dont join their life time menbership it is a total scam. this fitness center has went through 3 owners in the past 10 years. each time they ask life time members pay a conversion fee or just asking the members to pay montly all over again. the Office of Consumer Protection has determined that both health clubs, because of changes in ownership, are no longer obligated to honor lifetime memberships given by the previous owner. so.... each time they change owners they sell as many life time membership as they could for such a good deal then couple years later ur out of luck and left hanging with nothing.

The punahou Fitness and spa is going to be a really nice gym and spa. And as far as I know it is the only club in town with a spa and gym at $29 a month. It is under construction so I would wait a few weeks until you check it out. I just signed up for $29 a month and $50 down

I went to punahou fitness and spa just to check it out. One of my friends said they had good trainers there. I was pleasently surprised to find that the staff, although enthused weren't so "pushy" like other gyms. They offered me 3 free sessions with a personl trainer. Nainoa was the one who helped me. He showed me so many things that I never thought of doing. I have been an athelete all of my life and have been doing the same things since highschool. I am so glad that I went to punahou fitness and spa. I encourage all to at least go and look. Give it a chance their GREAT.

I was one who had lifetime membership. I was off island when the company was bought out. This was no surprise to me because membership was practically free with the lifetime membership. When I did return home I figured I try 24hr since it seemed to be growing quickly across the island. Personally I was not impressed. The parking was limited, I would circle the lot for nearly 15-20 minutes before I even made it in the gym. Though the staff wasn?t rude or anything, it definitely lacked the family oriented vibe that the Spa continues to carry. I decided to return to the Spa. Despite the fact that I was unable to renew my contract, the staff was accommodating and the plans presented were very reasonable. If you compare prices to other gyms on the island, it?s a steal. Especially since they are one of the few if not only facility on the island that offers the variety of amenities: weights, cardio machines, swimming pool, Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna & ice pool. There have been several renovations made. The swimming area is gorgeous. They recently modernized the locker room. In fact, they are currently creating an additional locker room and shower for the alternate days men/women have access to the main locker room. On top of all that, the staff/trainers at the Spa are remarkable. I initially inquired with a previous employee about personal training. Though he was not an actual trainer he was more than willing to help me out. He ended up referring me to the head trainer at the Spa. His training skills are top of the line. He proved to be very knowledgeable and was able to cater workouts according to my specific needs. He was available and willing to help me out aside from my actual training sessions. He is truly Awesome. As far as being undressed in the sauna, that is not very sanitary, let alone pleasant to the eye. I would recommend the Punahou Spa to everyone. The friendly environment makes it easy to return. If you don?t believe me, go check it out for yourself.

I was told there was a good trainer at this gym. I met with the trainer and immediately sensed there could be a conflict of interest as he also worked at the gym. Turned out there was; he could never concentrate, he was looking around, running back and forth to the front desk, chatting with the owner and taking cell phone calls. This is the worst kind of trainer possible. I had to fire him.

The gym is small, cramped and old. The locker rooms have no paper towels, not enough benches for changing and no full sized lockers. What's more, on the off days, women or men can only change in a small bathroom as the main locker with sauna and hot tub is not co-ed.

Making matters still worse, on "ladies day" in the " spa" area the women are all shame based and admonish anyone who is UNDRESSED in the sauna, hot tub or even in line for the shower. This is the only ladies locker room in the universe where the women refuse to be undressed. The owner is so cheap that he doesn't furnish: paper towels, enough equipment or much of anything.

The guys at the front desk are for the most part, clue less. Half of the gym is in a dingy basement and the other half, upstairs, is crowded. This is a place that doesn't make good on being a spa because it lacks the facilities or the attitude and doesn't do enough about being a gym because of the size and cramped conditions.

All in all, it's a mess!

This place has a history of disapointing members.

In short, it's awful. I know this leaves either 24 HOUR, YMCA, CLARK HATCH or GOLDS and even these places have their problems but AVOID THE SPA. IT'S A ZERO!

I had membership at this spa for a while and I enjoyed every minute of it. I used to take the aerobics classes at least twice a week and then I would workout on the machines. This spa is large and there are a lot of machines for everyone so you don't have to constantly wait for machines. The exercise classes were the best because the instructors were always so energetic and they made the workout so much fun!
