was super fast, the food was great, whats not to like? Well - the prices were a bit steep. You get what you pay for they say.

In terms of ambience, It could be better. They have an open air second story balcony on Alii near the harbor. At Sunset the view is great, but the sound is cars going by, not the waves.

The view is better over at the Kona Beach Club, and the fact its facing the water (across the street) - as opposed to directly on the water, was a drawback.

But dont let that stop you. Rios is not in the same category food quality wise. Kona Beach is in competition with Bubba Gump. Rios is in competition with Jamesons and Huggos - more of a high end gourmet option.

I had a delicious fish called Walu - its was tender, white, and flakey - the sauce was sort of a concentrated balsemic vinagar with herbs and butter. Very good. As a guy who used to work in a seafood restaurant as a cook - I give 5 Stars.

When I look back on it, I'd have to say it was the best meal I had in Kona. I'm sure there are equally good places around town. Kaulua could use a little competition in the Seafood area.

Most of these waterfront places simply dont know how to cook fish: they either overcook it - or fry it "ala BubbaGump". For people who didn't grow up in a Fish and Seafood Restaurant, as I did, that's fine. But Rios did it right. Definitely good food, but on the expensive side:L $25 per person for the high end entree's. They did have appetizers and fried shrimp for around $10 if you are on a budget.

Give them a try, if its your last night in Kona and you have some budget left over - spluge at Rios Seafood.

PROS: Great Fish, Excellent Fast Service
CONS: Expensive, Service is almost too fast, Not for budget travellers.

Great view, but the food was marginal and the tropical drinks (watered down) were a real disappointment. They touted their great (and expensive) crab cakes....but they tasted like they were premade somewhere else and flown in. So, have a beer, enjoy the view, but that's about it....
