I have always been a banker at American Savings for two reasons: 1) There was always a branch near by. 2) All my family members also bank with them.

Now that I am older, I am starting to do more business transaction and I am beginning to wonder about this bank's services. I often come in the bank to do deposits and once, I had to order a specific check and I asked the teller if they carried it. They told me no. I went back another day and decided to pursue it again because I felt it was weird that my other bank was able to issue me that check. This time the teller tells me that they ARE able to issue it.
This was not the only occasion that I had doubts about their tellers. On other occasions, when I ask a question, they always have to ask their coworkers for the answer.

I am currently skeptical about their training programs. If I am to deposit large sums of money with a bank, I want to be sure they know what they are doing. I have noticed a majority of their staff consist of young inexperience high school graduates. I am not discriminating this fact but I feel that money is a very sensitive issue and although these tellers are young, if they are well-trained and knowledgeable, their confidence will outshine their youth. That is what I don't see.

I will still keep my account open, however, I do not see myself doing a lot of business with them in the future until I see further improvement.

PROS: Many Branches
CONS: Inexperience Tellers

Over the years I've had accounts at most of the banks that have done business in Hawaii. By far, the best full service local bank is American Savings, which has many branches on all islands.
Checkout their website, asbhawaii.com, and find a branch near you.
