I used to shop here quite a bit but I found the styles they were accepting were more old ladyish than up to date. They say they want stuff that is 2 years old or less but I swear some of those shrunken wool Pendelton sweaters are from 1980. The food thing is weird and I am not sure if they have a license for that. It wasn;t awful- I just found a place I liked better.

This store has a great selection of brands. Some are too expensive for me since I am frugal, but there are others that I like to find and buy when I go into Savvy, like Old Navy and Banana Republic. I shop at Savvy every month or two and I almost always find at least one thing to buy. My favorite part of the store is the jewelry selection. It's not huge, but they consign fun jewelry, and some it is fine jewelry (aka real gold, sterling silver, etc.)

I find that the store is very well organized--shirts and sweaters are separated, and those are separated from pants, jeans, skirts, etc. I love how everything is put on the racks by size so I can easily find my size. When I try on clothes and I'm not sure about a particular piece, I like to ask the associate who is working there what their opinion is and they are always honest. They obviously don't work on commission, which is refreshing, they want me to be happy with the things I buy. I've noticed that the workers can get a bit stressed out when there are a ton of customers in the store, but they always try to serve everyone equally.

I also consign at Savvy about 2-4 times a year, and I find that my clothes are priced fairly and if there is a stain or hole or anything else on my clothes, they won't accept it because they know it won't sell like that.

The dog, Fajita, that is usually there during the week, is very friendly and if you don't like dogs or whatever, the owner will put her in the back room or in her crate/kennel. She is not aggressive at all which is good because I sometimes fear large dogs. Also, she won't beg for the bread and bagels you can buy while you are at Savvy. I love those Thomas bagels, and they are such a better price than anywhere else in town!

It became immediately obvious to me, after spending only 15 minutes in Savvy Boutique, that the owners of this store do not treat their craft as work, but instead as a hobby. If they treated their craft as work, there would be some semblance of organization present in the store; I guess throwing items randomly about the store on clothes hangers and scattering piles of cheap items, priced far higher than they are worth (but then again, everything I saw in there was overpriced, most of it gaudy too), works for them. It certainly didn't work for me, the customer, and that is the prevalent downfall of Savvy Boutique. They just do not care about the customers there.

There is a learning curve to every utilization of the store; if you do not know how the consignment process works, tough cookies, if you need help finding things, expect glares and an overall jaded attitude.

The only thing that was arguably positive about my experience in the Savvy Boutique was the lack of any other customers. I almost wish that there were other customers present during my experience there though, because my experience was so ridiculously negative (almost to an eerie, surreal extent), that I felt it needed to be shared with someone else. I wouldn't want to do that again alone...

Overall, my experience with the Savvy Boutique in Iowa City was overwhelmingly negative. If you prefer random mutts sniffing around your feet and stale bread/doughnuts (why does this store sell food?) greeting you on your way in, this store is for you. For me, however, these elements made my experience with the Savvy Boutique not too dissimilar from a bad acid trip.

First off I like the business for its content but I hate it for its service. There were some great clothes in there, like Gucci, for very reasonable prices. However, when I asked whether or not they accepted wedding dresses as consignment the woman in charge was very rude. Instead of telling me politely that they did not accept party wear she acted offended and she was very short with me. The only thing she did right was refer me to a consignment shop in Cedar Rapids. So if you are just going there to shop I would recommend it, but if you are taking items there just be careful you don't try to bring in the wrong thing!

I first visited this store when I was looking for a nice top quality dress to wear to a wedding. Not wanting to pay a huge price for a dress I would only wear once, a friend suggested I try here. Not only did I find a dress for the wedding at under 50% of retail value, I also found some great winter weight wool slacks and a designer purse as well...and all that for under $50....I felt like I was in shoppers heaven!

So, if you are like me, hesitant to purchase a $200 dress for a one time occasion, check out SAVVY BOUTIQUE.....I can promie you the trip will be worth your time.....it's a great place !

PROS: ...beautiful top quality items for sale
CONS: ...selection i s limited...check back often
