This is in response to the review below. Don't get Hale Waikiki and Hale Koa mixed up. Two very different places.
Hale Waikiki is in an OKAY area, as far as safety goes.
I haven't stayed there, but I did grow up in Hawaii and know the area.
Good luck having friends visit because parking is a pain in the ass. Actually, parking is a pain throughout all of Waikiki. Try venturing out of Waikiki and check out the B&B in Manoa, or some other hotel outside of commercialized Hawaii.

The wonderful Hale Koa Hotel. When we go to the Island of Oahu we stay at the Hale Koa because for one it is easy for me to get around in my power chair and two it is a beautiful place to stay. This hotel is for reserved for military family and friends only.
