I have never been so pleased with a rental of any kind till i came to SMB. Tim & the boys took my gf and I under their wing ~ helping us with whatever modification we required. Not only that, they were full of information on where to ride, start times, what to expect, etc...I was pleased with my Trek Madone and was thankful to have had this high end bike for the climbs around Maui. I truly believe that the staff here are genuinely interested in making your cycling trip fantastic!

I did rent a Trek Madone (with a triple crank) for the ride up Haleakala 2010. Zak took the reservation months ahead of the event. Upon my arrival the day before the ride Tim Kramer set up the bike with my seat and pedals. He did an excellent job and I did ride the 36 miles without any problems or mechanical difficulties. I would recommend this shop for other athletes who wish to rent a high end bike instead of shipping it. " # 31"

My husband rented a road bicycle from South Maui Bicycles and was pleased with his experience. He rode two days around West Maui and rode to the top of Haleakala (over 150 road miles) and the bike he rented performed decently. It was a bit odd when he returned the bike and they handed him cleaner and a rag to clean the bike in the parking lot but all in all, a decent experience.

South Maui Bicycles is a rental and bike repair shop that has a large fleet on Maui from which to choose. The rent out one speed city bikes, beach cruisers, mountain bikes, and touring bikes at competitive rates. Frank Hackett, the shop owner, will take time to give you tips including routes and the best time to travel. I would recommend this bike shop to visitors.

Sending out a big thank you to the guys at South Maui Bicycles! I had a great experience. The guys were full of information. The bikes were awesome. I would highly recommend the shop to any one renting a bike on Maui.
5I rented a trek 5000 from South Maui Cyclery and rode it up Haleakala. When I returned the bike they tried to tell me that I wore the rear rim down badly while riding it down the volcano. That's when I told them I DIDN' RIDE THE BIKE DOWN! They didn't believe me so I had to show them my mileage (I used my own HRM/Cycle computer) and I was ready to have them call my wife, who gave me a ride down. The rim was extremely worn and the shop owner's scam was very rehearsed. I imagine he uses this scam a lot. If I had ridden the bike down I would have had to pay, even though I have raced for more than 20 years and only weigh 140 lbs, and consequently don't need to brake a lot on downhills. I hear Maui Cyclery in Haiku is a real good shop. Try them, but stay away from South Maui Cyclery.

Pros: Close to you if you are in Kihei
Cons: Will try to make you pay for damage you didn't do to rental bikes.
