Westin Moana Surfrider

The Moana Surfrider is the "queen" of hotels on Oahu. It's a lovely hotel and the staff go out of their way to please. The hotel offers a sumptuous afternoon tea. It includes finer sandwiches, scones, fruit, etc. They have the best quality loose tea on the island. The rooms are clean and well appointed. It's a hotel for romance.

It's wonderful that they kept up this hotel -- the first on Waikiki -- instead of tearing it down and building something new. The old colonial architecture, complete with a front porch and rocking chairs, is absolutely charming. The original part of the hotel has smaller rooms circa 1901 while the two newer wings have larger rooms and 1960s - 70s architecture. Breakfast or afternoon tea on the Banyan Veranda are a must. Great beach! Because it was the first hotel, it was built on the very BEST strip of Waikiki.

This hotel is the best in Waikiki, bar none. Its right on the beach and the pool is fabulous. Youre always greeted with a lovely orchid lei and there are many complimentary newspapers in the lobby. The staff are the best--polite and just dying to help. The rooms are unique (Hawaiian comforters on the beds, nice furniture) and most offer a great view of either the ocean or the bustling streets of Waikiki. The toiletries are great, especially the sunburn relief gel. Afternoon tea is a fun novelty. This is my familys favorite place to stay in Oahu.

My husband and I stayed the night at the Sheraton Moana Surfrider as a getaway while he was home on leave from Afghanistan. The hotel not only gave us a hugely discounted room, but gave us that discount on an oceanfront room. The room was clean and comfortable, with beautiful Hawaiian quilts on the bed and an abundant supply of towels, robes, and slippers. The room service was prompt and had a wonderful selection, and the car valet service was a life saver.

PROS: Location, decor, food, pool, rooms
CONS: NONE!!
