We have used CarX Auto Service in Iowa City on several occasions in the past couple of years. I would recommend for basic services like oil change and winterizaion but I have no experience with them beyont that. I have been able to make an appointment and get things taken care of as promised in a friendly manner and on time. They always have coupons in the local ad sheet so the prices are reasonable.
On one occasion, I had purchased an air filter at Wal-Mart but had trouble installing it myself. My wife stopped by Car X and someone came out immediately and installed the air filer for her at no charge!
I have never been more dissatisfied with the quality of repair work or the customer service provided than I was when I used this shop for a minor automobile repair. First, the estimate that was provided to me was nearly $150 less than the actual charges, although they did nothing more than what they quoted me, it just took them longer than they had anticipated. Secondly, the repairs broke down within three weeks, but the owner claimed that there was no warranty on the work (although he had assured me ahead of time that there was). I would not let this shop get near any of my vehicles with a 10 foot poll, and I would recommend you take the same approach!

Spend a whole afternoon to change a set of front break and the results was huge squeezing noise. Went back to the shop and the manager tested driving the car and told me it was OK( WHAT ? and the manager refused me to sit with him!!!) They denied everything and refuse to do ANYTHING to help. I have to go back to dealer and spend another 400 bucks to solve the problem. \r

After 3 month, I heard strange sound from break and went back to the shop (have 1 yr warrenty on the new break). They checked and said they can change my break to ceramic one with extra charge. I said no, then suddently, the check engine light was ON when I took my car from the mechanic. Go back to manager and he said it WAS ON when I came in. Lier!!!\r

Worst experience and I swear I will NOT do any business with them. Be careful with them!!!!!!!
Pros: Maybe regular oil change is ok with their coupon
